It doesn't surprise me that Buggy (Jeff) got a standing ovation for his performance. His character was the one I thought would be the most difficult to pull off and would come across as dumb, but he absolutely killed it and was the strongest performance by far! He deserves all the awards!
Same😩. I love how they had the balls to put their own spins on each character. Definitely paid off in my opinion, especially with Buggy, Kuro and Nami. Not comparing it to the anime, but the show wouldn’t have been as good if they made carbon copies of the original like many fans seem to have wanted
Suddenly Buggy is everyone fav in this season. Is this Jeff effect? Is this Buggy effect?? I mean he did gain a lot of supporter during impel down & marineford without actually doing anything. Buggy, the luckiest man alive 👏👏👏
Both, it seems he was a well beloved character in the anime (didn't watch it), and I loved his character and actor performance in the live action, so I guess he, once again, was the luckiest of characters getting the perfect actor to play him XD
One Piece live action is so perfectly cast, faithful to the manga as humanly possible for any live action adaptation series, huge passion and respect for the fans, to the point that critics got confused and say that it's too faithful to the source material - very weird. But it is very evident, that they are really having fun and love making this show. It's not flawless as no show ever is, but it certainly has raised the standard of other adaptations of other mangas to aspire to, Big Time! This show just really makes me very happy!
The special effects team deserve all the praise in the world! It's all done very well, but not overdone if that makes sense, the CGI they use is only what's necessary and I respect them for that. It's a huge production but it's still a passion project for all involved, I'm glad they went all out!
I love that South African people got to shine in this show, both in front and behind the camera. We're often very underestimated, and I also think that's part of why the quality was so good, cause we always feel like we have a lot to prove.
Mackenyu totally killed it! I gotta say that in some scenes it seemed like he had to slow down a little. Just felt like he could do so much more and much more difficult stunts. Can't wait for him to use all of his abilities in the later seasons, as well as perfectly made choreography for his 3-sword-style
All of them being so dedicated is just so fucking awesome. I had zero hopes for the live action and it straight up is the best adaptation I have seen for anime. Massive props to the design crew though for the characters because the biggest thing was how do we keep the weirdness of OP while making it believable here and they DID IT.
The amount of love and dedication put into this adaption not only by the actors (omg intense, amazing work all of you!) but from the whole team really shines through in the final product. Costumes, lighting, set pieces, line writing, storyboarding, choreography, camera direction, special effects, composition and framing (just to name a few). Overall the audience; both old and new fans; recognizes and respects the monumental effort put into this project. Audiences aren't dumb, they can tell when something is half-assed or when corners are being cut, and while budgets and time constraints will always plague the entertainment industry, it is obvious that every detail of this project has purpose and heart.
I dont think Chopper will be in the second season? if the romance Dawn arc was a season long then so will the Baroque Works arc. Chopper was introduced in Skypia arc
@@jamesoakley4570 what are you smokin' right now? Chopper was introduce during Drum kingdom arc, that's after little garden arc, which it happened after Nami got sick. . They literally have chopper during the Alabasta Arc!
Same! It’ll be difficult- whether they go with a child actor (and have to deal with those rules/laws concerning work hours) or a young looking teenager, whether they go practical (like the Grinch) vs CGI (like Pogo in Umbrella Academy) vs a mix, even just how they adapt him since his design changes over the course of the manga to look very small and mascot like (which would be difficult to achieve without full CGI). All of these considerations have their own issues both from a budget, work hour (if using a kid), and aesthetic perspective. Either way they end up going will be great though based on how they’ve done so far!
The make up artist had the AUDACITY of saying Buggy has a "massive big nose" You must have no sense of self preservation to anger that man like that =O
I'm sooo glad they made Nami capable and being able to hold her own in a fight. I'm always SO annoyed whenever she has to be rescued and is forced to play damsel in distress. Nami is smart enough to know better that combat abilities are of vital importance in that kind of work!!
have we seen the same manga? her fighting abilities are actually great. Even her power over weather keeps improving as the story goes. The only reason she looks weak is because she's compared to all the powerhouse in the crew but she's not that weak when you compare her to the common fighter in One Piece.
I think, like other mentioned in the comments, that she can handle herself in the anime, but what I truly loved about her in the live action is that she is not being hypersexualised. It's one thing I absolutely hate in the anime, how all women are hyper sexualised, with camera shots up their panties, huge boobs, etc. It makes me sick, especially since the targeted audience is young boys. Anyway, I love live action Nami :)
This is what happens when people actually stay true to the source material. Oda told inaki he made the perfect luffy and I agree. I think everyone did a great job from Buggy to Garp. I cant wait to see what they do when luffy goes into gears 2 through 5. I know some of that stuff is a long time coming. I also think chopper is going to be done correctly. I never watched the anime due to the length and not starting on it. Now im on the 5th season I cant stop such a great manga/anime and a perfect live action show. I cant wait for more.
is not just the casting, they did a fucking AWESOME JOB with the casting but the PASSION, the effort, the dedication that every actor put on their job is what make this serie freaking amazing.
From now on I hope that Netflix will make it a mandatory rule that all studios who does remakes visit this incredible crew. Because this is how a remake should be done.
I really thought Buggy was gonna not work, but somehow he ended up being the highlight of the season. Well, a highlight. There are many highlights, but Jeff Ward's portrayal absolutely stood out and the writing was great. Preferred it over the anime Buggy.
9:02 him talking about variety being one thing cool about ONE PIECE because there's a lot of different things all in ONE PIECE had me laughing so hard I don't think he did that on purpose but 😂😂😂
Watching OPLA, I was astonished by the different approaches LA took and how effective they were. Anime, manga and LA film is totally different medium and each have different strength and flaw, and LA team really took the best out of the story and effect through this show
After I finished the live action it almost felt like I just devoured a full 8-course meal just because the cast and every thing were just so amazing and fascinating. I can't wait till the next season comes out
The insane amount of work everyone puts in to these characters shows off! I already could not imagine anyone else as the crew members. Or any other cast. Really looking forward to Season 2! One Piece fans live in fantastic times! ✨
Jeff was like lightning in a bottle for them. He understood the character so well, particularly the nuance of him rather than just saying "He's like joker, just a mad clown" which he really isn't. Absolutely killed the performance and stole the show.
I would like to thank everyone whos working behind the scenes all the production designer team and the producer, oda sensei is great but this team of work did it so well and all the attention to details and wow those hard working actors doing their own stunts those look so great. And Buggy /Jeff got a standing ovation after finishing a scene, well deserved, the hysterical laugh and the crazy eye all was so on point. Was mainly busy focusing on the main crew while i was watching the whole series but after seeing this behind the scene clips my appreciation for this series grows even more ❤ i think Arlong and the crew, and Buggy even Mihawk nailed the look.
Everything about the show is great, I've loved it. Even made me give the anime another shot. Buggy is still such a great character I absolutely loved him in this. The CGI effects of all the wanted posters were a visual treat especially Mihawk.
This is amazing ! Now let’s see the behind the scenes of a disaster like Ashoka . I bet the actors had zero passion for that show . This is why one piece worked so well .so much darn love ❤️

I would like to commend the prosthetics team on the development and final result of Buggy's nose. Never watched or read One Piece before this but knew of its popularity. When I registered his nose, I was in awe. Props to that team and to everyone else involved in the development of the character in this live action make.

100% Agree. Jeff Ward killed it, maybe 10x better than I expected. He deserves more than a standing ovation, an Oscar perhaps.
Buggy was my fave character in the Manga, but Jeff made the live action buggy 10x better. it's insane how well every actor fits their roles perfectly.
