I am in a similar boat. Except I love animated Superman. No one except Margot Robbie's Harley Quinn or Andrew Garfield's Spiderman can make me excited for a live-action Superhero movie.
As someone born in the 1900s and was enamored with Beast Wars. I am furious that they just made another transformers movie rather than anything resembling the character driven parts of that show. Also it ushered in CGI cartoons! Put some respect on Beast Wars!

1:18:26 I personally believe the reason James Gunn never misses is b/c he is the only director reading comics for fun. No director would try to bring polkadot man to the big screen.
He's making movies he as a fan wants to see rather than movies he thinks audiences might go to the theater to watch. Small distinction, but important. He's not making movies with data about shit like where to put a fight scene, checking boxes, or throwing stuff in just because it's popular at the time. He's an artist making stuff he and they people helping him are excited to make, rather than someone trying to make a product to sell for profit. Movies ultimately are products, but they're art as well, and modern filmmaking puts heavy focus on the product at the expense of not just the art, but now the product as well.
He ultimately understands why people love comic books and why people love these stories. He's not like Christopher Nolan or Zack Schnyder were they almost feel embarrassed to be adapting a comic book story as it is. James gunns stories come from a place of obvious love and admiration for the stories he is adapting
@@alexanderforbes1452 Same as the guy who made Spiderman: Lotus and look how that turned out. M Night Shymalan who only makes films he writes himself, but he's hit n miss. Or any fan-film ever made which are made with passion. The real difference are some directors and projects just have it all: Skill, Creative Vision, Budget, Time and Staff. Also, remember it doesn't matter if it's a good adaptation or even a movie at all, because what really matters is a good promotion and marketing campaign. Thinking of Blade Runner 2049. If all it takes is passionate people then it would be easy.
@@lindon6066yes but that’s not really all it takes cause James gun clearly has the talent but I he passion makes him want what fans want like giving us pokadot man and staro the goat the conqueror also giving guy Gardner the shityest cut oat it’s clear he can write and knows what the people want
@ In an industry about making movies, passion is like a dime-a-dozen. It's like amateur video game developers who have great ideas but lack the skills to implement them. The Internet loves to blame bad media on a lack of passion, but then seem resolute that all the good things are a project of passion. Seriously, be real.
The worst thing than disliking a movie in theaters, it’s disliking it because of the audience around you. I feel your pain man… i really think Covid’s era where people were watching movies at home made everyone forget how to behave inside a movie theater
The only negative one I’ve had was while watching “the Creator.” Two little punks near the front of the IMAX were making noises during the beginning and waited till the very last shot of the film to make fart noises. It generally ruined my night because I loved that movie.
One of the saddest misused opportunities for Arcane was with Caitlyn. Was so hyped for her dictator arc. To see all her character growth from the first season be shattered from her hatred and how she would pick up the pieces and find her way through the rest of the story. But the very next episode there is nothing. She kinda just exists, she lost all momentum, and all the martial law stuff is already enforced. And I don't mind if she was tired of it all, we just never see her get to that point. The story goes from the entire city hyping her up after basically committing chemical warfare in the streets of Zaun, to her feeling like an uninteresting shell of her former self in an instant.
Sometimes they sacrifice interesting storylines for the sake of keeping them likeable and for the representation and shippers. And this is a main example of that😂so laaaame man.
Pretty much every point he made was valid, though, in my own opinion, the hextech storyline that encompassed 1/3rd of season 2 was better than the entirety of season 1. Vi's story never really did it for me to begin with, and the downward continuation of her and Catherine's story really just solidified my dislike for it. Watching the episode with Ekko and the conclusion between Jayce and Victor really made me wish this was the focal point of the entire series instead of the poorly done class warfare plotline
@ I’m a pretty big fan of Piltover vs Zaun but I definitely agree that the Jayce Viktor Singed plotline was the highlight of this season. Wish it got more room to breathe
@ They were on the right track by making it the conclusion of the series. A series about the Arcane just resonates with that type of story where people are learning the dark complex mysteries behind hextech, and they slowly learn their struggles between Piltover and Zaun are completely irrelevant (which is what ended up happening but it was done very poorly). They should've removed Ambessa and the warmongering stuff entirely, same with the werewolf plotline, and the black rose witches practically ruins the impact of Jayce and Ekkos stories unraveling the arcane by giving expose on a group that has already mastered the arcane. Imo the whole season should've been a slow burn to shift the focus of the story completely on the dangers of hextech and the arcane. I'm also very biased and a contrarian when it comes to season 1, but I even think they should've focused more on hextech and the arcane in season 1 - it basically took a backseat to a class warfare and sister drama, but it really feels like they had expanded plans for the series from the jump, but whoever was writing season 1 just got lost and obsessed with writing Vi and Jinx's story, yet you can see how the series as a whole was ultimately punished for that decision.
