Girl, I love cemeteries as well and people always look at me funny when I say that 😂 but if you’re ever in Milan you need to go to the cemetery it’s amazing! So beautiful! The one in Paris in Montmartre gave me nightmares though 😅
@@lisapoe888 then go for it! I really didn’t like it though it’s so weird, the statues creeped me out and it’s right next to / under a big street! Very weird! The Père Lachaise (the one with all the celebrity graves) was better but still weird 😂 and yes I went to two cemeteries in Paris 😅
I'm on your team too! I'm an Autumn girlie and so done with summer. I'm currently reading my last summery book (Sandwich by Catherine Newman, very good!) and then I'll get into more autumnal/cozy books. I always get back into baking when the weather is cool enough to use the oven, so I'm looking forward to that!
Alice Hoffman is who got me to fall in love with reading, I’m obsessed! I was a little disappointed in her last book “The invisible hour” which kills me but that’s also a beautiful cover book.
I didn't even want to start that book. It looked so uninteresting to me. The only reason I even started it is because I have read gotten all of her books since Cat's Eye. I am so glad I did. I can't say it's my favorite Alice Hoffman book, but that's because I can't pick a favorite, too many excellent books to choose. It's definitely in my group of favorite books and one I recommend often. I'm so glad to have read it.
@@jenniferrosebruce6385 her books are so good! I have read many of her books and some short stories, but I have not heard about this one yet! Will have look for it! Thank you for posting the recommendation!
Hi Alice My favorite thing to do is to get up on a Cool Morning - get a Cup of my Freshly Brewed Coffee - Wrap myself up with my Mickey Mouse Plush Blanket - grab a book - sit in my chair - and read for a couple of hours or so and still be in my Jammie’s. I love my Cool - Cold Mornings. I am more productive in the mornings than in the afternoons or evenings. I get everything done in the mornings. My Grandparents had an Apple Orchard and they lived close by. On the weekends all of my Cousins would go to our Grandparents House - pick the apples from their Apple Trees - put them in the Apple Baskets - take them to their Underground Cellar where my Grandparents kept their Baskets of Apples. My Grandma made Apple Pies - My Grandpa made Apple Cider and sometimes he would let it Ferment. We was there every Saturday from morning til evening except for the Winter Months. We would go if the weather was okay. I miss those days so much. I miss my Grandparents. My Grandpa would take the Baskets of Apples to our local grocery store and the store would sell his Apples. Those were the fun times of my Grandparents and all of us Grandkids. There were over 30 of us Grandkids when I was growing up. Now I don’t like to drink Apple Cider or eat Apple Pie because I had so much of it while I was growing up thanks to my Grandparents. I am still reading Murder With Cucumber Sandwiches by Karen Rose Smith. I am really enjoying this. Take Care & Happy Reading ❤️🤗🍁🍂🐿️☀️🔰☕️❤️
Thanks for a fun, chatty vlog Alice! Definitely love baking and cooking with all the yummy Vegetables of Autumn! Totally agree about Alice Hoffman...a marvelous story teller.💜🍁🍂
I love cemeteries too. During the fall season, I really enjoy haunted tours. I live in the deep south and we have really interesting ones. I enjoy hearing the histories of these supposedly haunted places.
The Secret History is nearly a masterpiece, IMHO. I read after work to transition into evening-so like 5-6 or 6-7 and at bed. Snacks: not sure where you are but Trader Joe’s or Farm Boy has them.
I am completely on your side. I live in a very hot climate and we've broken our previous record of 80 days over 100°f. It'll probably be at least another month until we're out of the triple digit temperatures. I'm just looking forward to being able to take a walk in the park after work again. I just finished The God of the Woods and I figured that was a good bridge between summer and autumn. I am going full autumn reading now. I just bought Garlic and the Vampire and Garlic and the Witch and I'm so looking forward to reading them. My favorite autumn drink is chai and I love pumpkin muffins and all the homemade soup. I'm also hoping to read The Warm Hands of Ghosts this autumn. If you haven't read Katherine Arden's middle grade horror series, they're great and not too scary. The first one takes place in autumn.
I also have favourite graveyards. 💜And I’d say cinnamon buns count as snacks! It’s finally cooled down enough that I can turn the oven on and do some fall baking.
