Honest report. I drive my Defender as my daily in Sweden. It is not always the fastest or most comfortable means of transport, but it has so much character that I wouldn’t change it for any other vehicle
Lovely Jubbly, there is something very special about this presenter, you can always see the passion in the words and the expression on her face with every car review she does.
I’ve had my Defender for 9 months, I love it, far from perfect, I could have bought a very nice Porsche for the same price, but it’s not about speed and comfort, it’s the feeling you are driving an icon. I’ve found that a lot of people have much to say about how crap Defenders are, but they don’t seem to have ever owned one.
Thank you Robert , so true. it's like people telling me about some countries ( Bolivia, El Salvador, etc.) I've traveled to, "it's bad, you're going to get your head chopped off". Meanwhile they have never had a passport, lol. BTW I've owned several 911's and have a 2004 911 C4S as well as my Series Land Rover, Cheers!
I’ve loved mine 8years, longest I’ve kept a vehicle. I’m going to have her adopted, soon, maybe if I can bare it.My other 4x4 is a tortoise. For the record I’m female.
Having a defender is like owning an old pair of doctor martins, they look terrible they hurt your feet and you look like a tramp but at the end of the day you wear them to stand out from the rest but deep down inside when you see a new comfy pair of nike trainers your gutted deep down inside 😂
I use mine every day (or rather, I did before lockdown) - it's my only car and has been for 11 years and about 130,000 largely trouble-free miles. Yet to find anything it can't do in real-world daily driving (so ignoring acceleration figures and top speeds over the national legal limit) that conventional modern cars can, except fit in a multi-storey car park as I have roof bars, but there aren't any of those where I live, while there are plenty of things it can do better than they can (carry 9 people, keep going when the road runs out or is hidden under snow, mud or floodwater, load up with logs etc, fit three mountain bikes, their riders and all their stuff inside, make me smile...). Mine is a slightly newer Td5 version which I find smooth, comfortable and easy to drive including longer motorway and trunk road runs between Inverness and Cornwall a couple of times a year. Land Rover changed the wiper arm fitment from the sprung push-on design on the Tdis to a threaded spindle and retaining nut on later models so they're a bit less likely to drop off. I had one drop off a Tdi once years ago during a Passplus driving test in the middle lane of the M4 during a thunderstorm. Made for an interesting few moments!
Beautifully presented, you're clearly very much in love! I bought my current Defender thirty years ago... 200,000 miles later and it's still going strong. A true Land Rover has character, quickly becoming part of the family. Sadly, I'm not convinced the new generation will achieve such popularity amongst the purist..
Not impressed the with the purist or their opinions, lol. Same thing happened when Porsche went from "Air Cooled" to water cooled. Now they all the purist are talking about how great the new twin turbo water cooled 2020 911 is. lol.
Bernard Barbour my 1987 Porsche Turbo was amazing to drive. Maintenance was a pain. Driving in traffic with a 4 speed manual transmission sucks. It barely had A/C.
@@bernardbarbour give it another 20 years for the new one to age and lets see which ones are still working. LCD screens only have a finite life before stuff like backlight eventually fails. Lot of computers and integrated circuits which probably won’t be being made in 20 years either.
Had a defender for 8yrs absolutely loved it, like part of the family. Had to sell it due to my ex wife not like driving it. My daughter always says how she misses ' Daktari'. Thanks for the cool video. Great memories
And have you learned from that? The next time you better sell the wife instead of the car. Does not get you a lot of money but will save you a lot of trouble. 😎
We used Defenders in the Falklands. Discovered you can still drive them after one of the front wheels has unbolted itself due to mud drying out around the wheel nuts from a bodged wheel change.
pmailkeey no.....the circular holes in the steel wheel became elliptical as the nut worked loose - had to be replaced by a new steel wheel. Once we figured that out we could avoid it happening by cleaning mud off the wheel before we replaced the wheel nuts....there are no tarmac roads in the Falklands.
What a clear and precise presentation. I'm really impressed with your oration. No notes or cue cards. Well done Rebecca, you obviously love your Landy.
I went on a 4WD course in Australia. Heaps of Disco sports, Discos and a couple of Range Rover Sports. But some Aussie had a bad arse black Defender and that was the most popular car on the trail. All the Landy's were amazing off road but once Disco got a flat and one sport had some trim ripped off by the bush we drove through. The Defender was like the gang leader lol.