The best thing about Marvel Rivals is that its getting people to talk about Cloak and Dagger and maybe that means they'll finally get a modern comic run
James Gunn has the uncanny ability to make you look forward for things you never expected to be. I REALY want to see the banter between Guy Gardner with Supes. It is going to be like 1990 again :)
I don't get why people say this. It was fine, wasn't bad but it wasn't any better than any of the other episodes. I think people just like the French song montage lmao
@@Beaver_MondayThere’s plenty nuance to Ekko’s character. A different view at powder and their dynamic before the dance was great. Also Jayce’s side of struggle was cool as well. I think it’s the best episode in season 2 personally because Ekko is my favorite
I saw sonic fans being upset that the movie wasn't nominated for an oscar. I mean, it was a fine kids movie but it wasn't anything special. Wouldn't even call it a family movie
@@reklem2the only even possible thing it could have was a cgi nomination, but even then I don't think it makes it and I love the movie, it's just not an Oscar movie at all 😭
Marcus’ ability to have a continuous streak of good takes, then like several really bad ones out of nowhere never ceases to amuse me but you can’t help but love him for it. That’s the cosmonaut way.
Honestly it’s great because I generally never know what he’s going to think. He’s a great reviewer because you’ll definitely hear something you haven’t heard from others. Especially comic book stuff. I agree with a lot of his comments 100% but I also kinda wanted to smack him for his Romulus review💀
I am a hospice on call nurse and wanted to tell you how much I appreciated the videos they help me pass time as I'm driving him between patients keep up all the good work Y'all are hilarious😊
Ok what i will say for the Ekko episode: the purpose it serves is as a "final temptation" plotline. He's dropped into this idyllic paradise of a world where the only stain on it is Vi being dead where he's with his crush who isn't insane here, where there's peace between the undercity and main city, and where many long dead characters are not only alive but thriving and asks him "are your convictions strong enough to leave this and return to your piece of shit world in the hopes of making it better" and ultimately he answers yes and is rewarded by getting THE thing he needs to save the day.
It's the best episode by a mile, but at the same time it's hard to call it the "final temptation" when it's basically his first real appearance all season
@jeremytewari3346 you're right that he doesn't show up too much, but this continues from his season 1 stuff as well. Really MORE than his season 2 stuff. His season 2 stuff is more focused on his relationship with Heimerdinger, which kinda helps him realize the topsiders aren't all bad and that ALSO culminates in that episode
@ Ekko’s far and away my favorite character in the show and it’s crazy how little screen time he has. He’s basically gone from both Act 2s, and his presence in both Act 1s is fairly minimal. Love his arc and everything about it, the one character who I think they did flawlessly
The tangent on Superman is the most real thing I've heard a UA-camr say in years. That trailer got me choked up and I've watched it fifty times. I already have merch and I'm gonna be there day one and we've still got five fucking months to go. I'd honestly kill for a one hour video from you just about the Superman trailer.
literally. some people are calling it a cash grab but his experience with those kids in the theater is EXACTLY why we need this movie. i’ve been wanting some light shed on dc for years aside from batman & this may finally be it.
For literal decades I've been told "Krypto is corny." "Krypto doesn't work." "Krypto is little kid bullshit." I'm SO happy that James Gunn put Krypto into the movie AND kept him adorable.
For anyone wondering, he did cover Dandadan and JJK for a bit on the full catchup stream and really liked both of them (Both were rated 9/10). They were most likely cut for this video due to how short their reviews were and/or for copyright concerns.
i am gonna be so curious to know what he thinks of the rest of jjk because it is so catastrophically downhill from this point on that it makes the rest of the series worse
That's pretty cool. As a big jjk fan it's cool to see him enjoy it even though I was sure he wouldn't. I wish he'd talk about anime more but I don't think he watches that much.
@@dankerbell That's one of the takes of all time right there. Not gonna get into it but let's just say I disagree and leave it at that. There are already too many spoilers out there.
Marcus is on point with the Arcane bit. They didn't want to address the society turmoil plot. They wrote Jayce out of the council meeting in the opening act so they wouldn't have to address his deal with Silko, Jinx ruining it, Vi and Caitlyn knowing she ruined it, etc. Those are the facts that should define the plot.
