- Опубліковано 21 тра 2024
- I'm finally in the beautiful town of Whitby. I've been recommended so many fish and chip shops to review so I've decided to head down there and try some of Whitby's finest. This includes Magpie Cafe, Trenchers, Hadley's, Silver Street and Abbey Wharf. I wish I could have done more but I couldn't eat anymore Fish and Chips! Let's give it a go!
Trenchers - £12.05
Silver Street - £10.00
Hadley's - £11.40
Abbey Wharf - £13.20
Magpie Cafe - £12.15

My rating is 10/10 for Gary, because not only was it one of his best vlogs, it also shows he's not doing it just for the money, so many others would have split this into 3,4 or 5 vlogs...
Well done, loved it 👏
unlike Mc M
Thanks so much Tel. I don't think that would be fair to those who do not enjoy Fish and Chips so I had to put them all in one. It really means a lot that you think so highly of the video and have a lovely rest of your weekend. As always, a pleasure.
Gary definitely does this because he enjoys it, not just for money/views, love all Gary's videos their brilliant x
You're so right Terry. A very good point you made. I preferred number 1. I absolutely love Haddock, chips and mushy peas. Haddock has to have the skin on . Love it. Now I've got the munchies lol xx😘
agreed Gary does very well informed videos for the best places to eat also been some nice locations , its nice to learn of food places I've never seen or heard of before, plus he's always very down to earth about what he really thinks about the food. 😊
yeah there would be people that would turn something like this into 6 or 7 videos and milk it the best they can but Gary he's not that person , he's as honest as they come.
I'm a 62 yr old Yank and I must say if Gary is any indication, Brits judge a fish and chips joint by it's mushy peas ad much as the fish and chips! To an American, this is the equivalent of judging a BBQ joint by it's potato salad as much as it's brisket or hamburger place by it's onion rings. I realize that not all Brits use the same judging criteria and I love Gary's honest reviews , I just crack up at his personal obsession with mushy peas. Everyone take care and as always Gary, "Lets give it a go!"
Thanks John. I do think the fish is more important than the mushy peas!
Fly over and try some!
I'm a purist,I like only fish and chips ,I can't stand mushy peas and curry sauce euch, spoils it makes it soggy
@@romystumpy1197 Purist, more like a Satanist 🤣🤣 only joking dude, somedays I'm the same, just salt and vinegar is all I need/crave. I do like the odd pot of, peas, gravy or curry sauce on occasion,my kids think I'm boring lol
@@SirHargreeves ha ha the return flight will be fun for the passenger sat next to him🤣💨💩
My wife is training to be a vet in Australia. She said what's it like in Yorkshire, there's loads of jobs in Yorkshire. After I saw this video, I said it's like heaven on earth. I do love watching the sea at Whitby when it's blowing a gale in winter, while I'm cooking my pommy arse off here in Oz.
I’d rather be where you are lol 🇦🇺
@@GaryEats not for Aussie fish and chips though, shockingly bad. head to NZ for proper fish and chis like England.

Far better food available
From a Whitby person, thank you for not just homing in on The Magpie. So many food vloggers really do seem to think it's the only one in town.
For others watching this, who may come to Whitby, should really check out Angel Fisheries
Thanks for the recommendation especially as a local and appreciate your lovely comment
Been in Whitby 23 years and never been in the Magpie!! We go to the Royal fisheries usually. Hadley's isn't bad either.
Anywhere but Hadleys.@@pheart2381
I've been visiting whitby since a child and its always been trenchers for my family! never been in the magpie!
@@pheart2381 Royal fisheries was out goto place for years but we found that everything changed about 2 years ago. We now goto Silver Street Fisheries then walk up to Pannett Park

