- If you had asked me 5 years ago what models of 200cc Honda Big Red there were, I would have told you "Oh, that's easy... there's 3. The 1982 and 1983 ATC 200E, and then in 1984 they had the 200ES. Easy!"
Actually, not so easy... It turns out Honda, in true Honda fashion, threw some curve balls into the mix. In the US, what I said above it true. You could only get the 3 models mention. But world wide... they had 2 odd balls that were made to just make things weird! Great for internet arguments I've found out. Usually the people challenging me have spend next to no time doing their homework... so it's funny. But for those who have done their research, there are 2 extra models. This video goes through all 5!
Since I've done 3 other videos on the variations in Big Reds, I didn't get too far into the nitty gritty on this one. If you want more information, you can seek those out. This is the only video though specific to just the 200cc Big Reds though. Enjoy!

I'm currently restoring my '82 Big Red I've had for around 30 years. She's a beast.
Love it!
My first ATV was a 84 200s. A little different, it was not a Big Red, no front rack or Big Red graphics. It was rope pull only, no electric start, and had a chain drive. Great machine, wish I still had it. Enjoyed the video!
I've got a video dedicated to the 185S and 200S. Check the rest of my videos and you'll find it!
😃 Just watching now buddy. Thank you for the mention. Finally a good pic for me to share. I can't wait to see your 88. And I'll never forget how smooth and perfectly running those 1987s were that you had me come pick up with you.
Happy to mention you sir! That 84 you did came out beautifully!!
@@ThisOldTrike And oh!...I meant to say it's awesome you chose my favorite picture of all I took last week.
*82..there's my baby...she's asleep at the cabin...but she'll be awoken tomorrow evening!*
Very interesting video. I enjoyed learning some more about the 200’s. I’m like you,my first atc was the 200 es. I grew up on a farm and what a fun and handy work machine it was. In fact I used it so much I had to get a top end rebuild done to it.
Those 84 200ES's are tried and true machines. I sold the one from my childhood in 2010 like a fool... tried to track it down, but the trail went cold on me. This other one fills the void nicely though.
I refuse to let my dad sell or scrap his 83 200e either of them i will rebuild them when i can afford it. Die hard machines and unreplacable.
Wow can't believe they made an 85 200! Very cool
Thank you for the video. I have an 83 200e and it isn't show worthy, but looks pretty good with a rattle can paint job. It does get use on our little piece of property, for work and fun.
You're very welcome! Thanks for watching!!
I miss my dads 83 200e. One of these days ill use the 2 scrap piled ones we have to make a runner. The all terrain cycle was on the cross member for both our 83s if that helps any.
Hi guys , brilliant video btw especially for the English viewers, I didn’t know half this stuff so very educational, would love to see a better quality of picture just to show how good those machines are , brilliant channel. Love it
Recently came across your channel, love the content.
Well I'm glad you found me! Glad you're enjoying my videos, brother!
I loved the 200S and still remember the angry bark from the engine, even after 35 years.
I still check the classifieds for them but they hardly ever come up in usuable condition. I did miss a 250sx this year, but it went for 6 grand (£)!
Great video!
Thank you very much!!
Nice job. Very cool seeing then lined like that. Yes I learned something new!
I just got one with 84 on the headstock , but it has the up gearbox and the plastic throttle housing , grey decals on the back , but on the side plastic it says super red 200 , maby the Oceania bikes are different than the USA spec bikes , or I’ve got a late 84 that it got the 85 bits
If it says Super Red, you must be in Australia or possibly New Zealand? You guys did the 85 200ES too. It could be that the engine and/or other parts have been swapped around over the years too.
Good one. I learned a thing or two for sure. Thanks!
Very cool sir! Thank you for watching!!!
Hmmm, I do notice that the 82 Big Red gas tank is tilted up a little more than the others. Maybe the two rubber mounts on the frame were welded in place up higher than the later models? I really never had the pleasure of getting to ride a 200 BR when I was a teenager, and I really wanted a honda 3 wheeler, hoping for a 125 or even a 110, but instead My parents got me a 85 250 BR, talk about being blown away as a kid. I'd like to find a decent 200 BR sometime, I'm sure it would be pretty cool to add to my small collection. Great videos as always👍
No, the tank is on the frame wrong... the C shaped metal mounts on the tank are sitting on the rubbers that they're supposed to be around... I need to take the 2 minutes out of my life to fix that... lol.