I disagree. From season one to season two, things got bigger, for better or for worse. It was no longer JUST a story about two sides of the same city, it was about grander things that put those people to the test, whether they were from top or bottom.
I feel like the characters decisions would have made more sense if they had a third season. Like we needed more time to show Vi's decision and convincing to be an Enforcer, and how tf Caitlin becomes Hitler. Like we had such a huge time skip in the beginning and Powders insecurities and impulsivness are set up in the episodes beforehand. Then years later we see her as Jinx, she's processed all of these feelings and flaws in all the worst ways. It's believable because there was so much space in between. Vi's ignorance about what the world is like today makes sense because she was in prison the entire time...literally under a rock. Like if Vi and Caitlin split up and some time goes by where she is manipulated by Ambessa then MAYBE her role as a reluctant facist dictator would make more since. But in the second season all this shit happens in the span of what seems like months. There was so much shit I could see making more sense if we had more time to look at it. Hell we could have had a whole season of anomoly nonsense. The creators themselves said they wished they had more time to flesh out Viktor and Jayces timeline. I get that like maybe they should have seen this coming when they were only allowed another season. But as someone who went to school for animation. They most likely planned out a three season story, but were only allowed two. So I blame Netflix ultimately, because I love lesbians.
Sorry in advance for the long spiel, but the Superman trailer really helped me in it almost weirdly cathartic emotional way. We had to put my childhood dog down only a few days before I saw that trailer. I’m still really torn up, but it really helped me in a weird hopeful way tbh. Krypto’s appearance surprisingly got me kind of emotional. When I was a kid in my rural town riding bikes with my friends, my dad would always send off my dog to run the dirt roads and bring me home before sunset. (Usually in the summertime) and no matter what he’d always find me even if I was a mile or two away. Seeing Superman ask Krypto to “bring him home” struck something in my soul that I wasn’t expecting. I was originally kind of skeptical at the idea of including Krypto, but seeing a battered and bloody Superman calling for his dog meant a lot to me. And I didn’t even expect it to hit me that hard Ok personal lore dump over but I agree with you Marcus, I’ve never had a trailer hit me in the feels like this.
I’m going through something similar, my dog is getting old and his health worsened a few months ago and I’ve been stressing out and depressed and scared because I really thought I was going to lose him soon and honestly I may still. When the trailer came out I finally confronted so many feelings I was hiding and running away from and felt amazing afterwards. Rest in peace to your beautiful baby and I hope you enjoyed your time together, hope you enjoy the Superman movie as much I will❤
My Sonic 3 experience was the exact opposite. I went with 4 of my friends... the theater was the perfect balance of quiet/with reactions when a sick scene happened. Watching it was like a fever dream in the best way, with moments of pure hype sprinkled throughout.
Fr when I realized way back that they were possibly going with a Cait/Vi relationship route in S1 I was pretty excited, but when I saw them gut both characters in S2 I was pissed. Vi turning back on Cait after she starts her dictatorship could've been an interesting way to integrate the relationship subplot into the main Piltover/Zaun plot. It really is a case where if Caitlyn was male people would've been much more angry about this. Oh well.
lmao the isha section was so funny, such a strange character, i see people getting sad over her death and i'm so confused because she didn't do anything except die, i'm not saying mute characters can't be interesting but it definitely didn't help her
@@blingklameShe was a reflection of Jinx and the opportunity for her to fix her past vicariously through her. She was her tether to the real world and to change. Without her, Jinx and Vi would never have reconnected. Hell, if things played out as is without Isha, Jinx would have died in episode 3. Isha was crucial for Jinx and even partially Vi's development. She was a light in one of the darkest holes in Zaun.
@@upg5147 Yeah, I personally didn't LOVE isha, but most of the criticism comes from people just not caring about her rather than actually looking into how she helped to work stuff out for the story they were going for, I understand if they don't like those ideas or executions, but saying she's just there to explode is way over the top imo
It's so funny hearing Marcus say Secret Level was boring to watch except for one episode. I knew exactly which episode he was talking about before he even mentioned it lol
I definitely agree that Arcane's music videos felt more egregious in season 2, since as opposed to season one there's substance they build upon, but in season two the writers seem to treat the music videos AS the substance
There's a conspiracy theory that a decent chunk of those scenes were intended to be bespoke intros for each episode, but they pivoted to keeping the Enemy intro at a late point so had a bunch of spare music scenes to sprinkle about.
