Someone said it best when they pointed out a goofy movie didn't do too well when it came out but it planted a "nostalgia time bomb" that exploded in the mid to late 2010s.
@@Boswizzles what kind of cow has floppy ears? His ears are like Pluto's ears. I know who Clarabelle is, I know she's a cow but I am pretty sure Goofy is a dog.
There's a lot more to "the perfect cast," than just being "Goofy's signature fishing technique." It's essentially the "Goof family heritage," so almost perfectly following the Hero's journey. (Rescue your father from the underworld by taking on the mantle of your heritage.)
I honestly think the datedness of the goofy movie helps it in it’s favor, the fact that everything max likes is lame shows the ultimate vanity of everything he was trying to get.
You keep getting me invested in what you have to say about the goofy movie and learning the themes of the movie that I never noticed until now... And then you proceed to hit me with names like 'goofy gazbear' and 'goofenshmirtz'.
I'm just gonna say it. I have not seen such a funny and interesting video about a fun animated movie in sooooo long. You have made me laugh so much with just the opening of this video. Thank you for making it, and I can't wait to see what you do next
Dude, I’ve seen so many analysis video about “A Goofy Movie” in which they tell u that is actually one of Disney’s greatest. But the personal part from 15:10 really go to me, because I realized I have the same thing if i’m ever alone with my dad… and it made me tear up.. So thank you for opening up about that ❤
Ah, another case of "one of my new favourite content creators is younger than me". Yeah, that isn't going to give me an existential crisis and make me feel really old.
This is some peak youtube essay man, really well scripted, analytic and hilarious while still feeling natural and personal. and for (at least I can see) a first video? this is some QUALITY content my man
My son & I love A Goofy Movie. There's footage on YT from a convention where Max's voice actor sings "On The Open Road" with Goofy's voice actor and he sounds awesome. (No one has any idea why he wasn't used). There's footage of Tevin Campbell (Powerline) singing I2I as well, which is awesome to see. It looked like a fun convention with all the cast there.
Ooh, thank you for making this video. Im a Goofy Movie super fan, and an even bigger fan of Max Goof, he will always be my favorite fictional character. 10/10 video 🩷 Also, the singer for Max Goof in this film is actually not Jason Marsden surprisingly, it's Aaron Lohr!
I grew up with Goof Troop and always had a love of baggy clothes even to this day ^^ So when I learned of this movie, I was pretty hyped for it. I saw it as a teenager with my mother ( _How old was I.. 12-13 maybe? I have no idea truthfully_ ) and loved it. Goofy is my favorite Disney character. He's just so genuine. Anyway, it does strike somewhat close to home. I don't dislike my father nor my stepfather but.. I also do. One of them ( Stepfather ) tried to encourage me to learn how to fix car engines when I have *ZERO* interest in that and blatantly refused all that stuff and all the arguments throughout the years made me start sweating and worry whenever we are in the same room together alone because I always expect it to turn into an argument even though nowadays it's mostly alright, was pretty funny this Christmas when mother and stepfather as usual wanted me to try drinks even though I don't drink, they honestly look pretty cute when they talk like children about their favorite drinks. And the other ( Father ) is rather selfish only really caring about sports and hunting and every interaction is pretty much " _Yes, Yes, Yes, No, NO, Yes No, Yes Yes No, YOU OLD DUMB MAN!_ ". I get best along with my mother and I am fine with this.. Just wish my father would not be so stiff and dumb of a person. As the child of all these, I find it to be my duty at times to guide them to not make stupid political decisions but uh.... I have, not been entirely successful. > 20 year old GenZ'er x)
A Goofy Movie is a classic and the first movie that dared to write a stoner character into their script. Forget that Pauly Shore voices Bobby. Just look at him.
I was 12 years old when this movie came out. Talk about nostalgia fodder. My age group saw goofy as old school when this came out, but yet this movie hit awesome. I don’t actually remember it having a theatre release. I was a child of the Disney renaissance and those movies did, as you say, take all the screen time. This was as close to a direct to video blockbuster as you could get for the time. For those of us who grew up with MC Hammer and Vanilla Ice… Powerline was epic. I’ll never forget when Goofy got angry with Max. That was something that a kid of that era would always remember. Goofy didn’t get angry. Goofy was goofy. The contrast was so well done and it felt so natural despite the unique character development. This wasn’t really Goofy, but was. I love this movie. I wish it was part of the Disney canon.
I actually loved this movie way more than the Renaissance era films, and loved it immediately. It's still one of my comfort movies. Crazy that it was slept on for so long; it's an amazing movie!
I’m 34 and I watched this movie again thinking it would age badly. Instead, it ages like fine wine. As a kid I related more to Max, and as an adult I relate more to Goofy. Also, love the Kingdom Hearts soundtrack in the background 😁 Please analyze more films, you got some good editing skills!
