- Hey everyone, this is Episode 2 of the 3.0T Tech Talk Series.
This series is where I strive to give you only accurate information about the 3.0T Supercharged V6. My C7 A6 didn't hit 10s in the 1/4 mile by accident so I want to make sure to pass on all that I know so that everyone who wants to optimize their setup can do so.
In this video I dive into ZF8 Transmission Tuning, why adjustments are needed, and why they are not to be overlooked.

I'm stage 1 IE 2014 A7. Just did the IE TCU tune for my ZF8 and it just pulls different and shifts so much different. The things you said make sense. My car would pull back to shift. It definitely feels healthier.

Very late to this, but this is a very informative video, I have an Audi A6 2014. 8 speed. 3.0T
Questions:
1) You may not know but I had a question with how upgrading a steering wheel would work. I have a 4 spoke, no paddle shifter, steering wheel, I know I don't need the paddles, but it's something I would honestly love. If I purchase A8L 4 spoke, (with paddles), would this be able to sync up to the transmission (as I don't have paddles and now would)
2) Do I need Twin tunes between my ECU& TCU (ex. both IE, both 034) I have heard of some pretty gnarly TCU tunes for these cars. Thanks!!
Hey I can't speak to that with accuracy. So I don't know.
It does help, the tcu tunes are matched to the ECU tune and how different tunes report torque, its best to have something properly matched together. The ZF8 is forgiving, it can have mismatched tunes but to be properly optimized, best to match them up.

these are all topics that I have come across in the past two months of ownership that I have done or learned about online through the forums - if you put them in video format you would get more clicks!

I have an early version of the A6 3.0T (2009) and will go stage 2.
Is the TCU tune available for my 2009 A6? I have the 6 speed tiptronic Quattro.
It's a shame our tiptronic transmissions are quite slow even in sport mode.
To my knowledge JHM offers a TCU tune for the ZF6 in your C6. I am unfortunately less versed in the C6 gen for parts/software availability
Hi Josh, after 3 years of being desperate, I understood that 8HP (AL551) can be adapted for higher torque. I had engine swap (CGQB->CVUB) due to burned piston and the new engine is from facelift, but I was promised it was 100% same. Well since then the E clutch adaptation always ends up at -700mbar and that causes slight jerk on 1-2 and 5-6. More pressure to avoid slipping, however damages the E clutch I guess. That engine is puttin out more torque as the TCU is expecting, or at least TCU thinks it is more torque, because the dyno says 570Nm anyway. I have the 8HP55 transmission, but will try to update the AL551 TCU with facelift 8HP70 tranny software to see if it helps or not :-/ No one was able to help me for years with this, you gave me hope! Thanks!
Wow! Yeah you're right it can be adapted and tuned for higher torque. Hopefully the 8HP70 software has what you need! I'm running the 034 tcu software and these tcu tunes run higher pressure than oem tcu tunes like the 8HP70 even. I'm glad I was able to give you hope, cheers!!!
Hey, I’ve been going down a similar hole, how exactly did you go about flashing facelift ZF8 software onto your prefacelift tcu?
Where are you from, which country? The FL TCU software did not help. It does not work without FL ECU and FL ECU does not work well regarding DPF burning despite remapping DPF sensor positions in ECU SW. There are just too many errors and using FL SW did not get rid of the transmission issues as well.
But I think i found the problem. Despite ZF in Czech doing complete rebuild of my transmission including mechatronics, they may have changed all parts of mechatronic, however they did not drill the valve tunnel wider and replaced with oversized valve as here in this video: ua-cam.com/video/ZuuHN6lvEEA/v-deo.htmlsi=LOUc5eKFPUUDR0dN&t=165
I think that is the exact reason of the ATF fluid pressure leak and jerking of 1-2 and 5-6 shifting.
However I had not have it done yet, because I don't know about company, which would do this close to Bratislava.

Hi Josh, just ran into this video and interested in a tune, however I was made to believe the 8ZF transmission wasn’t tunable, I currently run an APR Stage 1 file and wondering if ( from what you said) if I’ll have to switch vendors or will APR offer the ZF tune eventually
Hey! The ZF8 is indeed very tunable and requiring tuning when increasing engine performance. I haven't seen APR offer a tune yet for the ZF8. They like to advertise that it's not needed in their literature so I wouldn't think they would offer one.
So are you still on the melen tcu tune or 034 tcu tune... which do you like better or which is working better/ another for you?
I have been running the 034 tcu all of 2022 now. Its been working really well for me :)
