For the animal rights people out there... There are some other videos that go into more detail about the raising strategies. Mr. Whiting is honestly the most caring person when it comes to animal welfare. As he says in other videos, feathers are at the bottom of the list of needs, so if the animal isn't cared for perfectly, the feathers will be terrible. The fact that his birds look perfect means they are given the best possible care. They have wire because it allows moisture and waste to fall away, which prevents foot problems (research bumble-foot). It also allows the eggs to slowly roll down to be collected, rather than being broken. I will totally admit that commercial birds are often treated really bad, but these birds are rockstars to people in the Industry, and are treated as such before they meet their end.
those people are clueless. They don't care about the facts either. I saw one guy complaining that Dr. Whitings birds were "in an environment that's too loud and the chickens are not allowed privacy and personal autonomy." I mean WTF, people are so ignorant
I have a Barred Rock rooster I raised from TSC chicks that has very long hackles and saddles, but not as long as those in the video, but his are long enough they're pretty impressive. He's still young too, only about 7 months old.
What a great video. Never would have expected that I'd ever give a shit about roosters, but this guy does such a good job at showing how interesting they are!
Do they get out of those little cages? We have rescue roosters and they take a bit of work to care for. We have to rotate them around so the hens aren't overwhelmed, but the bachelor pad is pretty big. I can't imagine sticking one of my guys in such little cages. If there aren't any hens you really shouldn't have too much fighting, don't understand why they are so confined.
Thank you for a fantastic product, What are the color called, where there is Black and White grizzly and Whisky color? I would love too have that one, and I never seeing it in Denmark
The birds are beautiful, and they should live somewhere beautiful too. They should not be locked in cages living the lives of empty shells, (pun intended).
Limey Figdet these birds have far better lives than the majority of the chickens and roosters throughout the world just because they look more beautiful shouldn’t give you more of a reason to get angry about their living conditions. Keep in mind they don’t have to worry about predators
It would be nice if the chickens where out and about doing their thing.i find it cruel for them to be raised this way.gamefowl are raised better than this.
It's about the feathers. You cant put a bunch of roosters out togethers and not have them destroy the feathers you are raising them for if they spend half there time fighting.
Do you know what the feathers would look like if they pasture raised them? I can tell you. I run a poultry farm where we pasture raise. I seldom see a roo or a hen with all of their feathers. The roos feathers area always beaten up long before they loose them. Not becauyse they fight with each other, but because that is what happens from being out in the 'wild' so to speak. They are nto raising them for meat or egg production. Its for feathers. Try thinking before you post.
@@amymanoharan284 that's true, but its still no way for one of god's creations to live. Its just morally wrong. Its like breeding the strongest human in a cage. It would be in great physical form, but its mental would be depressed. Every animal including humans is either happy or sad with their living conditions
That's a terrible way to breed chickens. Chickens naturally from birth love nothing more than scratching around in the dirt eating grass and bugs. That is such a cruel and un-natural way to keep birds. And for fishing lures?
No doubt, but I know from personal experience this isn't good for chickens. I got my chicks as day old, I had to keep them inside under a heat lamp to keep them alive. They had never seen outside or grass, When they were strong enough I took them outside just to see what happened. Immediately they behaved like normal chicks, despite never seeing grass and no older chickens to show them what to do they started scratching around looking for things to eat. It's inbuilt from birth with these animals they have a natural compulsion to do these things. When it got late I put the chickens back inside. This cycle lasted a week, until when I tried to put the chickens back inside they went berserk, you would think I was killing them how much they resisted. They would prefer the cool, wet, muddy outside to being safe and cosy inside any day. No doubt in my mind, this is not a good way to treat birds.
Sorry that argument is invalid, humans built their own shelters, we choose to live inside, when chickens build their own cages and choose to live in them, then you will have a point. Until then you're just being a moron. Do you know anything about chickens? Have you breed or kept chickens before? Do you know the natural behaviours that they like to display? Speaking from a stance of ignorance is rarely a good strategy.
Manu B What if they're caged for security? What if they are caged only at night? We don't know...unless you know something that everyone else doesn't. In that case, I'd love to know more.
Okay, I haven't thought about the possible fights between roosters.... but, these cages seems to be really small and they look like all the bad intensive poultry farm with no place for the animals in a complete artificial place (no ground, only metal).... so, yes, I didn't found those conditions "beautifull" to watch (even know that there are worse poultry farm than this one...).
2:35 is it just me or is that a real shitty way to put that rooster back, i hate things like this, just imagine those rooters clarws from walking on the wires all there life.
Just for clarification, hold them upside down and they lay still so you can put them down without hurting them. If you just try to get them to walk off your hand they will try to bail out at the door and hurt themselves. Set them down upside down gently and they’ll just roll over.

