  • Here’s my video of today’s six hour initial burn in/seasoning of the new Workhorse Pits 1975W offset smoker.
    Started by spraying the inside with canola oil and then ran a 250 fire for six hours. After coals were established all I had to do it put a new split on every hour or so.
    Pit did a great job holding heat and temps.
    Very excited about how this came out and even more so looking forward to what’s next - cooking!

    Looking forward to your 1st cook. The burn in process definitely gives you time to play with setting temps. Like I said, I’m waiting until March to receive mine but will be closely watching your cooks to help me minimize the learning curve of this awesome offset. Have a great week!

    Great video and nice looking offset! You are right you have to just “play” with it to learn your smoker and how it likes to run.

    Awesome Smoker!
    I’ve spent a lot of time researching high-quality craft smokers, and I believe this one is the absolute best as far as backyard smokers go. I really enjoy your videos! I’m making a smoker and I’m curious about a couple of measurements on this one:
    1. How wide is the cookdoor opening? It looks like 40 inches?
    2. How wide is the trim piece that goes around the edge of the cook door? is it 1 1/2 inch wide?
    3. What is the frame of the cooking grates made of? It looks like half inch solid square bar.
    4. How wide is the firebox door opening?
    5. How tall is the firebox door opening if you measure along the curve of the firebox instead of a straight line?
    6. How far apart is the upper cooking grate from the lower cooking great?
    7. What’s the distance from the top of the cook chamber to the top of the firebox?
    8. How tall is the hole that lets smoke in from the firebox? It looks like it’s half moon shaped with a straight line across the top of the hole maybe 8 or 10 inches tall in the center?
    Thanks for showing us your awesome smoker!

      It's definitely huge, plenty of air to maintain a hot coal bed and keep consistent temps in the cook chamber.

    Awesome smoker! Have you noticed any hot spots? Please do a biscuit test video if you have time. Thanks!

    • @rabidouxsmokecatering5496
      @rabidouxsmokecatering5496  2 роки тому

      It's consistent left to right and runs about 25 degrees higher on the top rack, not suprisingly.

    Greetings from Essex County. .. in the UK!
    Beautiful smoker, congratulations!
    Currently saving for a similar one.
    Any issues with the wheels / tyres being so close to the firebox? Any damage / melting?
    Cheers!
    Manny

      No issues at all. The smoker is made of 3/8” steel. So it holds its heat internally. Other than it being hot to the touch the heat doesn’t radiate out of the smoker.

    I'm contemplating the wagon option. Once I get it in the backyard, it's gonna stay there. U think using plywood over grass with the regular wheels would work?

    • @rabidouxsmokecatering5496
      @rabidouxsmokecatering5496  2 роки тому

      Yes, that will work. Plus without the wagon setup you get the storage shelf below, the option for the side cart shelf and much easier access to the ball drain. If I could've avoided the need for the wagon I certainly would have.

    Curious, does the handle on the firebox get hot to the point that you can’t grab it with your bare hands (like the old country pits do)? Good video thank you for sharing, im looking to buy a 1969 for me

    • @rabidouxsmokecatering5496

      The handle is cool enough to touch during the cook but if you need to adjust the damper’s set screw you’ll burn yourself for sure. So now knowing that I put the set screw at about 80% tight so it stays in place but I can still open/close the intake damper without having to adjust the set screw.

    Great information thank you for sharing. Can you tell me what the size of the wheels are?

    • @rabidouxsmokecatering5496
      @rabidouxsmokecatering5496  2 роки тому +1

      Hi Steve, the wheels are 15.75" in diameter and 6.75" thick. And they're a total life saver when it comes to moving the pit around, which I have to do.

    Question is the exterior oiled it looks dry. And what is the yellow band on the firebox.

      I suspect it was a strap that was used at some point in the production/shipping process.

    What's the width from wheel to wheel of this wagon option? Not wheel base, but the width from front to rear sort of speak.

    Now cowboy firebox? Can I ask why?

    • @rabidouxsmokecatering5496
      @rabidouxsmokecatering5496  2 роки тому +1

      Hi Thomas,
      In hindsight it was a mistake on my part. I didn't purchase it because I have no intention of using it to cook steaks, burgers, etc. on, and I stand by that reason. However, I overlooked how convenient the access to the fire would have been from the front of the barrel and not just the end. So if I had to do it again I'd definitely get the cowboy firebox.
