HONDA CRF450 What we hate: 1. Clutch. The clutch is weak. Get rid of the judder spring and small plate. 2. Radiators. It overheats and boils water like a teapot as dirt gets stuck in the radiator guards. 3. Exhaust. Can’t complain about the horsepower, but we don’t give any of the credit to the twice pipes. We also don’t like how far the head pipe sticks out. Some riders hit it when they put their leg out. 4. Handling. It likes to turn but is very busy between corners. 5. Weight. 238 pounds is exactly 15 pounds too much. 6. Sound. On the 2-meter-max sound test, it blew 117.5 dB. That’s loud, but it passed the 94 dB Amateur sound test. 7. Setup. We never had as much trouble getting a chassis to work in conjunction with the engine and suspension. This is a very sensitive bike. 8. Forks. The fork aren’t as soft as the KX450 forks, yet they don’t have good bottoming resistance. Nobody likes to feel that harsh bottoming sensation. What we like: 1. Horsepower. It is obvious that Honda is over their “slow-is-better” phase. With 60.21 horses, it is an awesome engine from bottom to top. 2. Ergos. Nothing feels as nice, comfy and well-laid-out as a CRF450. 3. Electric starting. Ken Roczen dropped it for the weight, but we’ll keep it for the ease of use. 4. Maps. We like the maps, but we always ran the stock one. The aggressive map felt crisper but actually gave up one horse everywhere. 5. Handlebars. Lower is better. The oversize Renthal FatBars mean adios to 7/8th inch bars. 6. Launch control. This is the first time that Honda added launch control. It is overly complicated but offers three different settings.
Picking on a bike's suspension as a 'con' only because you're not heavy enough isn't fair on Honda. I'm 240 pounds and there aren't any bike on the market that are set up for my weight from factory but I don't hold that against the manufacturer. Obviously Honda saw the demand from consumers for heavier springs this year. It's not their fault that you're lighter than majority of their customers. Otherwise great video man!

he cries about the dual exhaust then he says he loves it the levers can be changed if he doesnt like the up and down play, the battery is 100 dollars when you buy a after market by wps. this is not the most powerful bike but it has good power. i own a 2017 and added exhaust and pipes and electric start. next week i will have a 14.1 piston and a ported and polished head,
The dual exhausts are actually only a 3rd higher in price, the header is tapered for more high end pull in the powerband and it will naturally put out a lot of heat, the levers have play to keep the chances of them breaking to a minimum. 450 riders are usually heavier in weight and taller in height, Honda put stiffer springs in because everyone said they were too soft in 2017. Honda designed a battery specifically for their 250r and 450r, because they wanted it to weigh less and be less of a fire hazard than standard lithium ion batteries which are also much heavier. Your cons are legitimate, but they do all of these things for a reason, performance comes at a price these days.
@@Dsklar41 Hey, I wont dare try to justify the cost of that battery. :) Just telling you what I know. I wish they would have put lighter springs on my 08 too lol. And I love dirtbikes in general, so I just look up this kind of stuff in my free time.

@@Dsklar41 so even with the stock suspension being adjusted you still thought they were for like heavier riders? What your saying is that they aren't bad just made for bigger riders?
Jason Herwig precisely!! @@Dsklar41 ohhhh ok I see what you were saying. Wasn't throwing shade just I didn't really get what you were saying until no. Kind of obvious tho haha. thanks man appreciate it. sick vid btw
Awesome vid bro! I just wanted to share my experiences with that battery loaded on the bike. I have an 18 crf450r which is for the most part the same bike. I ride maybe once or twice a month and have had the bike for about 6 months now and have had absolutely no issues with the batter dying surprisingly. I trickle charged it just out of curiosity this last month and only had to charge for literally 2 minutes before it was charged back to full again which was great! My personal opinion is that the battery is much better than most people believe.
Joseph Wagner thanks bro! So I could be wrong but I’m pretty sure they changed the battery in the 19, not sure if your is lithium or not, but I got warned about it from two different dealerships and mechanics, I always put mine on a trickle charger when I’m not riding it
Dsklar41 ya mine was a lithium battery but u have a good practice there with having it on the charger whenever ur not using it. We gotta ride some time bro
Don’t listen to the blow hards about your “light” weight. When I was younger I was about 138 soaking wet. However, their was no one that could touch me on my RM and they all were heavier than me and a lot of them were on 250s . It not about weight. It about skill... period!! Good review!
Very good comments and feedback on the bike. I like the cons as most reviews don't mention things like the cost of a lithium battery or the dual cost to replace mufflers.