I want to open a fish and chip restaurant in Barcelona,on Barceloneta beech but I need a backer,,,it would be amazing with xpats and British tourists.there isn't a chippy in Barcelona I no because I lived there.
Nice to see chips that are cooked nicely instead of the barely cooked stuff in most chippies.
I agree Alex excellent chips 🍟
I disagree chippy chips should be a lightly cooked pale yellow not overcooked and burnt !
Looked very nice ,yes please.👏👍⭐️🙏🏼❤️🤩😜
Because they cooked the old way in dripping not oil
Potato type counts too. A sweeter spud will brown quicker.
Pretty much agree with your scoring. One thing that impressed me was that you made it clear that the one you scored lowest was still very good because of the competition in the area. Another very honest review.
Thank you it was still very good 👍
Not only your best video but the best food review I've ever seen on UA-cam by any other vlogger, your reviews are honest as can be, a brilliant concept visiting 5 chipies, heard a lot about Trenches so I thought they would be number one and your video proved it, the rest of the scoring i totally agree with you, a bit disappointed with the Magpie as they used to be the mecca for fish & chips but thats why 62k watch your vlogs for honest reviews, being retired I've watched quite a lot on the box this week mainly due the weather but I can honestly say this is the best viewing I've had in the last month or so, carry on with the great work Gary.
That’s a lovely comment and really appreciated, it makes the journey worthwhile thank you Harold 👍

Probably last Saturday at my mate's house. I haven't actually seen the video, but I'll check it out.
We went to a Goth/alt 80s/new wave night in Newcastle last year, and this was played. Sounded class on a decent system. 🔥
Cooked in beef tallow/dripping gives them next level flavour and crispiness. Lovely.
Fully agree 💯Frank brilliant flavours
Just how my mum used to do em 👍👌
Chips are always better in Irish beef dripping 😋
Fantastic Gary. The best video you’ve ever done imo. Loved every single second of it! Me and the wife have a soft spot for Whitby so this was very nostalgic. Would love to see more similar videos in the future if your schedule permits.
Very kind Matty I will be doing more of this type of video in the future 👍
Spectacular seascape and great choice of fish & chips shops in Whitby. Five reviews in one video, that is a real tour de force. Congratulations, Gary!
Very kind thank you 🙏
You are unstoppable Gary. I've had a really crazy work week and have enjoyed having your videos on in the background, 100x better than the doom and gloom on the radio. Thank you.

Oh, right on the mark. As soon as you opened the box from Trenchers I knew that was my kind of fish and chips. The way the batter was crispy and beautiful was so appealing. My compliments to Trenchers.
I agree Jeff very good at Trenchers
We always go to Trencher’s when we go to Whitby
Yes they were the best.
I love Trenchers and have always had gorgeous crispy batter like Gary had .. usually Magpie is the same so l think he was unlucky.
A bit of radio 4 especially in the rush hour calms the mood and educates I've found . And if I get university challenge. Might stand a chance!
Finally an eating review channel with no nonsense and straight to the point.
Love your channel Gary! You just got yourself another subscriber! Greetings from Northern Ireland!
Thank you very much William, really appreciate you subscribing, watching and commenting, I’ll be over to see you in the not too distant future 👍
Glad you had a great time. The moon and sixpence is a lovely place to stay not cheap but fab .
Brilliant time in a lovely town
I just yelled across the house "There is a new Gary video" to my wife😊. Thank you Gary....I always give you a thumbs up and comment. We always watch British mysteries and love how Inspector Lewis always gets fish and chips in newspapers in the show Inspector Morse😀 Michael from Wash DC 🇬🇧
Michael what’s the wife’s name please include as would love to say hello as appreciate you both supporting the channel 👍🇺🇸🇺🇸
Michael and Robin ...omg so the fish and chips here in DC are SO small!! Just a fraction of the size of fish and chips you got in your last video..... We got fish and chips in Scotland last summer and it was giant and awesome!!
What is so special about mushy peas I have never tasted them and don’t plan to. Ugh.We North Americans s don’t eat them. Bring on the fish and chips, please!
Royal Fisheries every time for me. Known as Fusco's by locals. Thanks for travelling so far on your food journey Gary, much appreciated by your fans.
Very kind thank you
Yes, my wife is Whitby born and bred and Fusco's is the one for her. great watch Gary.
Great video Gary we love Whitby can’t remember name of one we go to lol getting old
Used to be my favourite, but I thought that had gone off the boil lately.
That’s where we go when we in Whitby had them 3 weeks ago were lovely
Fantastic vlog Gary, cheers 😊Whitby and that coastline is wonderful

