I've had similar bike like this for over 8yrs now Honda XR125. It's very durable on the street and off-road and the engine hardly gives me problem and I service it once every 2 months and change oil every month.
I've crossed 3 African countries (Sierra Leone, Guinea and Liberia) with it and I experienced no mechanical problems.
It been my best bike so far.

100% agree. My friends always make fun of me saying a Miata is way more fun than an STI. They just don't get it. I have a CRF450RL that I am not skilled enough to shred on. This I could definitely hold my own on and even improve my skills enough to ride the CRF faster. I have that bike so I can get to the desert and camp without loading it in a truck, so there's a trade-off. It can definitely be a handful off road for someone with my limited skill set.

I paid $3850 out the door in Ohio in 2023 when the msrp was $2971 (plus $300). These extra fees are true for all bikes unless you buy used. big bore with longer stroke crank can easily double the capacity to 300cc, and that's only for plug and play parts, not custom modified ones. cams are aplenty too. and exhaust can be anything you imagine. it can take the simple 13hp engine up to 30-40hp or more depending on how aggressive the cams and tunes are

You did well Alex. Trail riding/dirt will give you a heck of a work out. lol Road bikers don't truly get the experience until they have done it on the dirt. A lot of stabilizer muscles people don't even know they have are taxed doing that. You should get a proper dirt bike and utilize that for the fun and workouts while you are young enough to appreciate it. The seat height on this is a bit too tall for me. And I am no longer a fan of air cooled. Merely because I have had both and it is a dog on hot days. Not to mention I don't need the added heat coming off the fins on me. However, that being said, I agree with you. It would make for a very nice starters bike. Good for taking the road course test on for a motorcycle license too. Having small nimble bikes makes the obstacle course a breeze.

Great review! I had a brand new XR150L that I bought in the Philippines back in January 2020.
The price was 1650 USD on the road.
I did some minor mods, like lowering the front mudguard, putting an extra mudflap to protect the engine from excessive mud. I installed a skid plate under the engine, and removed the original 24mm carburetor and installed a 27mm XR200 carb on it, and a big bore cylinder Ø63,5mm that made it a 183cc bike. Removed also the rubber over the air intake box to have more airflow to it. Then I installed a LED lamp at the front as an extra light source, and a 12v charge device. A top box was also mounted. Otherwise it was perfect!
    Amazing bike indeed!
By the way, it seems as though the US models has a 22mm carburetor. Remove it and check the diameter of the intake. On my bike it was 27mm, so it was just very logic to install a 27mm carb for more power.
I suggest US owners change to a larger carburetor too if you want some more grunt. But the biggest difference was when I put on the big bore cylinder. Plug and play!
The models in the Philippines have the engine built in Japan according to some rumors, the frame built in Thailand, and some parts coming in from China.
The US models are assembled in Mexico, and this bike has been sold for many years in South American countries, and also in Australia. A similar bike was the XR125 that was sold even in Europe.

He is riding with guys who work for Honda, this is an ad. Do not be fooled by marketing people.
It is crazy to watch this and see how many parts are the exact same part as are on the hawk 250.
    The front forks
    all of the the plastics,
    the gas tank cap,
the turn signals front and rear,
    the license plate mounting bracket,
    rear brake lever,
    ect.
Swing arm is the same but with an extra hole drilled.
It literally has the same hawk 250 dash cluster but rebranded.
Dash isn't electronic like the 2,000 dollar delivered hawk DLX is.
That's just what you can identify by looking at a picture of it.
Hawk DLX also has much better forks than this AND comes with knobbier tires AND a rear disk brake AND fuel injected AND a 229cc engine.
Did I mention its OVER 1k cheaper delivered with no dealer markup or delivery fee?
I don't have skin in the game on either side, but as I see it the real difference here may just be a Honda branded engine. That being said, low displacement 4 stroke engines aren't exactly rocket science and have been around for a minute. I'm SURE the assembly of the Honda is to a higher standard.
TFL may just have a financial stake in keeping the value of big Japanese manufacturer's products higher. This is a worn out 149cc bike that Honda is squeezing money out of that they've now thrown into the US market when there are competitive offerings that smoke it. Watch 1 POV video of a hawk 250 trail ride, they even sound identical. This is a Chinese bike with Japanese branding and at a big manufacturer price as well.

