Let's be honest bro! The Lebron GOAT campaign mainly relies on 2 arguments, Longevity and Stats. Lebron has played his last 10 yrs in the softest, weakest NBA era ever, where point guards are grabbing 10 rebs/game and getting triple doubles, this is the biggest stat padding era ever. Lebron also benefits from modern medicine on top of this soft era, which the older generations never had... they used to take commercial flights for Christ sake! I will give him many props on the fact that he takes care of his body better than any player before him. With that being said, the GOAT argument for Lebron is a joke.

So context is just valid when benefit Lebron's case. For me the biggest things in Jordan's favor are: winning record in finals (I'm sorry but the GOAT can't have a losing record in the biggest stage no matter what "context" you put him on); hardware and league leading numbers by season; excelence on both sides of the court ( I'm not saying that Lebron's a bad defender but Michael was better ); and finally, for me, MJ was a better leader. All being said, if someone want to say Lebron is the Goat, I'm totally fine with it, and will never try to convince them otherwise, and that's the respect that Lebron deserves.

  • @botaco

You give the ball to MJ make the last shot, but you give the ball to LB to make the last play. But the stats back up that LB turned out to be a better clutch player. I believe I would prefer to have Jerry West take the last shot. The Miami lost to San Antonio was due more to the coach not knowing how to coach Wade and James at the same time. In the first year of Wade and James together they tended to alternatively having the ball. A more experienced coach would have made adjustments so that they played in a more unified fashion. Also, Miami did not have a big three; more like a 2.5 because Bosh was not a great playing and did not have good shot selection. He shot too far from the basket and that hurt his rebounding effectiveness. James never had an outstanding coach until he played for the Laker; while MJ had arguably one of the two best coaches ever. There is not a GOAT but there are many GOATS in the NBA: Chamberlain, Jabbar, West, Baylor, Robertson, Jordan, James, Russell, Pettit, Bryant, Johnson, O’Neal.

Mom gets murdered, goes to an entirely different SPORT, comes back and wins ANOTHER 3 peat. All 6 Finals MVP. One team, one jersey. Never allowed a game 7. No losses. Never froze. 10 scoring titles. 9 time defensives. Hit the highest peak in the history of the game. Vast majority of the world acknowledges him as the GOAT. Then a new kid comes along, loses 6 finals. Hops around team to team to barely win 4. I’m taking the guy that will have 40 points, 12 rebounds, and 10 assists over the guy that has 55 points, 3 assists, and 3 rebounds. The former is contributing to the game in a much more impactful way that is conducive to winning; UNLESS your team is really inefficient and unable to score. LeBron just does more and has a higher level of versatility. One player can set you up for success to close a series and seal the game when necessary, the other can just seal the game in terms of scoring. There’s so many other factors to this debate, but LeBron has checked off just about every box when it comes to the criteria (though, people keep moving the goalpost about what that criteria is), and then some. Four championships, #1 All-Time Scorer (Playoffs & Regular Season), the most playoff-wins in NBA History, the most playoff-points in NBA History, 17 All-NBA selections, 18 All-Star selections, the first player to have 37,000+ points + 10,000+ rebounds, 10,000+ assists, etcetera. I mean, come on. He has done the unthinkable, and these are things that guys who played just as long as him did not accomplish. That closes the case for me.

Jordan is the Goat 🐐!! But It’s a lot closer now than it was before. If we just break their games down , it’s a lot of things Lebron does average in his game but his physical talents makes up for it. Not a consistent jump shooter from midrange, doesn’t have a go to move, never been a dominant post scorer and struggled in the post until recently, below average free throw shooter. Not until maybe last year was the first time ppl want to count his Wizards years. Yet he was the best player on the team and if not for injury leads wizards to playoffs. When your in the top 5, we have to judge you on the Prime of your career. Jordan was a more dominant player in his prime than Lebron. Let’s just say for James 2009-16 and Jordan 91-98. And ppl try to discredit Kobe for winning early in his career, like he worked to be that great. Blame Bron for not getting to the finals in 09 because it would’ve truly ended the Kobe debate. I know Kobe hated the fact him and Magic got more rings than Lebron but the media elevated him to Jordan status. And Kareem should laugh at all of them .

I agree with just about every thing you said, but with Lebron just now having another championship and finals mvp, don’t you think that extends the true length of his prime? Sure he’s not the same player as 2013 Lebron physically, but you can tell he’s stronger mentally, and still above average dominant physically even at his current age. Just like if Jordan was winning out on those wizard teams, don’t you think we extend his prime in that case too? I say this because that’s the only way I see the Lebron goat debate winning out, playing at a level of sustained greatness over the course of 20 with let’s say 6/12 in the finals instead of the 9 really good seasons (6/6 finals) MJ gave us

How can you hold it against lebron that he played for longer? Isn't that the crux of the argument itself? The fact that lebron could do the things he does for as long as he has, should be a proponent of the argument.

Jordan started winning and didnt stop... WITH THE GREATEST TEAM OF ALL TIME!! He had the best coach of all time, best defender of all time and in second 3-peat he had the best rebound of alltime... stop compare players without putting on perspective the context they were in.
