This is probably the first time I have seen a viable, non-fussy process to achieve this kind of blended paint shades look. Resembles a subtle and interesting woodgrain look, but with paint. Love it!
Thank you so much!
Great blend!
Thank you Kim for always sharing Very helpful tips...I appreciate you 🥰👍
Of course - thank you for watching 😀
Love your teachings! Thank you so much
Thank you so much - I’m so glad and you are so welcome😀
This is so awesome! Any simple ideas for what I can use on baseboards and cabinets to create a grey wash look without painting them first? I’m trying to do this myself and thought about using chalk paint, but the gel is nice too. Thank you!
I sure love that look
Thank you
Thank you. We have a 100 year old house with none painted trim we had to replace the windows but I want to stain them to match the original windows. The new windows are off white and the originals were dark brown stained.
Great video! LOVE your videos. Question - do I need to use a special paint as the base or is regular latex paint like Benjamin moore ok? THANK YOU!!!
@@annerewey4023 I don’t like latex paint on furniture - it isn’t meant for wood surfaces and can peel - if you use Benjamin Moore use their advance line - it’s great on furniture and this process can be used with it as long as it’s not a shiny sheen
Great tutorial. One question did you let paint dry before adding gel stain
Thank you and YES - put your paint on and let dry - 1-2 hours and then go in with your next application!
Love this! I just painted and sealed my entry table, but I feel it looks flat. Can I add this gel stain on top of my sealed application? I used Melange matte finish.
Yes but a good idea to give it a light scuff sand for the product to have some grab
@@BorninaBarnBoutique great idea. Thanks for the tip 🤗
What colors would you mix to get a driftwood look ?
they just came out with a few new colors - I would do white oak barrel, wagon wheel and black bourbon
Nice work! So happy to get all of this knowledge..I have been learning the hard way what not to do! ~ It looks like I could use that gel stain over almost anything? Currently redoing my dining room table and the Polyurethane that’s on it is fighting me to the death!
Thank you! I have learned the hard way too - trial and error over the years. Pretty much - it’s an awesome product. Poly can be such a challenge 😬
I know you are using lilly moon here and excited to get these products and try them too! :)... But was wondering if you know whether I can do this same type of blending technique with fusions SFO? Just without the water spray, I assume? :)
Yiu can use the fusion SFO over paint like this and yes no water since they are oil based you can use water to blend them
I wonder if you can use these over the retique it wood primer? That color is exactly what I want for counters. What do you think?
Yes I think these would work well over the retique it
@@BorninaBarnBoutique thank you so much!
How durable is this paint, ie. can you set a glass on it?
It is durable as it’s been tested but I always say it’s not impervious to life - it is paint. So I would recommend coasters to prolong the life and not have any issues
Is the paint dry before you add gel stain
Yes it is completely dry
Do you seal it with anything once it's dry?
It’s optional - it does have a built in topcoat - if you want more sheen and durability you can seal with a water based poly or even their salve
@@BorninaBarnBoutique Thank you for your information. You do beautiful work.
What color paint is underneath? Beautiful Kim!
Hi Yes I list that in the video - it is Lilly Moon Paint Cozy Latte :)
@@BorninaBarnBoutique Hi Kimberly, is the Cozy Latte the Opulent line or the Mineral Paint line? In other words, can I use gel stains over the Opulent line which has the top coat built in?
@@sharisheahan4719 you can use it over the opulent or mineral paint - I have done with both
Can you blend with paint and then se al it to get the same look without buying more products. I have a bureau I want to do.
I spoke with LMP and they don’t recommend blending the paint and gel stains together - you may layer them once each product is dry
@@BorninaBarnBoutique I didn’t mean blending paint and gel stain, I meant blending a few paint colors and then sealing with polycrylic. What make the gel stains different. This would be on the top of an already painted bureau that I don’t want to sand as the veneer is thin.
@@kathleenwilliams2318 yes you blend the paints and seal with a poly for sure. The gel stains are a water based, full coverage stain with a built in top coat and can be used over painted surface or on a bare wood surface
Would it be ok to put like a cherry glaze over that ?
It’s possible yes - depends on the glaze product - these water based gel stains apply easily and can be assisted with water for application - glazes tend to set and dry quickly making it hard to work with
@@BorninaBarnBoutique Thank you