Video Title: this movie is what "Turning Red" wishes it wanted to be. 0:33: A cult classic is basically a film that became unpopular to mainstream, but are given a dedicated fanbase in another life. 0:42: The Rescuers Down Under is a cult classic for being a 2D sequel not made by DisneyToon Studios (in fact, DisneyToon Studios wouldn't exist until they worked on the DuckTales Movie). Also, it had more energy than it's predecessor, and a lot more to do than just being at one location for a rescue mission, while also showing Bianca and Bernard being in a relationship to the point of tying the knot at the end (although we don't actually get to see them married, but Bernard did propose which Bianca agreed). Incidentally, the show "Chip n' Dale: Rescue Rangers" (not to be confused with the movie that I nicknamed "Ripoff Rangers") was originally gonna be a spinoff series to the Rescuers, before Disney turned down the idea after the sequel bombed. 0:57: Goofy *is* a dog, but he's more of an anthro character; in fact, Goofy's original name was "Dippy Dawg". And like chad9186 said, it really didn't matter what Bill Farmer said, because he's not the creator; heirs don't control the canon. 1:09: It also should be taken into consideration that "A Goofy Movie" is a sequel story to the "Goof Troop" TV series, which features Goofy and Max, as well as Pete and PJ, in their similar roles as neighbors in a suburban town. The only exclusions to the film would be Peg and Pistol, Pete's Wife and daughter of the show; leading to a supposed canonical explanation being that Peg is finally fed up with Pete's abusive lifestyle that she divorced him and took Pistol with her, leaving Pete with only PJ (or Pete Jr.); funny enough, PJ was a Disney original character prior to Goof Troop, and although he was designed differently back then, he use to be as bad as his own father when meeting him in a Donald Duck short: "Bellboy Donald"... perhaps PJ pushing Donald's buttons too much to the point of being given a good thrashing is the only explanation as to how he acted differently when reintroduced in Goof Troop. 4:01: Interesting note: Prior to Disney's Buyoff of Fox, Jason Marsden was also the voice of Peter Pan in "Fox's Peter Pan and the Pirates". I guess if you want a property owned by Disney that also features Peter Pan, but is made by a completely different company, here you go. 4:17: You know, despite what I said about Bill Farmer earlier, this might be the reason why people don't like casting so many familiar characters with A-list celebrities. Now, on one hand, Danny Devito's Lorax and Idris Elba's Knuckles are great examples of casting a celebrity actor to play a character. With the Lorax, despite the film being hated for it's B-plot contradicting the original book's message (being sunny and happy in the aftermath while the original book is desolate and depressing), Devito's voice works well with the original book's description of the Lorax's voice being "sharpish and bossy". Idris Elba's voice really compliments Knuckles' character having origins being traced back to when he was part of a tribe of strong warriors, which hasn't been utilized in the game canon since Sonic Adventure 2 (or even Sonic Chronicles, which never got a continuation because of a controversy). It also makes for great "Stoic Fish Out of Water" comedy we haven't seen since Buzz Lightyear from Toy Story, or Starfire from Teen Titans (Pre-TTG). On the other hand, voice direction never took into consideration on what audiences usually think of when given character descriptions; like, for example, Mega Man, despite being called that, is suppose to be an android child, and not sound like a teenager. Despite the Illumination Mario Movie being a commercial success, it's understandable as to why people aren't comfortable with Mario being voiced by an actor who's not into doing character voices. I'm sure an actor like Charles Martinet can be able to pull it off if you look back at his acting portfolio; he also was the voice of the dragon Paarthurnax in Skyrim, voiced Senator Phillips in a "Jojo's Bizarre Adventure" OVA, and did voice work for Golden Films movies, which you can look into, either by the bargain bin films alone, or by looking at Phelous' reviews of films that Martinet voiced in (examples being GF's versions Beauty and the Beast or Anastasia). The point is, if you're not a character actor, don't accept a role you're not comfortable with. 6:32: "I Swear Goofy's asexual and Max is adopted", *not* canon! 8:00: Lucky for you, despite not having much attention in Disney Canon nowadays, he did get more screentime in the sequel. Also, 8:22: Admitting defeat in the hilarious reaction. 9:56 - 23:13, 23:47 - 25:50: The rest of the video is basically WHY Chicken Little and Turning Red failed, because none of those films understand the key-important element for storytelling: That love is strong in everyone, including families. It doesn't matter what ethnicity, religion, or even country you come from, Philia (or Mutual Love) is the strongest Earthly Love we need in life. Turning Red failed, because they made Mei in the right and her mother in the wrong, while Mei was twerking in rebellion against her mother. Chicken Little had the Father be neglectful by not speaking up for his son other than being terribly embarrassed about his son's mistake. And while Strange World is not completely terrible, there isn't much bonding between, Father, Grandfather, and Son; the son being homosexual. So, yeah, there hasn't been a Disney film, Before and After, that actually went that far into discussing about generation gaps, or even showcasing these character dynamics in that direction. I applaud this film for even attempting this.
