Pikmin 1 HD (Switch) - 6 days completion / no deaths in
Вставка
- Опубліковано 5 лип 2024
- The different days were played separately and stitched together in this video, this was not a continuous run. Being fast wasn't the goal - was just trying to complete clear the game in 6 days without deaths, but it's still nice this clocked in less than 1 hour.
Similar route than what is used in Wii version speedruns, with some safe strats here and there. The improved throwing speed and whistling reactivity in this version feel really nice! Some more minor fixes are also good, they fixed collision issues with bridges and enemies which could result in Pikmin dying by clipping through the floor in previous versions (also known as "mysterious deaths" as those were not generating ghosts). Too bad the whistling range has been reduced and that parts cutscene skips are gone. For speedrunning purposes, this makes this version slower than the Wii/WiiU version, but faster than the gamecube version (unless some new stuff is found later on).
Also, the motion controls feel quite weird, as you have to be pressing A/B to use them... Which means you cannot AIM with motion controls before already being throwing or whistling?!? What were they thinking!

@@lilsaiyaman96 that's what I like to hear!!! Hope you enjoy the series as much as I did!
Now what I really hope is that you aren't struggling like I did in the beginning lmao
The fact that the entirety of Distant Spring can be done in one day is mind boggling to me.
Interestingly, distant spring is the easiest area to one-day (except Final Trial, of course)
Its maximum dandori, IMO.

It’s a great time to be a Pikmin fan.
Yea, thos summer's Pikmin's Summer
A glorious time. Long have we waited for the pikmin renaissance
A glorious time. Long have we waited for the pikmin renaissance
We are being fed like Pikmin drinking nectar.
I feel like a purple pikmin
I've always felt that Pikmin 1 had the most melancholy atmosphere, even the happy ending is bittersweet as the Pikmin are so innocent and naive and don't understand Olimar is leaving.
This is what I love about Pikmin. Each run you learn priorities and just get better and better until you enter speedrunner territory. A lot of the "tech" used in this I didnt even know about.
As someone who’s only ever played pikmin 1 casually (and poorly) as a kid, seeing this done is mind boggling to me. Genuinely blew my mind in day 2 when you threw the red pikmin in the water to get them across the gap and extend the bridge
@@stevebusam2911 whats crazy cool too is that these speedrunning tricks seem like extremely doable to a regular player. i feel like pikmin speedrunning is interesting vs regular games for the same reason that i find something like competitive starcraft enjoyable as opposed to FPS games or whatever, since its really not about having the most impressive aim or insane precision/speed, you can really learn from those tricks yourself and implement them to get better if you are so inclined. at the very least, it makes it super understandable and doesnt just make it feel like the player is just magically good at the game.
@@chr1st0pher can confirm, I just did a playthrough yesterday and tried the "red pikmin in the water to extend the bridge" move, its not as easy as it looks lol. A few resets but it was okay. Definitatly doable
@@chr1st0pher Yeah, I love this! As much as it can be really impressive, I dislike glitch and exploit based speedruns for this reason- they're the main reason I can't fully get into speedrunning, but this kind of speedrun is really understandable and followable and actually makes you want to try some of it!
Same, I can't believe I didn't think of it either.
For anyone wonder enemies aren’t killing Pikmin while they are carrying stuff back because the enemies have a spawn radius. If you are outside of the spawn radius, the enemies don’t move or attack or anything. This was probably done to save space on the GameCube, but it wasn’t changed for any later versions of the game, so the enemies just won’t attack Pikmin carrying stuff while your doing something else.
what about my doing? :) You're goofy!
Why do they need to distract the 2 bulbears then at the end? Can they not get far enough away in time?
@@stargobble4342 I'm not a professional at all, but yeah, they probably can't get far enough away. Either that or distracting the Bulbears is easier or faster than running away. (Don't ask me how, I have no clue.)
Imagine if the enemies hated Olimar and ate Pikmins just to be a nuisance to him
My rule is "if it's off camera, it didn't happen" same rule for pikmin 2
Despite being a game pretty much anyone could reasonably 100% in a single IRL day, this game doesn't disappoint. Glad I finally have the chance to play this and 2 with these rereleases, since I never got the chance to play the originals.
Yep. With a comfortable chair and something to eat and drink, you can 100% this game in a single sitting (average time for a new player being 5-8 hours), but it's still a classic!
Pikmin 1 challenges are so fun to watch, cuz in this case the game was literally meant to be broken. It was designed to be played over and over again to see how fast, or with how few deaths, or how creative you can be each run. Some people complain about its length, but this is why it is the way it is. Breaking the game isn’t a bug, it’s a feature. It’s the mission statement.

