As a former owner of an old diesel car, I find turning the ignition and waiting for the glow plug light to go out, then turning it off and doing it again before cranking the engine makes it start a bit easier.
You beat me to it! No need to turn off, just turn to position 1, wait for glow plug light to go out, then turn to position 2 and engage the starter motor...and bingo.
@@benzinapaul7416 I've used some really knackered cars that won't start unless the glow plugs are heated twice before it'll start, hence my suggestion of turning it off and doing it a second time. Probably not really necessary in Simon's case though.
Simon, when you said “I’d like to know the meat content of this”, I’m not sure you would be happy with the answer! Keep them coming mate, you’re doing a good job.
The rib part appeared in my local chippy about 40 years ago. They were made by a company called Dalloon. You could buy them in Bejams in a 4 pack for a quid. I remember the meat content was absolutely woeful.
I don't know about meat content but this excerpt from an article from an American magazine made me have second thoughts about buying one ! "McDonald's admits that, in spite of its name, the sandwich is not made from rib meat. How this doesn't fall under false advertising and labeling I'm not sure, but somehow, they get away with it. Hi Simon! I had one on Friday. It was nothing like I remember. It didn't have gherkins in the 90's. I remember it being much nicer back in the old days.
Worked in McDonald’s throughout 6th form and uni - they bought the McRib back for a bit in 2015. Looked completely different though, it was drenched in the sauce. So you’d cook the patty, and put it in the heated container covered in sauce. Think it made it look a little bit better 😂
In the early 2000's they were my go to meal at Macca's, i was gutted when they took them off the menu. When they brought them back in 2015 i was over the moon until i tried 1, they were horrible compared to the originals. I hope they are good this time around! Will find out when i try one in a bit lol
For the same price of that McDonald's meal, I can buy a kilo of salmon from our local supermarket in Finland, which will feed a family of four. The last thing McDonald's is, is cheap.
That looks NOTHING like the posters everywhere! They advertise it SMOTHERED in sauce. I honestly thought it was a dark black/ purple barbecued meat thing. 😮
It's the *Wedges* I want bringing back! They sold them for like 1 month here and 1 month there, maybe twice in my lifetime and they are the best thing they ever sold. Everyone bought them so it's bizarre how they didn't keep serving them.
Back in the 80's these were fantastic. The meat was condensed and good to bite/chew. The sauce was thick and flavoursome. The bun was topped with a granular sweetcorn type stuff. All tasty and cheap to buy.
If the engine's particularly old and knackered, I like to warm the plugs up twice before cranking it. It hurts me when I see people just going straight in and trying to start it!
I used to have this occasionally back in the 90s - it was okay, I wonder if it's the same? McDonald's really needs to bring back the Breakfast tray meal they used to do; was a staple for me working Saturday morning overtime back in the day.
I live in Portugal, McDonalds here sells soup. Including the national dish Caldo Verde (Kale soup). I must admit a visit to McDonalds is a guilty pleasure whenever I'm over visiting family in the UK. 😂
Fantastic content, Simon. What is your car, anyway? I drive in a Seat Toledo that was made in 1999, which I bought in 2007 for £1800. It's still driving really nicely.
I can only afford an old car too Si . The stress of it takes years off your life . When the guy at the window said it tasted like a Rustlers burger , my stomach turned. must admit it looked fairly repulsive for the price but hey ho, might appeal to someone ?
Wow a while since I had one of those. Seem to remember the BBQ sauce being a lot more plentiful almost to the point it got very sickly very quickly. Will need to tickly my tastebuds with one of these to take me back to my youth.
Just ate one myself, it still tastes good but the pork patty tasted a bit different to how I remember it, it didn't have the same chargrilled taste. The sauce is lovely though. I paid £7.29 for the large meal option, and I'm still hungry so it's not very good value. I seem to remember it costing about £2.50 when it was last on the menu about 10 years ago.
Loads of criticism below of McDonalds meat but in reality before they arrived on our shores you couldn`t get a decent burger anywhere bar a Wimpeys gristle burger. Nobody gives them credit for changing the face of fast food for the better which our faster paced lives depend on & for ushering-in other fast food options if you want something other than McDonalds. I had a McRib some years ago & enjoyed it, so I`ll make an effort to have another soon. Thanks for the review Simon.
You might need a new set of glow plugs in your car. I changed mine to make starting easier in the old banger. Nice to see you drive past my old house as well. 👍
I used to work at McDonald's during the 90s as a student and we always hated the McRib as we lost a grill space dedicated to pork which meant the restaurant shutdown was longer has both grills had to be left on until close
I remember these being about when I was at uni in 2010ish. Tried one then and found it unbelievably salty. I’ll give it a go again. 6.99 for the meal is more reasonable than what they have been charging for other special burgers in recent years.
Haahaa! This made me remember a trip to Germany in the 90:s and they had McRibs there nut not in Sweden, a friend really liked them and ate only McRibs for a weekend and when driving back he farted in the car almost the whole way home! I won't go into details why I remember it! ;)
The thing that is ruining the McRib experience for everyone, is the lack of sauce in my opinion. It really makes it better. I work in McDonald's in the UK and I can confirm the procedure to include the sauce is 7 BBQ streaks accross each bun. Unfortunately nearly no one does this. And this burger without sauce is dissapointing. Nontheless, 1 out of 2 you will get a good one I guess 😂. Its the same problem with wraps... The rest of burgers have sauce guns that give a standard amount of sauce, so problems with sauce dont happen that often
Waited ten years for it to come back, nothing like they used to be way back, I had an absolute stinker, dry AF, first bite… way too salty. Mine looked dead and people were saying the same on X. So gutted… ah well.
Hope they're still doing it come Christmas, never had one. Stuck in a Muslim country atm so doubt will be on the menu anytime soon here. Keep up the good work mate.
My chips were rock solid but the burger was decent, I'd say it was good, not fantastic, just good. Could do with a bit more sauce, and personally I'd like some cheese in there
It’s funny you say it’s like a sausage sandwich as I saw a bloke on Insta earlier making one out of Aldi sausage patties their metro tiger rolls and pickles with onion and BBQ sauce. I personally wouldn’t eat either but the homemade looked way better
