Fun Fact; Zoro's actor, Mackenyu, is actually a trained swordsman. He's been trained in the way of the sword since childhood and does pretty much ALL of his own stunts.
I never thought I'd say this but Helmeppo is absolutely the highlight of this show for me. A lot of great actors in the series but he really nailed Helmeppo and imo even raised it above the level of the original.
He's SO smug and SO shitty, it's wonderous, beautiful, perfect.
They really elevated the character!
You know if someone is a great and effective actor when you want to punch him in the face and you are annoyed af about his character. Exactly what i felt to Helmeppo's character 🤣

He absolutely SLAYED his role. He's an absolute delight as Helmeppo, which is a sentence I NEVER thought I'd write. 😂
I like how they focus on Helmeppo when Morgan says that Zoro would make a hell of a Marine. You can tell that statement got under Helmeppo's skin a little. I love these subtle queues!
It's actually amazing how well made this live action is. Props to Oda and the crew behind making this happen.

@@thunderborn3231 I don't know. I would be worried about budget, but Gear 2nd isn't much different from a speedster like The Flash or Quicksilver. Making a body believably stretch in regular motion like non-gear 2nd Luffy seems a lot harder. And way above that would be Chopper, which would require a full CGI character like the Sonic movies.

@@thunderborn3231 I wouldn't worry much about that since we can't see water 7 saga until season 3 and until that, the cgi technology will only get better.
the Bink's Sake bgm in the flashback with Shanks is a really nice attention to detail because we first heard the song in Thriller Bark arc, way way way later. In that arc, Luffy said he knew the song because he often heard Shanks and his crew sang the song. It's really cool that OPLA put it in as bgm.
I dont know what Buggys actor was paid for this, but he deserves a raise. He absolutely NAILED Buggy the whole series. Also, not this episode specific, but I REALLY enjoy how they handled Garp and Koby. In the anime Garp didnt show up until late pre timeskip and Koby has had a habit of showing up a few minutes and leaving every few hundred episodes. I really like how they use Garp to crunch a lot of world building from the marines side into such a short span that comes as short clips in the anime. The meaning of justice to the marines, why hes not promoted, hinting at the existence of the nobles, ect. And I like how they expanded Koby and showed WHY Garp bothered training a nobody like him. I think there are things that could have done better, and its more cut down than the Amazon rainforest, but seriously, 8/10 would watch another season
Gol D. Roger's theme that plays in the begining is actually Luffy's theme reverse. just that detail shows the love and affection they put into this show

I really love the cast. Especially Nami and Sanji. They really put a lot of effort into casting the right people in my opinion. Furthermore in Germany the original voice actors are giving them their voices and that pushes the nostalgia to a limit!

@@Oddbarber Watched the anime in japanese. But not a live action version where japanese is not the original language. Our german dubs are fantastic and as i said very nostalgic. Most of the characters have the same voice since 20 years.
@@Oddbarber Yes, I watched the live action first time with the actors voices, but just started watching a 2nd time through with Japanese seiyuus because I need to hear how that feels too.
Mr 7 is mentioned in both the anime and manga in the same way. Zoro talks with Mr 1 and Ms Doublefinger and this interaction between Zoro and the former Mr 7 is mentioned, but not shown.
Personally, I really like that they are more true to the manga than the animation. And I like the changes that they make later on, even though they are not one-to-one with the original, but I think the essence and heart of the story are there.

Jacob Romero as Usopp did amazing I wish he got more of his performance shown in the trailers. This live action also got me to like Sanji way more somehow.

The worst part was removing Don kreigh fighting luffy,showing Grap serious when he's goofy, revealing Graps relationship with luffy,Sanji apologize to Zeff,Zoro defeating all those fishman and most importantly what was the Casting of Beckman he's known to pull more girls than shanks and he looks like that nah

Sixis Island is also where Ace and a friend of his where stranded on in a novel. It’s also where Ace accidentally obtained his powers when he shared the fruit with said friend.
I binged it all in one day, loved it to death. Might make my dad, whose never even seen One Piece, check it out. The cast is so charming and did an incredible job making this the best it could be!

I think what makes the liberties that they've taken with the individual story beats actually work is the fact that One Piece is all about the unique characters. So as long as the cast captures the core of each character and the interpersonal dynamics, even a totally original scenario can still feel like One Piece. It's the same reason that the G-8 arc is oved despite being filler.

Three moments made me gasp on the first ep...the Prologue ending with the title drop of OnePiece, Blood...and then Zoro literally creating Mr 3.5.

All thanks to remix by raven..getting on the journey of 480+ eps of reaction was a tough call, but your reactions are great, plus that editing makes it faster to consume.
The German dub is amazing. They got the same voices as in the German anime. The voice actors for Luffy, Nami, etc. have been doing this for 21 years. They were also super excited about the live-action version and were looking for all the old cast members (for example, the original voice of Alvida). It's a bit unusual to see this in English when you're used to hearing the German or Japanese voices. I would give it a 8/10.

Funny enough, you mention someone whose never seen one peice....that would be me. Never seen it except for a few UA-cam clips here and there. But I instantly fell in love with this live action show and feels like it was done perfectly
I enjoyed the first episode! The interactions with the bounty posters is outstanding! Very fun, and I easily would've hit the "play next" button even if I wasn't planning to binge it all in one day (I ended up doing it twice 😂) Glad you liked it!

To your point during the intro: I honestly think that a successful live action adaptation of One Piece could not only do good things for the One Piece anime/manga, but also for anime as a whole. While the medium has certainly become more mainstream in recent years, it's still the case that a lot of people just don't really respect animation as art and entertainment the same way that they do for live action by default. Hopefully this series starts a trend of *actually good* adaptations and we see a growing appreciation for the source material as well ^.^ A rising tide raises all ships!

High budget is understatement. It is roughly about $18 million per episode. Imagine how big the total budget be to adapt an anime with more than a thousand episodes. 😅
I'm not even a One Piece fan but only seen episodes from Water 7: Ussop leaving the crew and fighting Luffy, Robin's backstory, Merry rescued and her funeral, and Ussop apologizing. This series is amazing and giving me hope on Avatar live action series on Netflix

okay in a light novel about Ace is Sixis Island where Ace gets the devil Fruit. Also this is the area we get told in the anime and manga in the Whiskey Peak. 77 branch is easter egg Jack it the branch that gets sunk by Arlong pirates that shoot the canon that Arlong crushes with his mouth.

since i love reactions i do react to people watching OPLA without ever seeing the anime before and they all love it and they want to actually dive into the anime too now. so i think this show was a huge success just for that
