    I have watched several of these types of videos. I like you the best. You keep it simple, and you walk thru each step in order to make the table. Thanks. I am about to start doing many design tables where I work and this is a big help. I owe you a cup of coffee.

    Very helpful documentation of how to use design tables. I really appreciate it that you did not automatically create the design table but that you showed how the design table is connected to the parts. As a result, I am able to go in and add new design table items and change the ones that I have. Very nice.

    how to configure the direction of helix or spiral from clockwise to counterclockwise or vice versa in configuration table or design table?

    Just want people to know that @8:31 you dont just click on it, you need to DOUBLE CLICK the dimension to add it to the table and make sure the cell B2 is selected woont work other wise, got me scratching my head for an hour, anyways really helpful video!

    Hey Ryan. Geat tutorial. Although, I'm a little surprised that you decided to create the Design Table from a blank spreadsheet rather than auto-creating the design table with the chosen dimensions. Is there any particular reason you did that?

    • @ryanweber153
      @ryanweber153  3 роки тому +2

      Thanks for the comment. No, there really isn't a reason other than if Auto-Create doesn't work than you'll need to know how to start from a Blank table. It really comes down to how many dimensions you need to control. If Auto inserts 20 dimensions and you only need to control 3 than you would be better off starting from a Blank table. Thanks for watching.

    Can you utilize Equations within design tables? For example if I have modeled a component with specified equations , is there a way for my to keep and edit them within the design table across multiple configs?

    • @ricardobaila8959
      @ricardobaila8959 2 роки тому

      I am guessing that you can do so afterwards. after setting different configurations, it makes sense that you should be able to do equation defined dimensions, as described in this channel's other video about it ua-cam.com/video/GdfhS5Md5wk/v-deo.html

    Ryan how do I call each instance to different assembly? Will they work just like a regular assembly?

    • @ryanweber153
      @ryanweber153  3 роки тому

      Thanks for the comment. Yes, the part works the same in the assembly, the only difference is to look for a box that will let you choose which configuration to insert. It's in the Insert Component command or you can access it after inserting the component by clicking on the component and selecting a different configuration from the list that appears.

    I presume this sort of supersedes the normal equation editor - or is there any useful way to use the two together?

    • @ryanweber153
      @ryanweber153  3 роки тому

      Thanks for the comment. You can use equations along with design tables. In fact, I encourage the use of equations when appropriate. I find some people prefer one method versus another, so this is another option that is available.

    • @ryanweber153
      @ryanweber153  3 роки тому

      The only time that I have experienced this is when the name of the first configuration was not in cell A3 in Excel. As long as the first configuration is in A3, the next one in A4, and so on without an empty cell in between, SolidWorks should create the list of configurations. The only other thought I have is possibly an invalid character. I don't think slashes (/) can be used in the configuration name, so you might try a different configuration name.

    7:02 "It's opening Excel inside itself"
    well, that's kinda good. But equally bad at same time if excel is a REQUIREMENT rather than a choice. That is, if other spreadsheet softwares like LibreOffice Calc is not supported.

    • @ryanweber153
      @ryanweber153  3 роки тому +1

      Thanks for the comment. For an assembly with configurations, you type in cell B2 $configuration@partname (match the part name from the Design Tree) then type the name of the configuration in cell B3. Continue to do this in cell C2, D2, etc. for however many components you have in the assembly that have configurations.

    • @ryanweber153
      @ryanweber153  3 роки тому

      Hey Rahul! Thanks for the comment. I'm probably not going to be much help on this. I've had mixed experiences with design tables, but I've always been able to get them to do what I wanted to do. Sometimes the feature dimensions are "hidden" inside the model, so I have to move my cursor around until the dimension is highlighted then click and drag it to open space. After that open the design table, click on the cell where you want it, and click on the dimension. I hope this helps.
