A lot of the music from Japan from the mid to late 90s was inspired by new jack swing, a very short lived bit of funk/jazz/rnb that peaked in popularity around 1990. Streets of Rage was very much inspired by New Jack
The themes in this game were something else! It's physically impossible not to bob your head to Green Garden PS. That cheeky hint about the "bonus stage" had me rolling
The music of megaman 8 takes me back to just sitting in my older brothers room and watching him play- back in the days all we had to worry about was HW.
This soundtrack has a very special place in my heart. It was mid December 1999, my Dad had a surprise birthday party with all his closest friends. I obviously was with all of them, but was still a bit too young to enjoy the party with all of them (I would have had a blast at that party at my age today), even though my Dad was the focus that entire night, he noticed that I felt out of place and decided to leave his party for a while so I would also have a special time that night. I wanted to finally try the Dreamcast after i've seen so much on it on the internet but unfortunately, the console was always rented and unavailable. Instead, I chose to rent a Nintendo 64 and decided to have Bomberman 64 with the console. I spent the night playing the game and making lyrics to all these amazing tracks. I will always remember that night like it was yesterday. My Dad showed me selfless love and care and i'll never forget how important it is to do this to your loved ones. Also, one last thing, he ended up going back to the video store with me after the owner called us to tell us that a Dreamcast was back in store. He's the freaking best, I'm teary eyed just writing these lines.
That was beautiful, thank you for sharing. This is exactly why highlighting this kind of thing is so important. I'm glad you had such positive experiences with your father. I'm going to try to take a lesson from him and endeavor to be more like he was in your story.
@@SoundFontGuy My pleasure!! It’s all about making others feel good. If you respect yourself at the same time too, you gain so much in life as well. I grew up in the 90s. My favorite game series all originate from the late 80s. Ocarina of Time and Majora’s Mask, as well as Metal Gear Solid, Castlevania SotN are favorites up to this very day. And yet, no other game soundtrack moves me harder and to such an era full of wonderment and nostalgia as Bomberman 64. Even when I really never followed through with the Bomberman series afterwards this Ost is deeply ingrained in my heart.
game never gets enough love and is arguably the best bomberman ever was. even the sequel couldn't live up to it, as good as that was. music that stands on its own aside from the game.

I love this soundtrack! It still sounds so great today. A couple years ago I finally got 120 gold cards. Snowboard Kids is another really cozy soundtrack that I love - Dizzy Land is probably my favorite from the game.
The sample at 1:51 has been used in Ken Ishii's "Sleeping Madness" album(I don't remember which song exactly), which was released in 1999. I think it's at the start of one of the songs. Also, I like this soundtrack, but anything by Jun Chikuma is a gift from the heavens. She even has her own soundcloud.

When i got an N64 for Christmas my father had instructed my grandmother to buy a pack that didn't come with a game but instead a gold controller. So instead of getting me a game himself to give me he took me out on Christmas day to buy one. Of course any place that was open didn't have a copy of Mario 64 and I was left with the choice of Bomberman 64 or Mario Kart 64. I couldn't chose and he got both because i really wanted a platformer but also Mario something Mario. I'm so glad he did. It became one of my favorites even if I wasn't very good at it. The music was hypnotic. One of the best soundtracks on the system.
It's unlike the music in any other Bomberman game. Most Bomberman music is good, but BM64 just has its own special uniqueness to it that sets it apart.
Nice to see one of my top 2 n64 soundtracks get some attention (other top spot goes to ogre battle 64). This game had such a cool vibe, loved the emphasis on bass lines in the music, and the feeling of secrets around every corner in the gameplay.
I recently posted some Bomberman 64 music on my TT channel. Definitely some great music in this title! Absolutely some of my favorites from the console.
So glad i got to experience this as a kid.. was one of my favorite titles and i still listen to the soundtrack from time to time for nostalgic purposes. We had it good back then!
Thanks for highlighting the delight and proficiency in this game’s music. I played through this game in high school, a ton, and got to know its tracks very well. I too enjoy them all, but not many other tunes out there put me in a calm, chill, everything-is-going-to-be-ok mood as effectively as Blue Resort. There are times where I could listen to that track on a loop for over an hour and not get sick of it. This game is such a treat to play through, and its score contributes a lot to that.
