  • (4 Mar 2020) AMY WINEHOUSE HONORED ON MUSIC WALK OF FAME
Amy Winehouse was honored in her beloved Camden Town, London on Wednesday (4 MARCH 2020) with a stone on the Music Walk of Fame.
The singer, who died from the effects of alcohol poisoning in 2011 aged 27, lived in the area and was known to local residents.
Her debut album, "Frank," was released in 2003 while her second, "Back to Black," won five Grammys at the 2008 Grammy awards, tying the previous record of most wins by a female artist in a single night.
Attending the unveiling of the plaque on Wednesday were guests including Amy's parents Mitch and Janis Winehouse, as well as recording artist and journalist Don Letts.
A local school choir also performed a rendition of Winehouse's hit song, "Valerie"
Speaking afterwards, Mitch Winehouse said the stone was a fitting tribute to his daughter's memory.
"Amy's spirit is here. To see the stone in perpetuity outside the Tube station, which I use pretty much every day, is pretty weird but beautiful, really beautiful."
He also commented on the enduring influence of her music.
"She remains popular and she's a Camden icon. And I was talking to people that have come down from Blackburn and Dartford and they've even come from Ilford in Essex. So it's been a great day."
In 2014, Camden Market unveiled a life-size bronze statue of Amy Winehouse - a popular attraction for tourists and fans.
Winehouse's family also set up The Amy Winehouse Foundation, help young people with problems including addiction.
