      Aeroponics (and in the same vein hydroponics) is actually way more eco friendly with no need for pesticides because everything is grown in a large green house with substrate that doesn't have bugs/pests. Aeroponics can fit WAY more crop output than this kind of farming as well. Only takes some smart irrigation and pest free nutrient supplements for the crops, and a small enclosed greenhouse. And no need to farm ducks for consumption either (That is what I am assuming this person is also farming for besides pest eaters? If not big pardon!) You could have your pet/show/rentable pest control ducks and feed them too with aeroponic crops. :)

    • @zabortnick
      @zabortnick 4 роки тому +24

      @@floraazul7622 aero and hydroponics are very efficient but there is huge starting costs and requires much more technical care where as with old school just requires u plow a field sow some seed and let it go, cheap easy but not as efficient.

They know you aren't a dog, but the canine dominance theory has long been disproven; wolves live in small family groups of parents and their adult offspring. With cats we're unsure, but they treat us like smaller cats treat bigger cats (and parents) when in family groups. So they at least think of us like big, naked cats.
      With ducks and chickens, its very different from mammals as birds imprint on the first living creature they see when they hatch, which is important for their survival so they follow around an adult that wants to protect them. So they literally think you're their mom.

A grown dog may not buldge for its own mother but it would move out of the way for you. A dog recognizes its family as being equal to him, you are not equal you are above him which is why he is ok with you doing almost anything to him most of the time they wouldnt even fight back if you were to kick them, in contrast if it were any other dog even their own mothers they would fight back. Of course some are more aggressive than others but eventually if you train them they will literally never hurt you and follow your every word.

    I realize that methods such as this were probably used in the past and were abandoned for the use of non-natural products, especially as the family farm gave way to mega-farms.

      @Ruh Dik LMAO! Yeah, you don't have to chop the entire wing off to make a duck not fly, mainly the tips. Some of them however ARE butchered way beyond the tip. Yeah, nice a scene with more than likely a different pond of ducks flying away. The one where you watch them ALLL waddle in, none of them are flying. Maybe you didn't pay close enough attention to detail. What do you work for great big storys? They will make content you will click on, and i support almost all of their content, except for animal cruelty.
      Ever hear of a little thing called migration? You're saying that these birds don't migrate because they love being locked in a garage all winter? They don't follow their instincts because this guy loves them that much? Probably not.

    • @omiali1282

      Dolph C. Volker they are excellent tick eaters but the true tick control is via guinea hens.

    • @CheetahWhisperer
      @CheetahWhisperer 8 років тому +53

      That is VERY interesting news. I will keep this as a favorite. In cheetah breeding, it also breeds ticks and the only way to control them is with poisons ingested by the cheetahs. Some use frontline... not good. One burns the grasses in winter to kill the eggs but that safe either.
      I want to start a small breeding project one day and collecting all the lessons learned and then some to make it successful. I've seen cheetahs thick full of ticks and they give them veterinary style dog pills to kill them but it does nothing for the eggs. This could be a solution. Move cheetahs around and bring in a bunch of ducks for a few days or weeks. Block the fencing with tarps so the cheetahs don't go crazy or the birds.

    • @CheetahWhisperer
      @CheetahWhisperer 7 років тому +8

      Has to be non-toxic to cheetahs and if inhaling it is a worry, won't be used. Ducks seem good except for their potential excrement and bird flu. There seems to be no good solution to large and open, free-ranging captive animal enclosures and ticks.

    • @umiluv
      @umiluv 7 років тому +12

      Dolph C. Volker - diatomaceous earth is more used in the environment. It's a drying agent that has micro jagged edges so it cuts fleas and ticks and dries them out.
      I never used it on my cats (I didn't want them licking it) but instead of using flea bomber on the apartment, dusted it in all our carpets and cloth furniture to kill all the fleas and flea eggs. Then you vacuum everything up. Worked like a charm.

    • @seigeengine
      @seigeengine 7 років тому +19

      Diatomaceous earth isn't toxic. It consists of the shells of ancient sea creatures. It works by getting into the joints of bugs and cutting them up, causing them to dehydrate and die. You can eat diatomaceous earth. The reason you don't want to inhale it isn't because it's toxic, but because tiny bits of rock in your lungs is bad for you, because obviously.

      Jusvin Tan the financial costs of the ducks' upkeep would probably be significantly lower than the costs of commercial fertilisers and pesticides, and the vintner would sell the organic wine at a premium. And then the tourist income from visitors arriving for the duck procession; cellar door sales and lunch at vineyard restaurant.... and the ducks and their "mommy" are so darned cute!!

      No, the ducks probably cost more than fertilizer and pesticides would.
      The advantage is from the mating of the vinyard with the ducks. By combining them, the ducks at least help reduce fertilizer needs (don't know the details of that vinyard), and reduce pesticide needs, and the pests going after the grapevines help feed the ducks. By mating the two processes, each becomes more efficient.

    Me: Hello?
    Duck: Hi! Got a pest problem?
    Me: yes. My house is infected with snails!
    Duck: were on our way.

      Except the Duck would just say quack. But the other person understands it anyways.

    YES!
    Giant snails of Africa destroy everything - the same thing happens in South Africa, where the harmless zebra snail (cochlitoma zebra) is slowly killed off by the invasive Ghanan, Tanzanian, and Kenyan snails then they (Ghanan, Tanzanian, and Kenyan snails) take over crops and destroy them in a matter of a few days.
    The ducks EAT giant snails and snail eggs.
    I like that!
