I do the same thing but when I change the configuration of one part, the configuration of the second part is automatically converted to the selected configuration and I end with two parts of the same configuration.
thanks for the above video. but could you please show the same in creo. i use solidworks and want to switch to creo parametric. in solidworks we use cofigurations to show the working of the machine stepwise for demonstration purpose. i want to learn how can i show the same using creo parametric

Yes, that should be possible. You should be able to control it by manipulating the suppression state of the subassembly across different configurations. It should be a right-click on the feature tree and select something similar to "configure feature" from the context-menu.
That one little click at 5:20, so easy to miss, is the key to the whole thing!