Bomberman 64 was one of the first video games I ever saw, and was also one of the first I ever got a chance to play. I've been meaning to actually play through it for ages now. I think I'll take this video as a sign that the time has come! Excited to give Boom! Guy 64 a try, too. I love a lot of GBA games' OSTs and the sounds used within. Kirby and the Amazing Mirror, Mario and Luigi Superstar Saga, and Mario Tennis Power Tour are some of my top choices. I also can't get enough of The Thousand Year Door's original soundtrack- those synths are to die for.
Man, this sent a wave of nostalgia through me, and my only experience with this game was renting it from Blockbuster back in the day. I can't believe how many memories I still had of it locked behind that music barrier.
Uh, a lot of videogame soundtracks bring back warm memories, Bomberman 64 among them. But Bomberman Hero is the one that sits stronger in my mind. No other game before that had sounds quite like it, and it tickled me to find that the creator uploaded them to SoundCloud. There's also Donkey Kong Country 1 and 2. Stickerbrush and Aquatic Ambiance in particular. All of the sonic games. I love video game music. It's wonderful. I halfway want to pick up one of your sound fonts and try making something again.
Do it! They're free! I know that Bomberman Hero is the big favorite among most, and I promise I will be getting to that one as soon as I can. Bomberman 64 is my personal favorite of this franchise on this platform, but Bomberman Hero is a really excellent game as well with an equally good soundtrack. I'll get more into this in the eventual video, but one of the huge standouts of Bomberman Hero is the sheer quality of the samples. You could almost mistake the music for being CD audio.

Man, so much nostalgia! Blue resort literally sums up 90s pop and house music. Thank you for covering this game. This was my favorite game to pop in just because of the sick music.
I love the BM64 soundfont, the bass has such command of the sonic space, it's incredibly satisfying how it plays so well with the main melodies, especially in the opening level song. I have more nostalgia for The Second Attack! because of Pommy and the elemental bombs, but this OST stands out more in my mind. Thanks for the video!
Thank you for making this. While don't like Bomberman 64 as much as many others, the music is great. I didn't grow up with either but my favorite soundtracks from the series are probably from Super Bomberman 2 and from Bomberman 2 on DS. 2 DS sounded really generic to me at first but somehow really grew on me, those rival virus themes and the 100% credits music get me teary-eyed sometimes. Oh and to answer your question, my most nostalgic soundtrack is probably Diddy Kong Racing. On a sidenote, RIP Bomberman 3DS.
Super great video! This game has one of my favorite soundtracks ever made. I appreciate the nod to the multiplayer mode too! It was far and away one of the best games to get together and play with friends/family. I had an old, low quality rip of the soundfont but now I'm looking forward to tinkering around with this one even more!
Hell yes, this OST is absolutely burned into the core of my brain. Would be cool maybe to eventually cover Bomberman Hero. The composer of that did the original NES Bomberman, and she does some real interesting things with the DnB/jungle stuff that was oh-so-popular around that time.
Nice! They are great! Nowadays I tend to stay away from using ripped soundfonts due to legal troubles, but they are still an important piece of gaming history that deserves to be preserved - so thank you for doing that!
Ever since first renting Bomberman 64 as a kid, I've always considered it "that game you play when you don't have Super Mario 64." I still enjoyed the game enough that years later when I became an adult with disposable income, it would eventually become one of the games I would seek out and buy to add to my personal collection of "games we rented a lot as kids but didn't own because we were poor" (which included Secret of Mana, Gunstar Heroes, and Phantasy Star IV, among others). The music was a major part of why I liked the experience, and I didn't really have any of the previous Bomberman games as references back then so it was pretty singular and isolated to me as far as Bomberman goes.
The music of Green Garden and Blue Resort, specifically, take me right back to the night of December 29, 1997. Awkward little teenage me got the game for Christmas, and I had my all-in-one best friend, cousin, and love interest (hey, I was a kid) over to spend the night. We had just got back from seeing Mortal Kombat Annihilation, and I had her try this game. It was such a simple but powerful moment in my childhood that now these two songs are permanently associated with it.
