You guys bring REAL thoughts and opinions on your show, putting ET, MTV and all other movie media outlets to shame. Whether or not your right you give us a chance to think for ourselves and form our own opinions from yours. Thank you Rejects
I don’t even understand why this conversation about his eyes is even happening. The shot looks great at speed… freezing a frame and critiquing that is absolutely silly. How many of us have paused TV and someone is making a horrible face… as long as the film looks good I don’t care how bad a freeze looks. This is literally indicative of where we are as a society. I think we are broken… and loosing sight of everything that actually matters. I highly agree with the notion of enjoying movies for what they are. I enjoy most movies. Even bad movies. And I never really have expectations other than being entertained. Personally, I think I am happier than many of my friends who nitpick films to be frank. It must be exhausting being so dissatisfied all the time.

I’m going through some shit… But this was the most impactful meaningful conversation I’ve heard in a long time on the Internet. Thanks for all the joy, pain , and introspection y’all bring to the world!! ☮️💜
I'm not quite as enthusiastic as Coy, but I have similar feelings about entertainment media (Books, Games, TV, Movies). You can say "This isn't really for me", without saying, "This is the worst thing ever, I hate this, no one should like this". There is a huge difference between saying "I don't like this" vs "This is bad". To me, saying "This is bad" outright devalues the opinions of people that legitimately, for whatever reason, enjoy something I don't. And I get frustrated with people that seem to feel they have to tear something down in order to raise something else up.
I think the more passionate someone is about something, the harder it is to understand an opposing opinion. It's human nature, call it tribalism, ego, etc. Marvel vs DC, Apple vs Microsoft, XBOX vs PS, religion, racism, politics...
That's me with RWBY. People try to tear it down just to justify their homophobia, racism, sexism, and stupidity. I love RWBY, but seeing all this hate for an amazing show hurts all the damn time
He wants something to look forward to. He wants to have fun. Seems like people don’t want to be happy these days constantly complaining about everything
True infact people has lost entertaining themselves when watching movies they have to look at stories charecter arcs music and tiny details that don't matter forgetting how to enjoy movies, series and overall entertainment
This video was therapy. Such great discussion, GREAT points made. Glad you guys are talking about this and I hope this becomes your most watched video. A lot of people need this as a wake up call. Love it, guys!
The Superman shot outrage is purely manufactured. Some dweeb saw the trailer and started the negative discourse online, movie reactors all fell in line to farm engagement. Crazy screenshots and thumbnails. Nasty work ti be honest.
I saw the shot myself and while the close up may not have been that great, at the same time I’m not gonna let it derail my excitement for the movie especially since I want to see the flying scene in context
Honestly it’s good because they need some quality control. David a good looking dude and yet we having seen anything that proves it and now we get him cross eyed . Idk it’s weird
It’s just the American way. People think their Personal Opinion is facts and everyone needs to know what they think. Even though it’s just some random loser in a comment section
This is why Coy is awesome. Cause he has that positive outlook and judge things with true critique. He's never been a shill for anything and gives an honest opinion. He reminds me of my friends growing up as we sat around and talked about comics and played Dungeons and Dragons.
Loved his dislike of grim dark for everything DCEU was doing at the time. Now that Marvel has delved into it and Gunn's here, he so much more open and less critical. He has his bias just as you enjoy that it matches your own.
Tyrone Magnus has become this woke drama rumor channel. First person i thought about when greg talked about channels that milk drama and negativiti for videos.
The industry has taken a turn for the worst over the past few years. Too much virtue signalling and pretentious moral grandstanding is damaging the business. Hollywood needs to be called out on it.
Why didn't you guys come together for Cavill? for Tyler Hoechlin? for Snyder to complete his story? why do we have to come together only now?? You guys robbed us of conclusions to two supermen. Now you want us to come together? no. I want revenge, and if James Gunn is a bad filmmaker that just helps me. there you go, an honest answer. If you were as good people as you claim to be you'd have had empathy with people wanting to get full films and finished arcs form the things they love, instead of waiting your turn you guys CUT THE LINE, ousted Zack, Cavill, Hoechlin. So yeah, I will intentionally do my best to spread negativity and discourage people from watching this film.
@ Ha! “Agenda” is just a word with neutral definition. I just like the character of Superman and look forward to another big budget, live action film about him. I liked the trailer and I’m not going to go all whiny about a split second scene in a trailer where David Corenswet’s Superman raises an eyebrow while pretending flying.
