- The Call of Duty Community on The PS3 is still very active! From COD 3 to Black Ops 3, you're bound to find other players still carrying the legacy of these games.
Despite the PS3's old age, COD games are still played in the 1000s. Just like how recently, the XBOX community has been revived.
In today's video, i will showing you which is the most active in 2023. I performed two tests, one during a random Tuesday night and one on the following weekend to get an idea on player activity.

I think Call of Duty hit its peak in the PS3-360 era. No monthly subscription for online play, no microtransactions, and most new releases of the era actually felt like they brought something new and interesting to the table, instead of just being the next buggy $70 COD cashgrab
It's been a LONG time since a COD Game had hyped that came close to MW2 or Black Ops 1.
I mean people were complainging that the games were a copy paste back then too. Especially mw3

Other Call of Duty games are affected by the post-2018 PSN account creation. Black Ops 1 and Modern Warfare 2 never save online progress and Modern Warfare 3 refuses to connect.

my psn account stopped saving stats on black ops 1 when i got to level 17 but at least mw3 works fine

@@gjedhtdv8341You can definitely buy a aged account, I recently just bought the PSN “Tracked” luckily it has progress on BO1, MW2 and MW3 so I have absolutely no issue playing any of these games in 2023. And there all active still in Mainly TDM, FFA and Domination game modes.
Very happy to been informed on these cod games as i wanted to go back and platinum these cod games because i never had any other forms on ps3, only exceptions was advance and ghost from 360 when i was younger though, and knowing some of the player counts on these games makes me needing a dedicated group of folks to help grind these out.
Black ops 2 is off my list as its platinum is now impossible due to their ranked mode offline now, which i need 5 rounds played to get it.
Besides that, unless there is a special work around without hacking, i think platinum on all of these is more than likely possible.
Best time to play is on weekends for higher player base
Also a lot easier to find modes outside TDM as well!

Its best to remove or disable dlc when playing any of the cods
On PS3 it doesn't let me play it says to download dlc but I cant

Well the nostalgia caught up with me. I bought a Xbox Series S for old COD and exclusives while Im a huge PS fan.
But still PS will be my main platform. Dont forget Playstation 🤝🏻Xbox. Now that I also got an Xbox I have to admit both are pretty cool in their own way.😄😁
I was gonna buy a ps3 to try to repopulate the older cods, but the post 2018 account creation fail save killed it for me. There’s no way these games can repopulate with this issue….

15th prestige on blk ops 1 back in the day was legendary status , no cod has felt same since, i play ps3 now for nostalgia

Your best bets to enjoy older cods would be
(CoD 4, CoD WaW, CoD Bo1, CoD Mw3, & CoD Ghosts) you might run into a modder/hacker in CoD ghosts tho but it is not as frequent as older CoD titles so its still safe.

I had a 360 growing up and never figured out how to go online, 2 months ago I bought a brand new ps3 and a sealed copy of mw2 to see what I missed out on, even though it deranks me Everytime I log off, it is my new favorite call of duty of all time
Yeah unfortunately mw2 and bo1 always reset your rank the moment you log out. Cod 3, 4, waw, classic, BO2 with the workaround, Ghosts and AW work just fine though

Unless you get a psn account that was played on or modded it should fix that issue

i cant play any cod modern warfare for some reasons
mw1:when i search for a lobby it keeps sayin dowloading game settings forever
mw2:i cant find any match
mw3:when i enter the online its says free downloadble content go to store and its empty

Cod ghosts just unlinks the cod account u can put it back, bo1 doesnt save, and bo2 crashes on launch but there IS a fix, mw2 resets stats aswell and mw3 cant play multiplayer

Ranking in popularity from my experience so far on Xbox
Mw3/Bo1 -70k+ players
Mw2- unknown but still 3-8 seconds to find a match
Waw/cod4/bo2- upto 6k people about 1.3-2k in tdm and Dom(+ war in waw)
Only one I’d say isn’t working at all even US times (I’m uk but odd hours) is Bo3 it’s super super dead.
Extras;
Aw is hit and miss
Ghost hit and miss
Cod2 hit and miss
^All of which work more than Bo3 but just as and when isn’t totally consistent.

@@aneekes. from my experience the SS&SX run them consistently, the one x has a little delay here and there, seems more prone to crash… this is probably because they run a emulator to be backwards comp, but all in all I don’t think grabbing a xb360 is worth it if you’ve a new gen xbox. With a one however the experience is so up and down, it maybe worth considering if you really wanted a smoother more consistent experience, but again not a must have.

I didn't manage to get a lobby at all on Black Ops 3 in the UK. Completely dead.

Currently playing Black Ops (PS3)*. Had a hard time finding this game again.
i have played bo3 on the 360 and ps3 and there is no recoil whatsoever
1. The mode is called Extinction not Extraction xD
2. You forgot to mention spec ops on MW2 and MW3 (MW3 had a survival mode which is probably as populated as WaW zombies)

Its definitely black ops 1. Im from the UK so i mainly match up against america.
Finding a game in bo1 is much much faster than any other old cod. Especially kino zombies compared to any other gane

bro do you need an Xbox Live Gold to play multiplayer or only Xbox Live? how much is the Gold tho? I love PS3 so much but ya know, just asking?
For the 360 you will need Xbox Live Gold (the only option I believe) in order to play online. Last time I checked it was $10 USD!

COD Ghosts regular here. I just wanted to note that the PS3 firmware update that introduced the QR code, absolutely BUTCHERED our playerbase. We peaked over 1000 before that update, and have been hovering around 300 ever since. TDM runs daily 24/7, but other modes are usually only touched by the clans and competitive players. Its easy to get in if you know anyone from any if the main clans or know the schedule, but otherwise the other modes are dead.
Does plebeius-1 still play tdm there? I remember he had like 140 million score on tdm
Agreed, on Ghosts every night in Florida around 11 pm and there is usually about 300 on.

I have an issue connecting on BO2. Game freezes every time I try to connect.
Try this:
When you're at the XMB, do not sign into PSN but load Black Ops 2.
Go into local match, load any level and mode. Once it starts, back out to the main MP screen then select online and log in.
It's annoying to do each time, but aparently is a common fix. Hope this helps

I get this sometimes, try connecting your ps3 to the internet with a ethernet cable in the network settings on the xmb, then see if it fixes it.
I can't remember exactly if that's all I had to, but it helped.

Bom post-2017 PSN you need play with bots offline and start session, then you can play online

Does it freeze when you start the game? It did that to me and I found removing my save data helped.

Black ops 2 is full of hackers the rest not so much
I dont even play online on the ps3 anymore on the ps3. Most online games are ghost towns. This is why multiplayer games need a dedicated offline bot mode.
You should give the games another go
They're usually pretty packed on weekends

Thankfully BO2 has a workaround (and it saves stats)

Idk if I'm the only one but Black Ops 2 takes barely a few seconds to find matches

@MAWK3 The issue I'm having on my ps3 is once I chose of the specialist characters to try and pass training mode my game always freeze and I have yet found a way how to solve this problem
@Finschalen Try going into your game data on the PS3 XMB and deleting Black Ops 3 then trying the game again.
It should ask to re-download an update or install the game, but this might help.

From some to countless everything is possible. I've been upleveled by modders in WaW and Ghosts so it ruined my gameplay experience. And I've been downleveled in MW... A lot of assholes outhere nowadays.

Too many cheaters. You can play just about any COD game on any day. But you're going to run into some blatantly obvious cheating every thirty minutes. Just play Battlefield 4.
