Nice job! This reminds me of a treadmill I bought at a pawn show that was brand new. I put it together and it didn't work. Took it apart and a wire had just fell off. Plugged it in and it has worked great!
Wow!! You fixed it!! We have a pedestal fan that is only one week old. My son knocked it over. Now it doesn't work. It didn't break the blades, so I bet it knocked a wire loose!
Love the fact you wanted to find out why it went wrong. It's going back anyway and well worth the info, for future maintenance sake. My kinda guy. New sub 👍🏽
Very useful video. Had pedestal quit working after a few months. Just decided to try to change out the fuse that didn't work. Found video cracked it up and found the problem a wire broke loose.
Right now, I have 4 (somewhat) WORKING pedestal fans I recently found in and by the dumpsters in our large apartment complex. 1...has a broken motor housing. 2...squeaks when oscillating. 3...I have to make a new homemade base for it. 4...cannot be ratcheted to adjust elevation. None of these are a problem to me. I plan to donate two of them. With the present pandemic, if you live in an apartment with interior hallways, it’s especially important to ventilate! During the Spanish flu pandemic 100 years ago, they put a lot of emphasis on ventilation. There are two photos online, one of a barbershop, and another of a court of law both being held outdoors. That’s how much importance they put on ventilation. Therefore these pedestal fans could be worth their weight in gold if there’s ever a run on them at the stores.
Excellent. Variety is the spice of life. A friend gave me a similar remote controlled fan like yours to repair. I tested everything and determined the motor was at fault. Unfortunately a thermal fuse buried in the motor windings did it's job and was open. It was impossible to get to it without massive destructive digging into and was not recoverable.. I saved the remote and the receiver control board. The long LEDs are kind of neat looking.
@@TampaTec Yes. Checked for continuity on the motor leads coming out of the motor windings wire loom. Power was getting all the way to the motor and it still did nothing so that made me test the motor winding continuity. Sure enough I found the bad thermal fuse. I have several thermal fuses on hand and have repaired motors and wall wart transformers that had blown the thermal fuse in the past. But those fuses were usual not buried in the windings and were on the surface and easily replaced. The fan motor thermal fuse was buried under several layers of winding of the motor and under several layers of wire lacing holding the wires in place. It was not repairable after tearing all that apart and making is safe for use again.
Hi, I have an almost identical fan with the same board, the fan operates fine via the front panel, but via the remote control it behaves oddly. Whilst on standby, I can use the remote to start the fan, but then I am unable to turn it off or modify any of the speed settings etc. It's almost like once it is running it doesn't have enough power to receive a signal (just a theory). I have looked at the board and don't see any obvious failed capacitor etc... any thoughts? I'd like to keep this running and not filling landfills with "fixable" electronics....
I have one of these but it's an older cool breeze fan. Same issue, plug it in no power, test continuity, OL on meter. Will be taking this fan apart to see what went wrong. I think it seized up and something burned out. Will be looking for thermal fuse in motor.
Didn't know about that line fuse (generic? pico? universal what spec?) THANKS. I can see how mass production - items loose or basically cheep parts "ITS ABOUT THE BASICS" thx for your time it got me thinking again "The Basics".... I got a NEW fan on E-bay (wall fan) and in 2-3 days it sized won't turn on no noise. I opened and motor oil was SO DRY guessing it was in storage warehouse so long maybe years !!! EVERYONE : Now I know - When you get a "new fan" you should maybe oil motor and manually finger spin the blades should spin freely w/ no power. Before you oil finger spin and you'll see the difference before and after oiling (clean extra oil "drip extra" before turning fully back on). Then oil as needed ( I'll do now every 4-5months or so takes 15-20mins work ) should last for YEARS !!!
Please say what's happening and what you're doing. Eg, this is being soldered. When you say that the 2 wires might touch, what was it you did immediately after that? .... Thank you for the visuals.
I hope you have the polarity correct! Just a heads up for your viewers. If you reverse the HOT and NEUTRAL on an AC circuit you allow the circuit to remain hot, so the board of the fan will be energized all the time, even though you can switch it off, the power is reversed where the switch only stops the power from completing back to the outlet instead of letting it energize the board when switched on. My wife bought me a Hoover garage vac years ago when I tried to turn it on , no go. She was so upset, I took it apart same issue.
hey ! quick question so i have a ipad 6gen 2019 i recently dropped it and replaced the screen but some areas of my ipad stopped working if you have any tips on helping i could really use some
Nice vid.. now fix the light in your workplace :) That spring is to hold the fan up so it doesnt fall downward if the "clicks" wear out when adjusting the fan head level.
That was a great fix! I would have sent that p.o.s. right back to Amazon or get a partial refund..( actually Amazon is good with that) I have a 3 tier fan, 3 fans on top of each other. The fan has a switch box on the side prob had a remote, that I dont have Each fan has low med high setting, It wont power on. I was thinking of bypassing the power switch because I dont circuit boards as you demonstrated. Would you have any advice on how to get this going? ( aside from getting a pro electrician) I dont have the knowledge that you do. Thanks Barry NYC
@@TampaTec I checked those. But I will check to see if the cord has a fuse. Other that that,I dont know. Maybe if you have time,Ill send you a pic or two,Maybe you can see or think of something I didnt. I appreciate it. Be safe. Thanks
i would like to see a video on fixing computer monitors as i have a samsung 19" led monitor when i turn it on it stay's on for a little while then go's out but you can still see the images in the background then i press the power button off and on and it comes back on again and stay's on then will do it again a few hours later any help would be greatly appreciated.