Hi Gary great video. Fish and chips lookes great. Wish I could eat fish but I have an intolerance to fish😩 looking forward to your videos thank you Gary 👍👍👍
Thanks so much Helen
Trenchers looked incredible, will be trying it next time we're in Whitby
Trenchers is my go-to lunchtime restaurant whenever I'm in Whitby. Trenchers also has a branch in Whitley Bay, in the refurbished Spanish City building. It's a very classy joint, and each time I've been there (perhaps 7 or 8 times in the past four years) the service and the quality of the F&C dinners have been excellent.
Hello Gary, I love your show, your reviews are brilliant with the attention to detail. I also think this format of reviewing the best chip shops in a particular area in one video is a great idea. I am hoping you continue this trend!
That’s very kind thank you, it makes all the hard work worthwhile
Top video again gary came here to say how amazing you and your videos are and to do 5 fish and chips in one video is outstanding. I did not think you could get any beter i love your cheap v expensive ones but this was up there. Keep up the excellent work
Really kind and appreciated Daniel thank you 🙏
Whitby is a lovely place. Bound to find some lovely fish and chips there. I absolutely adore fish and chips. Gary once again Your the Man. This video has made my day yet again.
I fully agree beautiful and thank you so much
Over priced !
You'll also find some of the worst fish and chips imaginable in Whitby. They prey on tourists who don't know any better.
Great vid Gary, love the fact that you have compiled all the chip shops on one shoot it’s great for us to make our mind up with what’s on offer in the town thanks buddy.
Thank you for watching and commenting that’s really important to make it worthwhile 👍
Can’t argue with your result because I have only done Trenchers and the Magpie. I liked both, just done differently. I never have mushy peas, I can’t stand them but I always have tartare sauce with my fish and chips with a squeeze of lemon.
There’s nothing better than some excellently cooked fish and chips. A real morale booster.
👍
Thank you very kind 👍
One of your best reviews so far Gary, very fairly done. What a Journey for you ! but glad you enjoyed the visit. You would have seen a notable difference at a weekend - not the best place to be ! As you stayed over I hope you got the chance to enjoy some excellent Yorkshire beer! Glad you liked my (and many others) recommendation for Trenchers. Always the best and certainly the best presented. No surprise with the Magpie, I have several relatives and friends who have been very disappointed with the take away. Your marks and league table were spot on . One overwhelming observation - fish and chips is no longer a cheap meal !! 👍👍
I had a great time thank you and it’s a lot cheaper than London that’s for sure ☝️
On a visit to Whitby next week! Thanks Gary, couldn't have timed it better!
Have a great time
Well worth the trip to get some Fish & Chips, Whitby has some lovely scenery well the north in general!!
I fully agree Trevor amazing
Beautiful Whitby and five meals of fish and chips, the real winner is you Gary! Excellent video as always, thank you.
Keith you are completely right 👍👍👍😊😊😊
This was up there with gone with the wind, what a saga and very entertaining .The most pertinent point you established was the good quality all round with only minor discrepancies between products ,well done and once again I gave it a go.
Thank you Bruce very kind and all were very good places to eat 👍
Your enthusiasm in this one is infectious Gary. I hit the like button immediately after the intro. Keep up the great work 😊