Thank you Mr. Tom Whiting for offering the best fly tying feathers available on this planet.
Who would dislike this video? Great job man. I grew up raising roosters. But more for sports lol
Great Video! Thanks for what you do Mr. Whiting.
Scandinavia really likes chicken feathers
I just love your story on the roosters
1:49 I assume there isn't a big fly fishing scene in Kenya🤔 Surely those are going to some kind of commercial tying factory?
My mother and brothers including you can be best friends. They love raising chickens and caring for them as much as you. Haha.
Hey! I live in delta I know this guy
Great looking birds.
I've spent a ridiculous amount on rooster feathers over the years😂
It has to be damn Loud in there
that's what I like about chickens there patterns

U r a gr8 person 💝💙
I like chicken with less meat. They taste the best tbh
i have a pretty cool video with chickens from my aunts ranch
how to takecare of their feathers?
interesant video . mi-as dori sa pot avea si eu niste pene si alte materiale pentru confectionarea mustelor pentru pescuit
interesting video. I wish I could have myself some feathers and other materials for making flies for fishing
I was drooling when he went through their inventory.
Thank you for a fantastic product, What are the color called, where there is Black and White grizzly and Whisky color? I would love too have that one, and I never seeing it in Denmark
Line Jensen Cree hackle
They’re only $300 for a cape
interessante video. Vorrei poter avere io stesso alcune piume e altri materiali per fare le mosche per la pesca
Shame the birds are in cages like that.
The feathers would be so much more brilliant with/in sunlight and some good grass and insects, etc.
Try to find enough land to raise thousands of birds is impossible
Ooops. Thumbsnail kinda looks like Jayden smiths hair.
do they kill the chickens to pluck them
Marcos Castillo they harvest the chicken sell the feathers and meat

I can respect it. I'm really loving how informative these slice of life memoirs are and what this channel is known for.
I love roosters can I get one for free
Amazing feather development! Thanks Mr Whiting!
What music is this? The story wasn't that interesting
loud noises!!!!!
Go check out my video where tons of wild snowbirds were flying up to me and eating bread right out of my hand!
I would appreciate the effort and all, but the methods for that are just horrible
cool chicken💖💖❤❤😍
Ikr

i cant believe you would show a video of a guy battery farming chickens

Mass farming should NOT be a part of out Great Big Story.
mass farming? so you think starvation a better alternative?
Do you buy any meat? if you do it's a 99.9% chance it is mass farmed.
If you know nothing about a subject... you really should refrain from commenting. They are not "Mass farming" for meat or eggs.
Jim Clark no we check the labels

I don't disagree but at least they look healthy.
bitch you probably eat chicken nuggets everyday stfu
and naturally humans aint suppose to be living in a house so sleep outside next to a fire

Is that supposed to be a nice video? Those animals shoulden't be caged like this, that's terrible....

Agape_0716 That obviously wasn't at night
Thanks guys but I wanted to hear it from him. I just hate it when people jump to conclusions without understanding the context.

I COMPLETLY agree

You've also been raising roosters since you were 10 I'm guessing?
You don't have to do something terrible to know that it's wrong.
Just for clarification, hold them upside down and they lay still so you can put them down without hurting them. If you just try to get them to walk off your hand they will try to bail out at the door and hurt themselves. Set them down upside down gently and they’ll just roll over.
Sad they have to kill and skin them to get the good feathers. Too bad they can use molted ones.
J V you obviously know nothing about tying flies.
To ascribe God's handiwork to the lie of evolution is an insult to God.
Hard pill to swallow but hes not real