Ah, neat! Thanks for letting me know
REALLY? Omg tysm
I love you
it’s annoying the game doesn’t state everything you can do in the tutorial or the controls screen. i didnt know how to lie down and thought they removed that action, but my relative was mashing buttons and apparently you click both sticks to do it. ugh
@@abraham3673 honestly, also you only need to click on the right thumb stick to sleep! 👍🏼
I really wanted them to port the pikmin games to the switch along with pikmin 4 so I am very happy to finally play pikmin 1 again. wow 6 days
owning all 4 games on the same system gonna be sweet
@@Louie8888 Yes, I just want luigi's mansion 1 can play on switch too ! Switch is one of the most success console.

I never seen anyone defeat the emperor bulblax deathless so quickly without having the yellows drop their bomb rocks after being called back. That's impressive.
Yeah they took that mechanic out the game in this rerelease for some reason, making the boss even harder deathless
@@GoldK4L This version of the game is based off of the wii version, that's why.
@@cpctheshinymew5381 but in the wii one you could still whistle and the bombs drop. Also throwing pikmin fast was way more difficult and there were still hella bugs from the gamecube game.
@@GoldK4L Not true, they won’t drop the bombs in the wii version.
seeing the onions in the ending made me realize, we actually have all of the pikmin from those onions now. we have pink, gray/black, cyan, purple, and now glow pikmin for green. orange is the only one the we kinda have, you could count bulbmin.
there was probably never a plan to give us those actual pikmin, but it's interesting that we just so happen to have the same colors those showed.
orange is for the pikpik carrots trust me im a scientist
I played this all day yesterday it was incredible! My total time was 29 days and it was preeety rough at times, but that just made it all the more enjoyable. I wish i got into the Pikmin series sooner, cant wait to replay it for a shorter day count.
Update: 4 playthroughs in I was able to get down to 10 days
Glad to have you on the team
Welcome to the pikmin fan club!!! No shame in a 29 day run!! Experiencing it at ur own pace is the best :)
Doing one part a day is a good way to approach the first playthrough
Yeah that’s how I did mine but after your first it’s all about time efficiency and how fast you can complete the game.
Day 15 is my record.
eh i have been playing pikmin since the gamecube and i cleared it in 20 days out of the 30 i believe the lowest i ever got was 12 days these games are so good that their heavily replayable :3
It’s wonderful to see you on the pikmin grind again!
As someone who's only played the beginnings of Pikmin 1 and 3, I am so incredibly happy for all you Pikmin fans. Y'all held onto hope, and boy howdy you're getting it in spades now. Feast well Pikmin fans, feast well.
You should give the serie another try, it's really good and fun ! And thank you for the attention ^^
@@darkaine7344I agree beat 3 deluxe which is amazing with quality of life and not incredibly hard. And then get 4. 1 and 2 are mid to me because of quality of life but they are amazing gameplay wise
@@SigmaGod1217 In my opinion 1 is the best (short game so good replayability for challenge, harder than the others, etc) the second is good (great additions, polishing some gameplay mecanics) with some downside (too long to replay it often imo, purples are cheated, I don't really like caves, no time limit) and the third is very good (pikmin AI as it's best, beautifull textures, very good challenges, and a lot more) but a bit too easy for me. But in the end I love the 3 ot them lol, hope the 4th will be as good as the others (or better would be fine too)
I never get tired of the one day forest of hope runs.
These remasters have me feeling like a kid again bro I am so JOYOUS.
That trick to warp the Bombless yellows off the wall in the water was a thing of beauty.
Does anyone know how he did that? Lmao
@@noether5i think it goes like this:
if you have nothing but bomb yellows in your active party, send one off to use their bomb and whistle it back, the one that just used a bomb is now a normal yellow, so you can switch to it using the ZR button, immediately teleporting the normal yellow into your hand
This entire franchise is a masterpiece of thought processes for gamers whose priority is to have a clean slate (no deaths), besides the goal of collecting the Dolphin’s equipment.
I'm so impressed by your run, I didn't know about some of the skips you can do as well. Great job, Ice cube. I had mostly seen your Pikmin 3 videos but this is just as impressive.
16 minutes in I was already freaking out.
20+ years I've played this game and I didn't know a bunch of these tricks.
Using (half-drowning) reds to build the bridge? (Lmao). Double-teaming a Bulborb with bombs? Throwing a Pikmin out of reach as bait? Breaking the water wall with yellows and switching types to teleport them back? You were blowing my mind multiple times in the span of a few minutes, holy smokes.
If someone had told me there was a 30-part, 0-death, 6-day run, I wouldn't have believed it.
Amazing skill.
