so much talent in this series. they're all on top of their game here, but sally philips with a pint glass stuck on her face is on another level. absolute legends
This is the best British female comedy for me. I really like Fiona Allen she’s absolutely brilliant. The scouse police statement from 5:36 is hilarious. The gormless woman at 7:15 was way ahead of her time. Nowadays you hear ridiculous stuff like this on every dating show
that first sketch, I have met people exactly like that when I lived in Tynemouth, it was a culture shock for me coming from a council estate in a pit village to see all these middle-class people wasting money on therapies like Reiki and soul healing, best one I ever seen was crystal healing, a girl held crystals over someones head for half an hour and charged them £50, you have seen harry Enfield "I seen you coming" sketch, I swear down it was that but in real life, I thought I was being sent up but the girl had a shop/stall in an old church hall and she advertised her services there she sold all kinds of junk bought on eBay repackaged and sold for a fortune, like joss sticks bought @ £25 a 1000 and selling them for £5 for 20 saying they were hand made in India when they were made in Doncaster in a factory,
I adored these incredibly talented, and very funny women, and still do. I practically fell in love with Sally Phillips. " Smack The Pony " was a work of genius, yet I don't believe that the girls ever got the credit they so richly deserved for them. Yes I do realise that there were two men also involved in the writing, but in a world like today, when misery and fear are all that's allowed, and the spineless whine and complain at every juncture, and look for offence at every opportunity, I sorely miss comedy that made me laugh out loud and often. Thank you ladies, and I love you Sally Phillips.
@@briseboy Ahh, a spotty and tubby little encel voices his anger, at someone who was neither whining, nor extolling EVERYTHING about a past time, and more importantly, for him, from a safe distance away. If anyone is " whining ", numb-nuts, then it surely must be you? There you are sitting there in your mucky shorts, bellies hanging over the waistband, surrounded by potato-chips that missed your voracious slobbering mouth, enpty fizzy drink bottles, and an overflowing ash-tray. Mama's alewadt told you twice to " keep it down in there, Maurice! " Enjoy the remnants of your miserable and pointless existence, Susan.
Outstanding work... quite a walk through the looking glass. To see a female perspective on humor, in a commercial medium dominated by the male gaze, is a rare treat. Very inspirational. If people see it as little uneven on the laughs, that is not a bad thing. The best comedy is always a bit uneven because the artists are pushing the envelope.
Interesting, Wire Tamer. I stumbled across this about 30 minutes ago. I've had a great time - some hmms, sniggers, chortles, chuckles and guffaws. I didn't think of it in terms of the female perspective, I was too busy having fun. Is that good or bad? No idea! I'm going to Episode 2 now.
Rare? French and Saunders, Mel and Sue, Victoria Wood and Joanna Lumley would like a word with you, and that was only when I was growing up in the 80s-90s. The sad thing is, as a child and a young man it never even crossed my mind about the gender of a comedian on stand-up or a skit show; but here we are in the 10s/20s and obsessed with bringing it up. French and Saunders were my favourite comedy duo when I was growing up.
@@danieltadd I agree there have been and continue to be excellent female comedians. But they make up a small percentage of the total number, especially when it comes to professional opportunities. To me, comedy is the highest level of the dramatic arts, because of the high level of human observation necessary to write material and the timing necessary to make it work on stage.
Yeah you are treating this as if it is so rare. Green Wing, Black Books, Famalam, Spaced, etc plenty of comedy written and staring women comedians also plenty of stand up female comedians. Just cos you are out of touch doesn't mean the world is.
Woah it had a young Sarah Alexander in supporting roles. Hell yeah she was really hot back then. But that was just the cherry on top. This had me laughing quite a bit overall
Acknowledging the universal greatness of Tina Fey, this seems like comedy written from a woman's point of view that other women would resonate with more than men would.
I'm a man and I haven't laughed so much in years. I came here from seeing Sally Phillips on Richard Osman's House Of Games and thinking that she seemed pretty cool. I now realise that she and the rest of the cast were absolutely brilliant!
God that dating video reminds me of an ex-colleague that went days and days without eating during the summers as he genuinely believed the strong sunshine was sustaining him, claimed eating regularly was bad for you.
Pre-teen Phoebe Waller-Bridge must of seen this & we got the post teen scenes from these brilliant women’s sketches! (Of course, AbFab & Dawn 〰️〰️〰️!) Love these silly, vapid female lyrics with brilliant 90’s style MTVideos...
did a dry spit-take at 'People Who Look Irish' 🤣🤣, first time seeing this in 2023 (thanks to The Day Today wiki page lol) and I'm so glad it's available in good quality, cheers to the gaffers and punters who made it happen :) . I'd love some more recommendations from y'all of your favorite uk comedies, especially the short lived ones, i've seen almost all the obviously great ones but I know there are loads more...FEED ME
Green Wing, Black Books,, Spaced, Coupling, Nathan Barley, Peep Show, Never Mind the Buzzcocks, Garth Merenghi's DarkPlace, Brass Eye, Time Trumpet, The 11 o clock show. Just a few here, hope some are new to you. Enjoy 😁👍
This is an english comedy programme... this is an english sense of humour, not a Scottish sense of humour, not a Welsh sense of humour... english...not british, neither is it u.k. and never will it be Irish even if a character is acting the part of an Irish character...tell me you're from the states without telling the entire internet you're from the states...cor blimey