Countless hours spent as a child with this game and its sequel. Haven’t played it in years. I’m gonna blow the dust off my old N64 and pop this bad boy in tonight
I didn't own this game but I remember visiting a friend who had it. I don't remember much from those days, but I definitely remember playing Bomberman 64 at his house one day (I think it was summertime). The reason I remember it is that I was captured by the audiovisual presentation. Green Garden has such a nice, joyous feeling, and it was exciting to go around exploring the level in this, at the time, modern graphical style. I carry around a couple of the tracks on my phone, and I use the stage intro jingle as my ringtone.
Damn, I had to subscribe. I don't even know how to use soundfonts fully, but I love this soundtrack as well as Megaman 8 that I see you also made a font for. Very impressed with how well the font sounds. I hope you'll also take a look at Bomberman Hero's OST if you haven't, Jun Chiki Chikuma's music is fantastic. She also did the OST for Sonic and the Secret Rings. I've got tons of great OSTs and soundfont ideas if you need more inspiration. I'd love to hear a soundfont based off Mischief Makers, Castlevania SOTN, Contra Hard Corps, La-Mulana (Remake) or SoumdTemp's tracks in Ragnarok Online. Edit: I had to come back to this comment right after writing it to say I'm super glad to see you also did a font for Brave Fencer Musashi and Final Fantasy Tactics, two of my favorites. Another couple games I think have really good soundtracks that fly under people's radars often are two of the Tetris games on N64, namely Tetrisphere (Industrial/DnB) and Magical Tetris (Funk/DnB). Entirely different OSTs, but both amazing for totally different reasons.
Awesome comment, thanks for this! I definitely have plans to do a couple more Bomberman games and soundfonts. Also want to do some more high profile stuff too, but one step at a time 😂
Great video and the sound font is very much appreciated. I love the breakdown and would love to see more tracks broken down by instrument. Games like Bomberman 64 have a timeless OST, and I'll forever be thankful for them (much due to their fonts, even). Mega Man Legends, Threads of Fate, and Yoshi's Island are good examples of the same quality OSTs which are also timeless pieces of music.
Some of my favorite video game music comes from this game. Blue Resort and the Main Map Theme just make you feel adventurous and happy. Just subscribed. Hopefully I can learn a thing or two.
We used to rent this game back in my childhood. Such weekends were awesome especially taking turns with my 10+ cousins in the 4 player battle mode 😂. The music and overall story/concept were quite unique and enchanting
I know, I wish I had time to talk about every track, it was nearly impossible to decide on just a few. In the end I chose somewhat randomly, but you're absolutely right that White Glacier is a killer of a track. I could do an hour long video about this game and I still wouldn't have time to show enough love for it.
@@SoundFontGuy lots of N64 games had I suppose limited access to samples but the MIDI are formed quite well, even in obscure N64 games. I extracted the MIDIs directly from the Quest 64 rom and so far finished remixing 4 out of 45 songs, but there's still so much more work I gotta do XD being an amateur doesnt help but itll be a fun hobby
All three Bomberman games for the N64 were incredible. The franchise after these 3 was never as good ever again. The N64 era made clear, Bomberman has to be an epic adventure with cool bosses to defeat on your way. Fighting the High Tech Harvester (Cerberus) in Black Fortress 2 or the Spellmaker in Rainbow Palace 2 blew my mind as a kid. Two super cool fights with an epic tune to boot. Gawd I love the Bomberman trilogy on N64. Nitros in Bomberman Hero had such a cool OST too.
Seeing this video while it gives me nostalgia of this game. It honestly also reminds me how I wish (Bomberman 64) & it’s follow up (The Second Attack) got modern console ports or remakes same with these two other N64 games (Snowboard Kids 1 & 2) which are also underrated gems in my book that sadly are also exclusive to well…N64.
