      Im printing with a small cheap lcd printer and it can get great resolution because its part of the resing process. Printing with layer heights of 0.05 you can hardly miss anything at all. Theres also a thing called " design for 3d printing" which are basically guidelines for any 3dp tech eithe fdm, resin, sls, dmls etc. On top of that most people will simply paint them, all the micro detaills will be "erased" and become just a texture.

    The other major consideration is light bleed. Even if you made a 20k screen at a small size, it still wouldn't be able to actually resolve that resolution.
    This is where people need to understand that the printers us mere mortals buy are not SLA, they're MSLA. Masked Stereo Lithography. True SLA printers, the ones for industry use that cost many thousands, use lasers instead of a screen. The laser can actually get the light right onto the desired spot with little to know bleed, so they can resolve really high resolutions.
    DLP printers are the middle ground here. They use a projector and mirror matrix to focus light allowing for pinpoint accuracy. The main issue holding them back is that Texas Instruments is essentially the sole manufacturer of mirror matrices. This means low production volume and high cost. The most common use of DLP setups right now is actually in movie projects, and this is where all of the higher resolution ones are being sent. This means that the only two enthusiast grade DLP printers are using 2k DLP mirror units. Hopefully we'll get a 4k or 8k unit in the future, as it is just a flat out superior technology to LCD, other than cost wise.
    DLP and SLA also tend to be compatible with a wider array of materials than MSLA as they don't need to combat light bleed. Not having to worry about bleed means they can more fully cure any individual pixel, where cranking up the exposure time or intensity on an MSLA printer will increase bleed and result in a blurry image.

    • @FauxHammer

      8k printer does not mean that at all.
      8k printer only means the resolution is "7680 × 4320" or there abouts.
      And are you suggesting that 8k means MSLA printers are on par with SLA printers? becasue they really aren't even close. Hardly anyone in the consumer space has ever even seen an SLA printer in the flesh, never mind use one.
      SLA are printers using UV lasers, M-LSA is an LCD printer, like these 8k ones.

    @ChrisR2020 Місяць тому

    I mean, it does still matter, simply because obviously a 10 inch screen that is 8k will ha e more pixels than a 10 inch 4k screen.
    It only really means that you have to also consider the dimensions of the screen along side the resolution, which you should do anyway.
    Like if you want to print mini figures, that are only about 1 inch in diameter, you probably want a smaller screen if you are after high resolution, but if you instead aren't as concerned about resolution, and need high production volume, then you probably actually want a larger screen with a higher resolution to match closer to the lower resolution on the smaller screen with the ability to print more figures at once.
    Like, sure, you can print a pretty nice figure on a 4k screen that is 5 inches wide, but you can really only print what, like maybe 10 figures in a single run on that? Alternatively, get a 10 inch screen at 8k, govomg you the same pixels per inch, and print considerably more per run.

    Really wish they'd just lead with PPI instead of resolution in the first place.

    Beautiful prints. If only resin wasn't such a mess to work with i would totally get one. Till i build a 3d printer area in the garage or heated shed i won't be getting one. Don't want to mess up my carpet or have resin around the children.

    @fauxhammer - it's really simple... if there are two screens - one 4k and one 8k and they are both the same physical size, then the 4k screen will yield 2x blockier prints at the same size as the 8k screen will.
    You are missing the whole point.

    We already have a unit for communicating pixel size and is the pixel density, I don't agree that is in flicking inches, but ppp is way better than counting microns

      ok, carry on doing that if you like, while the whole resin printer industry uses Pixel Size.

    -What 3D printer do you prefere the most?

    • @FauxHammer
      @FauxHammer  Рік тому +2

      It's not a quick answer, i have to many to review to "enjoy" them, saying that... I do like the 10" 28.5 micron printers because of the quality and build plate balance.
      I have a comparison vid coming out in 2 weeks

      Any 3D RESIN printer should give you highly detailed, ultra smooth prints. Unless you prefer a rougher looking product then get yourself a FILAMENT printer. Your finished pieces are guaranteed to look like splintered, rough cut lumber milled with a dull chainsaw then fermented in an elephant's a**hole, everytime!

  • @EDreyer

      I've been saying this for a couple years. Phrozen has a resin called 8k and one called 4k. Use the 8k resin on their mega 8k printer and the 4k on their mini 4k printer, guess what, the smaller printer gives finer detail. It's a total nonsense.