Films that gained popularity over time in recent years: Hunt for the Wilderpeople (2016), Paddington 2 (2017), Hereditary (2018), Booksmart (2019), Sound of Metal (2019), Shiva Baby (2021)
On the superman eyes thing, he had one eye open more than the other, and ppl freaked out thinking it was AI bs... now this is my interpretation of the shot, I'm pretty sure they had a fan (or some other source of air movement) in front of him to blow his hair back and have some natural movement in his cape, obviously there's gonna be post production to make it look faster but to me that just looks like someone with wind in thier face.
He just has a lazy eye or cockeyed . But there’s def cgi in the shot and that makes it look uncanny as well. Hames gun said there’s not cgi on the face but there’s def some to put him in the shot and blend him in to it. The brushing editing tool or whatever they use to blend it looks off. Sorry but it does look ai. As a James gun fan I want this movie to be great so I hope they make it look better.
Yeah I think this is waaaaaay overblown and people have overreacted. GA and fans loved the first trailer. Once they drop the 2nd trailer people are gonna forget about 3 seconds of a clip 6 months out from the movie. Superman is gonna hit BIG.
people are seriously judging a movie's quality over a few seconds in a teaser? like criticisms I can get behind. if you care about something, you need to criticize it. but deeming a 2 hour long movie bad over a 3 second clip in a teaser, a movie that isn't even out yet, is just ridiculous.
Y'know, I really enjoy watching your guys' reactions on marvel and other content, but man I am so happy i clicked on this video because i really learned a lot about the first part of the video and even throughout about the world and how important positivity for the fictional world we create and about therapy's importance. I agree that to improve and grow you need to do the work outside of therapy. I am going to therapy and I am learning more about myself and understanding how to cope and manage my anxiety. And I agree that our world has become so negative and so over stimulated that our brains are constantly stressed and we aren't really enjoying life like we used to. I also agree about everything else you guys said. Honestly! I know this is just your guy's talking show, but I have learned and gained insane amount of state of our world/life insight from this one video. I don't feel like Im alone in the feelings that we have all been feeling for years now. Seriously you guys are so transparent and honest and Im really glad I got to hear your guys' thoughts. You guys are super awesome!
The AUDACITY to say this after the Doomsday reveal from BvS. People went APESHIT when that happened. “Why people so mad at a 5 second clip? HOPE, JOY, BEACON!!!”
Of all the podcasts out there, most of which I personally feel like aren't necessary or worth listening to because of their topics or whatnot, this is probably the first where I felt like it was a worthwhile conversation to be an observer of. Great job guys, always love what you guys have to talk about.
I know a lot of people will disagree, but I genuinely believe that Greg's movie experience at nosferatu and how increasingly common it is, is a direct result of marvel movie culture. Nothing against marvel movies or those who enjoy them but it's become common place for them during exciting moments to start screaming and throwing stuff. Which is fine but it happens so frequently (basically during the first 2 weeks of any marvel release) that I feel like people are just more comfortable being loud in the theaters now. Again no shade at marvel fans, I watch the movies too
I think it has more to do with short form content culture than Marvel (and I am not someone who cares about Marvel films at all (I only like maybe two or three of the entire MCU slate).
I don't believe that the "Haters" are hating just to be hating but I think they now see a power behind being a Hater. How many films have failed because the Haters have blitz media with their opinions? They see that they have had impact on some films and they can go around bragging about the power they had to impact a film and audience. So Haters do not hate to hate but hate for the power over people.
24:39 I only thought it could be a cgi problem after people insisted it wad a cgi problem. It looked completely normal to me. Maybe I’m just used to seeing distorted eyes in youtube videos
A movie is basically a story told with moving pictures, sound, and music, like a shared dream, minus the existential dread (usually). It's a total drag how fast they go from theaters to digital or streaming now, and don't even get me started on those assholes who are always on their phones or gabbing during the movie. Though, hey, some of us can tune that crap out and get lost in the story anyway. So, yeah, I'm still optimistic, because we're all suckers for good stories, and moviemakers will keep finding ways to tell 'em!
My favorite place on Earth is still the cinema (I am 27 and have always loved film and filmmaking) and I get what Tarentino is saying, but I also think that his comments disparage and minimise a lot of the great work that still gets made. Films like Oppenheimer, Dune Part 2, Wicked, Top Gun: Maverick etc are all fantastic cinematic experiences and they all came out recently.
