I play on a public course, sometimes by myself, and I never let my wedge touch the sand. He knew what he was doing.
I'm a hacker and I never ground my club in a bunker.
Technically it wasn't a bunker, it was a waste area, thus he was allowed to ground his club. But he wasn't allowed to remove sand from behind his ball.
@@bluespeyerful - Oh, a technicality! Thx.
@@bluespeyerful that's correct. He had a practice stroke to the side which is allowed in a waste area but he knew what he was doing improving the lie. Major winner but always with an * against his name forever after this
@Salty 556 depends on what they did...please explain
The golf gods said: “no u” when the ball rolled down the other side of the green 😂
Ball don’t lie baby
Lmao
They giveth and they taketh away.
Karma baby 👌
I actually have given Reed the benefit of the doubt all throughout his career but that is blatant cheating, he should have been disqualified
Random Person
Tigers was an honest mistake. Duh. He ended up incriminating himself in the lost press conference which is the only reason anyone knew he took an illegal drop. Obviously if he was cheating, he wouldnt have said a thing and the world would not have known.
Accidentally breaking the rules and cheating are 2 completely different things.
Man In Black .... Rubbish, he admitted wanting a better yardage🙄🙄
It’s ok being a Tiger fanboy, but he’s done “things” shall we say more than once🤔🤔
They know the rules, it’s their job.. They just “push them a bit”..
Dustin at the US Open TV tower🤷🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️
He did it twice. Removing the sand behind the ball TWICE!!. He should removed from pro golfer.
guess now he deserves the doubt?
JoefromNJ1 .... Nope he cheated 🙄🙄
His wife says he never cheats on her because he's always got a good lie.
Not sure if that is an old golf joke everyone knows, but made me laugh.
😂😂😂😂😂

She means he's got a good lay.
Ahhhhhhaaaaaaaa
"He is gonna pay a high price" First we had the Tiger, now we have the cheetah
😂😂😂
That cheetah claims he's as good as Tiger, but I think he's lion.
@@ronnelson7828 You don't even have to poo-puma all over him like that. The cameras already caught his lack of caracal. I've even heard he commits offenses quite ocelot.🐾
That sly fox is nothing but a skunk. What a filthy beast. He's for the birds! 🐵
All right, no more bourbon today.🙈
Makes you wonder how many times this happens of Thursday and Friday mornings when the cameras aren't on.
the cameras are ALWAYS on my friend..even during practice rounds
If you have ever played golf you would know that scenario isn't gunna happen for a long time most bunkers you can't ground your club so he just took advantage of idiots who made the rule but without that rule that would never happen
99.9 percent of tour players play with integrity and would never do this. Patrick Reed should 100 percent be kicked off the tour.
Drewbacca 25 but he cheated
@@drewbacca2536 No matter how you defend it or twist it, he CHEATED plain and simple.potty mouth
Plot twist of fate: Had he not created a perfect path to the ball, the addt'l sand would've slowed the club down just enough to not roll off the green.
thats karma baby :)
The ball never lies
no. it would have had no spin and been impossible to control if he hadn't cleared a path to direct contact with back of ball. that's why this is such an egregious act.. he knew exactly what he was doing.. they said he did it twice, but it appears he did it every time he addressed ball. he's a clown with no morals.. doesn't belong on tour
@@251648 wow relax.. have you ever heard of a rake?
Walfredo having morals has nothing to do with the skill a golfer has. He could kick your ass whether you think you are doing the right thing in life or not just saying bud
Bones: I give that lie a D-
Bones 20 seconds later: I give that lie an A+🧐
Haaaaaaaaa
The funniest thing about this was that this event counts for nothing and is hosted by Tiger Woods during an off week LOL
People don't know this though😂
What does that mean? Cheat?
theboss420ish it means that there are times when cheating might pay off (if you can live with the shame), but this isn’t it. He might as well have sacrificed his reputation to win a cocaine-laced backyard game of cornhole at Dustin Johnson’s house, which has just about as the same importance in the golf world as this tourney, aka none. Yet Reed still just couldn’t help himself, it’s certifiably insane
You don't get money for winning this event?
Brendan Meehan they give out money and world ranking points but it doesn’t count toward your season or career earnings in any way, and there is no prestige in winning beyond impressing Tiger and your peers, as there are only 15-20 players in the event. It’s a cool off-week event, but not something worth cheating over
Trevino had a great story once where a guy was 30 ft from the pin on a green. He kept marking his ball so many times he had a "gimme."
I liked the fact that after he had turned the lie into a decent one his practice swings were still acting like he had a tough one.
Yeah I do same trick when I play my mate
Agreed. It pretty much strongly suggests he does this all the time. Could it be considered "slight-of-hand" or "mis-direction" .....the "extra unnecessary antics ....

