Yeah, one thing I’ve learned is don’t go too far out fast, go at a comfortable pace, I never thought to do this, and the result was going from 18:20 to 17:32 within the span of one race.
That’s not the case for everyone. Every time I’ve PRed I’ve gone out probably too fast (one time running the first mile faster than my 1 mile PR) so it’s different for everyone. I’m mentally not as tough throughout the race so I can’t pick it up so if I go out hard i know I’m making up for not being able to really pick it up by going out hard
In theory, yes, but then again, I would only see him at the start line. He would be out of sight within 15-20 seconds and I would only see him at the finish 10 minutes later, if I'm lucky.

@@scmikirtoumov8676 of course. The point is that becoming the best runner isn't as easy 😂 as Jakob makes it sound in the video. It takes a lot of hard work. Hard work that most people don't want to do.

It's actually the Ingebrigtsen family mantra. They're all about staying as close to the line of what the body can endure over time, rather than overdoing it - risking injury or overtraining. With time that line has naturally been pushed forward. Step by Step. They run a hard schedule, keeping in mind stepping stones and goals.
I should have had this instruction in mid 70s. My coach always wanted me to stay with pack ( mile mostly) and when I did not only did I not win around 4:46 to 4:55 , but I seemed to not to improve. FinallyI front runned in district meet with a 4:24. I was even less exhausted than before. I qualified for regionals and ran 4:20 and then state (6th place) in 4:17. After that I went in military. I hated the exexhaustion, the pressure, and the constant tug of war with coach. Now I'm 66 and started again in hopes of doing a mile in 8 minutes with no coach except for you tube.
I am not trying to be better than everyone else when I do 5ks just be better than myself. My parkrun PB went from around 24min to 21.5min, but I really want to just get faster and break the 20min. Seem to be stuck at around 22 min mark. Will try the multiple 400m interval training to see if that helps
I am 45 years old runner. I run my PB (20.44) when I was 40 years old. Since then my "wall" was 21.15 before 2 years. This year I will try to run a new PB focusing on my weekly training like this: 1 run aerobic at pace 5.40-5.55 for 10-15km. 2 run interval 4X800m (pace 4.10) with 400m rest (pace 5.50). 3. 1 tempo run for 8km (4.40- 4.50 pace). I hope till may to be in shape to beat my PB. Good luck at your training, mate!
A 5K is surprisingly aerobic. You can get much faster times by increasing your the length of your long run and weekly mileage. I'm stuck at the 18.5 minute barrier myself because I don't enjoy the fast 400 repeats and 800's alone (I need to find running partners). When you run on your own it is very hard to push yourself through the last reps. It really helps to have a partner. I watched the video below and it gave me some new hope for the average park runner. ua-cam.com/video/Q1xd3GjEuuc/v-deo.html Good Luck!
