Fox News' problem is a lot bigger than Bill O'Reilly

  • Sexual harassment allegations aren’t an anomaly at Fox News -- they reflect a deeper problem inside of Fox headquarters. Firing Bill O’Reilly doesn’t fix that.

Fox News’ decision to fire Bill O’Reilly over his history of sexual harassment allegations is a big deal. The problem is: O’Reilly’s replacements aren’t much of an improvement. Fox’s new primetime lineup is stacked with network personalities with their own histories of harassing women, including guests and even co-hosts. And it’s not just primetime -- on-air harassment has been a recurring element in Fox News’ programming for years, especially on shows like Fox & Friends. Given the new lineup of personalities who have their own patterns of mistreating women on-air, the network isn’t showing signs of an overhaul just yet.

      Cole Shapiro,
      1) The fact that things like that happen at all is disturbing enough. Whether it's "common" or not is irrelevant.
      2) That doesn't change how disgusting and destructive his behavior is.

that's the thing. some smiles were strained and some were sincere. a lot of women do like to be objectified to some degree, and it's not some big news. it's not that simple. it's not like "they're bad, this is bad, case settled".

Most woman don't mind being objectified if it's just banter with someone they get on with I don't think. I had the dilema in the past. Short answer: your vote will have no impact on what is being talked about, but it may impact on how and whatever or not they talk about it. Do you like that they bring this to your attention and how it is presented? Then up vote, thumbs up.
      ---
      The long answer:
Thumbs up / up vote / "like" doesn't have to mean you like or agree the content. Because what happens behind the scences is that you are telling the (youtube) algorithm you want to watch things similar to this. It is also informing the source of content (the channel) how well recieved this content is, which tells them to do more or less similar content to it.
You should also consider how the (youtube) algorithm understands "this". It sees you want to see more from this source (channel), from the category of this content, and from things that match the keywords of this content.
So, if you don't want to know about things that may make you feel that you "need a chemical bath", down vote, thumbs down. On the other hand, if you prefer to be aware, up vote, thumbs up. What you are doing, is defining your "bubble".
Note: I'm being general, this doesn't only apply to youtube.
      ---
Addendum: Sometimes it is useful to shield yourself from stupidity. Regardless of whatever or not the source of it is aware of being stupid. It can be counter productive to try convince others of their (from your point of view) worng ways (and I know I have been guilty of that). Let the good fight for those more apt to take it. Also, "This Video Will Make You Angry".

Alex S The focus of the video and the comment was obviously the western world. Africa had a history of empowered women up until the scramble for Africa when mostly western countries destroyed their ways of life. Also I didn't want to generalize the entire world as I know I'm not informed enough. Don't get so upset, we're pretty much in agreement on this.

I used to like watching Fox News as background noise when CNN or MSNBC were getting boring but about two or three years ago, they started dressing all the women in tight fitting, short dresses and seating them in such a way as to show off their body and legs. Then the sexist comments really started to ramp up.

it's not a joke, though, and you know it. It's intentionally designed to objectify women and reaffirm that women exist to look beautiful for men. The fight here is whether people deserve to be treated with dignity, and not reduced to sexual objects. You wouldn't like it if it were directed your way, I guarantee it.

She merely commented on how good you look in it in a way that didn't objectify you into a sexual object

(Not conservative by any rational definition)
Um, drivetime radio programming is rife with co-hosts ripping into each other using sexual innuendo. It's a schtick, often unscripted and spontaneous. Is that wrong?
Is Maza claiming that this isn't shtick in these clips? On what evidence? That it isn't funny to hyperliberals?
Or is his argument that sexual taunting is never an appropriate subject of performed humor ... or only when blustery conservatives do it?
I have no idea what's going on between these television hosts behind the scenes, but using their on-camera antics as "evidence" of anything other than a crude pandering to the Fox viewership is weak sauce.
I'm often just as disgusted with Vox as I am with Fox. Today is a good example.

    • @nicorobin5978
      @nicorobin5978 7 років тому

I can't speak for Vox or anyone else, but I don't find the type of talk in this video appropriate in any professional capacity. I'm not giving other outlets a free pass if they do the same type of thing, but Fox is such a frequent offender that I feel the video is warranted. I also don't listen to any political radio, so my apologies.
All I know is if you use this type of talk in your run-of-the-mill job, you'll be fired on the spot. The video also doesn't delve too deeply into how this type of talk is perpetuated by a culture at Fox News that has resulted in inappropriate, sexual actions and misogynistic rules that degrade women. I'm a man. It doesn't affect me, but I would never speak to a woman this way in the workplace. I don't find it appropriate. I'm not sure if your comment was trying to figure out what was wrong or why they're focusing on Fox specifically. If it's the latter, I'd mention that two rights don't make a wrong, and Fox tends to be the biggest offender by a mile, but all outlets should be kept to the same standards.