Exactly and none of them touched sand on the take away either.
The grandstanding and pearl clutching about Saudi money is quite rich. Over 85% of PGA Tour sponsors were doing business in Saudi, but HOW DARE YOU TAKE THEIR MONEY!! Their money is DIRTY...until it's in OUR hands, which magically turn it clean. 🪄
It's moot now.

Private gambling matches would require a leash so he couldn't get near his ball without supervision.
Put me down for 3
This is outrageous. It questions the integrity of our game when a tour pro cheats like this. Shocking.
Well he certainly isnt on steroids with a belly like that 😁
Hamie 😂😂😂
I mean come on. Does he think the camera didn't catch him grounding his wedge in the sand. Even a blind person could see all that sand fly back on his practice back swing!!!
And the PGA has stopped viewers from calling in violations. That means that if the shot is not on camera or an official isn’t standing there, the player can get away with it. This morning I watched a kid that really fought Tiger on his third Amateur win. The Kid (name escapes me) actually reminded Tiger to replace his mark before putting because Tiger had forgotten . If he hadn’t told him , he would have won automatically. The announcers said it was the best sportsmanship act they had ever seen. The kid played only in two PGA events, (I think) didn’t make the cut and that’s it. He took Tiger to extra holes and at one point was six holes ahead.
“Our” game? Sorry, are you a pro golfer??
How does he expect to not get caught when there’s 20 cameras watching him
How does everyone make these comments without realising this is a waste bunker…
@@georgecumberlidge1944 it doesn’t matter that he’s in a waste bunker you jerkoff. You’re not allowed to improve your lie in this situation. He clearly does so by removing the sand from behind his ball

Thank you good sir for posting the tape. HA! He definitely cheated. The first takeaway was clear as day.
The second takeaway was clear as day, too.
I've played on a golf course like 3 times and I could see what he was doing from the get go.
A couple people have right pointed out that he should’ve known there were a lot of cameras on him. To me that says he’s been doing this stuff for a very long time, that it’s so engrained in his behavior that he didn’t think twice about it.
It’s crazy how there is a camera directly behind him and thinks no one will see him digging in the sand.

I’ve never seen in 47 years a golfer practice swing into the sand, unbelievable.
This was a waste area, not a sand trap. You are allowed to take a practice in that case. IF it were a trap, it would be raked after the shot
scott linton. Didn’t say it wasn’t allowed, I just said I’d never seen it before. 👍🏻
i did once.... when i was 7.... got penalized for it :/

@David its called a waste bunker. not same as a regular bunker. if you never played a course with waste bunkers then get out more.
And now he is suing the Golf Channel for calling him a cheater..??…750 million dollars worth!
When it rolled off, I call that KARMA for being a cheater.
I love the fact that some people think he didn't do it on purpose. He blatantly cheats.
Fozi B Yeah, there is no way he didn’t know what he has doing. Once was bad enough, but he did it twice!!
Bro he said he didn't cheat just to get the attention off of him don't believe every word you hear and you won't be asking yourself that question
I haven't believed what I've heard. I believed my what I saw. He puts his club on the sand, moves some sand (whether purpose fully or not) and then doesn't admit to moving any sand.
Are you telling me, a professional golfer didn't notice that some sand, even a small amount of sand had moved?
That's one point he cheated and I personally believe he did it on purpose. As he did it twice.
Bro.
@@fozib2153 he's allowed to put his club in the sand in that area dude, so technically he can take practice swings there by the ball, you can't improve your lie and that's what they gave him a two shot penalty for but he's allowed to do that so you're being overly dramatic over this incident

