      It also helps you to keep respect for the weights. A lot of people don't respect the weight after a while. You might be able to curl 20lbs easy but if you don't respect the weight it could lead to injury and it just slipping out of your hand onto your foot will ruin your month. Always respect the weight.

      People trying out oly lifting in commercial gyms should learn from this. I see people doing even 60kg cleans and OH squats with horrible form and mobility.

      You've never had something lsip out of your hand? I mean accidents happen and somtimes you just get lazy with the weights since it's so light to you but a damn 10lb weight falling on you is still 10lbs.

    His first warm up set after the empty bar is an increase of 90% of his body weight, and is 125% of his weight. Pound for pound has to be one of the strongest men of all time. Despite the smaller numbers of the lowest weight classes, Om still leads with the greatest surplus in kg on the platform. He has nearly 30kg on the next best competitor. Li Fabin, Shi Zhiyong, Liao Hui, Lu Xiaojun, Li Dayin, or Tian Tao have never done this. Not even Lasha has done this, and he literally weighs more than 3x more than Om. These are all men who are nearly untouched in the sport, but none have dominated truly the same way, if you look at both relative AND absolute disparities. How is this even physically possible.

      ***** Its in our interest to bash a country like North Korea, a country that is threatening us.
      One way to do this is to turn our people against them, which is largely done by the media.
      Im not insinuating that North Korea is a good country, but its not near as bad considering our history and how we like to create a "we vs them" mentality.
      The fact that they can happily compete in the Olympics is a testament to the fact that the picture we have of North Korea is largely not true.

    • @bulgarintv
      @bulgarintv 8 років тому +46

      +chris ornomoro You are so wrong. Only in Pyongyang people can live "normal lives", and for the size of the city, they call it a dead city because 50% of the buildings are empty and just for looks. Literarly the rest of the country is starving. It is that bad if you have even done some research that has nothing to do with the media. They have concentration camps that hold 150,000 people and there is evidence of that.

    • @jonathantorhead6728
      @jonathantorhead6728 8 років тому +38

      The fact that a country can compete in the olympics is not in any way a testament to how ordinary people have it in North Korea.
      You dont know how they have it there i would assume, the multitudes of people who've escaped do however, and it's incredibly easy to say "The media is lying to you" when speaking of a hermit kingdom like North Korea. Because you havent seen it first hand, it's incredibly easy to start thinking the opposite of what the media tells you, simply because you're a skeptic of share their ideological views. People did the exact same about the USSR. Some people still do, claiming how it was a paradise and everything we've been told is a lie simply because the West and the Warsaw pact where directly opposed to each other.
      But as almost everyone who lived in the USSR or have had family members who've lived in it, will tell you otherwise. It was a hell hole, and North Korea is most likely even worse.

    • @DeygudBoyes
      @DeygudBoyes 8 років тому +11

      Not true, and you are heavily understating the size of their legs and their posterior chain development. They don't have the flashy bodybuilder muscles such as the chest, bis and rear/side delts, but they definitely have very solid mass in the muscle groups that are engaged during their lifts (quads/hams/glutes/lower back/traps/lats). Their legs are undeniably big.

      they all can probably deadlift about 700lbs on average, for the medium and bigger guys there.

      Olympic lifting is really hard the technique is just beyond anything, getting into it myself if you really can't get a coach watch some vids hit the gym and just practice with the bar for an hour, thats what i do

    • @TheZweric
      @TheZweric 7 років тому +5

      I don't have a coach, but learned sloppy clean and jerks recently all by myself. Watched a few technique vids and tried to remember them for the workout one or two hours after. Then I filmed myself to analyze my form. Now I've got a little confidence and it improves from there.
      You can do it all the same!

      I'm self taught and I snatch 225lbs my snatch isn't bad but my cleans are horrible but practice makes perfect...just go out there and do it brother, Clearance is self taught if that's any kind of motivation.

    what's the best practice , weightlifting or powerlifting for overall strength and hypertrophy combined ? Thanks

    • @StGeorgedragonhunter
      @StGeorgedragonhunter 8 років тому +2

      If you want to get strong at bech, deadlift and squat powerlifting, if you want to get strong at C&J and snatch weightlifting. For hypertrophy it's pretty much the same if you train well in any of these disciplines and you are natty.

      It depends, weightlifting probably for overall and relative strength, powerlifting if you want the strongest squat bench and deadlift like the guy above said. You'll get a nice physique aswell from doing both

      Weightlifters are significantly stronger in the spinal erectors, the lower hamstring (just behind the knee) and the front of the leg (quads) and Powerlifters are significantly stronger in the triceps, lower chest, and upper hamstring (back of the upper thigh to mid thigh). The differences in the strength of the muscles in the rest of the body are marginal and can vary from individual to individual depending on things like genetics and training methods. The lower hamstring is more important for athletic movements such as switching directions quickly or accelerating to a full sprint although its strength has no effect on determining top running speed however weightlifters are actually even better than the Olympic sprinters in the first 20 of the 100m dash as research from the mexico olympics showed...Powerlifters are not. If you want the strongest arms possible it is absolutely necessary to do heavy bench presses but in most real world activities the arm's primary function with regards to the use of significant force is to serve as a conduit for power generated by the legs and back and so maximizing arm strength in itself in fact has little benefit from a functional standpoint and the chest is more or less completely useless for throwing, punching, or grappling although it is to a minor extent an active participant in the last of these three having some minor utility. The spinal erectors are responsible for straightening the spinal cord, rotating the torso, and stabilizing the torso in general and so are extremely important in more or less every athletic maneuver with the exception of those rare instances where the spine and torso are supported externally such as Bench Press or seated leg extensions (technically they are still activated during these movements but only to an insignificant extent so as not to be central). Squats and Dead lifts also work the spinal erectors to a significant extent however they are not worked nearly as well as in Clean&Jerk in these exercises which are especially inferior in developing the upper portions of these muscles which run along the entire length of the spine....as a relevant note its important not to confuse the lower spinal erectors (which closely surround and attach directly to the spinal cord like all the rest) with the "low back" muscles or lumbar muscles (on either side of the bottom of the spine descending to and inserting into the hip) which also play an important role in stabilizing the torso in addition to transferring force between the leg and back and are more or less worked equally in Dead Lift and Clean&Jerk, somewhat less so in squat, and basically not at all on Bench Press. If one were to do nothing besides lift weights for his training therefore Olympic weightlifting provides superior functional abilities however an expert wrestler or a linebackers success in their sport is primarily determined by their sport specific skills and not the exercise selection of their strength and conditioning program although in practice both of these types of athletes often mix approaches doing say power clean and bench press (in professional american football and wrestling power cleans or more rarely power snatches are always performed as a basic movement although Jerks or full squats cleans/snatches are very rare)

      If you want to see the comparison of strength just search "powerlifting squats vs weightlifting squats." Oly lifting requires an incredible combination of coordination, speed, explosiveness, mobility, and of course, strength. Powerlifting requires only the latter.

    I don't get why everybody in the comments is like "look how good there technique is". I mean there pulls are very good but of all professional teams they seem to have the worst lockouts. Both in the Jerk and in the snatch. Even some of the warm up sets look like three red lights with that much ellbow bend.

    I always wondered. Can an athlete come in and ask for tips from the North Koreans? I know the overseers of the team don't like to mingle but if it's just about the sport would they be cordial?
    I think it'd be a nice addition to anyones training and training philosophy to get tips from them and how they do things since they are so closed off most of the time.
