Breaking news! There are RV hookups by the night track! Also the footage of the Night Track/Pit bike track is from right before the crew made some changes. My feedback of the track is from right after they made the changes. I'll get some new footage of the changes uploaded as a separate video soon. Ride safe everyone!
I lived in La Porte in the 70's and had a buddy that raced at the time. I used to go to Rio Bravo with him and help out. Loved watching the Maico's and Huskey's back in the day.
I live close to Victoria and have been wanting to visit Rio Bravo for some time now. Thank you for the tour. Maybe I will see you there one of these weekends.
I used to ride Rio Bravo as a kid, back when Al still owned it 20 or so years ago, and man it was rough. It was a good track to practice on though to get good in rough, dry conditions. Nice to see that it's been resurrected and still going strong. It should be considered a national treasure. Would love to see a review of Ultimate MX when you get a chance. I want to get back into it and that's the closest track to me.
@@alexdombi-weridetwo Looking forward to it. Is Highlands and Splendora/San Jac Cycle Park still around? Those places were the place to be in the early and mid 00's! SoBe series, stars over TX etc...
Splendora closed to the public but still does organized events occasionally. Highlands also closed but I believe the property was purchased- I haven't heard of the new intentions though. I'm not familiar with San Jac Cycle Park but I'll look in to it. 😉
@@alexdombi-weridetwo Well, that's disappointing to hear. San Jac Cycle Park was the actual name for Splendora MX at one time. It was probably one of the better tracks in the area. Hopefully some of these great old tracks will return to their former glory. I pass by 3 Palms all the time and man that place has grown! Great to see it still kickin'.
I dad would take me and my brother to Rio bravo to watch races in the 70s I'm 60 years old my brother is 67 we grew up in the north shore area.good times.
Thanks for the video I am back on a dirt bike after years off and am feeling bit intimidated. I'm looking for a safe place to practice and improve my skills I also want to introduce my 6yo son to the sport. Your review is exactly what I need to remove some of the intimation I am feeling and get over there It looks like an amazing place. 🤘
Thank you for the kind words! That is exactly the intent of my channel. Rio is an excellent place to get started again, and it is my son's favorite place to ride around Houston.
No, sorry for the confusion- this video has footage from right before AND right after the direction change. I'll make a comment and pin it to the top explaining that.
@@jabierabarca7842 I've seen some enduro bikes out there but it's definitely more geared towards race bikes. The tracks are all tame enough that you can roll every jump safely.
Nice! I need to make it out to Florida again to ride and film there. I spent a lot of time at Pax, 74, Mesa, Miami MX, FTT, Bartow, Lazy Springs, and what is now MotoBros.

@@alexdombi-weridetwo yeah I saw that, there was a lot of comments and likes on it. Shit I even commented on it 😂 the real problem is, the motocross community in south Texas is non existent. Even in it’s prime this last time around when it was open, I don’t think they were getting enough riders to be profitable
@@Asaphunnna That is the reason I started the Houston Motocross Group ride days- I want to build back that community and get more people in large groups supporting tracks. Also it's a shame when people say they want more options for tracks but then won't ride a track because it's too dry. We need to stick together and help grow the sport!
@@alexdombi-weridetwo you said it best boss! Specifically another issue cycle ranch had; they hired some dude that turned the track into a intermediate track (not to say it wasn’t tough already for beginners) Most of the riders in south Texas and San Antonio are vets and beginners. So it definitely deterred away the few people that were already riding there. But a motocross community like you have done would be good for San Antonio as well. Most of them just head to Murphy’s either way
I'm 64. I raced at Rio regularly throughout the mid seventies and into the eighties. Sadly, the track/tracks you see now are not representative of the old historical track at all. I've seen some of the greats ride there. Memories burned into my brain. Of course I don't ride anymore, but it's clear the soul of Rio is dead.

Don't see too many Maicos these days. I don't think I've ever seen one ridden at a track, just museums and bike shows

My pleasure! An update video is coming soon showing the new layout for the Night Track. If you ever see my truck feel free to stop by and say Hi!

I see a few parts of the old track from the 70's. Track area is a lot bigger and neater now. Looks like fun.
I've been told a lot of the key turns from the 70s are still there. It's a fun layout for sure.