I’m in the lover of cemeteries club too. I find them so peaceful and beautiful 🥰 dark academia is definitely a fall favorite of mine too. Adding so many of these books to my want to read lists. Being a coffee drinker, pumpkin spice lattes and cold brews definitely are my favorite fall drinks. I was stalking Starbucks social media since early August for the psl launch date. Sad, i know😂. Trader Joe’s sells pumpkin pecan instant oatmeal that I can’t wait to stock up on. It’s not a snack, but we have pumpkin spice everything here in the US, so there’s no lack of cookies and snacks to choose from. If you have a P.O. Box or address you don’t mind sharing, I’d be glad to send you a little treat box next month.😊 have a great week🧡🍂🧡🍁
Autumn/fall is my favorite time of year too! Ive already started gathering a list of books to read that match the season. I will add some you mentioned to my wish list. I have some illustrated children’s books on my wish list as I love the artwork. I like lots of cozy mysteries and historical fiction too. I especially like Victorian era authors and stories set in that time period. I like books that have autumnal looking covers and wintery ones too. I have The Secret History to reread! Some good spooky books are The Thirteenth Tale, The Haunting of Hill House, Rebecca and Jane Eyre and even the scarier Dracula and Dracul. We have a grocery store here in So California called Trader Joe’s that has an abundance of autumnal products, food and snacks. It’s almost dangerous to go there! Im excited for more of your autumn videos! Edit: Had to add The Canterville Ghost by Oscar Wilde as a great book for autumn too!
I don't have a particular favorite autumnal book, but I love to read everything witchy and vampiric (minus "Dracula") in autumn. Snack is probably also caramel popcorn, or apple-pie flavored baked goods/candy. And my favorite autumnal activity is definitely walking to my local park to read and enjoy the fall foliage, and then watch spoopy movies at night.
Omg I just got two cute books that I wanted to share I got Witches Get Stuff Done by Molly Harper and Morbidly Yours by Ivy Fairbanks. I am reading we used to live here, Pall in the Family by Dawn Eastman and Witch way to murder by Shirley Damsgaard
I’m def on your side of things!! It’s fall, no arguments lol. I’m reading “The Familiars”- Stacey Hall and the cover is so autumnal and gorgeous 🍁🍂, so far the book is great too! You recommended “The Headmasters Wife” and I read it and it was 5/5!! 🤍🤍
I love this time of year the best and think it's perfectly reasonable to start in August! You're fall content is so fun to watch, I have been going through all your fall videos from last year and it has been the perfect way to start welcoming Autumn🍁
my favourite autumn read is the Turner series by Cat Sebastian. They're a queer historical romance series and for some reason they just feel very fall-like to me. I like to reread them every year and also eat some warm cinnamon cookies with a cup of tea.
Love your fall decorations. I have just done my fall decorations too! I love to bake, especially in the fall. I make a harvest spice bread that is so good it has become an annual treat. I love reading anything witchy or with atmosphere so descriptive you feel that autum chill down your back. 🍁🍂🍁🍂🎃
I AM DEFINITELY an AUTUMN GIRL!ALWAYS will be. I am originally from Massachusetts then New Hampshire and I ALWAYS imagine myself back there or daydream all the time about it. There is NO PLACE more BEAUTIFUL in AUTUMN, than New England (in the US.). I LOVE graveyards ANYTIME, but they are gorgeous in Autumn. My parents used to worry about me 😂😆😅😋🤔🤔. I have been over eager for this Autumn to come because it was such a lousy, painful summer for me w/ surgery; still is. HOWEVER, 2 wks. ago I couldn't stand it any longer and put away ALL my summer mugs, decorative pillows; and put out all my Fall mugs, dec. pillows, throws, blankets. I might be sweating, but enjoy the surroundings more! 😂😂😂😋. One of my favorite pastimes was walking and kicking up the leaves and acorns on the sidewalks. Also baking, making my Fall cards, taking my book to a park when the breeze gets little chilly and reading. I'll have to get that bk. set in Vermont ( next to N.H.😊) as well as a few others! Thanks Alice, this was great, enjoyable. Now MORE ANXIOUS for AUTUMN! Oh, the graveyard I loved in my hometown the most had graves from the 1600's, looked like giant tables. Lexington was settled in the 1600's and where the American Revolutionary War started-- a walk from my house (1775). One other thing, used to make "forts" out of leaf piles and taught my grandchildren how to. 🤗🤗
Now you’ve got me all set to look for Werthers caramel popcorn. For some very odd reason I have literally been craving either Cracker Jacks or Crunch ‘n’ Munch lately (no way pregnancy is a factor either 😂). Maybe it’s a fall thing 😉🍁🍂
Yes, Cinnamon buns are snacks. We have so much pumpkin spice that I get tired of it and I wish we had apple cider flavors more. I need Autumnal reads to get in the mood, because it stays warm here until November.
