bro dont fall for that patina crap. If you want to paint it, youll have a lot of naysayers but just do what you want with the truck tbh. I get my cars painted black, had everyone of the professionals tell me it was a bad idea. Comes out great every time

It just doesn’t make any sense to me that people are such pessimists sometimes. In my opinion if you want to try and learn new things then bravo. I’ve always loved turning wrenches just as a hobby and I see absolutely nothing wrong with wanting to do things yourself. Keep up the good work

That's a real nice truck and I can tell that you're a perfectionist . If you leave it unpainted that's exactly what it's gonna look like "an unpainted truck". The best time to repaint it is before you replace the bed. You do what you want to do and don't worry about others. I love these videos!

What I did when installing the new Bilstein B6 4600 shocks on my truck, was I jacked up the frame on the side I was installing on and the bolt holes lined up perfectly. No compressing of the new shocks needed. Then I cut the strap after installed.

Hey man. Much respect to you. I have been following along and plan on continuing to follow along. It shows a lot about your character that you are taking these vehicles that were special to your dad and grandpa and restoring them and eventually driving them. Keep up the good work brother. From a point of view, all of it can be fun, even when it's not easily fix you end up with a story to share. I love hunting in junk yards and back fields for parts. I go to a lot of car shows and cruises in my area and run into people who like to find the every defect, but I know it was by my hands working on it that got it there. A lot of people who look for the defects paid so one else to do the work, that's okay, there is room for everybody. Cut the strap and aim the shock for the bottom bracket. If you miss, you still have a floor jack to compress it if you can not do it by hand.

Good work on getting the shocks installed. You could have jacked up the rear to get the wheels off the ground some and you might not have had to compress the shock to get it to fit on the top mount. As the paint, I am having the same internal argument with myself over my Stang. I think it is really a null point for me. The wife wants it painted. So I am sure she will win. Anyway it is your truck, do with it what you want. You are the one that has to live with and drive it.

  • @bdon42

Paint it brother ! It’s your truck if the nay sayers don’t like it tough. Your grandpa would love it I’ll bet if it was looking like new, the same thing with the mustang it would look awesome painted. At the end of of the day it only maters what you think of your vehicles so let those haters hate and keep putting out great vids. I’ll still be here watching them.

It's your truck, if you want to paint it, then paint it!
Next time you have trouble compressing the shocks. Try putting a jack under the rear bumper or on the frame some where. And jack it up and let the suspension droop. You may need to use some wood blocks or something else ( Between the jack and the bumper ) . if your jack doesn't go high enough. That will make it a little easier.
And you should really put some anti-seize on the bolts/studs when working on the suspension parts. It will make it so much easier to remove in the future. Other wise the bolts can rust and get stuck in the bushings/sleeves.
And before you put the bed back on make sure to paint the underside of the box where it sits on the frame ( where the body mounting bolts go thru. And put anti-seize on the bolts!

When I did the shocks on my F150, I used a jack under the frame to lift the frame enough to fit the new shock in place. I didn't get the Bilsteins, I just got the cheap Monroes. But the Monroes are yellow too. I love seeing nice new yellow shocks under a vehicle.

I'd paint the truck if it was mine. "Patina" is unsightly. The only vehicles where patina is acceptable is a clapped out rat rod where shiny paint would look out of place. People that like Patina probably also got participation trophy's as a kid. Keep up the good work!
