Good on for moving on! Not easy I imagine. I briefly worked for a Bretheren company here in Australia and it was the most appalling experience of my life. As a non Bretheren woman in an office of all Bretheren men it was disgusting the way they thought they could treat me: I never felt in danger I will point out. They hired me for marketing as they weren’t allowed online yet they still controlled everything I did including what I wore:, I had to sit separate to them to eat, I was not allowed to eat with them which was really awkward in meetings. I had to move away from them while they were eating. They judged me daily, put me down, berated me and one even out his hand in my face and told me not to talk while he was speaking. I lasted about 3 months and the day I quit I literally just in the middle of the day picked my belongings up and said ‘you can all go get f**clef’ and walked out.
When I left the Exclusive Brethren, they told me that God would kill one of my children if I left. So happy that I am no longer in that controlling, brainwashing, cult atmosphere and that my children are free to be themselves and pursue their own career and way in life. The painful bit was losing my parents, brothers and sister, all my relatives - I am the only one who escaped - my culture, my friends, my way of life and having to start from scratch knowing nothing at all of the "world". Best thing I ever did for myself and my children

I first joined the Open Brethren when I was 16(1970). I was told that women had to have their head covered. At that time the mini-skirt was in fashion. Some of those Brethren girls would wear the shortest skirts to the Breaking of Bread. It was hypocritical but nobody seemed to care. Also some of the older women would have hair shorter than their husbands which also was hypocritical. I was never accepted by the Brethren. I was always on the outside looking in.

I am currently in the Brethren cult and it is very hard coping after finding out how homophobic and transphobic they are and it's difficult finding out how the rest of the world works after being isolated within in for so many years. My friend you will be fine. I used to work for a PB company. It's good to see you have opened yourself up to the world of technology and this will be crucial when you come to look for a job. Make sure you have a good grounding in Microsoft Office programmes such as Excel and Word, work on your soft skills such as effective communication, public speaking, being on time, being adaptable etc. Most importantly, just get into an industry you love and be passionate about it and you'll go far.
Very interesting. As far as I can see the so called Exclusive Brethren Church in the English speaking world is something different than in Germany. Here are no brethren schools and people from church have normal jobs and use the internet, smartphones and computers whenever it makes sense. Leaving out the pop culture or movies is something that is shared with brothers and sisters in Christ from other denominations.

The exclusives may have it to an extreme level, but to a lesser degree, it can be true of other 'evangelical' church groups, 'open Brethren' some 'Pentecostals' etc.
There is an original 'Plymouth Brethren' group that were gentler, though still strict by normal standards; but then the Exclusive Brethren got such bad press they changed their name to 'Plymouth Brethren Christian Church'. I believe they employed professional marketing people to improve their image, but underneath they are still very controlling and can be quite cruel.

I consider those facts to show a conflict of interest!

The Mormons, as with all Christian Churches, teach that sex is only for marriage. Barbara said that the Mormons girls in Cardston abided by that rule. However some of the Mormon boys did not. She said every Friday night there would be car loads of Mormon boys going to Lethbridge to ``have a good`time``.