I'm genuinely confused about the superman shot discourse (beyond the obvious hate that always comes for anything James gunn superman) but when I saw it I instantly understood this was superman flight done in a new way. Before it was very fantastical and grand or smooth or something like that, but this is raw. I felt like this is superman shot as if you strapped a wide angle on the man speeding through the air, it looks weird, because it looks real. His face and hair is being affected by the wind and the lighting is authentic, the distortion is embraced. It's a new take on shooting superman flight influenced by top gun which I think will be so cool to experience in theatres.
19:24 misery or joy is a choice. And it's weird that today, things highly monatized, propagated, loudest, are mostly the negative. It's sad. Thank you for choosing Joy, Coy. Nothing is perfect and most times the loud aren't doing anything but being loud. The average person would never see that technical aspect. We just want to experience the movie. Great discussion, guys.
Older zoomer who went to see Nosferatu on Christmas (a mistake). Thought the theater would be empty on Christmas but it was packed with teenagers who were clearly a Blumhouse audience. Spent the first twenty minutes desperately trying not to scream. They eventually quieted down but I could still feel the disrespect. As a lover of movies, I can’t imagine spending the rest of my life in this environment. Edit: As for your confusion as to how people can root for someone in a movie and vote against them in real life, it’s because media has trained people to root for the underdog. Which works in a fictional narrative with a clear protagonist, but in the real world, every individual thinks of themself as the protagonist and therefore the underdog. By voting for things that benefit them, they’re voting for the underdog in their mind, regardless of how well their actual circumstances reflect that feeling.
Maaan I discovered Coy (and this channel) recently but every time I listen to him I’m like "this dude is cooking like crazy!!!!" 😮😯 Love the positivity and his takes on these weird controversies. Let Coy Cook 🔥🔥🔥
You aren’t allowed to not like things that a segment of the audience loves. I’ve posted what I have issues with on the new Superman film, set photos look cheap, costumes look cheap, I loathe Superman’s suit, hate the underwear. I’ve got this feeling of it’s trying to be nostalgic and that’s not what I wanted from this, Reeves did it and he will always be my favorite actor to play the part but I see this and it feels like it wants to be something it’s not, my feelings on that may change after I see it but as of now it feels like a giant cosplay production. Guy Gardner is older than Superman in this universe and Guy is supposed to be a young punk and Superman is older and more well tempered as a hero, it just feels like an else world tale about another earth’s Superman that’s similar but not right. Something about the film has felt off for me from the first photos released and when I found out the vibe was nostalgic, I’m not interested in redoing what’s been done already and until it comes out, done better. I think trying to cash in on nostalgia is a bad way to set it up for failure, creating new ideas, new versions would be the goal I prefer. My issue with supporters of the film is that they can’t just support the film, they feel the need to attack anyone who feels differently with their Snyder hate, oh you just are a Snyder fan boy and you can post something and never mention Snyder, Snyder is done, a complete non issue but fans of Gunn don’t seem to know that because they use him to attack anyone who might not care for what they see. If you like what you see, someone not liking it should not matter to you and their reasons for not caring for it don’t require you being okay with their not caring for it, sometimes fan hood is toxic both ways. I hope the film does well for the franchise and their reasons character but it may just not be for me based on what I’ve seen so far.
You are allowed to, and you know that. Don't say you're not allowed to not like something, you can like or not like whatever you want. However, stating what you don't like will always draw responses and other people are allowed to disagree with you, like you disagree with them. Let's go with the costumes looking cheap thing you mentioned. You feel they look cheap. I disagree with you, I think they look fine. You don't like the classic Superman look with the red undies, that's fine, i do, it's classic Superman. I totally respect your opinion, but I feel differently. I'm not cancelling out your feelings though.
I've been fascinated by how things are made since long before Twitter was even a twinkle in some programmer's eye, like in books, featurettes, the whole shebang. My news obsession? Blame Jon Stewart and NPR.
People are too quick to say that the new Siperman movie will be a downgrade but all that’s truly been established is that Zack Snyder is a better cinematographer than Henry Braham. The movie will still be good I’m sure
Such an uneducated take that spews biases when u realize that Zack Snyder isn’t the cinematographer of his own movies besides rebel moon and army of the dead 💀
Honestly we still don’t know and that’s why I’m not judging until I see it in person at the theaters, when that movie comes out, I’m not going to be on social media at all and I’m going to see it for myself, and I’m not sure what other actor they could’ve gotten to play doctor doom, every other actor probably turned it down
Would you say that the rise of Movie Reaction UA-camrs like you is the first step in reconnecting people to the magic of movies? By watching older films, by sharing your experiences, viewers can understand why these films are beloved?