I can remember them saying he wouldn't pay up on his old college golf gambling debts...changed my outlook of his character.
He has no character
And he stole money from his team mates.
Confirmed his lack of character to me
Unfortunately now Patrick reed will always be known for this, instead of his masters win. That’s what happens when you cheat.
Zombiehunter115 yep that's why no one liked vj
New England Patriots come to mind here
He’s a piece of garbage
So will Tiger be known as a cheater because he blatantly cheated at tHE Masters? Nick Faldo thought he should have been disqualified. Do I sense a double standard here?
Hey P.Reed is a good man and a great golfer.
This isn't even his first time doing this! Unbelievable.
Yeah wonder how long it took them to find something from 2015 and release it a day after? Sounds like they were fishing anyway.
Oh my gosh. A golfer trying to bend the rules. He should be in jail!
Give me a fucking break. Lighten up and get laid. I’m sure it’s been a while for you.
Wowzers that was atrocious. 100 percent he did that on purpose.
@I. Army I blame his parents. lol
@R P you must be an astros fan lol
"Patrick Reed CAUGHT cheating at Hero World Challenge" Fixed the title for you.
Reed actually said later that there was another camera angle that would've exonerated him. LOL!
It was so obviously intentional it makes me embarrassed to watch him do it. When he was using the back of the wedge as a shovel he didn't know a camera was focused on him.... he realized it, then he started to move around like someone who knows he just got caught doing something wrong...
"Intention" has zilch to do with golf infractions.
You can see it in his body language. He was thinking about how to cheat and cover it up so his body was just on autopilot doing practice swings and fidgeting around. Dude knew exactly what he was doing.
If any of my golf buddies saw that I did that in our Saturday morning 4some, I would never hear the end of it or be banished by them. In golf, simply, you don't cheat. If you make an illegal move, you call yourself on it. Thats why golf is an honorable sport compared with basketball and soccer and football where they would NEVER call a penalty on themselves. If Reed was unclear on the rules he should have called over a rules official.

Its not a bunker, its a waste area where grounding ur club is permitted. So that practice swing was fine. But cannot improve ur lie, which is what he did sweeping sand away from the ball

wow just wow! the cameras were right there...you are leading the tournament, there were going to be several cameras watching you. omg!
After he pulled sand away like four times, he steps back and gives it the old "serious look over" with tilted head... obvious give away.
He does this too in another video covering his US Open, where he will constantly pat down the grass behind the ball, then step away and "reconsider" his options.
If you’ve ever played golf, you know closely you monitor your club in the sand. This was egregious.
He did it twice, once when he dragged sand out from behind the ball, and second when he grounded his club during that practice swing. He is supposedly a professional, he knew what he did was wrong. A CHEAT! No if's or but's.
You are allowed to ground your club and practice swing in a waste bunker
There is no possible way... None. that he did not know what he was doing.
tam jones Right. First time, maybe. Shit happens. Second time? No way, he’s cheating 100%.
Dude is a scumbag. Fowler should have won the Masters instead of him
It is so blatant-I've played golf for 37 years and that is BLATANT cheating. If someone in my group did that I would flat out accuse them of DELIBERATELY improving their lie and cheating. Absolutely no doubt. Golf relies on integrity and Reed is a cheating scumbag. When you see that you would want to count your fingers after shaking hands. And I would seriously call any friendship I would have with a 'friend' doing similar. You CANNOT trust people like this.
@@pigslefats Fuck playing golf with you my friend. Sounds like warfare fss. After 37 years of play aswell I would presume you would realise how tough golf is and just let everyone make the most of it. Guys like you are the reason so many youngsters don't have the balls to start playing in a club.
And ofcourse I'm not defending Reed who this post is about but just how angry you get about if your friend done this. Dude friends are friends and a game of golf shouldn't make you rethink that. End of day it's all a laugh over a pint in the clubhouse
The ironic thing is if he would have left the sand behind the ball he would have ended up with a better shot 😂
“Don’t count that! I was interfered with”
Foooore!! I shoulda yelled two!
Perhaps you should improve your lie
Gentlemen - This is a waste area, NOT A BUNKER & therefore he IS ALLOWED TO TAKE PRACTICE SWINGS AND GROUND THE CLUB, So long as you dont improve your lie. The penalty he got AND DESERVED was improving his lie by pushing down the sand behind the ball. He desrved the penalty, but his behavior was nowhere near as egregious as is being described in this thread.
Wow.. you can't see it at real speed. But on the replay that is so obvious that he was trying to improve that situation as he took those two practice swings.. man that was smooth. I bet he has done that a hundred times.
Oops I didn’t know you couldn’t do that lol. Do it all the time😂
So do you mean to tell me that you cant use your foot wedge?

