Sanji’s eyebrow is a good example for that, though some argue that there are cosplayers that allegedly manage it all the time (no they don’t, it may look great on one photo from a convention, but IRL it always sucks). Plus, if you integrate the eyebrow, you must also be sure that for every shot of him, you never see Sanji’s left eye neither… Good luck with that on a live action shooting schedule. So, yeah, it’s a pity, I agree, but I totally get why they called it quits on this one. Talking about Sanji’s character, I think it’s 99% sure that because of censorship he will not have his iconic cigarette smoking (and I try not to imagine what will happen to the Colonel Smoker’s cigars double trouble). What would also happen to his shenanigans towards women in the context of a show with real people is yet unknown… I would say though that this aspect of his personality in the manga is, paradoxically, mostly empowering to the female characters of OP because it makes him extremely dumb, causing him only troubles. He’s always been psychologically abused and taken advantage of by smart women that makes him their plaything, or simply beat the shit out of him every time. @@vincentdeluca4485 I feel like anime is in that awkward space super hero movies used to be where no one cracked the formula yet. Anime adaptations have been getting better in recent years and tbh should be easier to nail down then most American comics sine they typically only have a single authorr and not dozens of different interpretations. If the mcu and DC can put out stuff like king shark, ego the living planet, swamp thing and the eternals, anime shouldn't be that much harder to adapt
This trailer was actually really good. I liked the humor and it didn't seem forced either. One Piece is known for its story building and characters so as long as thats good this will defintely succeed.
@@KyosukeShido yeah the interaction between the crew actually seem real and authentic. I guess it helped that they all lived together for almost a year while filming
there are many aspects that makes One piece successful such as the fleshed out characters almost all of them have the saddest backstories, the landscapes they're absolutely fucking beautiful and much MUCH more
It's doesn't matter how many times you tried you can't replicate anime well enough in real life, you need to have a real life elements on it, so something like Usopp's nose or Sanji eyebrows doesn't bother me at all, what i'm really concern about is the Writing, acting and CGI.
They shouldn’t they should keep things as close to the story but you can’t replicate 1for1 even comics struggle with that unless the characters look extremely human like
Right? Trying to make everything 1:1 as in the anime/manga is completely pointless and looks terrible, it just doesn’t translate well, hence the adaptation. I’m betting my kidney stones it’s going to be an absolute train wreck, other then the slew of references which I’m sure fans will love, but god damn I have no faith in Netflix.