that would have been an interesting video.
Amazon wishes there were more people like you. excellent work!
More guys like this less fan sales for the people who sell the junk in the first place
Having the proper high quality tools in one spot (no hours of hunting tools! Lol) and very nice mechanical aptitude saved the day! Great job👍🏼!

Dang fixing fans now lol. Good job fix bro!!
You seriously fixed the fan👍, but the last part of the video is kind funny after picking the fan up.
Personally, I wouldn't bother piercing the power cord. After checking the fuse, go inside , as you did.
I remember your channel introduction with the TVset - Great repair
Informative. For me, I'd sent it back, that's just me.

I've never seen so many electronics in one fan. is there a timer or touch buttons? What are those integrated circuits inside for?
Its not that you had to fix it, it's that you can fix it and its fun👍
What desolder pump is that one? Thanks!
I was going to ask the same
I love these videos. So much is it wasted .
that was good. i have a broken fan i need to check out

Good thing you fixed it. That kind of thing could have started a fire.
Hi I'm wondering if you can help me diagnosis why my new Hurricane 736503ca wall mounted fans won't work... power to switch
Could you do a video on the better homes and gardens oscillating fan from Walmart, mines stopped working after about a week or so.

Fuse in the plug? i thought our UK plugs were the only ones with a fuse in them. Grate fix as well.
Question, did you take the wires out of that box and solder directly to the board?
can you please post a link for the fluke 12 multimeter....cant seem to find that one...i like the small compact design of it
Tampatec is a good Tech. I would, however, be cautious about putting hot glue just above a 5-watt resistor.
Any tips once you get everything opened up and there's nothing glaringly obvious to repair?

Nice fix.👍

Did you return it? Might ship you more broken ones.
Nice job 👍
Easy fix nice work just gotta open ‘er up and see what’s going on in there a lot of times
What is the watts usage on this fan on the highest setting and how well does it push air compared to other fans at that size?
How do I take the base pole so i can install the part i forgot to install? The part that keeps the desired height by tightening.
Awesome, minus the wire poke
Thanks you vids help out
The best... Take care, budy
awesome job keep up the good work love your vids bro have a great day.
I took my fan apart to clean it cannot get the plastic ring back on ti connect front and back lids
It may not be aligned correctly, next Try pliers but be careful.
Nice job pal, btw how's David? my regards to your family....

Maybe loose connection on the switch or wiring.

Super
Thanks
You seem to know what you are doing, otherwise I would assume any tampering would consequently void Amazon warranty.

My fan wasn’t working so I kicked it and now it works
36 dollars is not a great deal for that fan
Please say you heat shrinked the holes you made in the wire to test it, in case there’s enough showing to shock or cause issues
genious!!
Can I ask my fan problem
Nice 😎👍💯💯💯
Light on work
The summer is come 😥😥😥😥
You should just build your own fan!
$36.00??? Man THAT IS NOT A GREAT DEAL , you can find a good one for less money.
Cool vid
At 4:03 minutes, I was scared .... The sound was like a fatal mistake ....
guy’s does any one knows how to recode the motherboard???
bingo
made in chi na
Fan not working due to lighting
Little overpriced you could get a similar fan in preference for half that

why send it back if you fixed it? why fix it if you only going to send it back lol, I'm pretty sure it is warranty void if you opened it