Well I’m watching this at 7 o’clock in the morning, and fancy fish and chips for breakfast 😂, good review as always.
lol that’s funny Gary 😂
Just visited Whitby for the first time with my girlfriend and baby daughter. We went to Trenchers based on this review. We ate in and were definitely not disappointed. £16.50 for haddock or cod with chips (no mushy peas), so a little pricier than take-away to be expected. The service and facilities were also fantastic at Trenchers. The best fish and chips I’ve ever had and Whitby is a lovely town. Great review Gary 😋👍🏻
It's a lovely place. Thank you!
@@GaryEatsSurely you mean "a lovely plaice" 😅😅😅

So glad to see you both visited Whitby and went to Hadley’s! My family visits Whitby every year and it’s our go to spot (after our previous closed) - Magpies has never seemed worth the queues, there’s so many other great choices in the town. Thanks for the video!
I appreciate you commenting Emma and Hadley’s is really great 👍
Great upload. Can't believe you went to Whitby and didn't have the COD. It's the best in the UK. Not a fan of skin-on the fish, it's a lazy practice and not necessary. Thanks for another corking video Gary. Lots of blessings.
Very kind thank you
Haddock is the best tasting fish by far. Very rarely get Cod in the North.
@@kevindenyer428 Taste is subjective, however, i live in the north and you can get cod everywhere. Whitby is famous for it. You're talking nonsense.
That reminds me to tell my local chippy what size Haddock should be? 😂 Lovely brown chips..every time for me as I cook them in beef dripping🎉..Great vlog as always..hope ypu are enjoying your stay in Whitby, never been but it looks lovely🎉

Magpie 7-1/2
Abbey Wharf- 7
Silver Street -6
Got to say Whitby is brimming with Fish &chips & scenery- what a place.
Unbelievable town with lovely people thanks for scoring really appreciated 👍
Got to say Trenches is the best. Magpie off season in the restaurant is great but don’t bother ordering anything with chips and no point even trying in the summer.
Oh happy days, my favourite food, fish, chips and mushy peas. I love Whitby, been many times, glad to see the weather was behaving itself. The first lot of fish and chips for me, that haddock looked delicious. So jealous Gary, a dream come true, 5 lots of fish and chips to try.
Thank you so much Ann. I have to say, Whitby is absolutely beautiful!

That would be brilliant but not sure it’s going to happen lol 😂
Gary, lovely video. Its oddly satisfying watching someone pick up a bit of battered fish, take a bite and seeing their reaction.
Especially when they are as polite and reasonable as you are.
I rated them as 9 - 7 - 8 - 8 - 7 Trenchers looked so good, but I don't think I'd be particularly disappointed with any of them if I'm honest.

