Recorded at the Stockbridge Theater at Pinkerton Academy in Derry, NH on April 17, 2010. This was an evening of music billed as Leo Kottke / Jerry Douglas.
The gabfest at the beginning is worth the price of admission! RIP Tom T. Hall, the storyteller who created this song. Passed today at 85 August 20th, 2021
There are guys who don't need to impose, their art speaks louder than any words ever could. So much sweetness in one place my just kill me, but if it does, when they bury me, they won't be able to pry the smile off with a crowbar!
For folks who have seen/heard Leo play this song by himself, when he's solo he tunes the guitar to an open D or E in order to play slide on the guitar. But in this rendition because he's playing with Jerry, he just tuned it to normal guitar tuning and ripped into it, no effort. He just transposes it in his head/hands as he goes. Simply amazing.
I was at this concert. What a treat to see a snippet of what was a great show. I'm a big, big Kottke fan and had only recently been introduced to Jerry Douglas.
I regret not seeing these two together, when I had the chance. Two world class musicians!!
What a treat to have seen these two greats togther. Awesome!!

Thanks for everyone's comments, I'm gratified to hear that you've enjoyed the videos.
I was at this very concert. I've seen Leo many many times. This was a special one! They were great individually and together.
The world's best 12 string guitarist with the world's best dobro player. I suppose that's why this is so great.
I would pay big money to see these two guys in concert together, that is for damn sure.

nice, Leo seems to be duetting quite a bit recently.
Why, oh why didn't the soundie turn Leo's guitar off in FOH while he tuned so we could hear banter clearly?
Great show! I even liked Jerry's one bum note at 4:26
