  • In this video, we break down the brand new Altra Rivera with this shoe review. It's fantastic new lightweight trainer from Altra that we think is a great blend of quick/nimble along with enough cushioning to go for distance.

    Just bought a pair and went for my first run (5k). They felt so good! Light, snappy, and natural. Highly recommend them...nice review

    Great review! Very thorough! I love the info you gave regarding the quantic vs ego foams and how this compares to the Torin and the Escalante (I have both and was looking for something right in between and I think I've found it after watching your review.) Thanks again! P.s. I'm now sub'd

      Glad you liked it! In case you want to check out more up to date reviews, I'll be doing those over on my own channel, Behind the Run. I haven't done a review in a long time since work got crazy, but they're going to pick up this month!

    I love the Rivera and will never go back to "normal" over-stacked, over-aggressive plated running shoes ever again. Love to be running naturally again.

    You might have convinced me to try this shoe. I actually always size down in altra's b/c I like a snug fit. That's why I have really run in their shoes. I use them mainly as my work shoes. I have 20 miles on the escalante 2.5 and I actually consider it max cushion. I do most of my miles in nike frees.

      Wow! If you run in the Free's and think the Escalante is max cushion then you're going to love the cushion on these! I hear yah with the sizing down for the snug fit. Would be curious to see what you think if you try them out!

    I’ve run in multiple Altras since the Paradigm was just “Paradigm”. Rivera is the best.

    Nice review! I noticed on the Altra website that the Paradigm 5 has Altra Ego foam and not the Quantic like your review says. I like Quantic more than Ego but I really want to try the Riveras. The Torins felt really good underfoot, but gave me hotspots smh..

    • @RunWithUs
      @RunWithUs  3 роки тому +1

      Hey Driq - Nice catch! Completely missed that detail and makes a ton of sense as to why I feel that pop I was mentioning when running in the Paradigm. I hear you on the hotspots with the Torin. The same thing happened to me initially but I usually throw in a Superfeet (the running specific one) in all my shoes and once I did that I haven't felt it. Altra has some pretty thick sockliners so not quite sure but I'm thinking that might of played a role in it. Again, not too sure but having the slightly firmer contact seemed to take care of that issue for me. Depending on where you live, I know the Altra reps have demo sets of the Rivera and I'm sure would let you try them out if you reached out.
      Thanks for the comment and feedback!

      The Torin 5 ditched the Quantic. Kinda surprising.

    Snugger than torin? Altras going backwards! They need to widen out that toebox!

    • @RunWithUs
      @RunWithUs  3 роки тому +2

      I think their idea is to have a wide array of fitting styles with the same foot shaped toe box so that different styles can work for different people. Thank you for the feedback!

    I had to size up a half size - my toes were pressing hard up against the front whilst running/walking.

    I wanna try them but how is the ventilation? The torin 4 had great ventilation especially across the toes. I recently tried the 4.5 plush and returned them immediately after a few runs. My feet felt like they were on fire in cool weather so I can only imagine this summer. I'm on the fence in buying another torin 4 or the new rivera. Any help would be appreciated thanks.

      That's a tough one since I haven't had those issue in the current Torin and never ran in the previous Torin. I think the ventilation is fine and it uses a mesh instead of a knit like the Torin. I'd say go for the Rivera or if you can wait a bit you might want to wait until May, which is when the new Torin will come out. I believe the previous Torin used a mesh as well so I really think you'd enjoy the Rivera as long as you like that slightly more snug fit. Hope that helps!

    How breathable is the upper? Can you see light passing through?

    • @RunWithUs
      @RunWithUs  2 роки тому

      It's perfectly breathable. You don't see light passing through, so it's not like racing flat thin in the upper. Haven't had any issues with overheating or anything like that.

    I'm not digging the snug narrow fit on these one. They marketed it for those Nike Fan boys who love a narrow fit and want to transition into a zero drop flat. I will wait for the new Torin to come out, hopefully a quantic midsole with more stack. I want value since Im into long weekend mountain road runs.

      I think they just wanted a different fitting shoe for those that don't want all of that room. We've actually been really enjoying it and it was a nice alternate for those that don't want so much room. Hopefully the new Torin comes with positive tweaks! It should be out this May barring any setbacks.

    Can you tell your what hat you are wearing?

    • @RunWithUs
      @RunWithUs  2 роки тому

      Hey Christian! So the hat is technically the Tweener hat by BOCO, but the specific one I'm wearing was one that Nathan dropped a while back. I don't think it's available anymore though, unfortunately.

    3 issues for me 1) heel lock, 2) Insole too soft, like feet digging to sand. 3) Laces to short for runners loop. After lock down with runners loop and changing to a firmer insoles all good.

    • @RunWithUs
      @RunWithUs  3 роки тому

      Love the feedback Yeow! Totally hear you on the heel lock and about the insoles. I tried referencing that except that the heel lock did get better the more I ran in the shoe. Same with the insoles. I switched them out like you and it made it waaay better.
      Good to know about the laces! I wasn't aware of that so thank you for that input.

    I do not like snug fit! To me, snug fit is a trend which people and shoe companies follow for no scientific reason. Altra is going backwards by making their shoes narrower and narrower. Altra is gradually becoming another ordinary shoe company.

    • @RunWithUs
      @RunWithUs  3 роки тому

      Altra is really just providing different options for people that don't want as wide of a fit while still keeping the foot-shaped toe box. The Torin and Escalante have their wider fits in the Neutral category and the Torin is also available in Wide for people that need more additional room.