Overall I’m really excited and also thankful that the cast seems to really care about the show and characters since their dynamic was so great during the Netflix-event it really left me for wanting more 😂
100% agree: as fans we should WANT tgis to succeed. If it does well, it WILL lead more people to read the manga or watch the anime, and will help the fandom grow. Also, if it's good, it's something we can actually show our friends and family who aren't into anime or manga at all to give them a taste as to why we love this series so much. I personally can't imagine introducing my parents to the OP anime, but a live action show could be a bridge towards that.
Longtime fans and newcomers need to understand they're gonna change things, things will be skipped entirely in the name of runtime. It's just gonna happen. And it shouldn't ruin what is so far from what I can see a very INSPIRED and good looking project, that compared to other live action adaptations of animation, actually gets me kind of hopeful and hyped at the same time.
EXACTLY. This live action is something I can show my family who isn’t interested in anime at all, and the one person who is, said one piece is just too goofy looking. Legit, this adaptation is what I need something I can watch and share with my family.
You can clearly tell the Gum Gum Pistol's CG is comical on purpose Oda made Luffy's powers to be funny and silly, and they probably kept this idea with a """bad""" cgi. Like, look at that King of the Sea, that's another whole level This means they're maintaining the essence of the story, not trying to turn it into some serious and dark shit nor some Marvel Blockbuster action series
The shot where the Lord of the Coast is staring at Shanks looks great, probably because of the water raining down. But the whole body shot looks very weird. Something about the lighting and the reflections, I dunno. The stretching looks plausibly weird, but I'm more afraid of the Gum Gum Baloon. Overall it meets the expectations, even Disney budgets have been having trouble with CGI so I wouldn't expect blockbuster like quality... Besides, the set pieces more than compensate for the bad CGI.
@@keflalssj "bad" CG is a very distorted conception on the term nowadays. CGI can be perfectly good and still don't be realistic, even more when it fits well with the context, and that's the case
Since Oda was heavily involved in the production I feel really good about this live action. I've gotten really attached to the cast and even if they do change the source material a little bit I wouldn't really mind since I have full faith in Oda. I'm also really glad to see how much you're enjoying One Piece since it is my favorite anime.
I'm concerned about how they are gonna fit the villains. The pacing scares me, but hopefully not that much of the plot is changed to fit. Cast is great tbh!
Definitely feel like there will be better pacing since having real actors stretched over 20 episodes would probably be more costly than Toei’s somewhat poor animation quality
8 episodes and 1 hour per one is around 24 anime episodes plus this show doesn't have to stretch and drag like anime so I think one villain per episodes will do fine
@@rocketdino3206 The pacing wasn't that much of a problem early on. Fitting the entire East Blue Saga in 8 episodes is too short, they're definitely cutting out a lot of character development scenes which flesh them out. For example, I absolutely love the dog scene in Buggy's arc, and I almost guarantee it won't be in this even though it's imo essential in how we and Nami view Luffy. This will be fine for the One Piece fan that already knows the characters personalities and relationships with each other, but I feel like the mainstream audience will be missing out on a lot.
@@Triattt Episodes that the villains need more than one episode are Arlong, Don Krieg and Buggy. Kuro could be knocked out in an episode. Alvida could be cut entirely and Morgan could be shortened drastically.
@@Triattt kinda yes and no, there were quite a lot of dragged out scenes like in syrop village, the fight was quite long. In baratie the encounter with Don Krieg was long as well. In Arlong Park Luffy is literary underwater for several episodes, so there is definitely stuff which can be shortened.
@@heck6757 They're shown doing the barrel scene, so I'm guessing it will stop before their meeting with Laboon. Can you imagine how awful it would be to cram all that content in a single movie? I'm already hiffy on just 8 episodes.
I have never seen the anime and know nothing about it. To me this looks like a fun show. Stretching powers never look good live action, even Marvel can’t get it right. For me if they make this super camp and lean into the ridiculous of it I think it will do well. This trailer was giving me live action Alice in Wonderland but with pirates, I don’t know if that is what One Piece is, but I’m open to it.
I am hopeful and exited for this, honestly I’m surprised it’s coming soon but I will be ready to set sail. Also I really hope a version of We are is the theme of the show for sure
The problem with live action adaptation is a lot of Hollywood movies try to be "realistic" and serious. I am excited for this one because it seems they are keeping the humor and the cgi looks like it still fits in the world of One Piece so I am excited
I think this One Piece live action is gonna be great. Not perfect BUT great Also, I think it will take some time to get used hearing the characters because we always hear the Japanese VA in anime But what i really want from this OP live action is the character dynamics. The interaction because that is what we love about One Piece, the Straw Hats bond. I don't care about how they adapt, i just want to see the actors portray each of their characters. I have no problems with the CGI, the visuals looks great The CGI, vfx can be a little bit wonky or bad sometimes but you know, it is what it is
I'm feeling somewhat fearful still. It seemed promising though!! We do have to take into account that a Live Action can never be a 1:1 with the official product, that's just impossible. Live actions often have misleading trailers. So I'm trying to be hopeful, but not have too many expectations both in quality and accuracy. Either way, I LOVE One Piece, have loved it for so long. So however it may turn out, I will definitely watch this!
Oda knew that during the production process and has intensively worked with the whole production to get it right and nailed down for the western adaption. And it looks like from what I saw has helped paid off this trailer I saw has the heart of one piece in it and feels like one piece but different. Which is good. I can't wait now honestly!
i feel bad for people that actually think this is good, it really proves people will just immediately like it cause its OP. But this is absolutely HORRENDOUS, shit cinematography, shit choreography, shit acting, everything looks off... its gonna be canceled after season 1.... 100%
I'll support this just like how I support One Piece. This is how I love this anime and to respect those who are no longer here with us that really love this anime.
It looks really good so far im hoping the show will live up to the hype the only things im a little upset about is Usopps nose and Sanjis eyebrows but they arent superrrrrr important just wouldve been a nice detail (at first I was also worried about luffys face scar but I think you can kind of see it if you look closely)
As a Japanese, I'm kinda wondering if the Japanese version will have the original cast to do the dub. I generally prefer watching American shows in subs, but if the original cast is doing the dub, I might watch the Japanese version.
Finally someone who watched it with the same reaction I had... People are complaining about things, and this could be another wonderful experience. I expect good things, and if it doesn't happen, we still have the anime and manga
So fun fact! The "different" outfits you're pointing out ?? They're actually outfits Oda sensei drew them in on the cover art panels for certain issues !
The actor for Sanji looks like a grown man compared to the others. When the casting was released i had been saying that he doesn't look the part..and i got trolled for saying it.
My expectations are not high since it’s Netflix but I enjoyed the trailer. They’re going for a different vibe which is the right path to go when adapting something like OP to a Live Action. Also I love the cast. I know how hard they worked to get in their roles. Hoping for the best 🙏🏽
I'm was pleasantly surprised by this trailer, and the CGI is a lot better than I thought it was going to be. The Sea King looks really impressive, and I love the look they gave Buggy. I get the feeling Luffy won't be kicking Buggy in the balls in this adaption.
i would have botched every take by saying "gomu gomu no" gum gum is so extremely extra childish i can't take it seriously. gum has a different connotation in japanese.
I'm...cautiously optimistic. The casting is very good, you can tell that the people behind it cared a lot about the project, and Oda being heavily involved is another good sign. I'm still not sure it's a necessary adaptation, but if it brings in even more fans to Oda's wonderful creation, then I'm all for it. :)
I love the chemistry. I love that they all seem to kind of hate each other and that they lamp-shaded the attack name thing. Because I think they had to. But I dont think the stretching looks good. I have to see on a big screen when the VFXs are finished. Buggy looks terrifying! Apparently we will see Zoro kill Mr. 7. That's the dude in red he's fighting
I want it to succeed. But I'm also very aware of how live action anime usually turns out. That being said, the CGI in this show looks on point! Zoro looks slick af! Buggy is 1 to 1! I'm kinda eh about Nami, Usopp, Sanji and Luffy, but they might surprise me. I just hope that with Nami, they don't just make her a brat. She's never portrayed like that and this trailer didn't do much for her character. She's greedy, selfish, and manipulative, sure, but she loves what she does.
@@SimpleDre91 Not nice, agreed. But you rarely saw her outwardly angry or mopey. She preferred to force a smile to earn people's trust so she can rob them later. Manipulation.
I love Nami's actress but I also found we didn't see much of her character in the Teaser. She is definitely more expressive than what we've seen and yeah, faking smiles, lying in oder to get what she wants. But I am hopeful as the actress really loves OP so much and identifies herself with Nami!
@@SimpleDre91 Maybe it's just been a while since Ive seen the East Blue arc. But I really don't remember her being so bratty. Then again, we don't get to see much of her in this trailer.
Luffy here gives more Tom Holland vibe than Luffy vibe xD The part "i'm sensing a little bit of tension amongs the crew" is something Tom Holland would say, but NEVER Luffy in the manga or the anime ;p But i wish the show the best, actros are as matched as it is possible.
I really want this to work and it's really sad when fans critic a live action adaptation to death. I like almost all of it especially the Zoro scenes which look really good. But I'm slightly worried about Luffy's gum gum power. The CGI on the sea king is pretty good but they have to nail down Luffy's devil fruit, both the acting and CGI, because we all know it just gets crazier as he goes along.
HOW ARE WE FEELIN' STRAW HATS?