I think it largely depends on the reactors too.....some seem to make it worse. Too many people today don't like movies older than about 20 years old because they can't look at them without picking them apart and thinking they don't look good because of technology
I could watch it with Supes dangling from visible wires and I still suspend my disbelief. It saddens me that folks need things that are clearly not real to look real in order to enjoy the story. Maybe I'm just old. Thank baby jeboo. 🤗
So sick of people crying about movies. “We all know who the ones complaining are” If you want a movie to look exactly the way you want then make one yourself.
Same thoughts Greg. Want Superman to succeed more than most, but in motion the shot looks wonky. Zoomed in not so bad on the official Superman Twitter. Just want DC to finally get its long over, due. Great show guys.
No matter what Gunn does with the shot, people are gonna be pissed. If he keeps it in, people are gonna be pissed. If he cuts it out, people are gonna be pissed because they'll think Gunn is a coward and has no director integrity. If he "fixes" it, people are gonna be pissed because he tweaked David's face.
People complained that David looks so much like Cavill. Now they say he doesn’t look like Superman. People complain about Superman being dark, now they get colors they say it’s CW. People are crazy.
@@thechosenone9242yeah like David literally looks like Superman came off the comics and yet people say he doesn’t look like him. You just can’t please everyone
All he had to do was not use a wide angle lens. Superman & Lois had similar shots and none of them looked off because they kept the lens normal. I think it's the wide angle that's really hurting it.
I love hearing Coy talk, that enthusiasm is absolutely infectious. I can't stand 90% of the online community, it's just a horrible cesspit of hate. The Snyder fans (not all of them of course) are probably the worst fanbase I've ever come across. The Internet, when it came along, unfortunately gave little weeds a virtual platform and space where they can act like a big boy and a bully, where they can unleash all their inner angst and rage, right from their bedroom. Something they cant do in the real world. Its sad. Anyway.. Bring on Superman! 😂
First, I wanna say that I love this new setup. It's spicy and very professional! 🤗 Secondly, I will say that I LOVE the show Shrinking. However, not that I'm against anyone who chooses to do therapy, but my experience with therapy was not a good one, and the advice that I was given actually perpetuated my problem at the time. So, that experience sort of added to my already existing PTSD and cynicism about my problem. The reason why I like Shrinking is because it shows that even therapists need therapists, and therapists do not always get good advice. So, I relate to the patient-characters in that sense.
I love how for years fans of that previous iteration only ever dealt with "legitimate criticism" but people voicing their issues with the Superman trailer is just people looking to hate
I will always disagree when people say that a films purpose is to be entertaining. To be entertained, means to be amused (that is the definition). The point of a film is actually to be compelling, which means to invoke interest and attention.
The one thing I hate since the pandemic is great dramas seem to always go straight to streaming. Movies from before like Vantage point, The Fugitive, Pelican Brief, The Judge, nowadays seem like they would go straight to digital/streaming. 45:01
My response to seeing that superman shot was like 'oh that looks cool but that wide angle lens being so close to his face.... its taking a little away from it.' And I recognized that Gunn was probably in some part trying to make his own mark on how the flying is depicted. My brain can understand the perspective and proximity in the captured image so at no point did I think he was wall-eyed, I know he's gazing onward. I don't really like the super wide angel shots that I'm seeing in the trailers and one of the biggest drawbacks is what it does to your face in a close up. But I can "not love" a technical choice in a film and still love the film. I'm still excited to see how this film turns out.
I see zero problems with a character being "coked eyed", regardless how powerful the character is. The problem here is the audence and how shallow they are. Criticize a movie for it's writing and directing, not BS nonsense that doesn't affect the story or writting. It only affects YOU because you're shallow. Just be honest with yourself.
Why because someone has an opinion, does that automatically mean they are looking to be negative? Maybe, just maybe, people didn't like it because they think it sucks. If art doesn't move you, why do you need to blindly support it and act like it's "magical" for you? Nothing about this film has felt magical, and I don't need to be excited because "why not"?
Right not every opinion is negative aswell, I think coy is just on twitter too much and everything on twitter is just negativity, that’s why I got rid of it years ago, it’s too much
Also social media doesn’t really reflect the world at all, there’s 8 billion people in the world and not everyone has social media, it only represents like 0.002% of the world
I completely agree with Coy's point that we're constantly seeing politics and world events and it's become overwhelming, so there's become a backlash to having difficult themes in entertainment. I stopped watching any movies that have to do with slavery, civil rights, racism a few years ago because in my day to day life I am being barraged with those themes through social media, through in-person interactions, etc. So when I relax and watch a movie, I don't want to have to think about that. Our lives have gotten so overwhelmingly negative that now people have leapt to mindless, friendly content.
