I agree with keeping hush on where you source, but Goodwill is a CHARITABLE organization that sells 2nd hand to support community programs, job training, etc.--they are already doing what they do. Just because someone flips what they purchase there is NOT their business. It's like a real estate agency going, "oh you're going to buy this house to fix it up, sell and make a profit? Then we'll have to double our asking price!". It just makes no sense. Stay in your own lane, Goodwill.

You’re spot on with the gas prices. I used to dispatch fuel trucks and I also purchased over a million gallons of gas a month for the company and our wholesale customers. One thing is supply and demand and second thing is OPEC. I watched the stock market and the slightest rumor can cause a fluctuation. I dispatched through hurricanes and 9/11. Your advice about people posted where they source is spot on too. I sourced one time in St. Louis Mo. and I couldn’t believe their prices. It was like TJ Max prices, anyway I found a decent name brand pair is shoes and they were like $17 with 50% off after I paid I asked them to take off the anti theft device and they had a puncture mark from the anti theft device, I told her no I want a refund they’re damaged well I kinda went all Karen on her and told her to call the manager, she told me the manager was on break so I saw a worker outside smoking and I marched out there and asked are you the manager and so I explained what happened and she refunded me. Good thing cause I would have left those shoes and opened up a credit card dispute. I think that bullshit. AITAH

Although I agree to keep your sources private, I can’t help but question why Goodwill feels the need to gouge customers for items they receive for free? This sounds more like greed than a reseller problem. If a customer pays what the store is asking for the item, why do they care what the customer does with it? In fact, if they lowered their prices, they would probably sell more. People donate it and benefit from a tax deduction, resellers buy it which makes the store money (hence the community they support money) and the reseller makes money. Win Win!

I’ve always found it odd and slightly annoying that so many people on social media would tag the thrift store. Not just once but twice, on the caption and then the pic. I assumed it’s for exposure if they’re tagging them in the actual pic since it can show up in the companies IG page of tagged photos. Either way it makes no sense to me. If you’re gonna boast about the low price and what you can flip it for why tag the place who sold it to you for cheap. No one does that if they source off poshmark or online arbitrage. It’s like begging for the stores attention after so many times and they then turn around and say it doesn’t affect anything and it’s crazy to think places would raise prices. I will say where I live in Central FL the two main GW thrifts I frequent have very nice employees and I remember back when they raised their prices and it has nothing to do with resellers. I was talking with a few of the managers and I didn’t even ask, they brought up how crappy it is they’re being forced to up prices for our region (goodwills work in regions and that’s why pricing structure and others factors can drastically differ all over the country) the main manager had openly said her higher ups and corporate were starting to roll out price increases because of inflation last year. Because of wage increases, and a main part due to general increases of everyday costs of supplies to run & maintain a brick and mortar store (supply chain products everything you could think that gets purchased to put into stores from employee materials to receipt tape etc) our region hadn’t done any price increases for almost 6 years. Other than certain outliers such as an obvious “premium” brand. They straight up said the main factor for why the jump in pricing happened mid 2021 was economically having inflation soar through the roof in all categories. Obviously it’s not the only reason and yes I think in a lot of places resellers are a part of it, but it depends on the thrift stores, their corporate structure and mainly how their region structures/functions and who is in charge over particular locations. Also who is doing the pricing day by day. I notice such drastic differences in prices & the one guys said yeah because a lot of employees could care less about marking up to the max and will just price at the bare min of what the increases are. So by that he means the new cost of women’s pants, it used to be $4.19 and now is $9.99 as the minimum but could go as high as someone wanted to price them at so occasionally I’ll see a bunch priced at $11.99-$15.99 but for the most part they’re all typically $9.99 and it’s because (his words not mine) most of their employees in that store don’t care about trying to jack the price up any higher based on brand and just want to price at the set minimum to quickly move onto the next item. They all think it’s stupid too because now so much more sits until it’s color reaches the half off day because the avg person shopping their doesn’t want to pay the prices increases on some of this stuff and can get it at Ross new for a few bucks more. The benefit to resellers is we take hidden gems and make them available to millions of possible customers online who are searching for something specific that they otherwise wouldn’t find on their own. Idk the whole thing is crappy all around. I’ve had to adjust my mindset in the last 8-10 months to be okay leaving so many good things behind because the time to profit ratio just isn’t worth it with certain things anymore. It is what it is and will always continue to fluctuate as that’s how economies and cost of goods works 🤷🏼‍♀️

It’s funny. I remember a time that to suggest to resellers to stop tagging thrift stores in their posts would be enough to have people cussing you out and talking about your momma in the comments. It never made sense to me to tell businesses that you’re sourcing their inventory and making 10 times the money on it. Why would you do that? You have people on posh that have complained about people buying their items and flipping for more money. 😆🤷🏾‍♀️

As an ex Goodwill employee who has talked to many stores in my district, I'm sorry but the main people Goodwill is trying to help are the truly poor and needy. Not the people trying to set up a side business.
Yes, we get it for free. But you don't understand that for every one good item, we're sorting through 20 wet pairs of jeans, a piano with three legs, 4 broken furniture sets, bags of literal trash we have to process and a baby potty filled with baby poop. That last one is not just a dramatic flair..
When I work there we paid in the neighborhood of $36,000 a month just to dispose of the useless crap you guys donate

The couple you're referring to might not want to exactly tell where they live for security reasons, the way we use poboxes or other addresses in our return labels... I agree with you, their content got boring after a while because of how condescending they became with their toxic positivity... I learned how to clean shoes with them though...

my thoughts about this are: that thrift stores should not be caring who is in their stores or who is buying their merchandise. I agree whole heartedly that people are becoming too open even in the thrift stores people are yelling in groups about reselling . In my head im like shut up. I think the reason that these youtubers are sharing everything and anything is because they get enough likes to get paid by youtube by views on these and it makes of for their loss of business and yet it really hurts us that dont care to make youtube videos. Plus now they have paid thank yous on top of that which helps them buy more expensive items. I really hate that people in thrift stores just dont keep their mouthes shut and I wish everyone would just thrift and mind their business.

The only time I tag a store is if it's privately owned and I have more of a business relationship with the owner. A great example is the Uptown Cheapskate in my area. The owner is awesome and loves that I am a reseller. He appreciates that I promote his store, has invited me to film, etc. I am confident he will not increase prices because of me because he appreciates when I buy high volume. Otherwise, I would never tag a Goodwill, Salvation Army, etc. Not a great idea at all. I fully agree and this very sound advice to share with the community!

For real, I’ve been shopping at goodwill since 2011 and in my area it’s like mall prices, like no! Plus they grab all the decent items and put them upfront as ‘handpicked’- meaning no color discount. It’s impossible to make a profit from there anymore
