Wow. Sure wish you were in my area. THIS!!!! THIS is the fence I need!! I've been scouting out hardware/fence websites looking for this type of fence. Closest I come to is an 8" panel prebuilt at Menard's (currently on sale). What you're doing here is TOP SHELF. Custom built all the way. And that gate is fantastic. Thank you for this super-helpful video. I'll have to watch a few times, maybe find some locals to build this for me, or try it myself. Thanks again! 👍
depth tends to be between 3' and 4' but it depends on where you live and where your frostline is. 4' usually keeps posts from heaving/moving around due to frost, but check your area for the depth of the frost line.
Look pretty nice trimmed out that way The only thing I would say of course is just my taste is I don't know about the gate to me it would look better if it would have been more opened with the lattice but hey whatever customer wants right longs are happy with it and you're happy to get paid That's all it's truly matters
What kind of wood was used for this fence? I’m looking to do something similar being prices are outrageous right now for buying 6x8 panels of white/red cedar this might be my next best option. Also had a question about expansion. Being these weren’t tongue and groove. How much shrinkage will happen between the slats?
I've been using one pretty much like this one just for the wheels. It hasn't died yet and I haven't piggybacked it www.menards.com/main/tools/air-compressors/performax-reg-8-gallon-150-psi-portable-electric-horizontal-air-compressor/300811/p-1444423541383-c-12910.htm?tid=-324960127941342046&ipos=2
I'm not a big user of brackets and have seen toe-nails and screws last a good long time, but I think you could do it that way. By far the best and strongest method of attachment is to create a notch. That will hold forever and works very well, it just takes longer
@@metaspencer awesome thanks Spencer! I agree, notches would be awesome, but I don’t have that kind of time right now. One more question, were those brad nails you used to attach the lattice rails?
Live on a corner lot and need about 720ft of fence on the side facing street..My yard sits high so neighbors can see inside from outside..The fence that we have is still ok and steady but she wants a new taller fence. She wants all the gaps blocked and taller fence 7ft and with beams on top and we also we may add lattice...My question is if it is worth it just to replace the side fence and a little bit in the front without replacing the rest of the fence (neighbors fence)? Will this look good or is it better just to save more money and replace the whole thing around house?? The rest of fence around house is nice and steady but if we replace street fence it will be nicer and taller compared to the rest of the fence.
When people ask me this question I tend to try to save any fence that is solid and still working, blending the design of the new fence in with the old. That can't always be done but when a fence can be saved it saves money, time, resources, and all of that. Of course, if the existing fence is one you just can't stand it's gotta go. Keep in mind that you can always build the new section first then decide to replace the old section later ... or save it. Note that local ordinances may limit the height and style of your fence so look that up before you build
Yeah, I know what you mean: it tends to degrade over time unless you make it yourself out of stiffer/thicker stock. With that said, it works okay and is prevalent. Thanks for checking it out, man
Watching a carpenter do great workmanship is such a true joy.
Nice of you to say! It's always nice to get the job done
NICE WORK 🙌🏾🙌🏾🔥🔥🔥
Now that's a beautiful fence. The custom brag plate is a nice touch
Brag plate! I'll have to use that term ;)
The neighbor has an impressive stack of firewood. Nice looking, sturdy fence.
yeah, I like that neighbor's setup! :)
The best feeling when you finish it, get paid and look for the next one! I started a bathroom remodel this week. Too hot for outside work here!
Well said. Good luck with that bathroom job ... I'm sure it'll turn out great!
Absolutely good
Great workmanship as always Spencer , fantastic job 👍🏻
Thanks buddy
Wicked nice job!! Well done! 🌿🌿🌿🌿

Spend some quality time planning, find good materials, and you can do it! Thanks for the compliments ... it was definitely a fun one to build
Great video, in the middle of redoing my back yard fence. Love the way the gate was made. Gives me a new idea!
It'll turn out great. Thanks for checking this one out
Your channel is one of my new favorite shows to watch! lol Tune in next week! great work
Big thanks! Gotta get that bus out for ya though ... soon!
That's a very nice fence!
thanks for checking it out!
Real nice. You are a pro sir!
Big thanks!
WOW that is super gorgeous! Nice job!!!!
Big thanks! it was a fun one
Screwing your tag on the fence at the end is a great idea!
Thanks man :)
Great video! Awesome work as always!
Thanks for checking it out ... and for the encouragement!
Gorgeous work. If you don't mind my asking, how deep should those post holes be dug? Only fence I've ever built before is barbed wire

Nice work, bruv
thanks for checking it out, man
AWESOME looking fence! Great job Spencer!!!
Big thanks! The folks across the street from this fence asked me to build one for them in the spring, so it worked out okay :)
Beautiful fence build. Might have to use that design on mine when I get to that point. And love the name plate!
Thanks for checking it out!
Absolutely love that fence! The foot trowel came in handy again!
haha ... shoe gets a little heavier with concrete each time
what a beautiful and robust fence.
thanks much
God, that fence is gorgeous!
Big thanks! It was a fun one
That was amazing! Nice fence work!!
Big thanks!
That fence turned out great!
Thanks mate
You made it look so easy.🔥🔥
Thanks for checking it out!
Thank you!!

Fair enough! The minute I finished that gate I wondered if it would look too "heavy" -- so I see what you mean. Take care man!

Yeah prices are horrible, but cedar is the best. The posts here are pressure treated pine; the fence boards (pickets) are cedar
Great workmanship, if you was in the uk I would have you do my project
Thanks for checking it out! I haven't been over there in a while ... great country
Great job man! 🤯
Appreciate it!
What compressor did you use? Excelent job!!!!
Great fence, not criticizing at all, but I wouldve added a kicker board on the bottom.
I see your point about that board ... it would add some good stiffening and structure
Won't the 2x4s on top sag eventually or does the lattice give enough support?
That's always a possibility ... good to keep them varnished and installed with a bit of tilt to let that water run off
Do you ever use brackets for attaching the 2x4's? Are you afraid the toe-screwing will eventually rot out?
I'm not a big user of brackets and have seen toe-nails and screws last a good long time, but I think you could do it that way. By far the best and strongest method of attachment is to create a notch. That will hold forever and works very well, it just takes longer

@@DonnyRam The next gauge up: finish nails. I find brad nails are a bit thin for the long haul
Good work👨🔧
Thank you! Cheers! It was a fun project
Nice Job!
Thanks buddy
I wouldn’t rely on that 4’ level anymore after using it to pack the concrete
think it's off now? I'll have go test it against my framing level and check it out
Very nice work. How long did it take ?
Thanks! This one was supposed to be a week but ended up being two ...
Great job
I'm building another like this when the ground thaws ...
Well done
Thanks

Nice video
Thanks buddy!
Why do you wear a rucksack while digging fence post holes?
That's actually my ice-water camelbak ... it was a HOT week here in the Midwest, so I was guzzling ice water just to survive! :)
@@metaspencer :)
Wat is that tool that your turning into the hole
At what point in the video?
Maybe you're talking about the hand auger? it works well if you don't have rocks or roots: amzn.to/2JvuHh4
How much was this bid at?
I don’t recall but I can tell ya materials for one like this are up over $15/foot around here
BUS BUS BUS. When are you going to get back to the bus.
Bus bus bus! Next week actually! So a video coming sooooon
lol the level concrete packer
high tech! haha
👍👍👍👌♥️
big thanks!
Fence looks good. Not a fan of the lattice