You guys aren't considering the mustache of it all. Josstice League left a permanent psychological scar on Superman. It might not be fair but the face will always be under scrutiny, there's no room for mistakes. No amount of yelling at clouds about magic will fix it. It sucks but Gunn has to be more careful.
My take on the movie magic is that you can still have movie magic, but also still acknowledge it’s a business at the end of the day, I watch wrestling for the storytelling and the magic of it, but I can still acknowledge that it’s a multibillion dollar business with very shady stories behind it, you can still retain the magic of movies, but still acknowledge it’s a business at the end of the day, Hollywood has always been shady with a dark side but can still make magic with movies
Greg speaking about people being so loud at the theater is so true. It drives me crazy and why I only go to matinees so there are far less people there.
I used to go to therapy as it came with my University and I needed it in 2023. I had never been before but I got so low that I needed to go because I was just so low due to moving places, getting a partner, all these positive life changing things happened so quickly and to someone autistic like me, it was a lot. I struggled with therapy because of the attention it takes and how tricky it is to open up. For some reason if I had a day where I was really bad I wouldn’t go when that’s when I should go more you’d think? Somehow, I got better, I listened to what thw guy said and the physcology behind it all but he said something so simple but it stood with me “sometimes we get sad m, and that’s okay” and that clicked straight away. I know “it’s okay not to be okay” is the main phrase but I couldn’t connect to that because my brain only saw it as a catchy sentence weirdly. I think therapy is fantastic but you also don’t want to loose that independence it takes when you leave therapy. I’d say use therapy the same way you use the gym to workout but the food comes after. The “food” for therapy is taking the steps whether it be “5, 4, 3, 2, 1” or whatever. Just things that make you happy or can help. Loved this chat.
I can't remember the last time I went to the theatre because I can't stand all the annoying stuff people do. Like Greg said, people on their phones and won't shut up, among other issues. I'd rather wait a few months and then watch it on my laptop, in my room, alone.
Thank you Coy on your points! The whole shot "controversy" is so stupid. It's people looking to complain about something. Ten years ago these people had the general public rally around them on this point but public opinion is swaying thanks to the trailer but also shows like Superman & Lois and My Adventures with Superman, the days of dumping on Superman and turning to someone for a high five for your sick burn are dwindling.
I’ve been dying to hear you talk about therapy Greg. I’ve been in recovery for years and went to rehab many times. I’ve experienced the thoughts and feelings you’ve had. Therapy is an opportunity to get a perspective on things that were inaccessible. If getting perspective on therapy by taking a break from it allows growth then that’s great. It is all about growth and healing and taking control of our own lives.
I think there's a fanbase of the previous Verse who took it personally that Gunn decided to end most of it. And content creators on the internet are milking it whenever they find crumbs to stir controversy.
4 seconds of a clip of Superman flying turned into hate is extraordinary. The internet never fails to amaze. I think the most important thing for Superman is that the casuals like it. I've seen some people say this Superman looks childish and i think that's very intentional because it will appeal to everyone including kids which is important. Majority of the people who will watch this movie worldwide have probably never heard of James gunn, all they know is there's a new Superman movie coming out and that's it.
Love the long conversation content. Hope to see more and maybe bring in others alongside you both. Thanks for the fun video guys! I disagree with you, Coy, on only looking at stuff joyfully. Not because your way is bad but more so because I believe the best critiques can come from the passion of hate. Critiques are meant to push growth. Nothing is perfect. But I agree with you on the side, in my opinion, that you shouldn't drown in that hate but also feel the same for joy. That is the same from what you said earlier about all things in moderation. I personally hate that Superman's eyes face outward. I actually thought it was probably a weird lens for the scene, but I could understand the cgi thought. Like the rest of the clip, but that face shot hurts. I'm optimistic about this movie, though. Also disagree with humans not surviving without dopamine or entertainment. Humans survived some of the worst times in history, though there would be a change needed too. I still like movies and TV but feel there is a lack of creativity with remakes happening and a lack of good writing, in that they are missing that grounding certain elements. Also doesn't help that most feel like they are trying to preach instead of just be fun, political isn't bad, but you shouldn't push one side but more so both are there. Still have fun myself even with the bad sides of entertainment in my opinion. Sorry for the paragraphs. Lots of thoughts on your conversation. Again, I appreciate the video.