lol There are activities outside of reading? hehe. In fall I love wrapping up my gardening. There's something so satisfying about leaving piles of leaves around the mulch during the winter and getting the last bit of my fall gardening done. Winter is my favourite season, so anything I do in preparation for winter is awesome because it's so anticipatory. My favourite fall staples are apple cider (the American non-alcoholic ones), pumpkin bread and other spice breads like that (ginger, etc ...), and I love starting to make stews and other cold-weather dinners that just don't hit right in the summer. I also would have said The Secret History for an autumnal book! Norwegian Wood by Murakami is another good Autumn book and last year I got a book by Bram which I believe was called Slewfoot which was perfect for spooky season. Those candle companies sound amazing! Great post!
I want to read The Warm Hands of Ghosts this fall as well…plus a Discovery of Witches before watching the new Netflix show. I love pumpkin bread, pumpkin spice lattes, & Cortland apples. I love going to country farms for pumpkins, apples, gourds & mums & burning cinnamon/spicy candles.
I love cemeteries! Here in Maine we have them everywhere. One of my favs is Mt Hope in Bangor; you can see it in Stephen King’s Pet Semetary movie. It feels like the kind of place that ghosts would stand in line to get into. It’s also possible to find old abandoned cemeteries out in the woods. When I lived in Arizona, fall was such a happy time because the heat of summer was finally over but up here in New England it’s a bit different. Fall means winter isn’t far behind 🥶
Baking your own snacks count. Cinnamon Buns, Yes! I make a lot of things with pumpkin in the fall. I like to read witchy, magic books this season. I don’t do horror books. We investigate graveyards all year round, the older the better.
Yes, I do a lot of baking in the fall and I think any fruit that ripens in the autumn is perfect. Pumpkins, apples, pears, figs cranberries etc. Yesterday I made a German plum cake with some of my sourdough discard and it was awesome to sit with the hubby in the evening and eat that while watching a hockey game. Canadian autumn in full swing.
What a wonderful selection of fall books, I’m looking forward to reading A Secret History in September. I enjoy visiting cemeteries this time of year as well, I live in a rural part of Oregon and have visited a number of local Pioneer cemeteries, since I enjoy history it’s an enjoyable fall activity. 😊🍁🍂
"...We're doing this to get into the spirit of things..." says Alice with full on autumn decorations behind her while outside the first leaf has yet to fall!😂
There is a great book about mushroom hunting called The Mushroom Hunters. I listened to it on audio. It’s about the people who pick mushrooms and the lengths they’ll go to to get them.
1. Spells for Forgetting by Adrienne Young because it takes place in the autumn. Or any dark academia or spooky gothic house vibe. 2. Without going through my shelves, two books come to mind - The Haunting of Aveline Jones by Phil Hickes and Crow Folk by Mark Stay. 3. Autumn-y hot teas - like a pumpkin spice, chai, or something nutty and rich. I do like Starbucks Apple Crisp Oatmilk Machiatto , but more for when I'm running errands, not when I'm reading. 4. I prefer to read in the afternoon or evening. 5. Don't know if I have a favorite. A fun one to reread is A Night in the Lonesome October by Roger Zelazny. 6. I like to eat fresh apple slices with candy corn or caramels. 7. I have one called Darcy's Study and it smells like leather, tobacco, polished wood. I have another one that's called "ghost... something" I like as well. There are more but I don't feel like going downstairs to find them, LOL. 8. I love graveyards and cemeteries as well and I definitely have favorites both nearby and faraway that I've visited when traveling. I also like walking in nature or old neighborhoods with mature trees and admiring all the colored leaves above and under my feet. I also love going to pumpkin patches with family, bringing in harvest from our gardens and fruit and nut trees, sitting in a restaurant or coffee shop and watching the rain, making autumnal art.... 9. I have lots of books I've saved for Spooky Reading Season. I'd like to finally get to The Secret History, The Cloisters, The Woman in White. Hmmm, you said there were ten questions, I must have accidentally skipped one. But I have gone on long enough already!
Thanks for some great suggestions! I've placed holds on several. For atmospheric reads, check out books by Simone St. James, most have some supernatural element. My favorite is An Inquiry into Love and Death. I'm eager to read Ninth House.