Scratched clutch cover isnt from “shotty” coating.... its boot rub... you can either powder coat it, strip it so it’s raw aluminum, or wear fuzzy bunny slippers when you ride.... that’s not even a legit complaint. Fork spring weight is a legit gripe. I doubt Honda will ever address the lever issues because most people break them and replace them so no need to throw money at a consumable part.
Ooo fuzzy boots 😂 that’s funny but yeah I see your point with the forks I completely changed mine too however it is something to keep in mind for off the showroom floor

okay when you start your bike does it blink once then a long red blink then a few blue blinks right? The blue blinks are you map but the red is 1 fast blink then a long one
The good thing is most of the stuff that you didn't like about the bike can be fixed except for the price on that exhaust and how far to exhaust sticks out from the bike I just want to say you've probably never wrote a two stroke. If you're worried about how far that exhaust header sticks out. Otherwise great video bro.😂👍
Aaron Martin TV oh I’ve rode plenty of two strokes but those pipes are different can’t really compare but thanks for the liking my vid! Glad you enjoyed
$150 for a feather weight battery, $50 for a cheap lithium. Adjusting your cable clutch properly will get rid off 99% of that lever play. Acerbis side cover protectors will keep your engine looking frozen.
Michael Smith I personally like Honda’s but I hear Yamaha has really out done almost everyone, I suggest if you can ride both, straddle both and see which bike you like better, remember any bike can be your perfect bike with parts and suspension job it’s almost what comes with more from the factory

If it’s anything like the new 250 you be happy. Only been out twice on mine and man does it handle well and coming of the 2015 very happy with the power increase.
Not to be rude, but no bike other that a pw50 is sprung from the factory for your weight. You skinny bro.😁 and you shouldn't have any issues with that battery, but if you do dont buy one for $500 that's just stupid, you can get lithium batteries for well under $200.
I’m 5’10 but I am light, I assume you are to? I’d suggest sitting on one and see how you feel, depending on your skill level it may be better if you got a 250, if height is the problem have the seat cut for you I have a friend who is really short and she had her seat cut and a full size bike fits her better
JSM Beatz if you are an experienced rider it sounds like your like me then I have tons of experience, I may be tall but I only weight 132lbs but with my experience I can easily handle a 450! I did set my bike up for me when I got it tho whatever bike you get it’s important that you do the same. I’d say if you got the experience go for it!!!
Well according to the magazines (dirt rider) (mxa mag) the bike handles amazing, best in class and it’s got the most top end so yeah I would, plus the looks are so good!!! U can make it more powerful with money of course
@@Dsklar41 just picking! Not sure if I like all the bells and whistles though? The exhaust is cool, but does it add weight? But the one thing that I hate is no kick start? Why delete it?
Robert Pate I’m not sure if they weigh more or not I do know that this is the second heaviest bike in the class however it makes up for it in power and handing and when I ride it doesn’t feel heavy at all
Lithium Batteris if you buy them in the UK (aftermarket ones) are around $100. I've got one on my 2007 CRF450. If you are stupid you buy the Honda one for $500, Probably made in the same factory except they are marked up Honda instead of Yuasa...
What they look like and what they actually are compared to other manufacturers, are night and day different. A lithium battery isn’t $500 either, not sure where you got that number. Honda has THE best quality of any manufacturer out there.
When weather permits I’m going to make a video testing it and we will all find out but when I raced and stalled it I pulled in the clutch released it and nothing happened
First off they are bigger in person and second doesn’t matter how big you are, I work out 5 days a week 6 if u count practice every weekend, I’m very strong and I have great endurance
Yeah 5 pros, 1. You can plaster the bike with HRC parts with the money you saved not gettin the werx edition. 2. I don't need a 2 after a 1 like that . Yeah 5 cons, 1. When you said the springs are wrong for a 450 coming in at seven meters. 2. You get da idea.
Keep me in mind when you want to sell your stock exhaust. I’d like to buy a full system (header and mufflers) for a 2019 CRF450r or WE (dreaming). Thanks
I hear Honda clutch is pretty shitty. I have a CRF150r, and would have to rev the engine in 1st gear to prevent the engine from stalling. Riding at slow speeds in the trails is not fun on this bike. I don't know if the 250s and 450 4 stroke fees the same.