When I was a kid, I didn't pay that much attetion to the music but Super Mario Galaxy was the one that stood out. It made the small maps feel much bigger and I would just keep replaying some stars just for the vibe those worlds gave. Galaxy 2 may be the better game, but Galaxy 1 is the one that feels less like "is just a videogame" for me.
i think we may be on the same page about this game's sound library. it's very unique even if i am the wrong person to utilize it to its fullest yet. oh! and - one soundtrack that formed my childhood would be from the game "The Smurfs' Nightmare" - the soundtrack is done by Alberto José González (McAlby). He made lots of Game Boy osts back in the day, mostly european titles. i would actually love for you to check the small but good ost - even if it's not sample based or fit for a video
@@SoundFontGuy gladly~ i think 100% of McAlby's Game Boy music is at least really good. i mean that and i am not saying it lightly. this man has such a good ear for music, it's incredible but "The Smurfs' Nightmare" is definitely one of my top favorite osts by him~
It's funny you say this. Since that Kirby and the crystal shards game was in the same era, to me, specifically the Neo Star track, is to Blue Resort what Green Garden is to Green Greens. It's hard for me to put my finger on the through-line exactly, but they seem so tonally similar. I kind of consider them sister tracks. This is just one of those thoughts a person has and never expects to have the opportunity to express. 😁 Thanks for the opportunity. Neo Star. It's a special one.
So in depth, thank you for sharing this. Without people like you here observing things most wouldn’t really think about otherwise, you’re literally preserving a part of history this way and in the future people will look back on this and thank you ❤🫡
fond memories from out younger days? the OSTs to Ocarina of Time, Wind Waker, Crystal Chronicles, Pikmin 1, Metroid Prime 1, Pokemon RBY and GSC(well, the GS part mainly, anything added in crystal wouldn't be so familiar), pokemon colloseum/XD, smash bros Melee, pokemon snap, zoids battle legends, and zoids legacy. Probably a couple others that skip our memory atm. But speaking of that last one, dunno if it'd be up your alley, but maybe you should check out the OST to Zoids legacy, it's pretty good for a GBA liscenced RPG
As someone who grew up with the SNES games, I found BM64 to be quite difficult to get into, but I must agree that the music is really good! That said, when I think of Bomberman music, I think Jun Chikuma, and I'd love to hear you talk about her work at some point! All 5 Super Bomberman games on SNES have phenomenal music!
The track White Ice? (Ice Glacier Stage) had on my old mp3 player and used to hit hard during the cold season time frame (like now). Good tunes, Thanks for sharing.
Could you do an update to the solid guy soundfont to fix the drum samples? The ones that come in the pack right now have absolutely 0 bass(particularly noticable on the kick and timpani sample) and are completely drowned in reverb which makes them basically unusable. I definitely think there should be both a dry and a wet version so you can add your own effects to it if you want. Basically the dry version should sound like how the drums sound in the silent guy pack, those sound pretty good
I hear you. Believe it or not, those samples don't actually have any reverb on them. They were generated using white noise, which gives them a very spacious sound. I just made some dry versions of the drums and updated the shop. If you're using the lite version, here's a link to the update - ko-fi.com/s/cea13e5118 If you bought the high quality version, send me a message on Ko-fi and I'll send the updated HQ version right to you!

I didn't play much of that game as a kid, but the music is insanely good. The composer is someone we all know very well.
Yeah Bomberman 64 is an outlier for sure so I don't blame fans if it's not their cup of tea. Diddy Kong racing has such a great soundtrack!
Awesome video, Green gardens for sure
Thank you 🙏
i loved playing bomberman 64 with my 3 siblings as a kid ive also been waiting for someone to make a soundfont thats this spot on
❤️ thank you! I hope to hear whatever you make with it!
Bomberman Hero had some good music too, its even relevant today being remixed by modern synthwave acts. Its a lot more mellow though.
This is great. I bought the HQ version, and will be using it for my indie game: Knights of the Exploding Table.
Nice!! Thank you!
Thank you very much! I hope you enjoy it!
5:30 is that a bit of NiGHTS into Dreams I hear in there?
I'm not sure honestly! Maybe it's a case of convergent songwriting?
I can confirm that it’s simple similarities but not a blatant copy haha.
SHOUTOUT TO BOMBERMAN HERO AS WELL
Don't worry, that one will get its own dedicated video!