I'm surprised he didn't use a driver, then swap to a wedge.
"At this point you're thinking how can I make 5, well...give me a moment here"
He was in a wasteland and NOT in a bunker. He is allowed to ground his club in a wasteland. But...the rules do not permit him to improve his lie by shovelling away sand with his club behind the ball like he did at least twice. And believe me, he was very aware of that such an improvement is not allowed.
The only other person I've EVER seen move that much dirt was gold mining Legend Parker Schnabel using his Caterpillar D11T Dozer on "Gold Rush!!" 😅
I didn't think you could step away and take a practice swing either?? He should have just broke out the foot wedge like I do! LOL

@notformebeaky personal life has nothing to do with golf rules, thats their business
what about his practice swing in the bunker, USGA rule 12a -Touch the sand in a bunker with a club in making a practice swing, in grounding the club right in front of or behind the ball, or in making the backswing for a stroke.
It wasn't a bunker.
He really oversold that and then back plowed a path not once, but twice.
No one on the commentary seems to mention his practice swing a few yards to the left of the ball, where he hits the sand also - this isn’t allowed either?!
Under the rules, it is. It's not a bunker, it's a waste area.
The Albany course marks most of the sand not as bunkers, so the swing was legal.
improving the condition is never allowed in golf tournament history. Patrick Reed made more clear and deep mark line by cutting the sand to get better conditions to hit the ball precisely.
Same guy that had his adoptive parents and little sister escorted from a PGA tournament just because his wife doesn't like them .
Seriously? That's crazy. The man is a tool
He cheated in college is too. He's always been a cheater and a prick. He doesn't even speak to his own family. Which is probably good for them.
when someone is caught it sticks with them for life , i feel a tab sorry for the rich prick .
To his credit, both his dad and his wife are assholes as well. They were not invited to the wedding
IntoTheFray his wife wasn’t invited to the wedding..lol
Drew Hendley LOL! My bad. So apparently his dad threw an air fist at her. I wonder what she said for him to do that. I’m guessing she told Patrick that his parents wernt welcome at the wedding.
It’s a waste bunker. Different rules apply, you can lightly ground your club and of course move loose impediments around your ball.
@Logan Par He was in what is considered a waste bunker. By golf rules you may treat it as though you are in the fairway or rough; meaning you can take practice swings in it and make contact with the ground. However; what he did was purposely ground his club behind the ball and brushed sand backward intentionally in order to improve his lie. That is where he broke the rules. Had that been a normal greenside or fairway bunker you would be correct.
If any of you all knew anything about Golf, you’d understand that there’s a difference in a bunker and a collection area. In a collection area that is sand you can touch the sand with the club head during warm-up. If it’s a bunker you cannot.
If you knew a little bit more you would know that it is not allowed to remove sand in front of the ball in a waste area in order to improve your lie. He scraped away sand in front of the ball twice when testing to address it.
I was a quasi Reed fan for a while and bought all that crap abt the world including his family was against him. All that changed for me when he a) blatantly cheats and then b) plays the victim card.
U know, I first told myself it was probably an accident the first time. But a second time 😒 Reed should be penalized for the 2020 pga season. How many times has he done something similar but didn’t get caught?
“Appears to have improved the lie”. What.
Stating the bleeding obvious - he did it both times.
Not smart.
Three times. Tested the sand with the full swing!!!!
Brandel Chamblee's defense attorney presents this as his first piece of evidence. lol
He wasn't being careful with the club because he was in the waste area where it's ok to ground, but there is a penalty to improve the lie, and that decision stained his reputation. This wasn't the first time he did something illegal to improve his round, so he loses the benefit of the doubt.
Biggest golf cheat, EVER
Smoodgie got busted again. 0 respect for the guy.