@@Dsklar41 I own newer YZ250F and YZ450F bikes, and the clutch feel on those bikes don't stall at slow speeds like the CRF150r. Yes, there is some clutch work involved on the Yammies but nothing like the CRF150r. That lil bike has a very touchy clutch
Brandon Jackson like I keep telling everyone else, that’s what the dealer told me, I found out later that it doesn’t cost that same price as the husky battery and I didn’t buy any battery yet
Thats crazy my honda dealership took very good care of me.they gave me a 5 year warranty on the battery replace it for free at no cost to me.they even told me without insurance if my bike got stolen they would give me 5,000 for another bike

@@mitchellfield7239 No I don't think so but I do know that lithium battery's cant be recovered when they die all the way (there is a video by vegas romaniac where he starts his yz250fx without a battery but it runs awful)
Hi. I disagree on nearly all cons- Except Dual pipe, yes it is more expensive. Battery- you can get China one for 30$ Springs- first time I can hear that?? Some salesman just sold you idea to change them.😉 Good luck.✊💨
Thats more than 10% of the cost. It doesnt make sense to spend that much on one part. Fyi 2 stroke complete systems cost ab 500 so I disagree with ur logic
The suspension is NEVER perfect for any rider straight from the crate, not sure what you weigh, but you look like 250f weight, so the springs will feel a bit stiff. I have to say, your nitpicking is hilarious. These bikes come with phenomenal suspension, as close to A-Kit stuff as you can get without smashing your little sisters piggy bank to pay for it. Honda has the best quality period, the exhaust is what it is, you can wrap the header pipe to keep the heat down. The battery can be replaced with a regular battery when and if it needs it. A trickle charger solves that issue. The clutch cover coating is going to rub off, if it didn’t,you weren’t holding on with your feet and legs like you should. Rip that thing and appreciate it for what it is, a bad ass bike. I am one of those “older gentleman” you speak of and appreciate the electric start, but have to agree, it is missing the kicker as a backup. They had to save weight somewhere..... Ride it like you stole it. C442 #FAHQforLIFE
I wondered why they deleted the kick start , now I know ... 500.00 for a small battery and saving on a kick start ! what a rip off. Once the guys get stranded or buy a few batteries they stop buying bikes , so there you go Honda, KTM .... you just kicked yourself in the ass , good for you!
Lol! However I have been informed that it doesn’t actually cost $500.00 the dealer lied to me u can actually find them for about $100-$150ish sorry for the confusion but yeah I agree it should have a fail safe (Kickstarter)
I can handle a 44 magnum just fine. But I'm better with a 9mm. I can handle a 450 but I'm better on a 150 xcw. 54 years old till I admitted it. Nice bike though!👍

I’m 5’10 but I am light, I assume you are to? I’d suggest sitting on one and see how you feel, depending on your skill level it may be better if you got a 250, if height is the problem have the seat cut for you I have a friend who is really short and she had her seat cut and a full size bike fits her better
Dsklar41 I’ve been to my local Honda but they don’t have 450’s but I think height wouldn’t matter if I’m an experienced rider ?
JSM Beatz if you are an experienced rider it sounds like your like me then I have tons of experience, I may be tall but I only weight 132lbs but with my experience I can easily handle a 450! I did set my bike up for me when I got it tho whatever bike you get it’s important that you do the same. I’d say if you got the experience go for it!!!
Dsklar41 yeah I have lots of experience with dirtbikes ive been riding every day for 1 year
JSM Beatz yeah man then go for it!!! It’s a great bike
The dual exhaust is heavy too, I’m probably going to buy the whole fmf system that switches it to a single exhaust for my 18, you lose like 4-5 pounds
Andrew Poulson yeah it’s cheaper too
my battery sat for 6 months and never lost a volt
Billster what year do u have
You can find a lot of aftermarket Batteries for under 500$ bud
Josh Oconnell yeah I found that out lol everyone got mad at me for saying that, thanks for your help, when you help me you help everyone else too
Would like to buy the 2019 250f but someone told me that it has a bad midrange power?!?
Well according to the magazines (dirt rider) (mxa mag) the bike handles amazing, best in class and it’s got the most top end so yeah I would, plus the looks are so good!!! U can make it more powerful with money of course
Dsklar41 thanks mate... my two favorites just in time:
Kx250f 2017-2018
Or the
Crf250r 2019
Love the crf tech and look
AeroR of course! Glad I can help
Too old to kick start, ok sport, whatever?
Robert Pate haha I meant it’s easier for everyone
@@Dsklar41 just picking! Not sure if I like all the bells and whistles though? The exhaust is cool, but does it add weight? But the one thing that I hate is no kick start? Why delete it?