Part of the reason I watch reaction videos is because I am forced to watch my favorite shows/movies by myself. I don't like to watch my shows/movies while being distracted by the things people around me are doing because they aren't as invested in the viewing experience.
I definitely agree that stylistic choice should be bold, but at the same time I want David to really come off well in every frame of this movie to sell him as the new Superman. I don’t mind the wide lense close up for a couple shots, but it better not be that way for every flying close up of him. People need to relax.
I think moments like that Superman clip were already cooked because the state of the world has caused us to overcompensatingly rely on entertainment for escapism as a coping mechanism that many ppl actually (and misguidedly) take offense when something doesn’t look perfect or takes them out of their fantasy.
Therapy should not be constant. No one should ever retain a therapist. That is medical abuse and there are terms for it. You should only attend therapy when you NEED it. Never trust a therapist that is willing to see you once a week or once a month indefinitely….
It's hypocritical to say that people should enjoy the fiction created by various artists when that same courtesy was absent during Zack Snyder's tenure. - Where was this attitude when Snyder was making his Superman? The criticism was so relentless that he eventually left Twitter and has remained inactive since. - A group of middle-aged fans, fixated on Christopher Reeve’s portrayal, couldn’t accept a different interpretation of Superman. Yet now, suddenly, criticism isn’t acceptable? - As long as the interpretation aligns with what you define as "fun," it’s fine. But the moment there's a deviation, the backlash escalates to death threats against artists. - When the Snyder Cut was being released, the same person speaking here made numerous negative statements, claiming it set a "bad precedent" and dismissing it as "mid." Check the comments on the original tweet tied to this video-you'll see just how hypocritical Coy is. Where was this concern for "bad precedents" when people bullied WB into abandoning Snyder’s vision and creating a string of disastrous films post-Justice League (2017)? Are the artists who worked with Snyder not worthy of respect? - "Don't judge a movie based on a 50-second clip"-yet Coy had no problem criticizing Snyder’s version over an early concept that was never intended to materialize and was scrapped from the start. - We don’t want one-dimensional heroes. We want them to suffer, to struggle, to cross the line and fight their way back. We want them to choose goodness, not just be good for the sake of it. - We don’t want heroes in outdated underwear-over-tights designs that make them look ridiculous. - We refuse to have our heroes defined by someone with a history of problematic tweets well into his 40s. Unlike some, we don’t blindly give directors a pass just because they made a film we happen to like. - We will criticize, and you guys deal with it. If Coy had the right to criticize Snyder’s Superman because it wasn’t what he wanted, then people have every right to criticize Gunn’s Superman when it looks objectively bad. Stop playing the victim when James Gunn’s DCU faces criticism-especially after spending eleven years tearing down the Snyderverse. "When mediocrity is set as a standard, rubbish becomes acceptable, acceptable becomes extraordinary, and extraordinary becomes genius." - Kamal Haasan
The difference is that Snyder's Superman was distinctly different and was shown in a different light completely, AND the discourse of it all started when Man of Steel came out and continued throughout the DCEU. James's Superman just dropped a single trailer, and we know very little about his portrayal yet. The criticism of the trailer and the clips is valid, but judging the entire movie based on those few clues is irresponsible. Watch the movie first, THEN we're allowed to make fun of it.
To your point of wanting protagonists to suffer and struggle; we literally saw Supes *struggling* to breathe in the very first clip of the TEASER trailer. This whole spiel to me is nothing but tiresome word vomit from someone who’s clearly in emotional distress. Respectfully Edit: don’t know how I forgot about this but we even saw him *suffering* a loss already over his robot companion in the same teaser
5:02 beautifully said and true! Many therapists like journalists have loss not projecting their own personal biases and can enable people to stay stuck. A great therapist doesn't want you to be there forever. They will help you move forward. Therapy done right is life changing.
Glass house thing. The one track opinion that a character must be presented one way is what gets me. I loved the original Batman when he was gunning criminals down w/ pistol in hand to the goofy antics of Adam West to the now dark & recluse nature of the character now. Think of Injustice if different viewpoints of a character wasn't allowed exploration. Superman being the main exmple. It's the rigid nature of some who think only their version of the character is acceptable and the only means of enjoyment is the problem. Just because a version of the character hits your "joy" button doesn't mean it's everyone's cup of coffee. Let's see if grim dark will be used to any extent to bring Gunn's or Marvel's current injection of it down.

Personally, I think I am happier than many of my friends who nitpick films to be frank. It must be exhausting being so dissatisfied all the time.

