This applies to hexavalent chroming, and I understand that California is implementing a similar ban. It is pretty nasty stuff to produce. However, the alternative of trivalent chroming, which is more expensive and lacks quite the same lustre, will still be permitted. I don't know if its "hardening" qualities are as good though. 14 years old and having it's first MOT!! They were talking of extending the requirement for MOTs to 4 years from new here in the UK recently but the government dropped the idea due to protests from the usual suspects.

According to the research I've done the trivalent Chromium isn't as hard and is more difficult to "do" properly.
Unfortunately, I'm going to have to replace the rear suspension before the MOT. She rides like a bike with 1960s suspension. Rideable but not up to today's standards...

Ha. I replaced the rear suspension early in the life of my now 22-year-old Triumph because it began to fail on the way to its FIRST MOT and only just scraped through.