Yes Gary the 1st one got my top score. You scored everything properly. Great review once again.
Thank you John I agree completely
Great advert for Whitby Gary. Well done. Keep doing what you are doing. Really enjoyed the comparisons.
Thank you Steven
Another excellent review Gary. My scores were the same as yours. However I would never have mushy peas in any universe! I just don’t like them, or ordinary peas for that matter! What I love is that most of them do skin on fish which I absolutely love, but here in Orkney it’s not a thing and I miss it! Apart from my sisters pub where she’ll do it for anyone who asks. Interested in why you chose haddock, that’s all we ever get here and I miss the choice of cod or sole or plaice etc. I’d probably not visit Whitby in summer it’ll be absolutely heaving, you went at just the right time, it looks stunning.
I chose haddock for a change on this one the town is so nice 👌
I had Trenchers as No. 1. Brilliant vlog Gary as always. Can't tell you how many times I've been close to Whitby but never stopped. It looked a stunning place.
Phillip you have to visit a beautiful town
You've made my year, Gary. From the start, your enthusiasm for what you were about to unveil in this video was infectious and outstanding entertainment. Well done to you and Mr Cameraman.
I know I’m truly blessed to live up here and so close to this gorgeous mecca, but I'm delighted that the town of Whitby and the selection of its many fish and chip shops that you chose, lived up to the hype, except for Silver Street Fisheries, which is always closed when we go.
I agree with your rankings, except I would have marked Silver Street as a 5.
Over the years, we have eaten more in Trenchers than any other Fish and Chip shop in Whitby. Never had a bad meal there. I always ask for my haddock to be fried without the skin and they always oblige. We had a halibut special in Hadleys last year, which was outstanding. We went to the Magpie Cafe most recently to eat some a la carte and daily specials. They offer the most choice of any fish dish types or seafood on their restaurant menu, mostly excellent if you want a good fish or seafood restaurant meal.
Lucky for you, the seagull outside of the Magpie had either overdosed on their soggy batter or just taken his daily diazepem. They normally don't tend to observe politely but swoop in immediately, pinch your food or make you drop it on the deck.
Play them a Kylie song on your phone's loudspeaker and they'll commute to Whitley Bay in a flash. 😅😅😅😂❤
Brilliant comment Graham thank you and music definitely going forwards lol 😂
@@GaryEats What did you think to last bit of the drive up to Whitby between Pickering to Whitby past the Hole of Horcum over the North York Moors? It has been voted England's most scenic regular bus route.
Stunning.
A fish and chip marathon. Now that's my kind of marathon! Whitby is a really lovely place although it's been some years since I last visited. Like you I was really surprised at the Magpie offering mostly because that is the one James Martin champions. The chips and the batter did look very sad. Maybe on another day the result could be very different but you can't judge them on 'what ifs' or 'maybes' only on what you were provided with which was fair. Where there is so much competition standards have to be consistent no matter who you are. Great job and you were blessed with good weather too. I could almost smell the sea air and the fish n chips!
I had a great time really loved the town and the people 👍
Well delivered Gary top marks for covering 5 outlets plus your own cutlery ❤❤

Great video, really helpful as i'm visiting soon and always a bit cautions when trying new F&C places. I'll be heading to Trenchers or Hadleys. I bet scraps at Trenchers are great looking at that batter. Thanks
I hope you have a great time
I've never clicked on a new video so quickly in my life. Let's havva go and watch it 😄❤
Nice video again, Gary! ❤ Cameraman hasn't eaten this good in a long time!! don't be making a habit of this! 🤣🤣
I know you said the Magpie was cooked to order, but did you see them fry the chips then and there? my theory is: they're usually so packed with lines going around the block, that the chips that are being fried are served as soon as they're done cooking. They can barely cook them, as fast as they're going out again. It's almost an immediate turn around, and that adds an element of freshness you can't beat, I reckon.
Whereas, when it's not jam-packed, they're probably not gonna blow you away because they've just been sat, even if just for a few secs/mins. It's like when you get McDonalds chips. If you've ever had them straight out the fryer, they are so hot/crispy/fluffy, it's night and day compared to the ones which have been stood on the rack keeping warm.
When we were last there, we saw the lines at Trenchers and Magpies and just found somewhere else randomly. Tried the "Fish Box" just down the road, in and out in a few minutes, and had some really nice quality chips/pies, staff were nice too. Best chips I've ever had, were at the Lifeboat Bar in Scarborough, always had quality fish/chips from there without fail. (they've also got a funny sign inside which says the explanation for "Scraps" up north, and a long list of INCORRECT names other people use for them... 🤭😂)
lol thank you very much
Great video Gary,The Magpie depends on its past reputation for customers to flock there,Standards have dropped,Trenchers was easily the best and always cosistent, Great to watch your channel keep them coming.