Robert Pate yeah the dual exhaust adds more weight but not sure y they deleted the kick starter good question
@@Dsklar41 they say for weight? Like the starter and battery dosen weigh more?
Robert Pate I’m not sure if they weigh more or not I do know that this is the second heaviest bike in the class however it makes up for it in power and handing and when I ride it doesn’t feel heavy at all
Lithium Batteris if you buy them in the UK (aftermarket ones) are around $100. I've got one on my 2007 CRF450. If you are stupid you buy the Honda one for $500, Probably made in the same factory except they are marked up Honda instead of Yuasa...
Yeah I did my research and your right batteries don’t cost 500
What they look like and what they actually are compared to other manufacturers, are night and day different. A lithium battery isn’t $500 either, not sure where you got that number.
Honda has THE best quality of any manufacturer out there.
Your not starting it without a kickstart or electric start? Can you not bump start it?🤦🏻♂️
When weather permits I’m going to make a video testing it and we will all find out but when I raced and stalled it I pulled in the clutch released it and nothing happened
Dsklar41 interesting, will look forward to that video. Thanks for the reply.
Luke White ok I posted the test check it out
Man how do you hold on with those arms no offence
First off they are bigger in person and second doesn’t matter how big you are, I work out 5 days a week 6 if u count practice every weekend, I’m very strong and I have great endurance
Give the kid a break! A lot of these negative comments just show immature behavior!!
I hate feeling shit in my pant legs
Wut lol?
@@Dsklar41 @ 0.51
Maggieba lol got it now 😂
Yeah 5 pros, 1. You can plaster the bike with HRC parts with the money you saved not gettin the werx edition. 2. I don't need a 2 after a 1 like that . Yeah 5 cons, 1. When you said the springs are wrong for a 450 coming in at seven meters. 2. You get da idea.
2019 came with hydronic clutch already?
No Honda still has cable clutch
Keep me in mind when you want to sell your stock exhaust. I’d like to buy a full system (header and mufflers) for a 2019 CRF450r or WE (dreaming). Thanks
Rod Z I’ll keep that in mind thanks man
I just bought a 2020 Same bike but I hate the pipes of the heat because it burns my pants all the time
Yeah but if u change the pipes from stock it’s better
8:30 now it needs top end rebuild xD
DannyS hahah so far so good 😂
That wear on the clutch cover is defo not 1 ride old
No it’s one 1 hour old I’m not kidding lol
Dsklar41 I have a new Honda and mine is just starting it lol
seth n when did you get yours and when did the finish come off
Dsklar41 Started after 8 hours
seth n hmm interesting
Wait so do you like the twin exhausts or not😂
potato villian lol I like them just not the price of them lol
I hear Honda clutch is pretty shitty. I have a CRF150r, and would have to rev the engine in 1st gear to prevent the engine from stalling. Riding at slow speeds in the trails is not fun on this bike. I don't know if the 250s and 450 4 stroke fees the same.
If you primarily trail ride, you should get a 150f, the r is a race bike and is geared more for the track, that’s why
Bro the lithium battery for my Husqvarna was 149$ where are you buying a battery for 500$
Brandon Jackson like I keep telling everyone else, that’s what the dealer told me, I found out later that it doesn’t cost that same price as the husky battery and I didn’t buy any battery yet
That looks like the stock shock to me
The actual shock is stock but I changed the springs
You had the suspension changed so if will definitely handle different then stock
MR MOTOCROSS yeah it does, because I’m light weight the stock was way too stiff for me however stock may be fine for others
Thats crazy my honda dealership took very good care of me.they gave me a 5 year warranty on the battery replace it for free at no cost to me.they even told me without insurance if my bike got stolen they would give me 5,000 for another bike
Wow must be nice what dealership is that?
Southern honda powersports
In Chattanooga
Ah no way in TN? I’m moving there in two months would be nice to have someone to ride with
Cool man hmu we can go ride some badass trails Aetna mountain 60 plus miles of riding and hardcore hillclimbs.its free to go ride there and people go there to get drunk and raise hell
So the battery dies no kick start also can’t you just bump start it? Tf
Hard Clapz yeah check this out ua-cam.com/video/RsAXtjSVc_c/v-deo.html
Dsklar41 thanks
Looking for my fist bike want a reliable bike that looks good ... I personally like to work on my vehicles so I assume Honda bikes are easy to work on
Yessir, everything is relatively easy to get to, I work on my own stuff too except major engine repairs, I don’t have too much trouble with it, it has been an extremely reliable bike so far and if you take good care of it it will take good care of you! Good luck with whatever bike you get and have fun
So basically....... zero cons. Homie needs to gain weight.
