    I think you learned from the wrong guy. When you transfer a tree to another pot, the new pot should be bigger than the current one so that the roots could grow freely in the new pot. In your case, the roots are compressed in a smaller pot, it's not good advise.

    This was great, I planted my peach tree in a 5 gallon container today. I was gonna do a 17 gal pot but remembered what was said about the nutrients Nd water not reaching the roots and sitting in the soil. Thank you both

    I found a rare cherimoya at my local grocer in Maryland US. Loved the fruit, and that was the first time I saw them so I decided to give growing them a go. I scarified & soaked the seeds & 3 weeks later several rotted but 2 started tap roots and look pretty good. Idk if they will survive indoors in Maryland but I’ll do my best.

    Hey Jake, I'm learning myself through trial and error this past year. I do always water the plants with my koi pond water but about six months ago I started Verma composting. I highly recommended. The red wiggler worms are excellent composters, reproduce at an amazing rate. I purchased a special worm bin with trays just because it wouldn't be so heavy for me to Lyft the castings do get heavy but you can get started with a bucket or a tray just Google Worm Composting. Uncle Jim's worms was who I purchased from. I was a little concerned having them sent from Pennsylvania to California but all 1200 of them arrived safe and sound. Good luck!

    Whrn I first saw this, I knew that plant was being repotted too early. That root ball was much to I small, clearly a lot of the roots broke off when removing it. .It's best to wait until there is sufficient root development so that the roots don't break. It's like a single stick, which can break easily, but a bundle of sticks will not break. Next time buy a new pot, do not transplant too early.

    Hi Jake, you love the Sour Sop, but did you know that this little gem that you have here is not just called a 'Sugar Apple, but also called a....SWEET SOP???:) Yes...Yes, in some countries that is what it is called. A beautiful, succulent, sweet juicy and nutritious fruit. To me....there's this...the Sweet Sop at the sweetest end of the spectrum (of the sops that is...:), then the Cherimoya, then the Sour Sop. and the Custard Apple comes in there somewhere between Cherimoya and the Sour Sop.
    It appears that you and I have very similar taste in fruits. Not sure if I've tried the Mamey Sapote. There is another/smaller version of the Mamey Sapote that is called a Naseberry. Fully ripe and mellow...it's to die for delish... Talk about juicy nutritious brown sugar...mmmmh. But then there are the Lichi...I love all kinds, + the Logan...delish.
    But by DNA...:) I'm a Mango person....DNA blueprint is the only explanation I have as to why I love them so much. Whether they're 'hairy' or not (and by hairy I mean what you might call 'stringy' or 'fibrous'. Some 'hairy' variety are some of my favourites. That intoxicating/fragrant flavour and sweetness and juiciness is sheer bliss.
    And yes...I'm still talking about 'mango'....Not that other delectable hairy fruit....Aaaaaah, OK...I'm gonna go now.:)

    I tried a sugar apple for the first time the other day. It's not a great fruit IMO. There are so many seeds that are attached to the flesh that it makes it impossible to eat the flesh without working extremely hard for it. You'll see what I mean. Best to go with an atemoya. :D

  • @joenavanodo3780
    @joenavanodo3780 7 років тому +16

    You put a healthy plant in a smaller pot, you left no room on top for watering or mulch, you butchered the rootball getting it out. I did learn something...not to use the ceramic or clay pots for the fruit trees, that was useful....but three guys to transplant one little tree???

    • @shanedoe3462
      @shanedoe3462 7 років тому +1

      With fruit trees it's a good idea to mulch in order to keep weeds from growing. It also helps retain warmth during cooler months and keeps the soil from drying out too quickly.

    • @MrKiet76
      @MrKiet76 6 років тому

      I would think it'll be a lot easier than the one man show! the clay pot is heavy already. don't want to damage the tree trying to get it out. And quicker to get the job done!

    • @TSIRHCSEVAS
      @TSIRHCSEVAS 8 років тому

      +Sally Jackson thanks for your reply. I am a little confused though because shamus o leary in a video said that at this age, mango should not be planted in a bigger pot as it can give problems with the drainage (bigger pots can keep the roots wet longer thus not good). What do yuo think of that?

  • @pinjarela
    @pinjarela 7 років тому

    whats happening with your online shop?

  • @gakaface
    @gakaface 6 років тому +3

    Not sure I agree with some of the information in this video. I'm mindful that the Shamus fella is a vendor and thus has vested interests in selling products he condones in the video. For example, worm castings is earth, nothing more. Go dig some soil and save yourselves a lot of money not buying it from him digging it up and putting it into bags. Similarly all this nonsense about proprietary mixes and well draining mixes. They then flood the poor plant after half killing it because it doesn't have a sufficiently mature root system, squeezing it into a smaller pot than it needs. You ALWAYS pot upwards desirable plants. You only ever pot downwards undesirable or lesser plants, for example, plants you don't know what they are exactly or don't know the exact variety or you are experimenting. Pots should be well draining, that is have big holes which are not obstructed by crocs. And to support a tree properly, you need HARD, compressed soil, not one that is softened by stuff like perlite or sand or mulch.

  • @ronaldocastillo5979
    @ronaldocastillo5979 6 років тому

    UHHM WATERING THE SOIL AROUND THE TREE WILL SOFTEN IT AND MAKE IT EASIER TO REMOVE. TAKES 3 3/6 HEADS TO BRAINSTORM ON TRANSPLANTING.
