This is 1000x at least more insightful and interesting than the Letterman interview from a few days prior. The Lady conducting this interview is very good. And she's an American trying to deal with two very introspecive Brits and Phil Collins. That is not easy, but she still gets Tony and Mike involved.
@@sratus Your Heroes! They are your heroes. They remain in your ❤ heart as young as you want them. Your parents never see you grow old and decrepit but still see the same little boy and girl. It's to do with the affection and esteem you hold them. I grew up with them and other memorable bands since the 1960's. I remember those days very well. You definitely had this feeling that Phil's days were numbered with genesis. He was at his peak with all of his personal projects and there was less and less room for genesis. I saw 2 shows of that tour knowing that it was probably going to be the last of genesis as we knew it
@Nelson Robert Willis Not that I know of... I know they obviously did the We Can't Dance tour but I believe they mostly focused on solo careers once again and then Phil kinda just left in the mid 90s leaving Tony and Mike to do Calling All Stations with Ray Wilson
Phil has said that it was to a great degree geography that caused him to leave. He got married again, and moved to another country (Switzerland, where the wife was from). He became more of a family man during the 90s, than he had been previously.
I like that Phil mentioned the movie he was going to be filming in Australia in Jan 1992. I was in Sydney at that time and remember hearing about it on the news there. It was a movie called Frauds. Very odd movie but interesting to watch if you are a fan of Phil's.
By this point you could tell Phil was wanting out of the band, and wanting to do his solo stuff on a permanent basis. Its amazing they even got back together in the early 90's to do this album and tour, but it did happen.
the moment when the interviewer says all of them are quite successful in their own solo projects Tony feels a little bit unconfortable there, not to say smashed by Phil and Mike...
All daytime talk show/ morning news sets looked like that in that era. This was an intentional move by the designers with the viewing audiences in mind. It put the viewers' minds at ease.
Se les percibe un poco incomodos a Phil, Tony y Mike y parece ser porque justo un dia antes falleció Freddie Mercury. Genesis y Queen se conocen desde inicios de los 70s incluso coincidieron en Trident Studios en algunas ocasiones.
Phil was always bullshiting about not wanting to be on the road to long. That was only with Genesis. When it came to his solo career he had no problem with it. The Serious tour in 1990 was Feb-Oct. And both sides was 13 months April 94- May 95. I really wish Phil had stayed for one more tour. The Hits album should have been released in late 96 and they could have toured stadiums from April- October of 97. It would have been huge and they would have made so much money. Nobody really cared about Phil's solo stuff after Both Sides.
@@ziggypop79 The average Genesis fan did yes. However corporate America loved him. He made a few Disney hits, that most Genesis fans couldn't care less about. It's sad Phil went the way he did.... truly crazy that this interview was 30 years ago and that was their last album. Sad....

Joan Lunden, she was one of my favorites.
Joan Lunden is surprisingly knowledgeable about Genesis, very impressive.
I thought the same. I was impressed that she was pretty spot on with most of her information.
It's so great to see their handsome, youthful faces. Bravo!
Not exactly in the first flush of youth, it's a group of middle aged blokes.

Oh wow 91. Very nice looking guys💋🙋♀️🤗🤗👏👏 love M.Rutherford.❤
same.. banks is also very nice looking.
One day after the death of Freddie Mercury. Genesis is my favourite band, but also I love Queen
me too.
Probably why they seemed on edge here. Trauma
that kinda explains why Phil seems so upset.
Back then Tony says that they should have a new album out in 3-4 years. Sadly, Phil left the band shortly after. Imagine if he stayed in the band
FHDTV and they did. Calling All Stations.
@@BodaciousWench but 6 years later... imagine they release an album this year... 22 years later, omg.

Its amazing that they thought 120,000 people was a lot, this was nothing compared to the 500,000 at Rome in 2007.
Wow really ? 💜🙋♀️
Yes - nothing! I saw them a year ago in Long Island,NY and it was spectacular!!!
Their care factor for this interview is written all over their faces.

probably the best band in the world, ever.
1991.
The last year Phil had long hair.
Que lindos
Get em out by Friday was social comment. Also dancing with the moonlit knight.
didnt know they released 17 albums wow
I think We Can't Dance was their 14th album. They also counted the three live albums release up to that point.
Phil seems pissed
That's EXACTLY what I thought!
He seems bored
Pissed as in angry or pissed as in drunk?
@@nectarinedreams7208 angry...
but that's Phil... sadly.
It's probably about 8am. Lack of sleep.
I wish I was at Brandeis university back then but I was a bit young.
3:48, wow. I knew he was going to say Boston. .. I just guessed that it
They’re wearing the same clothes as they did on the MTV Rockline broadcast from Madrid. Must have been the same day.
I noticed that. They look tired. They probably had just flown in.
It’s sad that it was their only last studio album
boa noite à todos esses é show prá toda vida

The set looks like a doctor's office with Genesis as the patients....lol.

She was talking about six and a half minutes was long for a radio single. The standard was usually 3:45 but many hits were longer than that.
Bohemian Rhapsody, for example.
Wish I could go back to 1991 🤔

I agree, the worst thing he did was leave Genesis, it brought him the most credibility. People really got tired of his solo shtick.