Hell yeah @@SoundFontGuy
what about Bomberman 64 the Second Attack?? @@SoundFontGuy
@@AutoYeah I could never forget it! 😁
@@SoundFontGuy i forgot to say but thanks for the soundfont! ♥️
Hell yes, this OST is absolutely burned into the core of my brain. Would be cool maybe to eventually cover Bomberman Hero. The composer of that did the original NES Bomberman, and she does some real interesting things with the DnB/jungle stuff that was oh-so-popular around that time.
Yeah absolutely! Bomberman Hero's OST is on my to do list!
I have heard "green garden" years ago, but I have absolutely no idea it came from this, let alone how much this game's soundtrack slaps lol
Haha I'm glad you like it!
My fondest memories of Game OST's have to be Bomberman 64 as well, and the Turok 1 & 2 on the 64 as well.
A man of taste.
@@SoundFontGuy You as well Sire
Search the band Death’s Dynamic Shroud. They’ve sampled multiple tracks from this game
Internation Team!
I loved the soundfonts for Bomberman 64 The Second Attack and especially Bomberman Hero, both of which I ripped and put on Musical Artifacts
Nice! They are great! Nowadays I tend to stay away from using ripped soundfonts due to legal troubles, but they are still an important piece of gaming history that deserves to be preserved - so thank you for doing that!
Great video. My most memory provoking classic VG music has to be the piano intro to Ocarina of Time. It hits on a very, very deep level.
Thank you! Yeah, that opening sequence is like nothing before or since.
I never stopped listening to Altair's theme(s) all these years later. I pull it up once every few years.
One of my childhood favourite, this soundtrack is just incredible!
Yess!! So glad you agree 😂
Oh dang I was about to spend the weekend ripping this soundfont, I'll happily pay for your work. Cheers and thanks!
Haha thank you very much! It's my pleasure!
Blue Lagoon always sounded like a lost Kirby 64 track to me
Interesting!
Bomberman 64 the second attack decided to continue the legacy with music that slaps absurdly hard
Looks good! never even played it back then. I like this orderly camera !
It's a charming little game, I totally recommend it!
I love Green Garden! That's the only place I ever played around in, lol!
It's cheerful!
Just bought the Soundfont! Excited to dig into it!!
Thank you very much! I hope you enjoy it!
Awesome video, though i had hoped you would talk about white Glacier music. I freaking love that track
I know, I wish I had time to talk about every track, it was nearly impossible to decide on just a few. In the end I chose somewhat randomly, but you're absolutely right that White Glacier is a killer of a track. I could do an hour long video about this game and I still wouldn't have time to show enough love for it.
ooo that soundfont sounds very interesting! I'm currently remaking the Quest 64 soundtrack for fun, maybe I will include Bomberman 64 someday
I would love to hear that! That soundtrack is underappreciated, largely because people think the samples sound bad.
It really is something else. There hasn't been anything even close before or since.
Loved this game as a kid! Recently 100% this game for the first time! As good as it is though, can't beat that BOMBERMAN HERO ost.
How is my guy out here making whole game soundfonts for free and sitting at so few subscribers? This is criminal
Haha that's very kind, thanks!
Just put me on to some newness, thank you!
✨🙌🏾✨
You're very welcome, my pleasure! Thank you for watching!
Seeing this video while it gives me nostalgia of this game. It honestly also reminds me how I wish (Bomberman 64) & it’s follow up (The Second Attack) got modern console ports or remakes same with these two other N64 games (Snowboard Kids 1 & 2) which are also underrated gems in my book that sadly are also exclusive to well…N64.
the final boss music at 8:25 gives me mad klonoa 1 vibes.🤯 it be cool to hear a soundfont like that game as well.😎😎
I learnt Blue Resort on piano, I loved it so much. Thanks for the video!
Thanks for watching!
My favourite Bomberman track from that era has to be "REDIAL" (from "Hero"). I cant explain the magic that track brings me.
That explanation hit so hard. There really is a distinction between just a game, and an experience
This and Bomberman Hero's soundtrack ring in the memories of my childhood 😊🎵
I still haven't managed to get all the gold cards lol
I like how you dissected the music, the drums really went crazy!
I still cant understand how with the switches capacity this series has gone backwards
I want an HD rerelease
@@SoundFontGuy who doesnt
Thank you so much for this. Like, I mean it genuinely!