I think all of the problems that everyone has with Arcane S2 could've been easily fixed if they gave themselves more time. If they had another season or even just more episodes to fully develop the storylines and give them all a satisfying beginning middle and end, the season would be far less messy. Not sure why they were fine with ending this story after just 2 seasons. Still tho, even with all of the problems I have with S2, I still enjoyed it quite a lot!
Even the show runner Christian Linke said that he wishes that they had more time to tell the story. I don't know why they couldn't have more episodes or seasons but I hope they learn from the criticism of season 2. Keep in mind that Arcane is the first show he ever made. I still love it though
@penguin_yay1 My assumption is just that the show cost too much to make. Riot said they saw it as a kind of marketing expense, that they thought the cost was worth it for them, but you know there were still money men wringing their hands telling them they gotta cut the episode count. It's a shame but one of the reasons we loved it, the high production values, was probability to blame for the story not being given adequate time.
Yeah that’s the thing. The season isn’t even bad. There isn’t a character decision there that I disliked. It’s just that it absolutely should’ve been longer
@@alexanderforbes1452 My theory is that the cut was made before season 1 even released. I'm pretty confident about it, because we know that the whole pre production of season 2 was already concluded when season 1 aired on Netflix, so the choice of having 2 seasons instead of one, was made before Riot knew that the show had so much success it became mainstream and that investing more money into it was worth it. Pre production in animation includes: plot, script, storyboards, concept art, key art, voice acting work. So it's a lot of work already completed. Once they saw the success, it was already too late to add another season in time for the 3 years production deadline they gave the show. This would explain both the chaos in production(fired writers, tons of re-writes, tons of last minute cuts and edits, tons of re-thinkings of character designs, writers not knowing how the final product looked, Fortiche people not knowing how long certain episodes' final cut was etc...) and also why they immediately announced another show after the end of Arcane.
I’m so glad I’m not the only one frothing at the mouth for Superman. I’m about to crash out just thinking about how excited I am for that movie. SUPERMAN BABY WOOP WOOP
Hearing Marcus echo my exact thoughts on Arcane Season 2 felt great. As a latecomer to the show who only started watching it when 2/3rds if season 2 were released I was shocked to see the stark drop in quality. It's really annoying, too, considering how much I liked Vi in particular and the general Piltover/Zaun conflict.
People were talking mad s*it about the big Bat symbol on Absolute Unit but when he revealed the axe and then made the joke about not knowing where the nearest hospital was. Absolute Batman goes so hard. Same with the other books
@@leaffinite2001yeah exactly lol, everybody keeps saying that people hate the symbol ate their words when that happened but like... no, it still looks stupid, batman using his symbol as a weapon has been done before, only this time because he has a bigger one he has a bigger weapon waow i clapped when i saw it
I definitely prefer the livestream format. For all the points you added about the interaction and things you might’ve forgotten about but I also love the raw feel of a long cut down stream. The other videos are very well produced and I love those too but it’s a nice end-of-year treat to get a more authentic, easy going video
Arcane just needed more episodes or a season 3. I don't care how much they say they only envisioned 2 seasons, yeah there's no way bro. Season 2 was a rushed project that is a shell of season 1
Also they didn't have to fit all of this into the second season, like vi becoming a cop. She could've had hang ups and went after jinx herself cause no one can tell me that she couldn't be alluded to becoming a cop by the end. In this story she should've been zaun's enforcer like Vander then she becomes a cop like her game counterpart when the conflict is over.
56:20 Having your subject play behind you in slow motion worked out really well, so I could see that the Alien: Romulus section has a part where they misspelled COSTUME DESIGNER.
I think The Substance is also about how the decisions we make when we're young punish us when we're older. It's a deep deep movie that hurt my soul. Very effective
I was lucky enough to see The Substance's first ever showing at Cannes, where no one had any idea what they were getting into, not even a poster being out yet. We were all in this massive, extravagant theatre, full of studio execs, models, insiders, whatever, expecting a pretty okay horror film, and then we got THAT. No one was prepared. The audience was groaning and wincing the whole time, apparently a few even fainted and needed to be taken out. Every single gut wrenching moment was accompanied with incredulous laughter, or muttered "oh no's", other various exclamations of disbelief. And then the third act happens, where the excess is turned up as high as it could go. That was the make or break point for anyone watching, and I could feel a lot of the attendees breaking; except for me, and the assembly of other 20-somethings, in the back right corner furthest from the screen, who got in from waiting in the rush line. It felt like a movie made for only me to enjoy, one that had a message and a purpose, but that also remembered to just be FUN. I forget how long the applause was at the end, but I clapped until my hands hurt. When I got back home, I recommended it to everyone I know, and it's been so fun seeing it gain traction, and now be nominated for best picture! Love that it got a shoutout here
A thing I love about this new Ultimate universe is that The Maker immediately gets worried when he finds out Peter is Spider-Man because he considers Spidey *that* much of a threat to his plans. Also, *Fuck* this version of the Hulk. He's such a monster and it's great.