Still have my '06 110 DCPU, the one car I'll never part with. Others have come and gone, but that thing has earned it's place working the land. Even used it as a daily driver for a while, always getting looks from bystanders and waves from other landie owners. There is something special about getting in and taking it for a ride, even to this day.
I have a 1992 200tdi 90, been my everyday car for 22 years, it was and still is my dream car. Coming up on 300,000 miles on the clock and still going strong. Looks scabby and old draws very little attention, steel wheels, no snorkel, no lift kit, no fancy spot lights, just a bog standard defender, I wouldn’t have it any other way externally. Lots of sound proofing mats on the inside. Exmoor trim tracker high back seats in the front “wolf” bench seats in the back. I still smile every time I get in and drive it.
When u talked about Defender bumping, A pickup truck jumped into my mind, I had a strong feel it’s not available in the Europe continental, but some young drivers love it at Arabian peninsula, Toyota Land Cruiser pickup looks very vintage , not Tundra not HiLux. Not capable in floods, but frenzy in desserts. Maybe disconnected this 2020 year but was available at 2018 & 2019.
Ohhhh, amazing video... your feeling about a legend is incredible.... I love my Def 110 tdi also and in the future, when I will can not drive anymore, it will stay to my sons... congrats from Brazil!
Tip from my time in the Australian Army in the 70's - soak the entire car in WD40 once a year, warm the engine spray everywhere and leave at least overnight. Never had an electrical issue no matter how many deep water crossings I did. Other benefit is a big reduction in rusted in/on bolts and fittings when you need to repair things.
I drive anything and everything from landcruisers to e class mercs but my favourite vehicle is my old defender, had a td5 for years and have a 07 puma for about 4 years. Great on the farm and costs nothing to keep running. Cheap to fix. Preferred the td5, but the puma is luxury, a heater and a light clutch. Cost neutral, they hold their money better than gold and have appreciated in recent years. Suppose you wouldnt take 5 grand for that one of yours rebecca 😁.
What a smashing presenter, clearly loves her Land Rover, had several Land Rovers and Range Rovers over the years, only one let me down when out with a seized diff which I replaced myself on the drive!!!Easy to work on and all were reliable.

She returns 33 mpg Driving across country from Thame to Kington and steers better than our Range Rover & Discovery the same age. I have just replaced the BFG tyres designed for serious off road use with new tyres giving a very comfortable on road ride. £240 for 4 tyres delivered in 3 days which I fitted myself then had them balanced... D110 now rides better than our other Land Rovers... I like the 200 Tdi because if she breaks down & I cant's fix it she goes home by a rescue service...
I sold my 1984 90 a few years back and miss it. Looking at replacing it as I'm so bored with new cars. By the way, if the oil leaks stop, just add in more oil. It lets you know your oil level automatically 🤣
I sold my 1985 90 back in 2009, don't miss it one bit - cost me a small fortune to fix up after being neglected & even after a 200Tdi conversion was unreliable so I got rid.
We import all of our Defenders here, as long as they ae 25 years and older they don't have to meet DOT or EPA. i just imported one and a friend just drove one up from Belize. Cheers!

Love this video.. I learned how to drive for the first time when I was 12 years old (now I’m 46) in my father’s 1975 Series 3. After that one, my father had a 1980 Series 3 and a 1992 Defender 110 TDi (just like yours). So, Land Rover has been in my family blood for life. Now, I own a 1979 Series 3 (3 door wagon) and a 2014 Defender 110 (5 door wagon). Please, make another video about you and your family overlanding in your Defender..
I have had land rovers for many years , but I have to say Land Rover need a good kick up the back side for oil leaks especially the transfer box. I wonder what this new defender will be like after a few years.
Drove two Audi Q7s for 6 years, but nothing makes me as happy as driving my 2013 Defender 110, sorry. And after a $10K repair on my Q7, injectors and fuel system, never again. Our Defender is now our primary car.