Yeah, one piece is popular not because of the artstyle and definitely not because of its animation but because of the story

Yeah thats how I feel to, at the very least its looking like it will be worth existing lol, which is FAR more than other Live Action adaptations have given us.
Yes the live action is to celebrate Oda's greatness in storytelling
Idk that part with Zoro and Luffy was kinda cringe
the humor felt natural for sure and inaki is luffy the sets look good too
@@keflalssj u felt it was cringe because it wasn't animated, it's the same stuff they do in the anime
there are many aspects that makes One piece successful such as the fleshed out characters almost all of them have the saddest backstories, the landscapes they're absolutely fucking beautiful and much MUCH more
It's doesn't matter how many times you tried you can't replicate anime well enough in real life, you need to have a real life elements on it, so something like Usopp's nose or Sanji eyebrows doesn't bother me at all, what i'm really concern about is the Writing, acting and CGI.
The problem is that it’s live action watching a real person act like luffy feels weird

You can clearly tell the Gum Gum Pistol's CG is comical on purpose
Oda made Luffy's powers to be funny and silly, and they probably kept this idea with a """bad""" cgi. Like, look at that King of the Sea, that's another whole level
This means they're maintaining the essence of the story, not trying to turn it into some serious and dark shit nor some Marvel Blockbuster action series
Yeah it had some Kung Fu Hustle vibe. :D
…pretty sure the CGI is bad just because it’s bad. It makes no sense to do bad CGI on purpose
@@keflalssjexactly. Some just trying hard to just comment 😂
@DarkFlames69 real life swirly eyebrows would not look good
I'm concerned about how they are gonna fit the villains.
The only complaint I have is that Luffy seems to have an IQ.
"Im sensing a bit of tension amongst the crew" is out of character for luffy imo. He's mostly oblivous to stuff like that.