Ngl no idea what you’re talking about. Once Peter becomes spider-man the maker’s been locked up for like a month. That is unless you’re talking about him stopping Peter from becoming a hero but he does that for everyone he can so…
@@Mojomoud Well he is basically like Captain America he inspires people to do the right thing. Heroes, Villains or anti heroes they always consider his opinion which is why The Maker made sure he didn’t become a hero because having someone who can convert essentially anyone into their ally is a dangerous individual especially for The Maker who has been beaten multiple times when faced against a powerful alliance.
@@markercrayon457It’s been a minute since I read it but I think he’s talking about the threat level The Maker gave to each superhero he prevented from existing, and that he placed Peter/Spider-Man at number one
Arcane Season 2 just went, “Oh remember the conflict between Piltover and Zaun? Yeah forget that, the characters are gonna fight robots now.” *BRAVO VINCE!*
Seriously, most of the time I had no fucking clue what the fuck was supposed to be happening anymore. I didn't love the first season, but at least I knew where things were going. Season 2 was such an overload of stuff, it definitely feels like there's at least a season missing. So many plot points and character beats in such a short amount of time, I just couldn't give a shit by the end.
But the conflict between piltolver and zaun was still a big plot point. That whole conflict was how ambessa was able to rise to power in piltover and her rise led to her and viktor teaming up. The final battle was also what led to piltover and zaun uniting in the end against viktor and allowing sevika to become a council member. Piltover vs zaun wasnt forgotten at all
@@alexcoffey8804now that you say that, I wonder how much Arcane becoming canon to the League universe effected the story of season 2. Would that final act have been any different if it stayed a standalone project?
Every video I've seen of people talking about the Superman trailer really warms my heart because EVERYONE, including myself, had the exact same reaction when Krypto shows up and when Superman saves the little girl.
45:50 While I did love Season 2, I have to agree that the way that they sidelined Sevika was really weird. No reaction after Isha’s death, her interactions with Jinx, NOTHING. Like I get that the creators wanted to finish this show asap so that they wouldn’t spend a decade on this show, but damn, I wish we had more stuff.
@@Cerri22PG She really did feel like the Finn of the show (even though there already was a guy named Finn). Haven’t watched Rise of Skywalker, but I heard he gets horribly sidelined when it came to that film, like how Sevika did.
I was going to skip Agatha, I truly did not GAF. Y’all were right and it’s really good. It’s no Severance or anything but it’s easily one of the better MCU shows.
100% agree with everything in the arcane rant. I liked Ekko but yeah the Ekko take is so true. Also, the bit about the little girl being a figment of Jinx’s imagination is kinda cool if it wasn’t wrong 😂
I honestly came to the realization that I LOVED season 2 exclusively because the only plot line I cared about was the Viktor\Jayce\Hexcore one and was turned off by the Cait\Vi\Jinx bullsh1t after the first episode lol I'll say it, the whole Zaun\Piltover conclusion is authentic american liberal sh1t, I was so disappointed when the revolution plot line turned into nothing and all the obviously french revolutionary imagery that I'm way more familiar with(I'm european) turned out to be just pretty drawings.
Arcane Season 2 was the Spider-man 3 of video game animated adaptations. They knew they weren't getting a third season so they made the mistake of cramming too much into this season.
The first part of arcane season 2 is excellent plotwise. The fact that caitlyn is ruined by it sucks, but the plot of a foreign nation manipulating politically powerful individuals to make them do what the foreign nation wants is a really good plot
My opinions on Arcane S2 are basically 1. Vander shouldve stayed dead and by extension Warwick shouldnt have been included 2. Mel's entire plotline couldve gone away and nothing of value wouldve been lost
I'm fine with Warwick being in the show, and even with him triggering a sort of redemption for Jinx but I think they giga-fumbled it in execution. I've also never cared about Mel at all, and her story was 100% a corporate mandate so that they could add her to the game.
The moment Arcane season 2 had Vi dye her hair black and then copy the Cyberpunk 2077 music video transition from the beginning of the game was when I knew it was going to be rough go.