@@raymondallo9947 When modern diesels go wrong not cheap to fix got to keep on top of the maintenance and avoid bad fuel a killer for high pressure common rail systems.
travelled in one; a Wrangler is compromised (owned an unlimited at one point) but the Defender is compromised to another level not surprised its not an every day driver. The main thing however is the freedom it offers.
good luck with it, but watch out for rusting chassis and rusty bulkheads loads of oil leaks and dont forget to change the timing belt.they are ok when new, keep away from the puma, its got too much electrical bits and pieces, and hard to work on as the engine is crammed in it. we had 3 of them, come back series 2a ! my first vehicle in 1969
my dream vehicle , my mates had one a few years now and i'm so jealous , i drove one in Zambia many moons ago and fell in love with it :) , that one of yours is just gonna go up in value too ;)
Nice to see. Currently doing up my 110 double cab on my channel. I am transofrming it from a basic poverty spec to top off the range with AC and leather seats etc. Mine does everything I need it to. Currently missing it while i am doing it up must be said.
i like your defender. i wish i could get one here in the USA. but its difficult. but i will settle for a jeep wrangler. maybe i can find a defender later. but your defender is awesome .
Ten people downvoted this?? What's up lads - feeling just a wee bit insecure? That not only is the presenter of a CAR VIDEO a female, but she's also damn good at it too? Tsk, tsk, tsk boys - it's 2020: you need to grow up!
I'm so jealous...Defenders run upwards of 100,000 dollars in the U.S, and they're almost impossible to find since they were limited production, luckily in florida they are quite common but when ever one goes up for sale it's about as much as a house...
I know they are cheap overseas, but they are collector's items in the U.S. Cheapest one i seen was 17,000 and it sold like an hour after it was posted, it didn't even run
The Defender like all Land Rovers before it is slow, thirsty, uncomfortable, water leaks everywhere, agricultural, less than reliable but absolutely bloody marvellous 👍🏻
Too bad. I just checked Autotrader on the prices for LRD. Most go for $50,000+. Thing is, the new Ford Bronco is coming out. Looks to be a modern version of the LRD. But it's new and modern, and comes with a warrenty...
thought I would be watching a video about a woman who bought a new LR (I wont call those Defenders- Defenders ended in 2016) but it is a real Defender - do you use it as a DD ? a lot of people have a tough time with them as a DD - if they dont have automatic gear boxes - a/c cruise control etc - especially if they have to drive into the city
Love the 'old' classic Land rovers - owned. FC101, 90, Dico 2/3 and Range Rover - but currently nothing that Land Rover makes including the new school run Chelsea tractor or NEW Defender (shudder) interests me, they are not a full all-round 4x4 product now but aimed at the on-road users. What does interest me at the moment is the proposed Ineos Grenadier - that is what the new Defender should have been !
Congratulations on your Twins; no idea you have been pregnant. Please take them on tests just like Everyday Reviews from Canada. Gives such a warm vibe in a review. Love that you share your privately owned land rover. 👏
I purposely bought one without electric windows lol, so i see that as a plus. My mum has electric windows in her's and they just go wrong all the time.
brand new? you dont know that production stopped in january 2016 for the landy defender? i hope you have a secure garage to store it in because they are getting stolen left right and centre.
When you buy a Land Rover, it hard to go back! It's personal, warts and all. Nothing really compares to a LR. Despite all the talk of breaking down, people still buy them in their thousands. Mine have been very good, no issues, what else would I have?
I get it. As you can see from my icon, I live the life and love to drive it. A right hand drive in the US? No issue...one drive...second nature (though I still go to the left door at times.) You can't be shy and drive one....who can resist a Defender?
Great video Rebecca. I also love my defender and are fully rebuilding her on my channel. I loved your review of the Ranger Raptor.. so much so that I went out and bought one!!
Awesome video Many thanks, on Real Landies you and the twins will have loads of fun and they will have the best motoring start in life the smile and the Defender "Family" is global!
I've had a series III for 25 years and it's the worst car I have ever owned, but I still have it. It leaks, the fuel economy is atrocious, the heating is laughable, the door seals are non existent, it steers like like a pissed off cow, the brakes work only if you pray and scream whilst standing on the brake pedal and white knuckled around the steering wheel, it leaks oil and coolant at every opportunity and the paint was put on by a blind man yielding a bog brush with sh1t still stuck to it. But I love it, nobody would understand why unless they owned one. It has real character and you can not help falling in love with them. You can off road them aggressively until they break but they still manage to get you home, my friend drove his on 3 cylinders for 6 months after hydrolocking his engine whilst water wading because he didn't have time to sort it out, and only repaired it because it used more oil than fuel at the time. Each one has a personality of it's own like a dog and as such you love it for its faults and its positives. It sounds strange but unless you've owned one it's hard to explain.
