    I've used Design Tables for years, and when the configuration table showed up, took a look but set it aside as not being able to use equations as you can in a Design Table. This semester I am teaching on Zoom and a number of students didn't have Excel installed and for various reasons weren't able to. So I went back to the Configuration Table and realized that I could do most of what I wanted to by setting global variables equal to specific dimensions and then use them in other dimensions as equations without having to type in dimension names. Works well enough that I think I am going to stop using Design Tables since they only work with Excel and they are so easy to close accidentally.

    hello, thank you so much, this example you are explaining, helps me to be able to work with so many tools you mention in just one video. You answered so many questions I had now I'm using again SW after 3 years of not practicing it. Greetings from Mexico

    Hello Daniel, I passed CSWP last week by watching your videos and following your methods. Thanks for a great teaching. I saw some comments regarding your voice issue. Hope that is ok now. God bless you. Stay healthy. Merry Xmas and Happy new year.

    There is a glitch or change of behavior in Configuration Tables for SolidWorks 2022. The table doesn't display the parameters used to create configurations when saved and reopened. This short video shows you how to correct that.

      You are very welcome. I'm still surprised at how many other people respond to videos I made for my students. I'm glad I decided to make them public, which I did to make them available to students after they graduate. I had no idea they would attract subscribers.

      I may have a few reasons as to why this might be the case.
      1.) You have a depth understanding of the program. Not only from a teacher’s perspective but also from student’s.
      2.) SolidWorks is popular.
      3.) You are clear and straight to the point.
      Looking forward to learning more from your videos (not just SolidWorks material).

    i have an exam on a bolt and nut and the first we have to do equation drive table and the second we do table drive method. i need to practice for it. any video on that?

    Thank you so much for sharing this. I wonder how to deal with the 2D-drawing by using configuration tables.

      I am not sure if I understand your question, but the tables create multiple new configurations. When you insert a part with multiple configurations, you can select the one you want in the assembly file where it is used (and you can change it's properties any time). That's the one that will be used in the drawing file.

    Hello Dan. I created a spur gear that updates very similar to your nut. However, I am not able to click the global variable I need to control the desired values for each config. I think it is because it is not a dimension or feature. I defined these global variables (Module, Number of Teeth, Pressure Angle) and then have the dimensions on the sketch change (Pitch dia, root dia, etc) as they are defined as "Module"* "Number of Teeth" etc. Do you know how to get around setting up different configurations of the gear if I can't select the global variable to put it in the table to control for each configuration? Any tips are appreciated.

      Sorry not to get back to you sooner. I have to try this, but at one time you couldn't use global variables directly for extrusion distance or fillet sizes, but you could replace an existing size by showing annotation and changing the dimensions there. You might try that with the number of teeth and see if that works. I will see if I get a chance to tackle it at some point as well.

    Hi, I am facing problem in equation when I go to change my equations, they dont update the part and rebuild. I have checked the automaticly rebuild box but they still don't change in the model, as shown by the same mass properties.

      For the equations in this video, I used global variables. When you use a global variable in any situation in SolidWorks, you must either select it from a drop-down list, or type it with quotes around it. It is possible that you entered variables a and b without quotes. When you do that, it is interpreted by SolidWorks as meaning you want to use the current value, but you don't want the result to change if the variable value is changed. Check to see that you have quotes around the letters used for global variables.

    • @DanAbbott-SMCC
      @DanAbbott-SMCC  2 роки тому

      That's true, especially when you use a text file to define variables externally, but in his case the part usually rebuilds without being forced, so I think he probably did just enter a variable name from what he described.