Such a freaking absolutely amazing game. Was obsessed as a child and still can't get over the greatness of it.
Also, some real sick skills, brother!
Forest Navel in one day makes me feel things I didn't know I could feel. I first played pikmin 1 when I was 5. I'm 24 now
Man people are really quick on the draw, not giving the world a second before showing their steel in this day in age! Great run by the way, defiantly something to proud of, and by your skill and can see a continuous run not being out of the realm of possibility in the future.
Boss: "Olimar, you've been gone for a week! What the hell where you doing anyways?!"
Olimar: "Oh you know, I was stranded on an alien planet..."
This is pure serotonin. Taught me some really cool tricks, very nice use of the pikmin's properties- Their speed variance, the disband command to get them to activate on targets which "completes" things like pushed bags even if they weren't already touching it... And the bulborb kiting, just to name a few! Very cool, not even finished yet and I'm invested. Nice run!! =3
This was fun to watch! Good work. And thanks for providing insight into this version of the game.
This was amazing nice work!
So glad that 1 and 2 have been re released to get a whole new audience.
I remember watching your speedruns around 2015. Glad to see you’re gonna give Pikmin 4 a spin
I’ve never watched a Pikmin speedrun before, but this was really fun to watch.
and I was proud of my 100% + progg playthrough in 20 days lol. Amazing job with this. its like the chillest speedrun I've ever watched :)
just beat the game on day 24 with 600 pikmin deaths and immediately opened youtube to see this. extremely insane and what an amazing and fascinating run!!
so cool that you can do day 2 in a single day, without even having the blue pikmin yet. this makes me really want to try this. this is definitely the most appealing speedrunning has ever been to me. insanely happy for this pikmin resurgence. probably gonna finish playing through pikmin 1 and then come back and see if i I can pull off any of these feats!
Incredible! I learned a few tricks I didn't know about in this vid, it's quite awesome!
I skipped the pikmin part in the nintendo direct to avoid spoilers for pikmin 4. But then you upload this a day later and I'm like: Pikmin 1 is on the switch?! Pretty cool that all 4 games are playable on the switch now. And congrats to you to get the best possible result within a day after release
Jesus Christ that Yellow nearly ended the 'no death' run.
15:32
The shaking of your pointer represented your anxiety beutifully.
I did a deathless run, but was too cautious and ran out of time for the piggy bank. Was happy enough with what I got though.
Congrats on doing the full thing all the way and in such few days!
Dang you were ON it. You understood the assignment
This game is pretty old so there's lots of exploits the devs weren't aware of :3
this is beautiful. i was 5 when i first played this game and struggled so much with it. i quite literally learned early math through playing pikmin, trying to do the mental math work of how many of each pikmin i needed was a struggle then but made me better at math in the long run. i remember once getting a bit better at the game a couple years later i tried to get the sagitaurus early and failed over and over till i managed to a couple pikmin on the bridge finally.
Even a post commentary would add so much to this video
I remember when Pikmin released. I was an 11 year old kid with just 2 games on my gamecube (Luigi's Mansion and Melee). Having played the hell out of them I desperately craved for a new game, actually waiting for Mario Sunshine to release.
At first I wasn't interested in Pikmin at all. But then for some reason I got 60 bucks into my hands (probably birthday or whatever), went to the nearby hardware store that also sold a few games... And there it was. The only game in the shelf that I didn't own yet and that wasn't licensed crap was Pikmin. So I bought it and oh boy, I did not regret my purchase.
Pikmin content is something I can never get tired of
Great to see you back !
I didn’t know this was possible.
This really blew my mind. I’m in awe.
I actually did my first play through of pikmin 1, i somehow 100%ed it and beat every boss (including the optional ones) in 26 days. But that's nothing compared to this
Same thing as you but 21 days. Last boss was a troll and killed 50 in one move
Yellows have received some explosives training since the Gamecube days, your bomb squad shenanigans made me extremely anxious
I'm amazed how much of this run I could understand just from my knowledge of beating pikmin 1 a single time, maybe I should try this myself!
great run man! learned a lot for my next playthrough
Makes my 10-day record for the GC and Wii versions seem pretty tame in comparison. But I've never really been one for figuring out all the little tricks and such you're doing here.
Omg
I might have to use the strat for the Emperor Bulblax as when I played the original I couldn’t beat it within a single day but you crushed it!
To save time at the start of Forest of Hope, you can spend time during the impact site the day before letting the pikmin grow flowers while planted! Major help for thr start, at least in my 9-day run I'm working on :) Good job though, this is super cool!