You're very welcome, it's genuinely my pleasure!
i think we may be on the same page about this game's sound library. it's very unique even if i am the wrong person to utilize it to its fullest yet.
oh! and - one soundtrack that formed my childhood would be from the game "The Smurfs' Nightmare" - the soundtrack is done by Alberto José González (McAlby). He made lots of Game Boy osts back in the day, mostly european titles.
i would actually love for you to check the small but good ost - even if it's not sample based or fit for a video
Selina!!! Thanks for watching! I've never played The Smurfs' Nightmare, but your taste in GameBoy music is excellent so I'll have to listen to it!
@@SoundFontGuy gladly~
i think 100% of McAlby's Game Boy music is at least really good. i mean that and i am not saying it lightly. this man has such a good ear for music, it's incredible
but "The Smurfs' Nightmare" is definitely one of my top favorite osts by him~
great video, definitely super awesome about the sound fonts. +1 sub
Hey, thanks!
Blue resort got them Kirby vibes.
I never thought about that before, but I think you might be right haha. What do you think it is that makes the vibes sound like Kirby?
It's funny you say this. Since that Kirby and the crystal shards game was in the same era, to me, specifically the Neo Star track, is to Blue Resort what Green Garden is to Green Greens.
It's hard for me to put my finger on the through-line exactly, but they seem so tonally similar. I kind of consider them sister tracks. This is just one of those thoughts a person has and never expects to have the opportunity to express. 😁
Thanks for the opportunity.
Neo Star. It's a special one.
So in depth, thank you for sharing this. Without people like you here observing things most wouldn’t really think about otherwise, you’re literally preserving a part of history this way and in the future people will look back on this and thank you ❤🫡
Thank you very much for saying so! 🙌
Bomberman 64 = Instalike
Damn, I’ve been sleeping on this game.
fond memories from out younger days? the OSTs to Ocarina of Time, Wind Waker, Crystal Chronicles, Pikmin 1, Metroid Prime 1, Pokemon RBY and GSC(well, the GS part mainly, anything added in crystal wouldn't be so familiar), pokemon colloseum/XD, smash bros Melee, pokemon snap, zoids battle legends, and zoids legacy. Probably a couple others that skip our memory atm.
But speaking of that last one, dunno if it'd be up your alley, but maybe you should check out the OST to Zoids legacy, it's pretty good for a GBA liscenced RPG
What soundfont brings back memories? Mischief Makers on the N64. Such a weird and crazy soundtrack
One of my personal favorites!
I have been thinking about Jun Chikumas work a lot since I uploaded this video haha. Thanks for your comment!
Blue Resort is peak preteen years of my life music. ;.;
The track White Ice? (Ice Glacier Stage) had on my old mp3 player and used to hit hard during the cold season time frame (like now). Good tunes, Thanks for sharing.
As soon as it starts getting cold here I am gonna blast that tune.
When I enter heaven Blue Resort will start playing.
Mega man 8 OST for sure is serenading nostalgia. Blue resort and Aquaman from MM 8 are my cancer♋ songs. They embody the element itself 💀🚬.
🙌 pisces here, so I understand to a degree 🙏
soundtrack of my younger days.... that would be probably ragnarok online soundtrack, especially prontera city theme.
That's one of my favorites of all time!
Please do more videos like this! Star Soldier Vanishing Earth or Quest 64 would rule!
I will do more for sure!
If you're using the lite version, here's a link to the update - ko-fi.com/s/cea13e5118
If you bought the high quality version, send me a message on Ko-fi and I'll send the updated HQ version right to you!
Great OST
oh wow!
My all time favorite ost is from a PS1 gem called "Einhänder"
Love that game. And the OST of course
have you played crystal shards? I would love your take.
I haven't but I've been meaning to!
I wish they would make another Bomberman 3D adventure game 😢
Me too, there are still a few that I haven't played though!
I want to see it remake😢😢😢
I like white music and vs map music, I also like other musics' rhythm❤
It's so happy to watch your video!
Btw Regulus is a good guy in the end🥲
Just realised Green Garden reminds me a bit of Mario64 ending theme😮
