Taking the MSF's DirtBike class at the Honda Rider Education Center in Alpharetta, GA with my subscribers! I was the shortest one in class and really wanted to get practice in on their tall dirt bike, the Honda CRF230F. If I can get experience on tall dirt bikes, I think that'll help me get ahead to learn the ultimate... tall adventure bikes! If I can ride those... I think I can ride anything!

My biggest struggle with riding is that at nearly 6'3". I hate riding a bike I feel cramped up on. I've never been a fan of Honda sportbikes for that very reason.

Get a DR650 and also learn how to do wheelies! For off road adventure riding, picking up the front end is an essential skill. Keep going! You're doing great!

Good job, Doodle! As a short rider, I have always found the mount/dismount to be the most difficult part of riding a taller bike. I think you’re doing great, getting better and better, and I am looking forward to footage of your riding experience with Jocelyn Snow, who I think is absolutely awesome.

When I was about 5' 6" I had a dirtbike with a 34" tall seat. I would start the bike on the kickstand, slide back down to that side, hooking the back of my right knee on the seat, put it in gear, let out the clutch while simultaneously kicking up the stand and seating myself properly. The way I get up on my tall ADV is I mount up like I mount a horse... stirrup first (well for a bike on the peg) of course many times I step up onto the bike on the high side or the opposite and then put the kickstand up. Here's a good practice to get really familiar with a tall bike do the bike balance where the bike is balanced and then walk around the bike just holding different points on the bike. You can also try mounting the bike from the front tire to the seat or even from the rear tire to the seat. It's a great way to get really familiar with your bike. Another great job Doodle... 🥳

Heavy riders have a big advantage because of the sink the suspension gives, if you have short inseam(28") AND light weight(133lbs) It won't give you any sink at all(I tried straddling off-road-bike owned by 300 lbs guy.).

I think you will find the larger ADV bikes, such as the R1250 GS, to be much easier to ride than you think. In fact, you may find it is also easier to get on and off of than the dirt bike. The latter has soft suspension, but stands very tall when unloaded. The throttle-while-braking thing is very important. It is helpful to develop the habit of consciously closing the throttle (rolling it fully forward) when coming into corners. You may need to adjust the brake lever closer to the bar so it is easier to avoid rotating the throttle with the webbing between your thumb and fore finger. Try fully closing the throttle without braking to get an idea of how fast the bike scrubs off speed, especially in turns.

My friends say I'm built like a dachshund. 😢 Its pretty frustrating as I've not found many bikes I can even put my toes down on. I have like a 26 inch inseam. So far the closest I come to flat footing is on a Honda Rebel and I'm not really into cruisers. I tried a triumph street twin and my toes just barely touch the ground. Really need to find an old beater bike so I can practice this whole one foot down thing. I'm very confident I can learn just frustrated I can't just jump into getting an ADV bike or sport.

You’ll get used to it. Tall and light should be no real issue. Then you need to try the KTM 790/890 R! That bike is SO MUCH fun, even for me who is 1.71m with 30” jeans! ;-)

I think I’m your height at 5’6” but my legs are short. I wanna try dirt now. I took up taekwando though and since may I pulled a hamstring and tore something in my calf I can’t pronounce.
I’m afraid of muscling a tall bike right now. I’m building a shop though this fall and after I clear out my inventory of barn bikes I’m going to buy a tall bike. Drz probably but I want build a old triumph like delboys legend. That bike turned out nice.

Doodle I ALMOST got a motorcycle. Looked like some sports bike but sadly my family were in a rush to come back from a friends bday party at 2am plus it was raining earlier and the bike was wet. If I was alone I’d take a seat on it. Maybe someday…

Hey, Doodle - if you're going through all the MSF classes, does this mean that you'll be taking the BRC Scooter one as well?

      @@DoodleOnAMotorcycle Well, you have now.
I was surprised, but also intrigued that the MSF had a special course for scooters.
It might make for some interesting content.