"I forgot. He's at the Scouts" - That one of my favorite sketches.
so much talent in this series. they're all on top of their game here, but sally philips with a pint glass stuck on her face is on another level. absolute legends
Are u Ukrainian? , I'm not I'm just regular old British
She is the brains behind the show. Her life has been rough with a divorce and a special needs child. She fab. Loved her on Taskmaster.
Absolutely loved this back in the day and is still as funny now 🤣 they can make you laugh without even talking. .especially Sally philips
I like how they scripted all the male characters to be on the second ranks in the stories. Gave whole new perspective to the show
Back in the day? Were you born over a hundred years ago?
I love the irony of the last sketch with the lip stick. This program was made in a time when ridiculous lips via surgery were relatively rare.
100%
I don’t know how they kept straight faces during some of those sketches. Just brilliant!
Paper cut ..classic it doesn’t get any better than that , I mean the the timing , this show had some of the top 100 hundred comedy skits of all time
I forgot how funny this programme was - hilarious silliness brilliant😂😂😂😂
Ive NEVER seen this before I must watch it - HILARIOUS..............

Sadly, I forgot how fantastic this show was absolutely brilliant stuff 🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌
One of the best comedies there was!!
Doon is hilarious. She's one of those people: I anticipate her doing or saying something funny
This is amazing! Bringing back memories from other sketch shows 🙌🏼
Sally Phillips could make me laugh with just her facial expressions.
God this is so funny. Smack the pony is one of the best comedies to come out of the UK
Why did they stop 😫 soooooo funny
New best thing ever
Have you seen Green Wing? Sally and Doon went on to do that with the same team.
Sally was so hot back in the day and still
Naaaah that's gotta be only fools for me

Good comedy. Definitely written by women from a woman's perspective.
Successful and unique.
The 'did I come' sketch had me absolutely CRYING with laughter when she did the 3rd noise!!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
That marriage proposal sketch lool!

Tears of laughter here.

OMFG, Sally, Sarah and Doon. xx
I always liked Smack the Pony. And Sally Phillips. :)

gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous
These are very talented comediennes,
they‘re all hot as hell too
great:) havent seen this show! Nothing beats British comedy and sketch shows
Best comedy sketch show ever, even still today.
what a great year 99 was for comedy this league of gentlemen gimme gimme gimme
Great Funny Women ... I always fancied Doon!.
The best comedy sketch show to never totally come out on DVD..... WTF !!!! ?????
It’s shit!
Randomly came in Facebook feed, and started searching UA-cam and ended up here🔥🔥🔥❤️❤️😂😂😂😂😂😂
Same story here.

This was such a funny show!! Awesome!
THE SCOUTS ONE PAHAHAHA
This is still really good
I used to love this show!!!!!
Channel 4 could pretry pretty please bring this show back. It was f#%#@ing hilarious.
Bunny Fitches... 😂 that opening pool scene... absurd. There are several good laughs here. I think some folks might be bereft of humour.
This could be horrible for all I care but Sarah Alexander in a thumbnail gets a view and a like.
Making me nostalgic for Drop the Dead Donkey
I missed this years ago brilliant show seriously funny women love the theme tune too
I loved this when I was young so underrated
Sally Phillips is gorgeous.

10:55 Doon and Sally are both so beautiful!
This is comedy gold
Omg I ain't seen this since it's first airing in the 90s I think this was one or the best sketch shows of that decade...
The funniest show ever created!!! Happy memories and my girlfriends love it when I send it to them and we watch it. Thanks. xxx
I used to watch this every week. It absolutely cracked me up
The horse song is unironically really good
Genius, just genius
"If I can't do Dressage I will die "21:00
Great entertainment. Thank you.
cant believe i haven’t seen that

Really funny 🤣
anno 2024: Brilliant.
brilliant
Very talented team presenting new and inventive sketches but sadly a lot of them are just fascinating and bizarre rather than funny.
I do hope this video contains strong language and adult humour.
It annoys me that it's such a pain in the arse to get this on DVD and even then it's a "selection" rather than the full series.
That Reiki sketch..
Why would you disable the auto captions?
Funniest Girls ever on this planet❤😅🎉And sooo Beatiful