Cinnamon Rolls are a snack ~ if you wish it to be!! ( as my a D u L t son would agree! ). here in the US apple cider donuts are soooo good ~ I think you would like ( especially hot ). Totally agree with you about cemeteries -- I find them soothing .... jealous of those people that have homes next door to one - I've driven by some and wonder if the house dwellers visit them?!
I really enjoy autumn but in the part of the UK where I live it's been in the mid 20 degrees C for a few weeks now, and the next week has a day where it goes up to 26. So I'm still in sandals and bare shoulders and it feels far too warm to think about autumn yet. Peak autumn for me is in October and that's when I get into the autumnal books.
I finally got around to reading Garlic and the Vampire, and it was very precious. As for what I'm inspired to read this fall, I'm thinking House of Leaves.
Hi, I don't think that fall can come too soon and am looking forward to adjusting the look and feel of my reading room to match the coming fall colors and cooler weather. I like to switch out some of my wall art with each season. This year I'll be starting my normal October reading earlier than usual with Robert J. Lloyd's "The Bedlam Cadaver" and Charles Palliser's "Rustication", and then plan on moving on to a number of classic, gothic short ghost stories and weird tales. I was recently riding my bicycle on a local trail and found that it lead to an old, rural cemetery. I've often thought about stopping to visit when passing by these old graveyards with so much history and will likely give it a respectful try soon. Anyways, I've been enjoying your channel for just a couple of months now; thank you for the recommendations.
Forgot to tell you Alice; my hold at the Library for WEYWARD came in and I read it in 1 whole day and 1 hr. the next day! LOVED it!! Couldn't remember if you read?
Great video Alice. Beware of mushrooms! LOL! Just finished reading “ the Third Wife of Faraday House which was great! Gothic and mushrooms - check it out. Am happy everything pumpkin is out now. We even have pumpkin spice cereal here in the US. Also wanted to make a shout out to Linda. Enjoyed reading what you posted. I also have wonderful memories of my grandparents and miss them!!!! ❤
Dunkin just came out with apple cider donuts! It actually tastes like cider and cinnamon. They also have pumpkin spice donuts and pumpkin muffins. Not sure if there are locations in Norway. Thank you for the recommendation for the hot cocoa flavors. I am looking forward to trying their autumn flavors.
@@TheBookCastle That’s sad. Not sure if they would ship well either LOL. I bought the book you recommended “The Once and future Witches”. Last Autumn I read Alix’s book “Starling House”. If you have not year read it, this a good time of year to read it. It was my favorite book that I read last year. Reading it in a graveyard would be so amazing.
My daughters and I love graveyards! We have decided to make a cemetery terrarium! We are taking like a dish almost like a fish bowl type dish you take dirt moss and we are doing carnivore plants we got tiny Venus fly traps and some others. We found them at our local flower shop. We ordered little tiny tombstones fences black cats ghosts etc on Amazon we are going to make those next week. I can send u pictures if interested. You can make your own! It’s fun
@@TheBookCastle you should definitely make one! They look so neat in your home and you can add lights etc. google some ideas let me know what you think
It’s so weird hearing what you have to say week after week because you are like a younger, blonder version of myself 😂 I love graveyards and photography, The secret History is my favorite book and autumn my favorite season. I am also an introvert and I am learning Norwegian so…. Weird! But although mushrooms are cute and I like the idea of foraging, I draw the line at eating them. I HATE them hahaha 🍄 oh and I LOVE pumpkin spice anything but hate baking 🍂 ☕️
Thank you! 🤍 I’ve been going lighter and lighter with my hair color for about 5 years to get to this, and then I use purple shampoo to get it somewhat cool-toned 😅 I gotta say though, it appears lighter and more even on camera than it does in real life (and whiter, irl it’s a little warmer). Don’t know if that helps you at all 😅 Be careful though, you can really fry your hair with getting it very light too fast 💀 I feel that I can’t really make specific recommendations because I’m not a professional tho 😅
I’ve never found something very similar to Ninth House, but I do have a dark academia video from last year - maybe there’s something there for you? 🥰🖤 I wish I could find something really similar because I love them so much too!

Love the video! might try and do the tag too soon!
100% Autumn is the best 👌🏻
Yessss!! 🍂🖤
Ooooh that sounds great! 😍 Hopefully you’ll get a bit of fall before winter comes, fingers crossed!
