I have been fascinated by this astronomical clock ever since seeing its picture some years ago. Thanks for making this video detailing it’s history and mechanism. Bravissimo👍👍
I live in Prague for over 30 years and never actually looked at that clock as a time keeping device but as a tourist attraction because of all the wild mix of hands, numbers, symbols, pictures and moving figurines. Even after watching this video I still can't tell the time😬Luckily on the top of the tower there is a classic analogue clock for that😄
Thanks for an excellent video.Indeed an amazing clock. The mechanism and automatons from a few hundred years ago, the renovations since and ongoing. . Amazing what was constructed so long ago and not a smart phone.
Thanks for this very interesting report! I was already in Prague and visited this clock but I was never aware of that it was THAT complicated even though it actually looked complicated enough 😅 Amazing and awesome that this watch and building still exists today! All the very best to you!
The dial is based on a geocentric model, since it represents what you see in the sky from the point of view of a terrestrial observer. Since the sidereal day is defined as starting at noon, not midnight, sidereal time is actually indicated by the fall equinox, not the vernal equinox.
I was recently in Prague for the first time and discovered they have an amazing horological history with some really cool watch brands! You guys should check it out and maybe do a video about it! Saw some amazing timepieces
What an amazing clock. You should take a peek at the clock at Hampton Court Palace. Still a Royal palace, so you might need permission to film. Thank you Marc Andre.❤️🙏🇬🇧
I have noticed something: Orloj is using roman IV on its main dial (twice), also the white dial "simple clock" on the side has IV. Why the animation is using roman numeral IIII, when the real thing is using IV?
Both ways are correct. IIII is used on 12 hours dials for nicer symmetry. But IV can be used as well, and since we have 24 hours dial here, the symmetry between IIII and VIII is not the problem.
@@DavidKnespl I did not said something is incorrect. You probably misunderstood what I am asking. I try to ask again, and maybe someone else can answer: why the computer animation (7:12) is using IIII when the actual thing (1:11) is using IV? Orloj is unique and I assume the computer animation shown in this video was made specifically for it: then why is this different?
Thanks for making this video! Great to see Prague featured here and well done for sourcing the expert’s explanation and history lesson
Very happy you enjoyed it and yes we were very lucky that a friend was able to put us in contact with this great expert! Thanks
Thank you for the wonderful video touring and explaining the intricacies of the clock.
Well done. I have seen pictures of that clock before but did not know what it all means. Thank you for the informative tour.
Glad it was helpful and thanks very much for the comment.
Fantastic > Just great ! this is what we believe is horology in pure sense ! Thank you !
Glad you enjoyed it!

Like Prim for example. It’s kind of 2 separate companies one china one true Czech. I own one of them is cheaper but nice design watch;)
You're absolutely right, Prim is very interesting and always wanted to do something about them. Soon we hope!
Wow cool to see hello from prague :) ❤
Nice, and thanks for looking at us!! Best to you
I spent 8 months in Prague shooting a movie and i used to sit by this clock marvelling at both it and the price for the coffee i was dinking!
Ah nice story, thanks for sharing this memory with us!

@@watchestv-com Always welcome old friend.
Fascinating, a clock for a city to be proud of.
This is amazing
Thanks!
The fact the king killed the man who made the clock just so he can’t make it again for anyone else …. Sad truth of the Prague clock
Yes, the downside of being a genius... The very best to you and thanks for sharing
Remarkably cruel
Not true. Just a legend.

This could be a great series of famous clocks in cities around Europe?
It's been a long time I wanted to do this indeed!!! And there are so many fascinating ones
2 season only in my country