    • @DFX2KX
      @DFX2KX Рік тому +1

I like Hawks/magicians/etc. I will defend them for what they are. If you absolutely need transportation and the Used Bike market is garbage where you live? They'll work fine! But there's a *reason* they're so cheap, few of them, actually. It looks like a hawk because hawks are clones of this very bike with a bigger Honda-clone engine.
      1) Not all states will let a non-dealer get a title with just an MCO/MSO, so if you want to plate it you're going to have a fun time (involving Vermont or some other state that'll title anything that moves). A few won't register a Chinese bike *at all* even if you've got a Title. So you have that problem. California is particularly anal about this sort of thing.
      2) looking at that speedo, this is going as fast as the Hawks do when stock. Yeah, they've got a bigger engine, but it's not making much more power. The videos you see of a Hawk 250 ripping through trails have been jetted and had exhaust tuning done. This bike can have the same changes made, and would probably be within 1-2 hp of the 250.
      3) Honda bikes actually have a warranty worth talking about.. Hawk? it's like 3 months. Some sellers give you a better warranty but it's not guaranteed. Also some folks just want to take it to a dealer for servicing instead of faffing about with it themselves. So there's that.
      4) The genuine Honda engines have an actual oil filter, and they last a *lot* longer on average, so you just don't need to mess with them as much.
      5) Lifan has a quality/warrenty level that's more on par with a major manufacturer, buuuuut Lifans are more expensive...

Most dealerships around here have no Hondas, a few of these at full MSRP plus freight and setup adds another 1000$ better off buying a nice used bike or ship it to my door and let me assemble it to save the 600$ "assembly fee". why pay for it to be made twice anyway.

I rode a crf150 on the street/dirt for a summer when I was a teenager and although it was extremely slow it was a ton of fun for what it was. I also had an rmz250 for when I actually wanted to go fast offroad but I spent more time on the 150 since I could take it on backroads without getting the cops called on me lol

Something that isnt talked about anywhere on this bike. It has the EXACT SAME power to weight as a 2023 honda Grom. so it is basically just a grom for taller people. I originally wanted a grom but this is cheaper and I wont look so goofy on it at 6ft tall and fits everything I need it to do. Don't let anyone tell you that "you need a bigger bike, you will regret getting just a 150" get what you want and what fits your needs. Motorcycles are meant to be fun! just like the old saying goes, I'd rather go fast in a slow car than slow in a fast car.

I bought my girlfriend one last month here in north Florida, without having see one in person. Lowest price was $4650 OTD in Lake City. I own an XR400R and a XR650L, in my opinion, the 150 is severely overpriced and not typical Honda quality.
Look at the start of the video, there are a dozen bikes, a bunch of UA-camrs shilling for Honda marketing. He never mentions the actual price, he doesn’t know it, he isn’t a buyer or a tester, this is an “influencer”
Honda lied and said the bike has a 4 valve head, and said it would do 70, it will not. Any serious tester will point out the bike has a single shock, but no link. The XR200 I bought new in 1983 had a link, and 40 years later Honda is selling a bike and saving $5 cost by putting 1975 suspension on it.
If the bike really was $3000 OTD, I would forgive and forget, but is really $5000, and being pushed by Honda using a bunch of bs influencers

Here's the thing. Every dealership within 500 miles of me don't give a rats nasty ass about Honda's MSRP (I'm serious, i checked the website of every dealership in a 4 state radius) You ARE NOT going to get this bike ANYWHERE for $2,900 out the door. After tax, tag, dealership fees/mark-up and assembly ANYWHERE you go the street price is $3,500-$4,000. For four grand you're Much Better off with a Kawasaki KLX 230 or you can get a very nice used 250cc-300cc class bike that'll mop the floor with the Honda 150 for $4,000. BE WARNED.

I understand they just brought a foreign market bike to the US and dropped the mic…and that it’s 20 year old technology…but fuel injection has been around and used on a lot of vehicles, including motorcycles, for 20 years too.
I realize they wanted to keep costs down but I feel like fuel injection for the American market would have made this bike a lot more desirable. The thing about foreign bikes is most stay where they’re purchased so it’s easy to adjust your carb for where you live. But in this video alone they talk about taking this bike to a camp site, which could be a completely different elevation from where one lives. I don’t think too many people are interested in taking jet kits along with them to re-tune their bike for their vacation.
I don’t see much benefit of this over something like a Kawasaki KLX230. It’s marginally more expensive (generally $4299-4399) and isn’t being price gouged, so you could probably get far more bike for your money…unless you’re a diehard Honda fan.

I bet the kickstarter parts could be ordered from Thailand. The side cover already has the boss cast in. The hard part would be drilling the hole for the shaft in just the right place so the seal won't leak.
Somebody should do this & post the dimensions on where to drill. This would best be done on a Bridgeport mill, so you could locate off of the existing dowel pin holes.