Arcane season two really pulled a samurai Jack. Had so much going for it, everything was just kind of falling into place, and then they blew it in the finale because they weren’t given enough episodes to tell the story that they probably actually wanted to tell. I don’t think it was as egregious as samurai Jack just because the episodes were longer, but samurai Jack is certainly the first thing that made me think of.
yeah when i watched pantheon after arcane, not sure how long after i thought its season 2 had a better finale(season 2 of pantheon is on youtube and i know netflix will probably get season 2 but in the meantime youtube is your friend)
Samurai Jack could have easily finished the story in the time it had, but they decided to sidequest, then betray the theme of the season for Gendys pet character, and then rob Jack and us of a happy ending anyway
We’re going to need a full spoiler review of severance because I must know what Marcus thinks of all the plot twists and details it’s such a masterpiece of film making
As a massive fan of the Alien franchise who only really liked the first two movies until seeing Romulus, I have to say my man does not give the film enough credit. I think some of his points are valid, I'm not about to call him a contrarian (that's a bit played out at this point), but I will put my defense for the film (in relation to the points made here) forward. Rain and her android are new, endearing characters, something that has been lacking from the previous 4 films in the franchise. This film showed me plenty of new things, namely the action setpieces. Trying sneak past facehuggers (or any sort of xenomorph for that matter) is not something I've seen in any of the films, and that scene was tense as fuck. The climax with a zero gravity acid tunnel to navigate was very inventive. I also haven't seen a space station be ground to bits by a planetary ring. Romulus has new ideas. If it were simply a nostalgia trip, I doubt it would've tied into covenant and prometheus, something that (while don't like those two films) excited me as a fan that is invested in the lore. 4/10 is fucking criminal.
Dude literally I have no idea why he’s hating on it so hard. There are def callbacks maybe even a bit too many but it’s like he ignores all of the amazing parts of the movie.
The movie wasn't bad at all, technically it's a well-made movie. The problem is that the movie doesn't have a personality of its own; it feels like it's trying to combine the original alien and Cameron's sequel. And I think it's a very lazy way of filmmaking. Evil Dead Rise also had the same problem. It combined the campy Raimi movies and the 2013 remake and while doing so it doesn't feel like the movie has a voice of its own.
The risk of a bad experience at movie theaters is a big reason why I enjoy going to see Christopher Nolan films, even if I can be way more critical of him than a lot of his fans. There's just something about going to see a movie with a crowd that treats a night at the theater as an important event. Chuckles at all the right moments, gasps at others, and applause when the credits start rolling. Yes, there are plenty of other directors who have those loyal fans that treat their films like art, but most of them struggle to get out of limited release, much less play in premium IMAX theaters.
This! Yes, the movie and the soundtrack was just such a good vibe.. stuck with me for a while, even when to some berlin style raves inspired this experience haha The beginning of 2024 was promising, watched Iron claw, Dune 2 and Challangers..omg
An entire video of reviews and the best part was the end, with all the hype and love for the new Superman. That and recognising Cristin Milioti from 30 Rock and not HIMYM. Love to see it!
That story about those kids locking in for the Superman trailer made me so hopeful. Also I think the Michael Bay TMNT movies would be good for a picture show or two.
It’s so compelling too! In the most recent issue when he’s explaining everything it’s pretty silly, then when you see who he’s talking to it’s fucking insane.
The arcane part of this video is perfect. I knew Vi’s character played a much smaller role in the story but the fact about her love interest is eye opening.
1:03:30 the hypest movie moment of the year for me was that final time Patrick gestures with the ball. The movie has so much aura that a _gesture_ can spear you through the chest
"We were going to make them endgame. So we had to make, for me, the most satisfying things are the journeys that are most difficult to come by. I was like, 'Well, we’ve got to make this as hard as possible. If Caitlyn’s an enforcer, what if enforcers killed Vi’s parents?' That was something we invented in the first week of the room so they would have the hardest possible journey to come together." -Lead Writer Amanda Overton in an interview with Gizmodo admitting that the police brutality was just a backdrop to make CaitVi more angsty
Omg 15:00 minutes in and dude this exact thing happened to me! Me and 3 coworkers went to watch this movie and I think it was some kids birthday and there were so many teenagers screaming and cussing and I just sat there thinking... How can you be a parent and not be embarrassed lol. I can see why people don't go to theaters anymore.