There is a place in Sharon springs area that vulcanizes tires.
Thanks brother. Mine is coming along
Awesome man! Can't wait to see the finished product!
Great video! Thanks! 😎👌
Thanks brother!
Looking good bud
Thanks Brother!
I'll look at it more tomorrow I just bought it and never had really much time with it it's not running probably sour gas it hasn't been running into years but when he parked it it was fine
Great vid, could of said the early models didnt have reverse. But it was great!!! Have the 83 and 84 models.
I think I mentioned that in an off the cuff sort of way when talking about the dash differences. This whole video was off the cuff... lol. Probably should have made a plan of when to talk about things so it wasn't all disjointed!
@@ThisOldTrike prior planning prevents piss poor performance
Where I'm at it's all 83 200 big red and 85 big red. Would love to have a 84 big red
That's very interesting because they made more 84 200ES's than any other model... so there's more of them floating around than the rest!
Great video, nice to see the 200 big reds getting the attention they deserve, do you reckon you could exert some influence and get Serwa Tires to make reproduction Dunlop KT 325’s? I’d defo buy a set for my all original ‘84. Best wishes from the Emerald Isle.
Hi Gareth, are you a member of Honda atc UK Ireland & beyond?
Hi, if you were to choose between the 1984 200es or say 1985 250es, would the 250 be the one because it has more CC ? Im asking because I´m on the hunt for a 250 es but they just dont grow on trees here but there is a 200es with reverse and shaft for sale.
nevermind, totally forgot that the rear suspension came in the 85 model
Yeah, if you can find a 250ES, you'll like it a lot more than a 200ES... They're just a more capable machine.
@@ThisOldTrike thanks for your input, I guess its the overall capability as you mention but whats the biggest difference (in your point of view) is it those 50cc more or the rear suspension that makes the 250 the number one pick ? Well now it got both but you know what I mean 🙂
5 variations of 200's and a year ago i thought there was 3 variations of big reds in total😅
We're all growing in our knowledge base!
Hey i know this might be a wierd question but do you know anyone with a 2nd gen atc 125m 1986 1987 seat or seat pan for sale?
Not off the top of my head.
When restoring these hondas , are the motors rebuildabul? These big red 3 wheelers are awesome!!
Only two of these 5 have been restored. I did not rebuild the motors. They weren't in bad shape before I started, so I opted to not dive into the motors.
Where is the best place to buy 3 wheelers other than Facebook marketplace
Is the frame are the same on the shaft one and the chain drive ?
No, they're different. The differential on the shaft drive unit bolts up differently than the bearing carrier on the chain drive units.
I have a p0ssible honda big red 200 no electric start or reverise and no front shocks and no key or nutral lite what year is it ??
Sounds like a 1981 or 1982 ATC 200. Is the headlight switch on the headlight, or on the bars? 81 is in the headlight, 82 is on the bars.
I thought the EM3000 fitted on the rack... is the EM500 the same size externally ?
I am not sure.
Now then with the 1985 and the 1984 200es do they both have the same front forks?
They do have the same front fork set up.
Where can I find the front cargo racks you have on some of the big reds
They're pretty hard to come by these days. Ebay, Facebook, garage sales... there's no go-to place to find them unfortunately.
What I’ve thought Is if your 84 200es was made in 84 it would say all-terrain cycle but if it was made in 84 it would say Honda my 200es was made in January and it says Honda but I’m not 100% sure but that’s what I believe
You can’t find original tires for these anywhere.
I need a tank for a 84e the chain drive electric start
Does anyone know anything about the 84 200M?? I have one and it says on the skicker its the 5/83 made. Could that be true?
Thought I might add that it's a vm30192. And chain driven.
Most machines were built the year before their actual model year. Same thing with cars.
I had a 82
Awesome machines.
Owww! My pinche back! 😫
I think you were just out of rhythm brother! Or in full send mode!
Me likey big reds😂😂😂
Yes sir! Notice I don't have a spotlight!
Here
Always
Great video!