Gary, five fish and chip shops in one video? As a Londoner stuck in the US this was torture to watch! There’s no decent fish and chips anywhere in the country. Here in Alabama all we have is Captain D’s feeble attempt. The only fish they have is pollock which looks like cod but has zero taste!
Anyway, great vid!
So sorry my friend lol

Great idea to try the 5 places over a couple of days, everything is still fresh in your mind so the reviews are spot on. The scores seemed to be pretty much in line with what I was thinking.
Nice little chuckle with the 'I hope it's not 12 o' clock' line as well😂
Cracking stuff, now off to watch the next review! 👍🏼
Thank you Warren no more fish and chips for a while lol
Great review! Of the five I’ve only visited The Magpie, it was 17yrs ago. I also had Haddock and remember it being lovely. Beef dripping is next level for Fish and Chips, just the smell outside the Chippy is gorgeous and unmistakable. I thought Trenchers looked very good. I remember in your neck of the woods The Fryers Delight in Bloomsbury and Rock Salt in Folkestone cook in beef dripping. I remember Rock Salt offering the choice of veg oil or beef dripping but obviously I went for dripping.
I’ll take a look at your suggestions thank you Doug
Great review again Gary 👍🏾
Some great fish meals there. Personally I always like skin on as you can tell what fish you are getting. The secret to getting the excellent batters you got apart from Magpies is leaving lumps in the batter and not over beating it. When the fish cooks the lumps explode giving that lovely crispy curls on the fish. Look like Magpies were over zealous with the mixing 😊
As for chips, I love those crispy bits that you didn’t like 😂
Thank you, I don’t mind as long as it’s quality which every place had 👍
This is why this channel trumps any in the UK brilliant Gary yet again.
That’s so very kind thank you
Or anywhere! Agree 100% 👍
Hi Gary, great reviews and loved the video ,very well put together indeed, my league table was the same as yours and another thing which swung it for Trenchers was the wow factor of when you opened the box the fish and chips just looked so appetising and you wanted to eat them , makes me want to eat some fish and chips now .
Thank you a very kind comment 👍
A wonderful review of Whitby's excellent fish and chip take aways. As always enjoyed the video and a glimpse of North Yorkshire coast line. Please return in the summer for another visit. We can count on you to give an honest review and I agree Trenchers is my place of choice too. Take care Gary.

