cm7611 - I'm not sure if they run this rod anymore as they have a new model out now which is the MD soul surf. They are graphite and the new MD has UFR (ultimate flex reinforcement) this gives it a lot more strength but keeps it's flexibility. It's like a rod with in a rod. It also has a sliding reel seat so you can personally set it at your arm length. It runs replica LR fuji guides (unsure what material these are) Cheers for the support 👍
Hey mate, love the videos, keeps the froth alive. If you had to choose between the surf 8k and the Rockaway 8000 what would you choose? Can get the soul surf and Rockaway on combo but all the 8k are out of stock for a couple weeks, want to know if it’s worth waiting.
Hi DWNZ It would be the 8k all day - it's purposely built for surfcasting with it's LC spool, slower osculation, fast drag system and heavy duty bail wire. It leaves the rockaway in it's dust.... Hope that helps and tight lines 🎣
Hi Mate, thinking about buying this rod not the MD version, will it be sweet with 5 oz sand grabber and pilchard tail looks a bit light weight cheers. I fish on the Westcoast so after distance
I think they are rated upto an 8oz so will Handel it no problem - I fish it with a 5oz and also 6oz but prefer the 5oz. Fish it on the west also and get good distances with it. It is a little more whippy but find it not to bad a rod - it's a good starter rod. Tight lines
Thanks fod the reply, just bought the okuma soul 14ft and okuma surf 8k reel. Make sure you hit up Okuma for your commission haha. You must get them alot of sales man. enjoy watching your vids thanks again
Just brought this set up,would this be able to handle a king fish?I'm also using 40pound 0.3mm high quality braid.i spooled 700 meters on the 8k surf real
Hi S Yep it will handle a King easy - if off the beach just let it tire it's self out - use the rod to catch the fish and you'll be swt 👍 I've caught a few big rays on mine which is a little more harder when they are sucking on the bottom and won't come in on the waves.... Tight lines
@@Reel-Kiwi-Fishing Do you recommend the Okuma Soul Surf rod over the Penn Pursuit 4 rod or a Shimano Vortex rod? Also would the okuma dsa-80 be a good reel with this rod?
Hi iw I'm using 30lb platypus bionic 9 - you could even bump up to 40lb - i have no backing on it as I fish the west coast quite a bit - out there you walk out and cast and by the time you come back out of the water it can be up to 100mtrs - it holds a heap of braid.... Tight lines
Is the rod graphite or fibreglass? Also do you know what material the guides are made from? Love your videos

Thinking about getting the Kotare.
How would you compare the two?
The Kotare is a whole different beast - if you can afford it get it 👍