I actually thought Alien Romulus was alright. Maybe I’m just spoiled, because I’ve only ever seen the first 2 Alien movies before. So this movie just feels like the Back To The Future Part III of a 50 year long trilogy. Rain & Andy’s relationship is what carried it for me honestly. I don’t mind when characters in horror movies are disposable as long as the leads are interesting. And seeing Rain keep a balance of using Andy’s new abilities while making sure he doesn’t fully devote himself to the Company was a a dynamic I haven’t seen in the Alien movies before. Again I’m only talking about the first two movies because I use the same logic that Marcus has about the Terminator movies. And yes, the dead actor recreation & pointless callback to a line that hasn’t even been said yet were distracting. But I thought there were a bunch of unique set pieces in this movie. The thermal sensing Facehuggers. The floating acid blood. The elevator sequence. Grappling through a while cargo ship as it falls around me Lost World style. On top of the crazy Jeff the Killer alien. Dude, this movie’s great if you haven’t seen the movies past two. Its like a good blend of the first & second movie for me. Or maybe I’m just spoiled because the Alien Isolation game will always be my favourite Alien thing ever & I’m comfortable saying they’re never going to top it.
Romulus was legit my favorite Alien movie right up until Rook showed up. Then all the callbacks suuuuuucked. the pulse rifle is an edge case cause while I wasn't a fan of it showing up at all, it did lead to that zero g acid scene which was delightful.
ive only ever seen the first movie and romulus and yeah i thought it was a fun movie! my friend who's seen all the alien movies also enjoyed it. i will say, the fan service was REALLY egregious and took me out of a lot of moments (so i cant imagine what someone who's seen all of them felt like) and the AI of a dead actor really rubs me the wrong way, plus only the two main characters had anything going for them, but id give it like a 6/10.

And this is a main example of that😂so laaaame man.
that arcane rant was so vindicating it was healing honestly
Hearing someone say they didn't give a shit about the blue baby brought me so much joy

And I didn’t even expect it to hit me that hard
Ok personal lore dump over but I agree with you Marcus, I’ve never had a trailer hit me in the feels like this.

The Isha section and the Vi/Girlfriend comment are so spot on.
Oh well.

Yeah I fully agree, needed more breathing room. I still liked it a lot too but it's sadly not as clean as season 1.
Severance is the greatest show ever!!!!!!

Each 3 episode felt like a whole season worth of content
Haven’t caught up is it Bruce or his dad
@ It’s Bruce, but what they do with him is interesting.
I could definitely *feel* the League of Legends in season 2.
Arcane season 2 literally felt like a collection of AMVs on par with the cinematic trailers they put out for League seasons
Every video I've seen of people talking about the Superman trailer really warms my heart because EVERYONE, including myself, had the exact same reaction when Krypto shows up and when Superman saves the little girl.
Marcus's Superman monologue is one of the best things I've seen this year so far :D
I unironically want a Bluey breakdown from Cosmonaut
45:50 While I did love Season 2, I have to agree that the way that they sidelined Sevika was really weird. No reaction after Isha’s death, her interactions with Jinx, NOTHING. Like I get that the creators wanted to finish this show asap so that they wouldn’t spend a decade on this show, but damn, I wish we had more stuff.
i thought it was because it was too expensive for netflix
Yeah, I'm on the same boat cause I actually started to really like Sevika en her relationship with Jinx to then never see it actually finish
That’s not a very high bar
@ lol fair. MCU shows are pretty mid. It’s almost up there Loki imo
Have to admit Witches Road is a catchy as hell song.
It just has style and that's already a big factor when comparing it to the other MCU shows, I personally loved it
100% agree with everything in the arcane rant. I liked Ekko but yeah the Ekko take is so true. Also, the bit about the little girl being a figment of Jinx’s imagination is kinda cool if it wasn’t wrong 😂
Do you ever think if Citizen Kane had a licensed video game, it’s fans would call it the new Sonic The Hedgehog
Marvel ultimate alliance got me back into comics when I was young. If marvel rivals does that for kids, I'm happy for them.
I'm actually so happy to hear your review of arcane finale. Had to make sure I wasn't the only one that was suuuuper dissapointed.
I honestly came to the realization that I LOVED season 2 exclusively because the only plot line I cared about was the Viktor\Jayce\Hexcore one and was turned off by the Cait\Vi\Jinx bullsh1t after the first episode lol
I'll say it, the whole Zaun\Piltover conclusion is authentic american liberal sh1t, I was so disappointed when the revolution plot line turned into nothing and all the obviously french revolutionary imagery that I'm way more familiar with(I'm european) turned out to be just pretty drawings.
Was the Fell of of the 2024
Dude now you’re making me hope the superman movie sucks just so I can get more Buffy content.