I thought I was cool finishing the game in 16 days. This guy is crazy!
wow, i'm used to the wii version and this looks wonderful
AV to HDMI is quite an evolution, let alone the console hardware itself
I find this run to be very motivating. It shows that you don’t need to do any inconsistent bs just to get a 6 day run
The way you blew through the last level. I screamed. 😭
INSANELY well done.

please don't put your life in danger for a video game. we don't want you to die :(
That sounds kinda irresponsible, but hey , do you.
This year has been a huge W for us Nintendo fan. This remaster is proof
I'm in love with this. Will you do a Pikmin 2 run?
Its about time, I have been waiting for these two games to drop on the Switch ever since my Wii U bricked itself while in storage, it fell victim to degrading internal memory. I had no way to play Pikmin 1 & 2 in recent years. Ok back to throwing Pikmin.
The Pikmin news has been so big it got Ice Cube out of their thousand year slumber
Never played Pikmin before but seems like a worthwhile experience
This is called GOOD DANDORI!!! Well done
U move so fast, great to see pikmin speed running
I played the Pikmin 4 demo, and was HOOKED on it after a bit. Been a big fan of this game ever since.. so freaking fun..
Girl: Babe come over
Olimar: I can't, I'm stranded on an unknown planet
Girl: My parents aren't home
Olimar:
Can't wait for the pikmin 2 run
gonna be a pretty decent long one, but i missed ice cube. i want more runs :D
My record is 12 days so this is insane.
I think we all squealed in happiness when they announced this and pikmin 2 were coming out
Nice 6 day run dude
I just beat my first pikmin game yesterday and I was so impressed with myself for getting all 30 parts in 30 days, and now I'm sitting here like: "goddamn....." 💀💀💀
This is amazing for someone like me to watch. My second ever playthough took 23 days with over 600 pikmin deaths 😂
My first play through had almost 900 deaths
It’s as shrimple as that. Great run!
Absolutely incredible
Im happy they ported them, but may stick with dolphin due to the excellent multi-player mods for story
Watching this is very soothing!
This is insane optimization. Congratulations
I love that a new generation is using the word “dandori” to immortalize this. Someday I will get a one day FN
Great run as always! But i can't help but notice that the audio is off in a few notes of the music. I did notice it too in playthrough of the switch port, its really weird
they probably didn't work very hard on this. they just wanted it to work on Switch with slightly improved looks i assume?
Especially in the first area and final cutscene, the music sounds off-key compared to when I played it on PC. Maybe it's emulated on the Switch and they have audio stretching enabled or something like that which slightly messes with it?
@@Tom-101 It's definitely a port, as they had to change most of the cutscenes and there is many new engine quirks.
But yeah, Pikmin 1 is the one that feels like it always had spaghetti code and there is a difficulty making the game work on other platforms (At least with audio, Wii Bulbord sounds come to mind)
It's not an excuse, even as a port, they could've fixed the audio
@@Isabeethetransprincess they didn't even make the bloody pikmin sprout faster. which is the most annoying part of the speed run.
I noticed that too, very annoying. I hope they fix it, there's really no excuse for something like this.
Impeccable Dandori
Your Pikmin are smarter than mine
I see this video pop up as soon as I lose 106 Pikmin to the Puffshroom. Oh boy!
I feel you. I was a second away from beating him before suddenly losing like 50 Pikmin from one attack
You're amazing!
Ice cube is the 5 times Pikmin world champ. This year is the first year of this streak
Ice cube monthly chore:
Speedrun at least 1 pikmin game of your choice.
Agreeing with the caption, in both Pikmin 1 and 2 they kept the part where you have to switch your pikmin type in the middle of throwing. It's super annoying and easy to fix.
This guy sure know his way around a Picked Man
Still not sure why they implemented the mixture of motion controls and gamecube controls the way they did...why not just make it optional either way? Still an awesome release and having a lot of fun! Great to see a six day run already
I bet you’re having alot of fun
I was unaware that yellow pikmin had created bomb placement based warp technology
truly the golden age of pikmin
This speedrun is so chill compared to Pikmin 3 speedruns
I know they’ve made changes to the motion controls but i found the switch pointer controls in pikmin 3 and mario galaxy more awkward because of slight drift and desynchronisation so i wonder if the way they made it in these ports was to avoid that, wii remote is still unmatched but maybe this is a better compromise then having to reset the cursor with a button all the time
They physically can't beat Wii, the Wii bar essentially acted as an automatic near constant reset button
The pointer controls for games on switch are emulating a pointer via gyro if I'm not mistaken, so they're never going to feel quite right, unfortunately.
Hey hey welcome back to youtube. Did they fix the exploit with ship part cutscene skip by spamming ship? I kinda like that if they did, cause it was annoying to hit it everytime.
Nice longplay in Pikimin 1 for Nintendo Switch.