Amazing discussion 👏 👌 thank you for talking about the "reel" topics 🎉❤
I'm not quite as enthusiastic as Coy, but I have similar feelings about entertainment media (Books, Games, TV, Movies). You can say "This isn't really for me", without saying, "This is the worst thing ever, I hate this, no one should like this". There is a huge difference between saying "I don't like this" vs "This is bad". To me, saying "This is bad" outright devalues the opinions of people that legitimately, for whatever reason, enjoy something I don't. And I get frustrated with people that seem to feel they have to tear something down in order to raise something else up.
THIS NEEDS TO BE TOP COMMENT!
I love RWBY, but seeing all this hate for an amazing show hurts all the damn time
This! 💯
People making their entertainment choices part of their personality is a huge online problem now.
The world needs more ppl willing to enjoy things the way Coy does
seriously lol
He wants something to look forward to. He wants to have fun. Seems like people don’t want to be happy these days constantly complaining about everything
True infact people has lost entertaining themselves when watching movies they have to look at stories charecter arcs music and tiny details that don't matter forgetting how to enjoy movies, series and overall entertainment
@@thechosenone9242plus the world is negative enough already so we definitely need some hope and positivity rn

The Superman shot outrage is purely manufactured. Some dweeb saw the trailer and started the negative discourse online, movie reactors all fell in line to farm engagement. Crazy screenshots and thumbnails. Nasty work ti be honest.
Facts 😂
It's typical content grifter stuff. They need to create drama for their channels to exist.
I saw the shot myself and while the close up may not have been that great, at the same time I’m not gonna let it derail my excitement for the movie especially since I want to see the flying scene in context
Literally looked fine, 1 sec of a closeup looked a little odd, if that ruins the movie for people they weren’t Superman fans to begin with.
I don’t think so man.
Why are we making such a deal out of Supermans flying?
Honestly it’s good because they need some quality control. David a good looking dude and yet we having seen anything that proves it and now we get him cross eyed . Idk it’s weird
People NEED to rage online. It doesn't actually matter what they're raging about. It's more about them than what they're raging about.
It’s just the American way. People think their Personal Opinion is facts and everyone needs to know what they think. Even though it’s just some random loser in a comment section

This episode was truly a breath of fresh air. Thank you guys!
Yep. He settled into the grift a while ago.
Its because people love negativity. Sadly
Sadly, its just not the same anymore😢
Agreed that's why stop following him
All the people dumping on the Superman flying clip are bizarre crybabies. Ignore them and their lame fanboy agenda.
Snyder cult
"Agenda" is cringe. You're doing the same thing just on the other side.
@@richlasma lol 😂
@ Ha! “Agenda” is just a word with neutral definition. I just like the character of Superman and look forward to another big budget, live action film about him. I liked the trailer and I’m not going to go all whiny about a split second scene in a trailer where David Corenswet’s Superman raises an eyebrow while pretending flying.
41:49 I absolutely hate the disrespect from people at theaters. Some of the most fun is trailers. I feel like an old man complaining 😂.
I heard that it may be because of the camera lens that was used.
I really liked your conversation and I agree with everything you both said. Looking forward to the next one.😊
I always enjoy reject content but this might be my favorite thing you’ve put out.
Yeah, people generalize everything nowadays. And I do mean everything!!
Wow .Thank you both this is like a full meal of a show ! Valuable .
Yes movies need to take longer to reach streaming.
Cinema is dying because people say
"I'LL WAIT FOR STREAMING..........."
that is killing cinema.
The AUDACITY to say this after the Doomsday reveal from BvS. People went APESHIT when that happened. “Why people so mad at a 5 second clip? HOPE, JOY, BEACON!!!”

It's the manifestation of humanity's worst instincts, ignore that sh*t brother.
Fantastic conversation guys im looking forward for more to come.
Good point!
Worked to bury anything Snyder related. Glass house thing, I guess.
My phone is how I listen to music
My favorite place on Earth is still the cinema (I am 27 and have always loved film and filmmaking) and I get what Tarentino is saying, but I also think that his comments disparage and minimise a lot of the great work that still gets made. Films like Oppenheimer, Dune Part 2, Wicked, Top Gun: Maverick etc are all fantastic cinematic experiences and they all came out recently.
I think QT is criticizing the whole business model of a movie being in the theaters for 2 weeks and then available for streaming.
Number one thing I would pass on to Gunn is that if you have to type the word "lense", cut the shot. 99.999% of people won't ever understand.
coy is so real, its amazing!