That is what I am hoping for as well!

It Literally IS One Piece!! Its been awhile and a Short While
The problem with live action adaptation is a lot of Hollywood movies try to be "realistic" and serious. I am excited for this one because it seems they are keeping the humor and the cgi looks like it still fits in the world of One Piece so I am excited
I think this One Piece live action is gonna be great. Not perfect BUT great
Also, I think it will take some time to get used hearing the characters because we always hear the Japanese VA in anime
But what i really want from this OP live action is the character dynamics. The interaction because that is what we love about One Piece, the Straw Hats bond. I don't care about how they adapt, i just want to see the actors portray each of their characters. I have no problems with the CGI, the visuals looks great
The CGI, vfx can be a little bit wonky or bad sometimes but you know, it is what it is
Am I the only one who don’t care about this at all despite loving one piece to death? Every live action is just terrible and cringe and just fails
Imagine if this trailer was scored with "Overtaken". How epic would that be? Someone make this happen.

The actor for Sanji looks like a grown man compared to the others. When the casting was released i had been saying that he doesn't look the part..and i got trolled for saying it.
Im most excited about Sanji. My man had been practicing martial arts for this role day in day out. AND HE LOOKS GREAT
My prediction: It's gonna be shit just like all other live action movies 🎉
My expectations are not high since it’s Netflix but I enjoyed the trailer. They’re going for a different vibe which is the right path to go when adapting something like OP to a Live Action. Also I love the cast. I know how hard they worked to get in their roles. Hoping for the best 🙏🏽
I'm was pleasantly surprised by this trailer, and the CGI is a lot better than I thought it was going to be. The Sea King looks really impressive, and I love the look they gave Buggy. I get the feeling Luffy won't be kicking Buggy in the balls in this adaption.
Don Krieg sounds really awesome to watch but I am even more excited to see how they make Arlong look and the rest of the fishmen.
It's gonna be suck and you know it.. Did we never learn..? After the Cowboy Bebop diaster ..geez..
Cowboy bebop wasnt nearly as bad as people make it seen
Orange town going to be insane with buggy, also cant wait to see arlong
i would have botched every take by saying "gomu gomu no"
gum gum is so extremely extra childish i can't take it seriously. gum has a different connotation in japanese.
Don't know 4kids luffy definitly pulled off GUM GUM... way better than Funi or this ever did. but Gomu Gomu no.... flows better.
ngl its bad idk why ppl hype this or even like it
this aged like milk 😂
I love it. The goofiness is on point. I'm gonna cry. They look so good. 😭
Flop FR I remember db evolution
LETSGOOO im hyped!!
I was smiling throughout the whole trailer
I feel like this is gonna feel more like a fun, for the fans, live action parody with a high budget
LMFAO STOOOOOOOOOOOOOP
That's the vibe I got as well haha
I want it to succeed. But I'm also very aware of how live action anime usually turns out. That being said, the CGI in this show looks on point! Zoro looks slick af! Buggy is 1 to 1! I'm kinda eh about Nami, Usopp, Sanji and Luffy, but they might surprise me. I just hope that with Nami, they don't just make her a brat. She's never portrayed like that and this trailer didn't do much for her character. She's greedy, selfish, and manipulative, sure, but she loves what she does.
In the first few episodes Nami was not that nice of a character. More or less hating on Luffy when she found out he was a pirate.
@@SimpleDre91 Not nice, agreed. But you rarely saw her outwardly angry or mopey. She preferred to force a smile to earn people's trust so she can rob them later. Manipulation.
@@Malhaloc rarely outwardly angry? Dude, I think she hit Luffy more then any villain
I thought they were going to make Sanji's eyebrows slightly curved. Wonder what Zoro's nickname for him? Hmm pervert or ladies man? 🤔
