  • I've covered the cars and pick-ups of the Fallout series, but left out everything else from motorcycles to semi trucks. Part 2 goes over all the other kinds of ground vehicles that can be found in the Fallout series.

Transport trucks use a lot of fuel and probably were only used by the government or high profile companies by the time of the great war due to resource scarcity. This explains why there's so few in game.

Giant hermit crabs in the Far Harbor DLC in Fallout 4. Climb into the back ends of half of destroyed vans and use them as shells. They use other junk to camouflage themselves in the front. So much so I fire my gun into each van I see on the island.

In the concept art, The lone wanderer motorcycle's "exhaust protrusion" is a functional jet engine with a blue flame
Also, going back to the first car video, the corvega sedan from fallout 4 looks a lot like the 1953 buick XP-300 concept- especially from the back. For some reason ive never seen the XP-300 brought up when discussing the corvega.

In the Fallout Timeline, the Sino-Soviet split escalated to a full scale war in the 1980s, which lead to the US government backing the USSR and ended with the Soviets annexing Mongolia and Manchuria. It's implied that the Post-Stalin Premiers were much less hostile to the western countries than OTL, and were able to have at least neutral relations leading up to the great war. At least, as much as they could given the extreme anti-communist stance that was common.

The armored schoolbus reminds me of the ones they use in Dawn of the Dead to leave the mall and drive to the pier, that one also has a cowcatcher to plow through hordes of zombies. I'd say that's a fitting inspiration, since the ghouls of the Fallout world are basically irradiated zombies.

The street cleaner strongly resembles 'walk behind' vacuum cleaners that are used in gardening/landscaping work. They are motorized, but as the name suggests, the vacuum will move forward, while you walk behind it and 'steer' it similarly to a shopping cart. It isn't a stretch to my mind that such a thing could easily exist that you ride on; the one I used when I worked as a school gardener definitely was strong enough to pull you along even though it didn't have a seat; it had to so it could be maneuvered over grass, uneven terrain, and even up steep paths. I really wouldn't be surprised if ride on versions existed for very large applications like cleaning stadiums or sport arenas.

The rear portion of busses missing actually makes a LOT of sense. Think about it, those are HUGE power plants, AND rear engine/rear wheel drive. Which means you can just butcher it in half however messy as you want, and use it as a power plant somewhere else with ease. They would be the easiest to adapt drivetrain for heavy duty use. In real life this is pretty true as well, since most busses are still diesel cycle engines running on diesel or in a lot of cases, propane. Diesel engines post apocalypse would be extremely desireable due to their ability to basically run on anything, and require zero electricity to run in cases of mechanical injected engines. A bus would be the best thing to convert into a mobile home or adapt the power plant for something else. i'm really high so this is really rambley

I'm late as all getout here but the "Tank Truck" looks an awful lot like my grandpa's old Flusher Truck. Some in my family say it was a custom job, some say it was outfitted as is from the factory for Oregon forestry work, but regardless what it was was a 50's firetruck chassis with a 5000 gallon tank on the back that had an oval cross-section with flat ends. Paint the one's in the game solid white and you're about there.

4:14 How could a wagon ever not be classified as a vehicle? You made such a big disclaimer about it i was thinking it was going to be something odd like a pogostick or packbrahmin. Why would anyone not see it as a vehicle? Because it isn't self propelled? So we never invented a land vehicle until the advent of the bicycle?

The motorcycle depicted in Fallout three has a twin cylinder boxer engine, typical of an R series BMW, what would be the valve covers on the engine do resemble those on the BMWs of the 1950 & 60s, it is possible it is inspired by a Harley XA which was a WW2 military prototype that used a 750cc boxer engine, but that was a flathead engine so would not have had valve covers, The fishtail exhausts are very 1940s Harley.