Truth
19:24 misery or joy is a choice. And it's weird that today, things highly monatized, propagated, loudest, are mostly the negative. It's sad. Thank you for choosing Joy, Coy. Nothing is perfect and most times the loud aren't doing anything but being loud. The average person would never see that technical aspect. We just want to experience the movie.
Great discussion, guys.
this has been my favorite expression of Reel RejectsI would definitely watch more of this.
Started watching movies Saturday at noon, haven't had someone talking or cell phone in years.
We've seen how they treated Matt Reeves and Robert Pattinson over The Batman, now they're doing the same thing to Superman.
THANKS JOHN!! xD

@@freshnoodles2108 kinda funny he said that
Ah ok , people always harp on about Zack Snyder’s knack for visuals I always assumed he did the cinematography for MoS and BvS.
I think RDJr is just too closely tied to the character of Tony Stark for him to authentically play another well known Marvel character....
10/10 comment, I 100% agree with this. @ReelRejects.
I think it largely depends on the reactors too.....some seem to make it worse.
Too many people today don't like movies older than about 20 years old because they can't look at them without picking them apart and thinking they don't look good because of technology
QT: I didn’t get into to this for diminishing returns
Studios: Neither did we
I could watch it with Supes dangling from visible wires and I still suspend my disbelief. It saddens me that folks need things that are clearly not real to look real in order to enjoy the story. Maybe I'm just old. Thank baby jeboo. 🤗
I thought it was John Krasinski, the bad Flash CGI is why the hate, like here we go again
Yet, it isn't even CG...
So sick of people crying about movies. “We all know who the ones complaining are”
If you want a movie to look exactly the way you want then make one yourself.
Yall won't let them, because their political ways
If more people had Coy’s point of view, this world would be a merrier place. ❤️
Same thoughts Greg. Want Superman to succeed more than most, but in motion the shot looks wonky. Zoomed in not so bad on the official Superman Twitter. Just want DC to finally get its long over, due. Great show guys.
You need to be an empathetic person in order to be able to make a good movie. That’s why the best filmmakers tend to be left-leaning.
@@thechosenone9242 1000% facts
@@thechosenone9242yeah like David literally looks like Superman came off the comics and yet people say he doesn’t look like him. You just can’t please everyone
All he had to do was not use a wide angle lens. Superman & Lois had similar shots and none of them looked off because they kept the lens normal. I think it's the wide angle that's really hurting it.
@dejajade6726 It's one shot. The movie is not hurting because of it.
People really want this movie to fail
I love hearing Coy talk, that enthusiasm is absolutely infectious. I can't stand 90% of the online community, it's just a horrible cesspit of hate. The Snyder fans (not all of them of course) are probably the worst fanbase I've ever come across. The Internet, when it came along, unfortunately gave little weeds a virtual platform and space where they can act like a big boy and a bully, where they can unleash all their inner angst and rage, right from their bedroom. Something they cant do in the real world. Its sad.
Anyway.. Bring on Superman! 😂
The Superman flight clip is fine people blowing up for no reason
It's like anything Superman now is automatically somehow insulting Henry Cavill.
I will always disagree when people say that a films purpose is to be entertaining. To be entertained, means to be amused (that is the definition). The point of a film is actually to be compelling, which means to invoke interest and attention.
God everything coy said about the picture of Superman, I was jumping up and down with excitement, I'm the same way.
More of this
Taratino quote is the type of statement someone would say if they haven't seen dune 2 in IMAX!!!!!!!!
Right not every opinion is negative aswell, I think coy is just on twitter too much and everything on twitter is just negativity, that’s why I got rid of it years ago, it’s too much
@theosebuliba3260 Yea I don't do Twitter either. Not a fun space lol
Reinforcing why I stopped watching teasers/trailers _years_ ago...
The canera needs to move side to side. More dynamic. It looks like face is glued to camera. That will fix it.
I think it looks cool, you can see his speed and it’s just the camera stabilized on his face I think
I definitely agree that stylistic choice should be bold, but at the same time I want David to really come off well in every frame of this movie to sell him as the new Superman. I don’t mind the wide lense close up for a couple shots, but it better not be that way for every flying close up of him. People need to relax.
This is great! One of the most enjoyable conversations I’ve heard in a long time.
I just found my new favourite podcast... Well, this and Conan O’Brien Needs A Friend
Respectfully
Edit: don’t know how I forgot about this but we even saw him *suffering* a loss already over his robot companion in the same teaser
“It’s hYpOcRItICaL-“ no, it’s been years, its growth actually.
I think the conversation of therapy is such an interesting one. Thank you Greg for being open enough to share your experience with it.