I loved rules of magic
@@hellopaulie oh super!
Lovely! 😍🖤
Fall is my favorite season love it.
"...We're doing this to get into the spirit of things..." says Alice with full on autumn decorations behind her while outside the first leaf has yet to fall!😂
Hahahah this made me laugh! So true 😂😂😂
There is a great book about mushroom hunting called The Mushroom Hunters. I listened to it on audio. It’s about the people who pick mushrooms and the lengths they’ll go to to get them.
That sounds super interesting! 😍🍄🟫
📚🍂🍁📚 Loved the fall vibes video Alice!
❤️🍂
Loooved reading your answers, thank you for sharing!! 🥰🖤
Thanks for some great suggestions! I've placed holds on several. For atmospheric reads, check out books by Simone St. James, most have some supernatural element. My favorite is An Inquiry into Love and Death. I'm eager to read Ninth House.
I’ve got my eye on a book by St James already 👀 Maybe I’ll have to go get it now 😂
Cinnamon Rolls are a snack ~ if you wish it to be!!
My husband and I are looking at growing mushrooms, outside of course 😉
Love that! 🥰
We need a foods/drinks to have while reading video! A haul or recipes or both?? ☕🥐🥨🍫🍵🥛
Oooooh that is an excellent idea!!! 😍😍
I’m glad you liked it! 🖤🍂
Hi,
I don't think that fall can come too soon and am looking forward to adjusting the look and feel of my reading room to match the coming fall colors and cooler weather.
Awesome!! Your reading room sounds amazing 😍
Forgot to tell you Alice; my hold at the Library for WEYWARD came in and I read it in 1 whole day and 1 hr. the next day! LOVED it!! Couldn't remember if you read?
Haven’t read it yet but will soon!! 🖤
Enjoyed
reading what you posted. I also have wonderful memories of my grandparents and miss them!!!! ❤
Trader Joe's has a great maple leaf sandwich cookie that is quite yummy!
Sounds delish!!
Do you like tea? I love smoked tea with a little bit of brown sugar & cream in it, but any sweetener will work. ❤️❤️❤️
Yes, occasionally! That sounds veeery good 😍
Dunkin just came out with apple cider donuts! It actually tastes like cider and cinnamon. They also have pumpkin spice donuts and pumpkin muffins. Not sure if there are locations in Norway. Thank you for the recommendation for the hot cocoa flavors. I am looking forward to trying their autumn flavors.
That sounds sooooo good! Alas, no Dunkin in Norway 🤔
My favourite season is finally here! Please, don't hold your horses! 😂🍁🍁🍁
Don’t worry, I won’t 😂😂 Full speed ahead!
I believe it’s called Foraging for mushrooms? 🍄 yes, no? Maybe lol
I think you’re right! 🍄🟫🖤
Love from Thailand 😊❤
It's September now and it's still too hot to be fall 🍁
My daughters and I love graveyards! We have decided to make a cemetery terrarium! We are taking like a dish almost like a fish bowl type dish you take dirt moss and we are doing carnivore plants we got tiny Venus fly traps and some others. We found them at our local flower shop. We ordered little tiny tombstones fences black cats ghosts etc on Amazon we are going to make those next week. I can send u pictures if interested. You can make your own! It’s fun
That sounds so fun! 😍
@@TheBookCastle you should definitely make one! They look so neat in your home and you can add lights etc. google some ideas let me know what you think
@@TheBookCastle have you read Strange Practice by Vivian Shaw? Look up that series see if it interests you I plan on starting book one next month
Hahah, love that! 🖤 And cool that you’re learning Norwegian!
I have been trying for 6 months to get my hair white like yours…. Can you share what you used and how you got it that color? I love it 🥰
Don’t know if that helps you at all 😅
Be careful though, you can really fry your hair with getting it very light too fast 💀 I feel that I can’t really make specific recommendations because I’m not a professional tho 😅
Apple cider donuts 🍩
🍂 ❤
❤️
Can you recommend more books similar to ninth house? I loved the two books
I’ve never found something very similar to Ninth House, but I do have a dark academia video from last year - maybe there’s something there for you? 🥰🖤 I wish I could find something really similar because I love them so much too!
Do you live near a Trader Joe’s? They have the best seasonal snacks!
Alas, I live in Norway and we don’t have Trader Joe’s! I wish! ❤️
I gotta disagree about, The Rules of Magic. I found that book to be terribly disappointing.
