    You know I've never been anything more than just a shade tree mechanic, but you just taught some some valuable stuff here... I never even knew I could change out the internal jets for ... DIFFERENT SPECS, I always thought it was just the friggin external screws/valves/etc... I got some work to this weekend! Thank you for posting this! I had no luck adjusting the piston needle.

    BIG BIG HELP! Lost my mind working on a Kawi Prairie 400 with same problem. Thinking about buying a 250ES big red and glad to have watched this

    Hey man, I have a question. If the factory size jet is 38, but you ended up with a 52, what happened? Is there some other issue that made it necessary to change the jet size? Did you also have to change out the main jet too? Ok I had 3 questions.

      I think the confusion is this carburetor was not OEM but sold as an incorrect replacement.

      Exactly. I'm in the same boat. My bike didn't come with an OEM carb, so I bought a clone. At first it ran way too rich, then I set the needle clip to the 2nd from top position. Now it does just like the bike in the video.

    Why does the damn manual say turn it clockwise until it quits . Mine never quit but definitely went through a higher idle

    Yo hope you and the big red are still around... mine is over jetted .. if fuel is on it get way to much gas and only shittly runs full throttle .. when i turn fuel off with it running after a few seconds it runs and revs like a champ for a few seconds Then dies.. my cheap carb is different from yours it came with my BR.. so not sure if it matters on that fact but what were the final jet sizes .. i didnt hear ya say.. thanks good video .. maybe update description with jets sizes

    Do you have the link to the clone carb you have? I’ve bought 2 so far and they are way too big and not the correct fit for my big red.

    where do the top 5/8 hose go for vent. One hose goes from crank case then has a T, lower hose goes down to vent . Top hose goes up behind carburetor then comes out under frame below front part of seat. I can smell gas fumes from it while its running. Does this top hose go somewhere? Fumes are stinking up my garage
    Thanks

    @bondfranklin, I have a 1985 Big Red with a clone carb. I have the original but having trouble finding it. Can you tell me where you bought your jets?

    So you want it idling that fast? When you put it in gear it’s gonna take off and run over some one.

      T Leyba there should be like a sort of tuning knob under the carb, twist it to the left a little to lower the idle

    • @annam501
      @annam501 4 роки тому

      T Leyba there is a black knob on the carburetor turn it maybe half a round counterclockwise keep turning counterclockwise until you have the desired rpms

    Sounds like you need to buy a original carb from Honda and tighten your Air/Fuel set screw 2 1/2 turns out from seated.