If Superman rules, can we have a second channel for Marcus talking about Buffy? I’m so here for Buffy channel
Arcane Season 2 was the Spider-man 3 of video game animated adaptations. They knew they weren't getting a third season so they made the mistake of cramming too much into this season.
I'm gonna watch the entire video in full, but I'm still upset this didn't have timestamps lmao
Just added!

The pacing of arcane season 2 is so ahhh it pisses me off
you can say ass
season 1 was PERFECTTTTTT season 2 was so bad in comparison
The first part of arcane season 2 is excellent plotwise. The fact that caitlyn is ruined by it sucks, but the plot of a foreign nation manipulating politically powerful individuals to make them do what the foreign nation wants is a really good plot
My opinions on Arcane S2 are basically
1. Vander shouldve stayed dead and by extension Warwick shouldnt have been included
20:55 Tbf, "Yo, this shit is gay" is pretty fucking hilarious
I would’ve died laughing in the theatre😭
funny, but maybe not the right place lol
@@RisingJayThey're kids, what do all of ud expect lol.
Markus said he isn’t doing Rise of the Beasts. He didn’t say he won’t do the 86 movie.
we won.
@ who’s we and what did we win?
when Marcus mentions “taking ur vitamins and eating ur vegetables” thats when you know he gon start talkin bout a FILM, not a movie
16:34 Marcus's inner old man was showing here and I'm HERE for it😂
cutting from "a light still shines, even though the star is gone" to jim carrey spanking himself was some neck-breaking whiplash
The moment Arcane season 2 had Vi dye her hair black and then copy the Cyberpunk 2077 music video transition from the beginning of the game was when I knew it was going to be rough go.
And we didn’t even get a goth Vi skin for Wild Rift.
30:39 watching Marcus's take made me realize I need to do yoga more often
Thank you 4/10 is crazy !! Should be at least 7.5 or 8 could be more but 4 !! Nah that's too damn low
Yeah, it should have been lower lol
We deserve good and original alien films
Based on Marcus’s review, I don’t think he would have been happy with anything. Romulus was very fun, awesome movie theater experience
Completely agree with everything in the Arcane section
The risk of a bad experience at movie theaters is a big reason why I enjoy going to see Christopher Nolan films, even if I can be way more critical of him than a lot of his fans. There's just something about going to see a movie with a crowd that treats a night at the theater as an important event. Chuckles at all the right moments, gasps at others, and applause when the credits start rolling.
Yes, there are plenty of other directors who have those loyal fans that treat their films like art, but most of them struggle to get out of limited release, much less play in premium IMAX theaters.
I am so glad I am not alone with Challengers being the best movie of 2024. The cinematography and soundtrack alone deserve a standing ovation.
This! Yes, the movie and the soundtrack was just such a good vibe.. stuck with me for a while, even when to some berlin style raves inspired this experience haha
The beginning of 2024 was promising, watched Iron claw, Dune 2 and Challangers..omg
I love the cuck movie ❤️
An entire video of reviews and the best part was the end, with all the hype and love for the new Superman. That and recognising Cristin Milioti from 30 Rock and not HIMYM. Love to see it!
That story about those kids locking in for the Superman trailer made me so hopeful.
Also I think the Michael Bay TMNT movies would be good for a picture show or two.
@44:32 Thank you for making me not feel like the only person who despises Isha and what her purpose is in the story.
There’s something really funny about watching penguin and his mom dance to Animal Crossing music
Absolute Batman is so goofy and I love it, the fact that his logo turn into an axe is just the best
I feel like I’m living in a different world when people say arcane season 2 is just as good as season 1
one of my friends told me it was better before i had a chance to watch it 💀
I liked 2 way more personally.
20:42 In his defense that's funny af
That kid is a leyend 🤣
No it's not. It's like the most obvious cringe shit he could have said and he said it.
Arcane season 2 just removed the entire tension of the class struggle in season 1, and it was worse for it
I actually thought Alien Romulus was alright.
Then all the callbacks suuuuuucked.
the pulse rifle is an edge case cause while I wasn't a fan of it showing up at all, it did lead to that zero g acid scene which was delightful.
ive only ever seen the first movie and romulus and yeah i thought it was a fun movie! my friend who's seen all the alien movies also enjoyed it. i will say, the fan service was REALLY egregious and took me out of a lot of moments (so i cant imagine what someone who's seen all of them felt like) and the AI of a dead actor really rubs me the wrong way, plus only the two main characters had anything going for them, but id give it like a 6/10.
i've also only seen the first two but i also don't remember any of them so i might be biased but i didn't think it was bad either