That has to be the most egregious, poorly masked case of improving of the lie ever caught on camera. And the that it's by a Masters winner, just adds to how stubborn this will be in the annals of golf. Factor in, though also, that it is a particular player/masters winner with the personality/character narratives surrounding Patrick, and it is liable to dog him, this will, for the rest of his career. Like Fuzzy Zoeller's comment did.
He so shameless about it. He seriously does not care that he's now known for this. He's a known cheater.
Ban him for life. Worse than Pete Rose.
He's a cheat who did the same thing when he got booted of he's college team. He fell out with he's parents and no longer speaks to them just a nasty person.
What about when he takes a few steps away from the ball and takes his practice swing and hits the sand. Is that not also a penalty?
Kevin Cartledge it’s a waste bunker, he can do that. But he had to know he was moving sand away every time he brought his club back. It’s hard to believe a professional would do that. That’s something you do when your just playing for fun.
@@timstreitz4700 Thanks Tim. I didn't know you could do that.
He definitely knew Tim.. Should have called a penalty on himself. That’s what class act tour players do.
I too thought you couldn't ground your club in a bunker.
here's what google says: Waste areas are unmaintained areas of the course, and if you are in one you are allowed to ground your club. You can also take practice swings in the waste area. However, the action of grounding your club and taking practice swings must not improve conditions affecting your stroke (Rule 8.1)
He did it 6 times on this footage !
He 100% knew what he was doing - pretty bold and lame all at the same time. I see him differently now.
Even beginners know it. It's nothing to do with if Patrick knows it or not. The PGA needs to enforce the rules are applied to each players in the courses rather than monitored by their own caddie. Otherwise, Patrick can do it, Reed can do it, everyone can do it.
Why wasn’t the bunker raked in the first place?? What a crappy lie for a bunker shot in a professional match.
how to destroy your reputation forever. kids, NEVER, EVER do this.
Patrick Reed ...cheating !? Who would've ever thought!?
@ijcn0jir3nvjn3fjcifn What Mickelson did at U.S. Open wasn't remotely close to being the same . He did it out of frustration, knowing it would result in a penalty , and he did it for everyone to see .
@@j2martnz348 I agree with you. Phil bent a rule yes; but did it intentionally and didn't try to hide it. When the officials charged him with 2 strokes he simply said "thank you". Patrick Reed denies everything even though his intentions are clear as day.
@@Recon-cv1fe Exactly. Anyone who thinks the two are similar is pure idiocy ! One guy was sneaking , trying not to get caught, to gain an advantage . The other guy was having a terrible round , frustrated , and did something out of aggravation , in front of everyone, knowing it's resulting in a penalty.
Blatant cheating and he knows he's been caught, post round interview body language is obvious, and this isn't the first time he's been caught, should have been DQ'd and banned from the tour he's a disgrace!
You're a disgrace man what has this man done to deserve idiots like you over his back who can't play half as good golf as reed you're a joke kid
No wonder US can barely win the Ryder Cup 🤣
@@drewbacca2536 I'm surprised this guy isn't asking for a prison sentence such as life without parole.
No it is not obvious you nitwit. I have some life advice for you.
Lighten up.
Get laid.
Good luck.
@@PD-we8vf I have played golf for almost 60 years, you know when you've made a mistake no excuses, caddie right there saw it too, not the 1st time, life ban for cheats! As for giving me life advice you will never be qualified enough paddy!
I think he has perfected the "lie" with his game!!
I am a complete hacker, and I would have known my club moved sand from behind the ball. Part of the honour in golf is calling yourself on breaking the rules. He CLEARLY knew he did it. No way you can deny 2 sand shuffles. You are a PGA pro, your club is literally an extension of your arm at this point. If he would have called himself on it the first time, no harm done. 2 strokes and move on. But he tried to (literally) sweep it under the rug and that is CHEATING.