I only mentioned suspension once as a con the rest has nothing to do with my weight
Suspension, no it’s set up for Supercross, and if you can’t take one race without being “beat up” you need to work out 😂
You can get a battery for under $30, not very hard, you just gotta actually look
Map 2 is for wet riding and black wheels look nice now to wheels get scratched then look crap
Very cool looking bike !
Tim Janssen thanks man!!!
Beautiful bike man
shenaniganz krew 22 thanks bro!!! What do u ride?
@@Dsklar41 all I have right now is a kx65 that I made into a pit bike. I looked at the new Honda 250s and the yz250s as well. I'm ready to buy just can't make my mind up if I want a race bike or a dual sport bike lol.
shenaniganz krew 22 maybe I can help what type of riding are u most likely to do ?
Actually dm me on insta if u have one
@@Dsklar41 sure man I'll send ya a dm and thanks!
how much is it monthly?
Well it will all depend on how much u put down but mine is $185
It’s called “valve cover” buddy No hate 🤘
Haha thanks bro👊🏼
Mine is way to stiff on front too I'm 60kg
They didn't come with chrome rims, bro, they were aluminium. Con 6, your video ;)
Good video. Make America great again 👍
Jim Wil thanks man I’m trying lol
Esteban Ocon, is that you?
Jason Bonnici hahah I’m dying!! I would be richer
My battery on my ktm 250sxf holds its charge no problem.
I just keep it on a tender to be safe it doesn’t hurt
Also ktm has the same size battery and no kickstart
is this for real?
Bro! Why there’s no headlight? Nice bike but no headlight, shitttt
Thanks bro! But it’s a race bike, usually only trail bikes or dual sports have lights
The exhaust does not sound good especially the honda 250 sound more like an xr
No kick start wtf???
Yup! Welcome to the future
well uhh you could jump start it if the battery dies
Mitchell Field true, but if the battery is dead dead then u can’t
Yea you cant bump start if its dead because it powers the EFi
Max Williams is there someway to hook up the efi to the stator
@@mitchellfield7239 No I don't think so but I do know that lithium battery's cant be recovered when they die all the way (there is a video by vegas romaniac where he starts his yz250fx without a battery but it runs awful)
Max Williams seen it, but at least on his yz there’s a spot to put the kick start in lol
Hi.
I disagree on nearly all cons- Except Dual pipe, yes it is more expensive.
Battery- you can get China one for 30$
Springs- first time I can hear that?? Some salesman just sold you idea to change them.😉
Good luck.✊💨
Pros of my 09 crf450r
Pro I can jump anything in 3rd
Cons hard ass clutch pull and the bitch almost killed me flaming out on some big table tops
I have a 11 450, it blew up lol
Not a big fan of that exhaust .
battery 500 dollars WHAAAAAT?
Yeah after this vid I found out that’s not true that’s what the dealer told me when I bought it
if you can buy a 10,000 450 you can buy a 1,500 exhaust
Silas Malone it’s just something to keep in mind about this bike
Thats more than 10% of the cost. It doesnt make sense to spend that much on one part. Fyi 2 stroke complete systems cost ab 500 so I disagree with ur logic
Cale Phillips dual exhausts cost around $1500
Stanley Sykes ur right
The suspension is NEVER perfect for any rider straight from the crate, not sure what you weigh, but you look like 250f weight, so the springs will feel a bit stiff.
Yeah I got it all taken care of, this vid is old now but I hear what you are saying
@@Dsklar41 ... best to install a kick start if possible .
I think that would a lot of work.. you’d have to change the whole engine case and add the gears for it too but sure it’s possible
I can handle a 44 magnum just fine.
But I'm better with a 9mm.
I can handle a 450 but I'm better on a 150 xcw.
54 years old till I admitted it. Nice bike though!👍
Thanks man!
$500 for a battery?! B.S.!! At most $120 without sale. If you’re paying $500 for a battery you deserve it...
If the battery died I would just pop start it...
Loved the used haha
TwistedThrottle Me too especially this song!!!
500 Dollers? dafuq?
i´ve bought one for 30 dollers. and its perfect
2 muffler makes 0 sense on a 1 cylinder motor

on a 450 with a shit load of compression it does
@@coryellis12 oh please....
Also balances out the weight aswell
you look a little thin to be ridin a 450
Bob Lee Swagger first I love your movie 😂 and second Ive put my time on a 250 it’s not about being big and bulky it’s about being strong and having good endurance. I ride a 450 cause I can handle it no problem