Great video and I understand completely! Fantastic car and if I were you it would be driven until the wheels fell off. Thanks for sharing this car and the video, Cheers!
I guess the real question would be, why WOULDN’T you buy a Defender? ♥️❤️ Gotta love that work horse ♥️❤️ “It didn’t break down, bits just fell off” that’s the Defender owners mantra, along with “oil leak? It’s a security feature mate. If robbed, or when robbed should I say, you just follow the drops” 🤣😂
Love your video everything you said is how I feel about my defender yes you get leeks and other problems. But that’s all part of owning a defender sometimes I just have to stand and just look at it she just fascinates me it is such a pleasure to own her .I hope to keep her for years to come I’ve. Ihad people ask me if I want to sell her but the answer is always the same you must be joking
Very nice Rebecca. I'm happy to hear that you have twins. If I had my way you/others would be allowed to drive your older vehicles through London without paying road tax as you are not polluting the air given there age.
Wow!! I didn’t know you guys are not allowed to take your old car (the one with higher emission) in low emission zones like London. Did you mean no car in London are old enough to violate emission norms? What happened to all those old cars? Did the government gave the owners heavy subsidy to purchase a new car that met emission norms? This is very interesting and so nice. I think every country should implement this rule especially country like ours and in cities like New Delhi.
Rather oddly when cars become 40-years-old they are exempt and don't have to pay www.classiccarsforsale.co.uk/blog/market-trends/historic-cars-win-exemption-in-ultra-low-emission-zone#:~:text=All%20vehicles%20that%20have%20a,to%20go%20ahead%20as%20usual.

Drove one for a week was more then happy to get back into my Audi A6, enjoyed the video!
Some people never learn.
Yay an Audi A6
Drove two Audi Q7s for 6 years, but nothing makes me as happy as driving my 2013 Defender 110, sorry.
@@vodonnell1 And how do you detect bad fuel? Did not fill it up at an obscure petrol station in Woop Woop (i.e the middle of nowhere) ever.
Bits falling off... yes I can confirm this on my series 2a.
When a gorgeous lady meets a gorgeous car :)
I have a Defender 110 and I absolutely love it. Don't want to touch any other cars.
Got a soft spot for the original Defender. As a child I used to get a lift to school in one. A design icon.
absolutely agree on the environmental point
Great video - just subscribed. Watching this during my 17 month old twins lunchtime nap, so extra kudos to you. 👍
travelled in one; a Wrangler is compromised (owned an unlimited at one point) but the Defender is compromised to another level not surprised its not an every day driver. The main thing however is the freedom it offers.
Please do a podcast, lovely tone
good luck with it, but watch out for rusting chassis and rusty bulkheads loads of oil leaks and dont forget to change the timing belt.they are ok when new, keep away from the puma, its got too much electrical bits and pieces, and hard to work on as the engine is crammed in it. we had 3 of them, come back series 2a ! my first vehicle in 1969
my 94 RRC is the same thing, but with a different body. same squeaks and simple, w/power windows, but no h20 window leaks.
my dream vehicle , my mates had one a few years now and i'm so jealous , i drove one in Zambia many moons ago and fell in love with it :) , that one of yours is just gonna go up in value too ;)
I hope you get the chance to Road Test the New Defender soon
Nice to see. Currently doing up my 110 double cab on my channel. I am transofrming it from a basic poverty spec to top off the range with AC and leather seats etc. Mine does everything I need it to. Currently missing it while i am doing it up must be said.
More of these kind of videos please CarGurus.
Contrary to comments here, the new Defender is available in the USA - see Doug DeMuro review.
Watched that and saw the link to this one !
Yes, we have them here in West Palm Beach Land Rover, a whole truck load.
badgastein2
There is no new Defender. Just the name was recycled.
TWINS???? TF !!! I mean...CONGRATULATIONS to both you and your partner!!
Land Rover over any other 4x4/semi/SUVvy/criss cross vehicle!
You need to try the LOF clutch spring if they do one for your vehicle, made a huge difference to my TD5 clutch action !