How exciting! I've been waiting for your reaction to the best fish and chips in England 😂 My mouth is watering ❤. I absolutely love Whitby and The Abbey. Hope you've got plenty of garlic in case Dracula makes an appearance 😂. Thanks so much. That video made my week. You are an absolute ⭐ star and a fabulous presenter. Thanks again x
That’s a lovely comment and made my night thank you xx
@@GaryEats More than welcome. You should be a professional presenter! I'm still craving fish and chips 😋 😂 So looking forward to the next video review. By the way, did you climb the steps to the Abbey? 😂 That will burn off the calories! Thanks again for your wonderful videos. Take care xx
That's incredibly kind. Thank you :) I didn't but I wish I did!
I’m hungry now! I agree Trenchers is the best. Whenever I’m in Whitby ( not that often, but every few years) Trenchers is my go-to fish n chip shop. Gosh! I really,REALLY,want some fish n chips after watching this!😂
It was the best Margaret, go on have some tonight lol
Great reviews 👌 spot on Gary
Thanks Stephen 👍
What a great idea for a review. Thanks! Whitby is on the bucket list for the wife and I. We'd like to stay a couple of days, then pop down to Goathland for a couple of days, then over to Scarborough. Sounds like Trencher's is the one to try if you're only in Whitby for a short visit.
Appreciate that thank you and a great choice 👍
You can't beat Whitby for fish n chips. And the stunning scenery.
I fully fully agree 👍
Good to see you in my ancestral home where my Great Uncle landed in Victorian times 🧛
For me Trenchers was best overall, just get the mushy peas from the Magpie Cafe.
I'm planning on moving back to Whitby next year and I will be sampling the fish & chips. As a proper Northerner, I need top quality mushy peas which should be radioactive green with the consistency of thick porridge.
Compared to my neck of the woods, seeing fish, chips & mushy peas for just £10-£12 is amazing. Where I live, haddock is £13.40 on its own.
It’s a beautiful town with lovely people so definitely I’d move back there 👍
Good one Gary it was worth the wait! Epic episode, exactly what I hoped for.
Some of the best fish and chips in the World Yorkshire coast, combined with West Yorkshire also.
I agree Trenchers is number 1, but all are better than 99% elsewhere.
Thank you it was a lot of fun 🤩
Another great video with very fair reviews Gary well done 😊
Appreciated David 👍
Great video, as always, Gary. Glad to say I was one of the guys that recommended Trenchers to you. As regular visitors, to Whitby, it's my family's go to place for lunch.
Keep up the good work, mate 👍
Thank you Ian a brilliant choice and the winner thank you
Great reviews.
I can give a fairly informed appraisal, as I live 40 miles from Whitby and go there a lot. I've eaten at all 5 restaurants and I think your experience was pretty typical of all 5 takeaways.
No 1 for me would be Trenchers. It's always consistently excellent in every way (though I have never tried their mushy peas, nor have I anywhere else. I prefer curry sauce).
No 2 (by the tiniest margin) would be Hadleys. Never been disappointed in any way. The fish is always excellent, the batter delicious and the chips tasty. On some occasions, it's been better than Trenchers.
No 3 would be Abbey Wharf. The fish and batter has always been spectacular, but the chips can be a bit variable.
No 4 would be Silver Street. It's a lot cheaper and the portions are a bit smaller, but I've never had a greasy portion. I always ask him to rest it a few minutes, as I do everywhere. It's just round the corner from where I stay in Skinner Street, so it's convenient. But, if I can be bothered, I'll go to Trenchers or Hadleys.
No 5 would be The Magpie. I've only had 2 takeaways (about 5 years ago, admittedly) and they were really ordinary. The fish was good (there's no excuse for it not to be when you're 50 m from where it's landed), but they couldn't get the batter right, the portion was a bit small and the chips were underdone.
BUT - don't be put off eating INSIDE The Magpie Cafe. The standards are vastly higher and the fish and chips are amongst the very best I've ever tasted. And some of the seafood on sale is absolutely breathtakingly good.
I'm popping up to Whitby tomorrow (if the weather's good) and I shall have to decide whether to eat a takeaway at Hadleys or Trenchers or splash some cash and eat in at The Magpie.
What a nice dilemma.
Hey up mate I was surprised with silver street as been a few times and really liked it but last time was probably 7 years ago, always had skin on when I went
50m from where its landed?? I have lived in Whitby all my life, the fish is landed mainly in scotland and comes down by freezer trucks, check out the moor road at 4 in the morning, you would need a fleet of boats that would more than fill the harbour to supply all the fish consumed in whitby every 24 hours, so not 50metres , more like 400miles!!
@@tomegton hey up mate was told it came from Scotland by a chippy owner in Whitby about ten years ago
@@tomegtonThat's not true, as a chef myself I can tell if fish has been frozen or not. There may be some fish and chip shops in Whitby that sell frozen fish but not the main ones.
@@RJAThere are no boats in whitby suitable to catch cod/haddock , only shellfish, there is a column of artic reefer trucks travel from peterhead during the night to supply Whitby, I see them every morning, maybe you can tell me which boats land enough fish in Whitby??
Appreciate this Gary. I will be ordering my fish n chips from Trenchers, pop to Magpie cafe for my peas and sneak into Abbey wharf to eat it while enjoying the views from the decking area👍😀
That’s a great plan 👍
Great video Gary we love Whitby and think you got reviews bang on !! Keep up the good work.
I love it too now Mark for sure
1st, Trenchers 10, 2nd Hadleys 91/2, 3rd Abbey Wharf 8, 4th Magpie 7 1/2,
5th Silver Street 7.
So good to see you in Whitby, I grew up just outside Whitby, we always went to Hadleys but I've been to Trenchers and Magpie, I agree Magpie was the most disappointing of the 3 I've been to.
A great video Gary, must have been hard work all those fish and chips 😏
Hello Susan it was a struggle but what a great struggle, beautiful town and wonderful people, thank you for scoring really appreciated have a brilliant week x
