1:30 Stage manager: Jimmy where is your saxophone?! Jimmy: I lost it, but I can clap really enthusiastically. Stage manager: OK good enough lets do this thing!
A little trivia for ya on this song. This was the A side on a record that had "The Wanderer" on the B side. When the DJ's got the record they liked "The Wanderer" better so they started playing that instead of "The Majestic" and the rest, as they say, is history.
Thanks for mentioning this, Mr. Bartlett, you're quite correct! Oftentimes, it was just a 'requirement' that there be a 'Flip Side.' The music makers would spend a lot of time & effort to make a 'quality' A side, & then just dash off something for the flip. There have always been - some - dance songs. and once in awhile, there is a tremendous hit! My collection goes way back, to old one sided 78's. "The Charleston" was a huge hit, in the 1920's, almost 100 years ago! Then, 'only' 30 to 35 years later, "The Twist" was huge. The problem / situation, was that then record producers fell all over themselves, releasing many dance discs. A relative few were good, many, terrible! My, 'favorite bad example:' "The Froog," The Dovells (who had other, better, hits!) Can you tell me, you're smart, just what the HECK (sorry for 'yelling,' and I must be polite!) is a, 'Froog?' In our polite company, I can't even guess! This gets back to, "The Majestic." When, (believe it or not!) I was young, in Parochial School, my friends & I would each buy a few singles, & play them on a small record player. Joe had, "The Wanderer." We'd play this, then change the disc, & play another hit. We never played, "The Majestic," Even though it has a 'highfalutin,'' 'majestic' title! (Is someone going to pay me, for this pun?). If we have the time (I have a lot of records!) we SHOULD play the B sides, some are quite good!
I am sure I saw dion at Pleasure Island in Wakefield ma. About 1959 it was on a class trip when I graduated from grammar school can anybody recall him perform there ??
On this day in 1961 {December 19th} Dion performed "The Majestic" on the Dick Clark ABC-TV weekday-afternoon program, 'American Bandstand'... At the time the song was at #36 on Billboard's Top 100, that was also it's peak position on the chart, and it spent six weeks on the Top 100... Also at the time "The Majestic's" A-side, "The Wanderer", was at #56, nine weeks later it would peak at #2* {for 1 week} and it stayed on the chart for eighteen weeks... "The Wanderer" reached #10 on the United Kingdom's Singles chart... Between 1960 and 1989, Dion, as a solo artist, had twenty-four Top 100 records; nine made the Top 10 with one reaching #1, "Runaround Sue", for 2 weeks on October 23rd, 1961, after spending two weeks at #1, it settled into the #2 spot for the next four weeks... Dion Francis DiMucci will celebrate his 79th birthday come next on July 18th {2018}... * The week "The Wanderer" was at #2, the #1 record for that week was "Duke of Earl" by Gene Chandler...
Great song. Why they got a boatload of middle aged to elderly non rhythmics to dance way off beat here is beyond me. Killer song. Come watch me and my street boys dance to this
That's Clay Cole clapping, on stage, far left. Who cares, dunno? I can't believe I remembered who that was. BTW, I preferred the flip-side, "The Wanderer."
When I was a kid, I played this side more than The Wanderer. I'm 62 and I still love it.
MrGandharva108 I literally only listen to Dion’s music. I’m 13 lmao. People tell me I should have been born in the 20s
Clandestine Underground same but I’m 20
@Camille same but I'm 15
@@stevenflynn6443 Ha! Look at all of the 'Old Timers!'

folks he is 80 years young these days
Thank you for your knowledge and insight, I really appreciate it personally.
Nice info, they never played "The Majestic" in my neck of the woods, NEVER, only "The Wanderer"
great songs
Solid gold 45, both sides on the Laurie label . I guess I got my 59 or 69 cents worth on this one.
very nice
man Comn
Rock n' F'in Roll. Check out his newly released album 'Kickin' Child'. It's great.

A couple break ups on the high notes makes me wonder why they chose this take.
Gene B I've always wondered if it was on purpose
Mikey Condry I very much doubt it was deliberate 🤔
@gene b it's a theyre lip synching that's this Is the actual record
I like those. Makes it cooler. More street worthy
If you’re here, you’re cool.
Great Channel!
Do it ummmm.....💕
only dion could do it
Backed by the Del Satins
Teen idol? Whoda middle aged folk?

Robert Plant brought me here
trish john Plant? What did he do?
+dylan musij he recommended the song during a recent interview as one of his favorites
But, if this is a song about everyone doing a dance called The Majestic . . . why isn't anyone doing it?
They don't want singers with real talent nowadays they want the same cookie cutter singers.
“Purifying” the music with a middle age to elderly audience that was staged…….😩😩😩