7:17 that tdi engine ,, do u mean that transit van engine ??
Hope you get breakdown cover....
I have a TD5 Defender and would never part with it absolutely love it. Great review.
i like your defender. i wish i could get one here in the USA. but its difficult. but i will settle for a jeep wrangler. maybe i can find a defender later. but your defender is awesome .
Ten people downvoted this?? What's up lads - feeling just a wee bit insecure? That not only is the presenter of a CAR VIDEO a female, but she's also damn good at it too? Tsk, tsk, tsk boys - it's 2020: you need to grow up!
Lovely spec Defender there.
I'm so jealous...Defenders run upwards of 100,000 dollars in the U.S, and they're almost impossible to find since they were limited production, luckily in florida they are quite common but when ever one goes up for sale it's about as much as a house...
Just as a GI to bring you one. They are very cheap here.
I know they are cheap overseas, but they are collector's items in the U.S. Cheapest one i seen was 17,000 and it sold like an hour after it was posted, it didn't even run
I have such a man crush on Rebecca. Knowing about her love for her Defender makes me smile so much 👍🏻😊
She is not a man, is she? I think you, like me, have a regular crush on her.
Doh - yes indeed - a crush 👍🏻
The Defender like all Land Rovers before it is slow, thirsty, uncomfortable, water leaks everywhere, agricultural, less than reliable but absolutely bloody marvellous 👍🏻
Too bad. I just checked Autotrader on the prices for LRD. Most go for $50,000+. Thing is, the new Ford Bronco is coming out. Looks to be a modern version of the LRD. But it's new and modern, and comes with a warrenty...
Delightful...and which of the twins is your favourite and will inherit ?
good video, landrovers is the when life begins ;-) good luck whet your defender
thought I would be watching a video about a woman who bought a new LR (I wont call those Defenders- Defenders ended in 2016) but it is a real Defender - do you use it as a DD ? a lot of people have a tough time with them as a DD - if they dont have automatic gear boxes - a/c cruise control etc - especially if they have to drive into the city
Brilliant viewing !
Wonderful video. How did you find and acquire your Defender?
Love everything about this film. I have a 32 year old Series 3. It will outlive me, just bury me with it, lol. Enjoyed, thank you.
1988 series 3?
Congratulations on your Twins; no idea you have been pregnant.
Please take them on tests just like Everyday Reviews from Canada.
Gives such a warm vibe in a review.
Love that you share your privately owned land rover. 👏
That is a superb speaking voice!
They leak oil for a reason, it lubricates the chassis from all of the rust....
When you buy a Land Rover, it hard to go back! It's personal, warts and all. Nothing really compares to a LR. Despite all the talk of breaking down, people still buy them in their thousands. Mine have been very good, no issues, what else would I have?
If and when they do break down, they are so easy and cheap to fix (at least the pre-puma ones are).
Great video. I've always been looking for a non rotted Defender 110 Td5 or V8 to go with my 2001 Discovery 2 V8.
I loved your review of the Ranger Raptor.. so much so that I went out and bought one!!
love the defender but cant decide between new and old
Awesome video Many thanks, on Real Landies you and the twins will have loads of fun and they will have the best motoring start in life the smile and the Defender "Family" is global!
Greetings from Australia! We love our Landies too. (You’re ridiculously lovely by the way.)
Hi Everyone. Just wondered if anyone does have a Defender as a daily driver? If so, your thoughts please? Cheers, ands stay safe! Regards. Rob
Big question, would you wave at a new Defender? I am not sure it has anywhere near the charm of the old one.
Not really sure I'd recognise one, with a real defender, you can spot them a mile off.
Great video and I understand completely! Fantastic car and if I were you it would be driven until the wheels fell off. Thanks for sharing this car and the video, Cheers!
I guess the real question would be, why WOULDN’T you buy a Defender?
♥️❤️ Gotta love that work horse ♥️❤️
“It didn’t break down, bits just fell off” that’s the Defender owners mantra, along with “oil leak? It’s a security feature mate. If robbed, or when robbed should I say, you just follow the drops” 🤣😂
Thank you Rebecca for this; of course your review of the NEW Defender will now be the one to watch for....;)
Love your video everything you said is how I feel about my defender yes you get leeks and other problems.
