JJ was being interviewed by a fellow Singaporean who became a sports reporter for some international sports channel. ESPN I think. JJ is rather apt at vocal mimicry. He is able to code switch between Singlish and proper english or even American style english. You can check out his singing with Jason Mraz etc. . And he can certainly put on quite a convincing indian english accent as well.

We kind of subconsciously code-switch depending on who we're conversing with - you can even hear both standard and colloquial Singapore English in the same group conversation! Alright, so, I do have a different take on the rising intonation when he said "... finals day". To me, it sounded like he wasn't entirely certain, "It was... it was the same, the finals day?" It could be that he's not sure, because he also paused for a bit before continuing, or it could be that he's wondering if it should be "finals" or "final" just as he reached the end of the utterance. Listening on, we see that his confidence is further shaken when he repeated Cilic to correct himself (although that could also just be him being unsure on how to properly pronounce Cilic). But you're right with the observation that there's a higher frequency of rising intonation in spoken Singlish, as opposed to say speakers with an English accent, especially at the end of sentences. I find this to be slightly different from the rising inflection in speakers with an American or Australian accent, mainly due to the inconsistent distribution of said up-speak in Singlish speakers. Oh, and I just wanna say that I really enjoy watching your videos! It's amazing that you speak Mandarin Chinese so fluently! Hahaha I don't even think I know half of the technical terms in Chinese!
Singlish sounds like when Cantonese people have bad English because it isn't their first language. I was shocked to find out it was their first language in Singapore and they still talk like that

Ukrainians from east Ukraine like Donetsk tend to speak Russian as their first language. Education standards in Singapore students have to write in British English for example the word Colour which is accepted by the education system in Singapore but if written as Color is unacceptable . Such as realize and realise, recognise and recognize , grey and gray. Basically Singlish is an English-based creole language spoken in Singapore, Singlish is a blend of Singaporean slang and English.
Sorry, i have to say most Singaporean especially born fron 90s onward Singaporean , they can speak very fluent English,only use singlish with close friends, relatives and local ppl.

We write aeroplane instead of airplane, we write aluminium instead of aluminum, we write anticlockwise instead of counterclockwise, we say curtains instead of drapes. While we do understand American English, we mainly use British English especially for essay writing. Btw American media sounds very vague here, do u mean movies or music? Because other than those 2(which are very popular in other part of the world as well), I can't think of any other "media" which is popular in Singapore. I would say Singapore are also affected by many other kind of entertainment like Chinese, Korean and Japanese entertainment as well. And our English don't change due to that.

Word like Gonna is Informal Contractions are common in America English are not "Correct "English.We do not use them in a written examination. 刚来新加坡的时候就发现一个很有趣的现象。。。同事之间，就算有很好的私交，平时也都用华语或方言交流，但，一讲公事/正事，就会自然而然地切换到英语。朋友之间也一样，一讲严肃的事，也会自动切换。。。
因为他们大部分人都学过一定的中文，但没有从小到大系统地学，所以日常交流没问题，专业词汇和表达这种东西只有接受过完整教育的母语者才能在日常工作中流利使用
就算方言是他们母语，但使用方言一般说的都是生活中的事情，一旦接触到专业词汇的交流，没有接受过系统的中文教育的话很多词语方言也表达不出

說標準英文，發音跟口音是兩回事。最重要的就是說的英文要讓別人聽得懂。口音不怎麼重要。比如英國和美國口音就不一樣 但還是說的是英文。
在新加坡，還是要看妳跟誰對話。因為年紀大一點的說的英文一定是Singlish (比較他們以前生活條件沒這麼好，很多人沒上學）。年輕人就跟朋友說的是singlish, 但對外國人說話就切換成標準英文，但多多少少還是有點口音。

作为在新加坡生活工作3年了的中国人，现在的年轻新加坡华人小孩子越来越普遍说英语了，华语真的是越来越用的少甚至不用，华语当然也是越来越不好～
老实说，新加坡注重英语多过华语，因为要追上国际的进展步伐。

我母语是华语，跟中国人沟通可以完全不参杂任何新加坡的俚语，但是不会改口音。我是南方人后代，特意发出翘舌音感觉很不自然。英语更是一样，会以自己最自然的口音表达，完全没有任何障碍。从来没有想要扮美国人

連續看了幾部這類影片，其教育意義是無庸置疑的，但老實說，我認為太多人都是來看熱鬧的(誰不喜歡看名人被專業人士批判?)，在看影片時要心態要放對，才能真正學到東西....多點肯定與自省，少點酸言酸語。
